Yes, I remember when he was in the BJP and also was CM. I think he was CM after he broke away and formed his own party. I don't understand how the hell anyone can join the Congress from BJP. It's a completely different frame of mind and one has to be an opportunist in most cases.
NaMo was nowhere in the late 90s when he was the man from Gujarat, and now NaMo is PM of India. This would cause intense taqleef to Vaghela. He has now criticized Rahul Gandhi, so he maybe looking for a way out of the Congress.

I think the fault goes mostly to MMS and Sonia. Poor Rahul, incompetent as he is, got caught in the mix. He did not make this Govt pathetic. Sonia and MMS did.

another tidbit is the % of votes BJP has polled in muslim majority areas. in one alimuddin street (houses CPM party HQ) booth, where all voters are muslim, bjp got more votes than CPM !

state bjp would do well to point out to WB muslims that BD immigrants make life worse for them, not only in general but also give them a bad name and take away a share of the muslim only facilities.

Cracks in BJP over Bedi’s candidature for Delhi CM: IANS
New Delhi: A storm is brewing in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with many Delhi leaders allegedly threatening to “not co-operate” and even “lose deliberately” if former top cop Kiran Bedi was named the party’s next chief ministerial nominee, party sources said.

“There is severe opposition to her (Bedi) in the party. A majority of the leaders and workers don’t want her to be the candidate for the post of chief minister,” a source said.

The leaders have reportedly complained to BJP Delhi chief Harsh Vardhan and senior leader Nitin Gadkari against the move to prop Bedi as the chief ministerial candidate.

“The party cadre is miffed with her (Bedi) for several reasons, including her refusal to fight assembly and Lok Sabha elections on BJP’s ticket and her anti-BJP stand during the Jan Lokpal movement in 2011.”

Bedi along with activist Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal, who later went on to form the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had on numerous occasions, lambasted both the Congress and the BJP for not wanting to pass the bill.

“She cannot be forced upon us... we will not accept her. We want a leader who is from amongst us,” said a legislator from west Delhi who did not wish to be named.

Interestingly, the pandemonium was caused by a tweet from a fake Twitter account in Gadkari’s name last month wherein Gadkari announced Bedi as the party’s chief ministerial candidate who would take on Kejriwal in Delhi.

The tweet created a flutter before Gadkari’s rebuttal. However, the speculations have not stopped since and the media has been pestering Bedi as well as BJP leaders to clarify their respective stands.

Bedi, in fact, on Wednesday admitted that she would accept the offer for the top job. “I have spent 35-40 years of my life in Delhi and (now) want to devote my remaining life for its welfare,” Bedi told a TV channel.

A section of BJP’s central leadership is persistently lobbying for Bedi who, they believe, is the only person who can take on Kejriwal especially if Harsh Vardhan gets the health ministry in the Narendra Modi-led union cabinet.

Meanwhile, Harsh Vardhan, who was the party’s chief ministerial candidate ahead of the December poll, said the final decision would be taken by the central party leadership.

“The central party leadership is aware of all the developments in Delhi and the final decision will be taken by them. It’s up to them to select the right candidate for the post,” he said.

Winning 31 of the 70 assembly seats, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in Delhi under Harsh Vardhan but could not form a government as it failed to reach the halfway mark of 36.

May not be enough if the Punjabi preponderance in Delhi is the reason for the sympathy for AAP. Here is where I think the KB factor could be a game changer
For the third time, that is not the reason AAP won Delhi. And they didn't win. They came in second. JJ colonies, Auto/Taxi Walas, Temp Employees and Muslims were the reason they got 28 seats. This time they will get 4-5 max.

Meenakshi Lekhi and Smiriti Irani (formerly Malhotra) are both safe bets if Dr. Harshvardhan Goel can't be available.

^^The same kind of argument was put up by congi CM candidate hkl bhagat and his team ridiculing Shri Khurana's promise that "Have you thought of how much pressure it'd put up on the sewage-gutter system of Delhi? Have you factored in that?"

Pat came the answer from Sh. Khurana "We'll use the stamp-duty money from these sales of floorwise houses and create much better sewage for Delhi", and by the blessings of Mahadev they did. :D

Imagine a 200 house society doubling up 400 houses capacity, there stamp-duty registration money can buy the best Mono-Rail and Metro systems plus more flyovers!
Sewage systems don't require land acquisition you only need bigger pipes to deal with the issue underground. With high density of people you need large space for parks, school, flyovers, monorail, people movement, traffic management, huge density of vehicles. It is better to construct satellite towns. There are plenty of examples where high rises have not solved these issues especially in country with high density population like India, unless you make your infrastructure on there size and scale of Chinese. Ever heard planning for 100 year horizon ? Since the dawn of civilisation west has followed that and has successfully managed it.

