All this doesn't happen overnight. Don't forget MKN was Governor of West Bengal for past few years while MB was developing her own LTTE.

The allegation is that the TMC took money from the Jamat to fight elections and swing Muslim votes and after getting elected used Sarada chit fund money to pay back Jamat in Bdesh which was being channeled into fighting the Hasina regime. If true it means the Mamata-led govt was either hand-in-glove with anti-national activities or at least looked the other way like MMS.

WB needs to fall soon. It is a festering wound on our eastern flank. MKN was a nationalist but could only see things through the Gandhi lens. His role as governor was just a nice retirement package.

MKN is less important as governor has limited powers and he may not be in the know when this happened. The question is how high this went in the TMC leadership. My educated guess is that such a trans-national transaction cannot happen in a single leader party like the TMC without the supreme leader's knowledge. So Didi either knew or was part of it.

Why do you all act so surprised? werent you warned time and again about the network having spread roots on both sides of the border, its nodes being Islamic institutions like (but not restricted to) madrassahs, that it appears to get solid protection and therefore connections/infiltrations into state admin/law enforcement.

When I warned about these, I also did on territorial consolidation and linking up of Muslim enclaves on Indian side of the border, and all previous in-power political parties of the state effectively quashing Hindu resistance and intervening on the side of Islamics.

I had said - to someone taking up reputation/intent cudgels on behalf of the new NDA, who thought that mere tightening of the border/positioning the IA would cure the problem - that merely border-management would do nothing unless the institutional network of the mullah inside, was destroyed.

Its not the non-Muslim lower level goons/toughs of CPIM, who I predicted would shift to TMC, who are getting into these jihadi networks. Its the muslims who had been in left, and who switched to TMC, as well as those in INC, who provide the support network. Muslims had always been very very clear as to who to support and extract protection from - from anyone willing to do so, and preferably any non-Muslim dominated force who were likely to succeed while not ideologically opposed to Islam, all towards the longer term goal of total Islamization of the entire population and territory.

Marten ji, while the governor and the CM cannot be directly provably associated with patronizing the jihadis - they are privy to too much info to claim ignorance. The political role, base of the CM also makes her suposed inability/innocence of the growing jihadi network - rather unbelievable. If she or the governor have stayed silent, then they must be able to show good reason for it - ethically and actionwise: say that they have ordered covert ops against jihadis proving their intent and will to oppose jihadis, (in this case silence/playing dumb/innocent can be justified as part of tactics).

My experience of politics in that entire belt - from eastern-UP, jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Bengal and Assam - says this "innocence/ignorance" is very nearly impossible to happen.

They kept shut out of electoral considerations and also out of fear - that a full fledged jihadi onslaught is something they cannot stop, and they fear they will be blamed for. So for them a better way is simply to appease and postpone the inevitable - hopefully.

B-ji,
A long time ago (in early 80s, in fact), Congress was selling the line that the Bengali Muslims (read Bangladeshi Muslims) were a good hedge against the unreliable North eastern population (in particular, in the contest of the Assamese andolan against the large scale demographic invasion of Muslims from Bangladesh). The regions south of the Brahmaputra in Assam were where they were supposed to stay and provide a counter to any separatist ambitions of Assam. Was this a deliberate move to let in Bangladeshis to keep the North East in line, or was this just post facto rationalisation of something they could not stop?

The rot (placading the illegal migrants across the border) started under the left rule, but they didn't get caught red-handed. Only to keep her seat intact MB took placading the illegals to a new level, and in the process willy-nilly fell in Jamaat's influence. Under LF, the civil supplies minister kalimuddin Shams issued 70,000 ration cards in one day to illegal ones from a "particular community" in Khiddirpore-Garden Reach area.

^^^ Mostly Muslim politicians are behind allowing BD illegals into India as a way to increase the population of momins in certain targetted areas. They are driven by the Ummah vision and claiming the land of infidels for Islam by trying to outnumber them. That is all. Hindus like Mamta, Cong and Commies are, as usual, useful idiots in their own destruction.

True, Ramana-ji. It was expanded under Deb Kant Barua (originator of Ali-Coolie-Bengali vote bank for Congress). There was a brief period of slowdown of illegal immigration under Sarat Chandra Sinha, but it once more rose under Anowara Taimur and has continued since then. But I am wondering whether it was a conscious policy of letting in BDs to cut down Assamese Hindus to size, or whether it was just venal votebank politics.

We know that Amreekis were quite keen on Khaleda and BNP in Bangladesh, while India most certainly was not. We also recall the meeting between Hillary and Mamta sometime back.

