Kumarn, good riddance! She was never a "close" friend and neither a good person to begin with. What kind of friend does not respect her own friend's contrarian views and engage in contrasting ideas?

Here is what you can do, wish her best and gift her the novel "Veil". And move on. I do feel for you in a different way, bringing an end to friendship is not a trivial thing.
Well, she is very stubborn and is prone to over-reaction. but its sad, because i and my wife really liked her. while at school she came over to our house to babysit my daughter. many times wife cooked for her.

Victim of VajpayeeCongress in BJP. SC President could have threatned Nehru/Gandhi's votebank. There was an article after Tejpal's arrest in rape charge showing how ABV/BM never went after real hands behind the sting.

The cancellation of the proposed event and the sequence of events leading up to it are a matter of introspection for both Facebook and its Anchor from NewsLaundry.

#1 – First point where they seem to have erred was in announcing the series as being about Prime Ministerial contenders when only Narendra Modi was the sole declared PM candidate of a major formation and the only other major formation the UPA not having a declared PM candidate

#2 – Second point where they erred was the manner in which the line up was drawn establishing parity between Narendra Modi with upstarts like Kejriwal and convicts out on bail like Lalu Yadav. To be seen to be sharing a platform with likes of Kejriwal and Lalu would have meant dignifiying them with stature barely earned or deserved.

#3 – Third point and of course least important was the media partnership and the manner in which it was positioned. Perhaps more maturity and openness would have helped.

High priority task of next govt?
Ministers under surveillance

Stunning facts were unearthed as the CBI raided properties of India’s leading meat exporter Moin Qureshi. The agency has not only put under the scanner Moins’s wife Nasreen Quereshi, a domicile of Pakistan who has earned Page 3 fame, but also the businessman’s high profile connections in Delhi, London, Paris and Dubai. Also under scrutiny is Moin’s stake in a Paris showroom owned by the fashion-designer daughter of a former CBI Director. In addition to this, Moin’s suspected close-knit relations with a Congress woman connected to 10 Janpath, her brother-in-law and three key ministers in the UPA government is being scanned at microscopic level. Among the three ministers, one Congress state minister belongs to UP, supposed to be palsy walsy with Rahul Gandhi; another ‘wealthy’ minister belongs to MP who has hold several key positions in the Manmohan Singh government. The third minister under scanner is an NCP leader who belongs to Maharashtra. The tapes of Moin’s conversations with these people are already with the investigating agencies. This whole episode is somehow linked to London where Moin paid a hefty amount to Dorchester Hotel in cash. Hotel managers, smelling something is wrong, alerted British intelligence department and Moin is under surveillance since then.

*IFF* NaMo wins:

1. This thread will become a rona-dhona on how NaMo is not a Hindu and all sleights - real or imagined will be exaggerated.

2. Interesting threads in GDF will die down and everybody will be moving back to the defense/economy/technology thread and "BRFites will be having #BRFights (tm)".

3. Lot of philosophical/strategic #BRFGurus will be "out of jobs and feeling despondent" since GOI will start doing exactly what they were envisaging since time immemorial and now the only carping will be on the velocity of change (they may find buddies in item #1 above)

4. Rest of crowd who are not in any of the above 1,2 & 3 slots will be moving to nukkad and L&M thread.

My takneeki undietv analysis only.

This isn't just some run-of-the-mill election sir. It's a battle for the very soul of India, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that the future course of power balance in the world hinges on the outcome of this 2014 election in India. We're watching history being made in front of our eyes.

Till now, BRF was at the forefront of the intellectual side of this battle. BRF could well become the spearhead of this movement when it goes mainstream. Interest in BRF started going up a few months ago - I've been watching the trend of new user registrations (though I'm no admin/mod). Modi supporters are learning from friends and relatives about this site as we speak.

But this uptick in registrations is still a trickle - nothing to the flood that's going to happen if Modi does win. Apres Modi win, la deluge (of registrations).

When India won her first independence in 1947, everybody became a Satyagrahi overnight. If India does win back her soul in 2014, everybody will become a newly minted patriot overnight. There will be 1 billion Modi supporters who will be thronging for venues to express their new-found deshbhakti. BRF clones will become an urgent need then, else the main site will be swamped with all the love and patriotism.

Dainik Jagran reports that NaMo has done a whopping 273 public meetings till date since he was announced as a Pm candidate.

Thats a hell lot of meetings -- no wonder India is waking up to him esp in hinterlands and non traditonal areas.
not to mention countless workers of all kinds including SM folk.

really a gruelling season for NaMo.
pray to God that he is in good health and successfully accomplishes his goal and becomes the PM of India for many many years.

Call it just the alignment of stars - Internet Revolution, Information Age, Vajpayee Government, Rising Indian economy or whatnot; the the late 90s and early 2000s saw a resurgent India. It manifested in several Indic websites and discussion forums. Indian epics, philosophies, economic model, history, religion saw a strong following and people standing up for their values - past present and future. With the collapse of Vajpayee government, every thing began a downward spiral. But that crowd had tasted success and glory, and now they see in Modi a phenomenon where the self-assertion can resume after a pause of 10 years.

