Err re: SG, RaGa Sr continued down the illustrious path of his ancestors starting with Nahru who with all is western pretensions forced down indic throats that he was born to lead unwashed masses. Same with MKG - again parachuted in to lead with a ring of white ladies around him thus proving that he was better than the rest. And IG with her questionable marital history and utter disregard to come clean. No wonder that RaGa Sr thought that he was too good for anyone indic.

Dynasty chamchas piping up again:

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1140614/j ... 5x6F3aGcXU
New Delhi, June 13: The Congress appears to be in a dilemma on the approach to adopt towards the Narendra Modi government, with many senior leaders extremely critical of those that want to pursue the role of “constructive Opposition” in contrast with the “brazen obstructionism” the BJP chose in the past 10 years.

These leaders believe the BJP should be paid back in its own coin and shown how destructive using Parliament as a political battlefield can be for national interest. Although the top leadership does not appear receptive to the idea, some key party functionaries have argued against extending unbiased cooperation to the government saying little significance is attached to positivity now.

That's really funny. They're not even an official leader of opposition. The entire opposition can gang up together in some imaginary world where no regional party bothers to think of their state's wellbeing, and the BJP will still conduct business as usual because they have more than simple majority. The more the opposition boycotts proceedings, the better the NDA's functional 2/3rds majority.

^^^ There is a saying "Miya'ji gire par unki tangdi unchi" - That is a dog'erel to show a Miya (honorific for a mullah, but used as a pun to buttonhole and point out somebody unworthy of that honorific) falls hard on his head but still says that the H&D is retained since the legs are up!

CONgoons are not even an opposition, but they will behave like they are the leader of opposition for the next 5 years. Modi should every 3-4 months take out a cat out of bag called Leader of Opposition, make the CONgoons dance around, squirm around and put it back in the bag. Spread dissension in CONgoons ranks. Like a slow poison that CONgoons will definitely get high on.

I hope the BJP does not fall for this clamour from Congress to grant it the LoP position.

The way I see it, NaMo needs to get the AIADMK and the BJD on its side, with sops to their states. Then the real opposition line up in Parliament would be Cong + Trinamool + Left + SP + BSP + RJD + TRS + MIM + Assorted. These parties together would be less than half of Lok Sabha + Rajya Sabha.

What is opposition ? The BJP is the undoubted central power. They have overwhelming power in multiple northern states and are currently threatening to expand further into UP, Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal at least, if not further. The next RS reshuffle is in two years, and the BJPs current state wins and any future ones, will expand their seat share in RS further. The RS cannot block bills; they are only a factor when we talk of sweeping constitutional reforms. My bet is that Modi will not jump into that right away, but will consolidate in RS using state elections in the next two years. Until then, what can RS do ? Nothing. State leaders ultimately want to be in on the national gravy train. None of them are in it for the principle of opposing. If it serves them, they'll happily go along with Modi's agenda to keep the money flowing to them.

Kakkaji: the prior precedent for this was in 1984. RaGa the First, rotated the LoP among all the rump opposition parties. That got them all fighting each other for the right to be the next LoP. Modi may do this, or simply say no LoP at all. Both are good options, depending on circumstances. As it stands, right now there is no LoP. There may be one later if circumstances dictate that Modi wants to look magnanimous in order to divide the opposition using the LoP bait, as opposed to uniting them as they seek the LoP position to be available.

given modi's popularity, i doubt regional parties can afford to do obstructionism on sensible bills that need to pass in RS. it will only be congress, left, mulayam etc who will oppose no matter what. jj and naveen would agree to good bills in return for help with their own development.

and i fully expect modi to rectify this situation by getting more assy seats in coming elections to increase tally in RS within couple of years.

anyways, this is not like massa where one senator can play obstructionism with filibustering, or one group in congress hold the legislative process in suspension by their threat of veto on speaker.