Is it reasonable to assume that much of the present events can be linked to these happenings? That WB is being used by an array of forces, which are likely to include elements in USSD to force out Sheikh Hasina and bring back Khaleda and JeI..

Oh no no .... it goes back to pre-independence era of Raj where one Sir Sadullah was the CM of Assam and started scam called 'grow more rice' to clear and cultivate the empty areas of the brahmaputra valley. in this context, lakhs of BD settlers from the south were transported and settled in various parts of assam esp the west, south and central region.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammed_Saadulah

It is also interesting to note that Saadulla also remained a close friend and associate of the Punjab Premier/Chief Minister Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan (in power from 1937 to 1942) and was also a member of the Executive Committee of the All India Muslim League which met in March 1940, at Lahore, to draft the Lahore or ' Pakistan Resolution '.

The government makes an attempt to whitewash certain historical aspects of the issue, including the fact that the arrival of illegal Bangladeshis in Assam started not just as a simple migration between Assam and erstwhile East Bengal in undivided India. No mention is made, for example, of the “Grow More” programme initiated by Assam’s “premier” Sir Syed Mohammed Sadullah in 1937. The programme had involved relocation of people from Assam’s Mymensingh district to Assam to grow more foodgrain. As one British officer said, it was not a programme to grow more grain but to grow more people of a certain community. Sadullah’s programme was opposed by Maulana Md Tyebullah and Gopinath Bordoloi, both Congressmen. Equations, however, changed after Congress leaders began to come to power with votes from illegal migrants.

The white paper attempts to equate the migration of people from Mymemsingh to that of people from Rajasthan and other areas in India, which is not entirely true.

“It is positive to note some beneficial effects of migration of peasants from East Bengal,” says the white paper. “Because of the agricultural practices of the hardworking immigrants and their contribution to the agricultural economy, rice production increased significantly. A number of vegetables and crops were also introduced by the migrants”.
---

I think Maulana Tyebullah was his own father. per wiki he came from golaghat in upper assam. so appears to be a descendent of the muslim POW's reresettled by the Ahoms in various places and made citizens over time...ie a son of the soil....not surprising he opposed his son's scheme but by then perhaps too old and weak to stop it.

Ehh? Sylhet had 60.7% Muslims (according to Census of India 1941). http://www.columbia.edu/itc/mealac/prit ... 06app.html

The British divided Sylhet into Muslim majority Sylhet region and hindu majority Karimganj region. Karimganj (and later created district of Hailakandi) remained with India, while Sylhet remained with Bangladesh. By the way, both Hailakandi and Karimganj are today Muslim majority districts.

But yes, but for Gopinath Bordoloi, Nehru would have given Assam to Pakistan.

we would probably have ended up with a islanded "east india" in nagaland, arunachal, manipur, mizoram which would quickly be engulfed by the green tide or in the case of nagaland become independent under the tutelage of american baptist missionaries who had themselves been chased out of yunnan by Mao's forces.

But for SP Mookherjee and the Bengal Congress Nehru would have given entire Bengal to ML perhaps even Punjab. For him India was upto UP and reluctantly Kashmir valley. Sylhet is a sad case. If the Assamese hadn't agreed to its division it would have stayed with India.

One of the major sins were losing Chittagong Hill tracts and Khulna to East Pakistan. I think Patel should have strongly protested about them, and also possibly Umerkot and Tharpakad. If Punjab and Bengal could have been partitioned, why not Sindh.

But that's going off-topic, I will probably post this is the partition thread.

OT, but the Sindhi Hindus were 20-25% of the population (Bengal/Punjab was roughly 50/50) and their leadership did not forcefully demand a homeland. The Bengalis/Punjabis would have lynched Nehru if partition was accepted w/o division. Such was not the case with Sindh.

Yes they were, but in those two districts they formed a majority (even now they are there in substantial numbers).

Burdwan Blast: A Pen Drive with Video on Bomb-making Key for Bengal Terror Investigation
Burdwan: The West Bengal police's handling of the initial investigation into the October 2 blast in Burdwan might have allowed at least three dozen people possibly connected with the explosion that killed two people, to escape to Bangladesh, say sources in the National Investigation Agency or NIA, which now has charge of the investigation.

The sources said the local police had failed to make much headway in the case even after the arrest of three prime suspects in the case. This despite the fact that the Bengal police had also recovered a pen drive from a house in the area, that had a recording of an instructor explaining in Urdu and Bangla how to make bombs, improvised explosive devices and hand grenades.