1.) All the houses will be allowed to make extra 3rd floor and also they'll be made 'freehold' so each house can be sold to many people floorwise.

2.) Promise of Metro and flyovers.

by the way

One promise that can win BJP 90% seats in Delhi is:

"BJP will allow all the housing societies to demolish more than 20 year old buildings and built 10 story high rises allowed to make 3 time more flats than already existing in that society"

This will bring much needed more houses + also bring the prices in Delhi down due to over-availability. 8)

Many Housing Societys' federation have met kasai sibal over last 5 years and he kept on promising to bring a law on these lines but didn't do anything. So congis got zilch from flat owners too.
ashish raval wrote: Do you have roads in Delhi to cop up with the increase in population density due to high rises !! Believe me it is horrific.
Actually if govt allows high rise by asking the plot owners to surrender lands abutting the roads and using UG Parking lots in Basements that would create roads of required width and enough parking space. On Road parking could be banned. Pooling of Land could be done and owners could share highrise in pro-rata basis. One can put ceiling depending on the obtainable road width and UG parking lots. Don't allow vehicles below certain emission limits and ban some type of vehicles. Create drop zones for cars, not requiring parking, without obstructing flow of traffic. The most of the congestion comes from vehicles obstructing the road, improper driving and being parked on the road meant for free flow traffic. Of course you need stringent traffic rules and strict enforcement and for that you need Traffic police and proper training and motivation.

Idea may not sound so horrific if you think of solutions.
Agreed, This will solve the problem temporarily, unless we make it to scale of Chinese and strict as west because India will have the same population density to cope with. The simple idea is to make cluster cities or satellite towns with are connected by fast railways and ring roads. Pollution free quality life is also achieved by this.

Mulayam Singh Yadav is going to keep Azamgarh and leave Mainpuri, so there is going to be by-elections in Mainpuri. Any chances that BJP could win it. Mulayam's nephew Tej Pratap Yadav is likely to be nominated as the party candidate from the seat.

Code: Select all

Uttar Pradesh - Mainpuri

Candidate Party Votes
MULAYAM SINGH YADAV Samajwadi Party 595918
SHATRUGHAN SINGH CHAUHAN Bharatiya Janata Party	231252
DR. SANGHMITRA MAURYA Bahujan Samaj Party 142833
It's possible that not the same number of Mulayam supporters would again come to vote for his nephew, as they will get only a useless MP.

Mulayam clueless on taking on Modi in LS. Deccan Herald
Lucknow: Mulayam, whose party managed to win only five seats in UP in the recent Lok Sabha polls, will have only his family members, accompanying him in the house. These include his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav and his two nephews - Akshoy, a first-timer, and Dharmendra.

“How will I take on Modi....there is no one to speak with me in the House,” Mulayam reportedly remarked at a review meeting of the party here on Friday.

SP leaders said that the party supremo, who appeared to be very upset with the performance of the party in the polls, made the remarks in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav.

“Akshoy is a novice and Dimple cannot speak,” he remarked.
This is Mulayam's opinion of the woman of his house, his bahu, whom he chose to represent a parliamentary constituency, of Dimple Yadav, that "she cannot speak"!

Mainpuri a very tough nut to crack for BJP. But if it is to be cracked then no better time than in the next by-election. It is a Yadav stronghold with about 35% Yadavs, 19% SC and only ~4% Muslims. Mulayam typically gets 50-55% of votes in Mainpuri.

It is a bye-election, and everybody knows how it went the last time -
1) Mulayam won the seat.
2) NaMo wave swept UP with 73/80 seats.
3) There is a BJP govt. at the Center and a BJP MP would have more access to it. And it is about 5 years of access.

Everybody knows how strong each party is.

Last time BSP came third. Voting for BSP again this time doesn't change anything. So I wonder if it would be possible for BJP
- to get their votes, as well as
- to get a higher voting %age, as well as
- dampen Yadav voters voting for Tej Pratap Yadav, as Mulayam dumped the voters for Azamgarh, and the one standing is not the big boss Yadav

That is how NCR has been or is being developed. Satellite townships like Gurgaon NOIDA Gaziabad and Faridabad are developed with that idea in Mind. But the pressure of population throws all planning away. What is needed is to develop other centres of economic growth, urban centres well connected with HSR and multi modal transport system within a given cluster is the answer.

There are many alternative models of which High rise is one , and may not be the best and cluster development is another. We need to see what is more suited. But ultimately pressure of city migration needs to be eased first. That can be done by developing second and third tier cities into economic power houses.

Some articles have been castigating BJP for only getting 31% of the vote and thus not having sufficient mandate for any radical changes.

Some facts:

In 2009 Congress contested 440 seats and got 28.55%.
In 2014 BJP contested 427 seats and got 31%.

In 2009 UPA won 37.22% of the votes.
In 2014 BJP also won around 38%.