NaMo needs to present a well-researched white paper on how exactly did the UPA sarkar screw up the economy to the extent that NaMo had to mention its overhang in his Goa address today. Let the discussion start in the MSM about very clearly enunciated points with supporting data. Let there be questions on why certain decisions were made by UPA and how they affected the economy. A charge sheet as BRF had advocated before the elections - now is the time to bring it up with known facts and figures.

VARANASI: Three bags filled with nearly 145 kg of highly explosive ammonium nitrate were found in an abandoned car in Dafi area here today, police said.

The explosives were found by police on a vehicle checking drive at National Highway here under Lanka police station, circle officer of Bhelupur area Shalini said.

The car was coming from Allahabad and when the driver saw policemen checking vehicles, he abandoned it, parked it on a side lane and fled from there, she said.

Sonia keeps Cong reins
New Delhi, June 14: Sonia Gandhi has ended speculation about her role by unambiguously stating that she will “lead from the front” till the Congress regains its glory.

Rahul Gandhi will, therefore, continue to play a supportive role for much longer than initially expected. :(

Sonia, who was on her first post-poll visit to constituency Rae Bareli yesterday, expressed her resolve to fight till the Congress returns to power at the Centre with a thumping majority.

Party sources admit the scale of defeat might have slowed down the process of transition, although there is little doubt that Rahul is the future of the Congress. 8) There are murmurs of dissent against Rahul’s style of functioning, plus explicit opposition to his key advisers. But nobody so far has raised a finger at Sonia’s leadership.

Sonia is the authority every Congress worker bows to and even sparring senior leaders surrender before her. The election debacle has ensured Rahul will require more time and struggle to acquire that legitimacy. There are many leaders, particularly from the Hindi heartland, who feel Rahul should step back for a while and focus on connecting with people in key states.

Sonia made it clear to party workers in Rae Bareli that blaming the “bad product” for the defeat was not the correct approach as the Manmohan Singh government had significant achievements that could not be publicised.

She stressed the need to reach out to the people and regain their trust. Party workers said the disconnect with the masses over 10 years, both by ministers and senior leaders, was behind the 44-seat shocker. Sonia singled out Uttar Pradesh as a state where “the party has to begin from scratch”.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP jumped from nine seats to 71 while the Congress slumped from 22 to two. The vote percentage was more scary: while the BJP polled 42.3 per cent votes, the Congress got merely 7.5 per cent.

The Samajwadi Party and the BSP did badly in terms of seats but they got 22.2 per cent and 19.6 per cent votes respectively, indicating it was the Congress that faced the brunt of the people’s wrath.

In terms of Assembly seats, the Lok Sabha results suggest the Congress would get merely 15 against the BJP’s 328 in the state.

Another fact reflects the depth of the crisis: the strongest of Congress candidates such as Salman Khurshid, Beni Prasad Verma, Jitin Prasada, Nirmal Khatri and Pradeep Jain ended up fourth.

Muslim anger was manifested in Moradabad where the party veteran, Begum Noor Bano, came fifth. Cricketer Mohammed Kaif and actor Ravi Kishan fetched just 58,127 and 42,759 votes respectively.

The message from the voters was: No Congress.

True.

But NaMo and NaMo-vaadies had created a myth since jan-2012 that all that is needed is to change captain, and things will get fixed in 24 hours !! They both opposed all law-drafts needed to fix India. And they never informed Indian activists and voters about how weak the Indian Military has become due to misrule of PVNR, ABV, MMS etc and how bad the economy too has become in past 23 years since 1991. Even Sonia's decision of suppressing census-2011 religion/language data was supported by BJP etc.

So NaMo and NaMo-vaadies created the myth that "all that is needed is a good captain to fix the things in 24 hours". So now let them suffer the heat generated by feeling that -- "well, things didnt change in 24 hours, so the new captain must be as compromised as previous one".

