They are calling him "Hindu Nationalist" and not the usual "Hindu Extremist". Also next time a US prez gets elected from in the US (whether democrat or repub) he should be termed as "Christian Nationalist"

Barpeta constituency is one of the 'core' areas of assamese ppl and culture just like a lot of kannadigas trace back to old mysore and coastal districts. both my fathers and mothers side are from that area and barpeta is also one of centers of Sankerdeviya dharma. the rural and riverine areas have been subject to massive BD influx for decades now and looks like things reached the tipping point where they are majority now.

Mangaldoi appears to have saved itself by the skin of its teeth, no thanks to that rascal Kirip Chaliha, great buddy of Ajmal. I would say that Assam itself has been saved in the nick of time. Am sure Modi and Amit Shah have taken note of the unexpectedly strong showing of Ajmal's AIUDF and will strive to do the needful. AIUDF were lying low and waiting to spring a surprise. Way back last year, they were already announcing that Ajmal would be CM.

Think bjp/nda needs to go over the voteshare % in the east with a fine tooth comb. Will be very interesting as a base to determine how to increase voteshare/seat count in future, especially state govt elections. That is what gives LS seats.