So true. Also various channles(including the Bhakthi channels with their pravachans & yoga) and teleserials on Raamayana & MB. 24x7 news channels keep the people posted(even if its more noise than news) and it becomes progressively difficult to fool the people especially if there is availability of social media.

Thats why when people say that pappu is a fool, I think they are being unduly harsh. Pappu is as good as his ancestors. Its just that his ancestors lived in relatively easy times when the info flow could be restricted unlike today. Thats why the dynasty seems to be very unhappy with social media.

The day when the discourse in social media becomes mainstream and bollywood starts making movies on Raamayan & MB, then the next step would have come.

Exactly. One reason, why I would love Modi to do "social engineering" for the benefit of Indic systems. To be honest, the system does not have to be extra-ordianry for the public, private and public-private sector to realize the benefits of creating and maintaining infrastructure. Roads, bridges, factories, ports, schools, hospitals and toilets will be built. What would need impetus and nurture would be research on ancient Indic systems.

Indic systems are not flawless, however strong research and having righteous pride will help a long way. A mindset change is required to reduce corruption, India should not follow unregulated and unchecked capitalism. Sustainable model is the key that calls for balance in approaches and implementations.

Modi has the capability to provide pride and vision to the people. If he plays the cards correctly, he can weave ancient values & wisdom with modern necessities to form a new India. While a galloping double digit GDP can cool hearts, what ultimately matters is a secure, prosperous and happy people. Indic philosophies have the right message on happiness, and am sure "internet hindu scholars" will come with fascinating research work that will reach aam admi.

It is a slow process and possibly generational changes. Modi or no one can achieve this overnight (2-3 years). However if a leader can provide level playing field (tighter monitoring of foreign funds for religious conversions), and remove the shackles on people asserting their culture, history and future; then Indians (for that matter any civilization) will find way to prosper.

So my wish is Modi to unlock the chain. That is all, no great expectations. Give the country back to the people. Indians pluralistic, spiritual and entrepreneurial skills will do its magic. Learning from others is always a good thing.

SwamyG saar,
for cultural revival/prosperity, the key is
a) Temple management taken out of control of secular sarkaar,
b) language(Sanskruth & mother tongue). Sanskruth replacing Inglish as the lingua franca of the country,
c) Economic prosperity with equal opportunity.

Temples act as the cultural/community centers. Hindhu society's present dismal situation is greatly due to the sidelining temples. Dhevalaya b4 Shauchalaya because Dhevalaya teaches the importance of all others aspects including sanitation. So, Dhevalaya is not just a religious place but a cultural/community center and that role should be revived.

Knowledge of Sanskruth language opens up all the ancient knowledge and removes the middle men(so-called experts like donigers). Many of the distortions and confusions are due to the works during colonial period. Depending on inglish translations and their derivatives which have their roots in colonial narrative is not all advisable.

Finally, economic prosperity(Artha) is mutually dependent on cultural prosperity(Dharma). Dharma & Artha go hand in hand. Dharma teaches ways & means of sustaining and spreading Artha(prosperity) for one and all without too much greed(lobha). For example, most of the politicians of today are immensely rich. Many of the industrialists are immensely rich. Yet, they resort to all sort of immoral activities to continue to earn more money. What will they do with all that money? Many of them simply stash away that money is some vaults and never enjoy them. This is just unbridled greed.

Many politicians spend lots of money to win elections. Then, they indulge in huge corruptions to earn money when they are in power. This is a destructive and negative culture. Why not stop spending money in elections and also stop taking money when in power? Net result will be almost same. People will not grudge politicians having some extra perks and privileges as long as they do proper work. Infact, most people will even ignore small amount of corruption. If there is a corrupt/inefficient leaders/rulers/politicians, then it has domino effect on entire society. Similarly, if there is a good/efficient leaders/rulers/politicians, then it has positive effect on the society. I think the change starts from leaders/rulers/politicians. After all, yatha raaja, thatha prajaa...

So, its important to have dharmik leadership that means leaders who are rooted to Bhaarathiya culture and are fairly immune to corruption/inefficiency. To ensure such leadership, there needs to be a system which encourages merit based selection. New talent needs to come up constantly to keep the things afresh. Otherwise, the older elites would be too busy defending their turfs.

Madhu Trehan clarified in a tweet that it wasn't an interview but a town hall meeting of sorts. Probably NaMo and others will be on a panel fielding questions from NL team. First, Laloo and Kejriwal would have reflected credibility. Second, considering the AAP background of NL it would have turned into a circus. I can only imagine how the perpetual drama artist AK would behave having NaMo closeby. Good dodge.

Madhu trehan mentions that Modi was informed throughout. So unless there is clear evidence that there was an attempt we should not be accusing her.

namo i am sure depends on a group of savvy advisors to see what events to take up etc. when madhu t says namo was informed throughout, it could simply mean they kept some members of the team placated with gobbledegook. this was basically an ambush to recreate a "pappu moment" for namo, for AAP or at the very least a very hostile interview (given namo is no RaGa and would have given it back) and it failed.