For BJP to contest (2014) less seats than Congress (2009) and still getting 2.45% more votes means it has a far bigger mandate than Congress received in 2009, not just seat-wise but also vote-share wise.

In fact BJP translated two-thirds of all seats it contested.

Even in 1984, when Congress got 414 seats it had 49.1% votes and not over 50%.

In 2009 Congress got 119,110,776 votes. In 2014 BJP got 171,459,286 votes.

There is no denying Modi has all the mandate he needs.

Mainpuri is a safe seat for SP, I think the only reason he is Azamgarh is that they might have lost it incase a 'lesser' candidate was put up for the by-election.

RajeshA: all that matters at the end of the day in terms of mandate is how many seats he has. He has a clear majority in that and therefore full power to effect the changes he would like. The vote shares are immaterial.

I have been a critic and will continue to keep a watchful eye. But the best thing about this election in my view is that there is a clear mandate and a freeing from the compulsions of coalition politics it has entailed. Vajpayee could have achieved so much more if he were not hostage to all the smaller parties in the coalition. Modi now has a great opportunity to redefine the nature of our Government and undertake deep systemic reforms.

Good luck to him for taking India forward. That in the end binds us together even if our political views are different.

well said Sridhar saar.

meanwhile, WB update : yesterday, around 5000 ( ) RSP workers, including panchayat pradhans and the like joined BJP. with this BJP also gained 2 panchayats.
when an empire starts unraveling, it is the peripheries that grow cold first. left front's smaller allies are breaking away at breakneck speed, even CPIM is losing cadres to the BJP at an alarming rate (for them). interestingly enough a significant number of muslims are joining BJP.

WB was supposed to hold municipal elections around july but frightened by BJP's prospects, as they are winning a number of those going by LS election voteshare, mumtaz begum is trying to postpone it to september, when they hope BJP wave would taper out. state EC mira pandey will probably go to court against this.

As for the TN-KL axis, the KL lock-in to two fronts will be far more easier to crack than the TN parochialism inspired political outfits. In KL which has no significant regional parties, with time will push the left supporters more to the centrist positions and the current Congress supporters more to the right...BJP. The rising standards of living across board is what will do this transformation and not some wooly ideology.

Let him, and others like him stay in the Congress. Its better to hedge one's bets. Tomorrow if the congress comes to power its better to have to have it under the leadership of people like him than another dynasty stooge.

Amit Shah was amazingly accurate in predicting voting trends in favour of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh and even elsewhere in the country. But for a man who was so clued in, he was way off the mark in insisting that the BSP would be the No. 2 party in the state after the BJP. Mayawati’s party drew a blank and cynics suggest that the BJP in-charge for UP deliberately floated the rumour of the BSP’s better performance so as to confuse Muslim voters. Shah thus succeeded in dividing the minority vote.

Ignoring advice

During the last days of the campaign in UP, Amit Shah got a feedback from Amethi that the mood in the constituency was quite unfavourable towards Rahul Gandhi. Since the Congress seemed unaware that Rahul was on a weak wicket, Shah urged Smriti Irani not to bring this to public notice.

Shah sent the BJP candidate from Amethi several e-mails urging her to keep away from journalists. But Irani ignored the messages. Because of the extensive publicity that Irani received, the Congress was alerted to the fact that all was not well in Amethi. The party hastily sent reinforcements in the last fortnight of the campaign. Rahul finally won by a little over a lakh votes — much below his usual margin — suggesting that Irani should have heeded Shah’s advice.
This time Chaankya (Shah) was younger in age than Chandragupta (Modi)

He should be offered a ministerial post of Gujarat if he is willing to join BJP. He is a hardcore RSS guy who joined Cong some years back at being sidelined by BJP for CM post, in favour of Modi. I think his comments wishing that Modi would now be able to make Ram Mandir were not off the cuff. They were deliberate to rile the Cong leadership. And now these comments trashing Rahul -- something is brewing.
He is the ex-CM of Gujarat. Do you think he will accept to be just a minister.
Anyways he has burnt his bridges, the world has moved on and now BJP has strong line of leaders in Gujarat. SV can continue to do "Christina fair" to dynasty.

Does this not invite disqualification under the anti-defection law? :-?

Sarc just in case anybody missed it.
actually tharoor has not standing to question sonia/rahul. he is not a mass leader himself. his type of 'leader' and gandhi family type of leadership attract each other.

so, he does not have any standing to question this arrangement.

This is apparently the reason
Senior TDP MLA Yanamala Ramakrishnudu too made it clear that YSRCP can't impose a whip as it is just registered party but not recognised political party. This is said to be opening doors for many more leaders to join the legion. Looks like, Jagan is going to bore the brunt of his leaders. - See more at: http://www.gulte.com/news/27292/30-YSRC ... rpCG8.dpuf