The Congress are not in a position to influence the choice of LoP. The BJP has declined to elevate any opposition party to that role:
India's Parliament Will Have No Opposition Leader
Regarding the question of the Rajya Sabha, here are more details from the article above:
The Congress Party has a plurality of seats in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of India’s bicameral legislature). Congress continues to field 67 legislators there while the BJP fields just 42. The UPA coalition has 79 out of the 245 seats comprising the Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha is notably less powerful than the Lok Sabha particularly because all that is needed for financial bills to be legally passed is approval by the Lok Sabha — if the Rajya Sabha does not approve a financial bill, it is still considered to have passed. Similarly, the Rajya Sabha does not have the power to initiate a motion of no confidence in the government.
Of course, that didn't prevent Sonia from demanding it:
Congress should get Leader of Opposition post, says Sonia Gandhi

Who told that every thing will be fixed in 24 hours?

Did the people elect Govt for 24 hours or 5 years?

You have this concept of how great Guj was ruled by CONGis in 1990s in spite of stupid economy, 24x7x365 riots where as Modi/BJP are all dangerous MNC/EJ agents who with the help of PAIDMEDIA selling nation. You also LIE how all Gujarat had 24x7 electricity.

Things are being fixed. Anti-national/Islamic/western elements planted by CON MAFIA/Western powers in media, Govt, bureaucracy and NGOs have to eliminated brick by brick. It will take time. The poison injected by CONGis, SONIA has to be removed from the system. Along with that, we have to fight the vested interests of all Indians by their caste/religion/identity. Your party Congress created a system for 60+ years to pit one group against another and destroyed the concept of fairness/justice in the society. There is no concept of national interest among Indians. This is your gift to the country. For the first time in a long time, Modi made people across UC/OBC/SC/ST to think of India as one and development of India as a goal.

{deleted} in the last 50 years have never made people to think country as one and people as Indians. Did they? It is Muslims vs SCs vs OBC vs UC. Did you once raise your voice against it? once? Did you?

Indeed, I see this picture as a great victory of the Indic forces in the war against the "outsiders". May we inflict more such blows and Sri.Modi knows how to work such psyche angles.

A Sikh in his place, Sri Manmohan Singh would have been a bigger blow but unfortunately Sri Manmohan was no Sardar.

More Pritviraj Chouhan syndrome, of being magnanimous to feed the hand that would regroup and strike back. Foolish magnanimity is the root cause for the downfall and misery in Bharatvarsha for a very long time.

Meant to say that the previous PM could have done this as well and it would pack a punch of a Sardar posing a direct challenge to China as Sri.Modi has done.

let not the significance of the picture be lost. A Dharmic leader of Bharath visiting a Dharmic neighbour and bowing to Indic religious greats where a Dharmic sampradaya fused itself with the native Bon religion and helped it move further deep into China and eventually onto Japan. This should send a shiver down Communist leaders in China, the bulk of their people were once part of this family and can be easily drawn back to it with their demise.

or maybe I am reading too much into it.

Could someone tell me what is the utility of Rajya Sabha and is it really reuqired in current day India?

Have never known what really is its purpose other than feeding 245 oldies with taxpayer money ( have the same view about the President of India too)

Atri mian..... What a picture. Hats off to the photographer who took the picture, and thanks for posting it. Modi manages to surprise yet again. Bhutan, ye were ignored. The left-most column of guards have a different uniform than the red-colored guards in the middle.

On a different note, Modi landed at Paro airport (from what what I read). Paro is one of the trickiest airports in the world to land in. In fact, the pilots need some sort of special training/certification to land at that specific airport. 2.5 minute video (there are others too). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSRjPezTMOc;; longer video, start at 6 min if needed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsZqN-uEgQU

^^^Only the Bhutan airlines is allowed to operate flights in and out of Paro. PM Narendra Modi flew in IAF plane into the airport...those chaps would know a thing or two about landing in 'tricky' places. As it is, we have the IMTRAT - Indian Military Training Team - in Bhutan for ages now. So, IAF would have been operating in and out of Paro for quite some time.