The pen drive has now been handed over to the NIA, which has, since it began its investigation on Sunday, also reportedly found material suggesting that an abandoned madrasa may have been used as a hub by people linked to the Burdwan blast to make bombs that were exported to Bangladesh.

Quite a few juicy titbits here on MHA thinking under Modi sarkar.

Wish MHA did more work quietly first and then talked about it rather than paint targets on their milestones like this...

Home Ministry ready with tough measures to tackle terrorism (ET)
India needs a dedicated infrastructure in the form of an organisation or a nodal agency to check and counter the exploitation of cyberspace and media by jihadi groups. The government is also contemplating an intensive physiological warfare programme to counter the jihadi propaganda aimed at luring Indian youths and to expose the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, officials said.

There is no dedicated desk at present in any intelligence organisation in India to monitor social media for indoctrination attempts, officials pointed out. Terror outfit Tauheed-Ul-Ansar, for instance, recently used Twitter and YouTube to declare the death of a Karnataka youth, Anwar Hussain, in Afghanistan.

The home ministry is seeking inputs from the Intelligence Bureau, R&AW and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval regarding the new policy.

New York Times editorial.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/18/opini ... risis.html
An infected person travels from West Africa to India and seeks treatment at an underfinanced and overwhelmed public hospital. There, substandard treatment unleashes an Ebola pandemic. It’s the nightmare scenario set out by Peter Piot, the British microbiologist who first identified the Ebola virus. About 45,000 Indians live in West Africa, and Indian trade with Nigeria, particularly in medical services and pharmaceuticals, has boomed.

However, India’s most troubling threat is not abroad, but at home: the crippled public health system. The nation spends less than 1 percent of its gross domestic product on public health care. There are only nine hospital beds per 10,000 in India, compared with 41 per 10,000 in China, and doctors, nurses and lab technicians are critically lacking.

The Indian government has already shown itself incapable of dealing with lethal viral diseases. As many as 80 percent of the 30 million Indians infected with dengue fever every year never seek medical care or are turned away from hospitals whose beds are full. Ebola would quickly overwhelm such strained hospitals. The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised a universal health insurance plan inspired by the Affordable Care Act in the United States. This would help more people afford care but do little to plug the gaping holes in the system.

The government has set up screenings for Ebola at international airports and prepared isolation wards. And, so far, no cases have been found in India. The nation has also contributed $12.5 million to contain the Ebola virus in West Africa and has pledged to use its expertise in producing low-cost drugs to develop an affordable vaccine.

But with the World Health Organization warning that Ebola infection rates could rise to 10,000 new victims a week by the end of the year in West Africa, and the fumbles dealing with Ebola in Spain and America, improving India’s public health system is a national emergency.

MHA raises concern over use of Aadhaar as add proof in telecom

New Delhi, Oct 16, 2014
The Home Ministry has raised serious objection to a proposal of the Department of Telecom to use the Aadhar card as valid proof of address for mobile subscribers. DH photo

The Home Ministry has raised serious objection to a proposal of the Department of Telecom to use the Aadhar card as valid proof of address for mobile subscribers.

The objection was raised over the DoT's move to use UIDAI number as an address proof through online verification system called e-KYC (Know Your Customers) programme.

However, the Home Ministry said even though 'Aadhaar' is strong on ensuring unique identity, its uniqueness of identity is not a necessary condition to ensure authenticity of identity or genuineness of other entries or records of Aadhaar number, Home Ministry officials said.

Besides, the Home Ministry strongly objects to any move to allow the telecom operators to access the Aadhar database.

The Home Ministry has raised concerns over supporting documents submitted by people as proof of identity and proof of address for getting a Aadhaar number.

The DoT is working on proof of concept (e-KYC) to use Aadhaar number for online verification of people seeking mobile connections along with existing process of customer verification.

Aadhaar card can be also issued to foreign nationals staying in the country, which has also been questioned by the Home Ministry as nationals of countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan may attempt to use it to procure Indian identity documents for infiltrating their agents.

The Home Ministry has said that unlike Aadhaar, other acceptable proof of address documents such as passport, driving licence do not have the status of universality and therefore "even higher levels of error in these documents may not translate into comparable volume of security concerns".

It said that Intelligence Bureau is neither aware of back-end systems, e-processing and e-auditing existing in Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar, nor knows how data is transmitted between units of UIDAI and how data are stored.

The Home Ministry has also raised concern on involvement of foreign vendors by UIDAI for storing data and has suggested audit of data security.

nageshks ji,
it was both "unable to stop" plus the preexisting and deepening mullah-INC axis. It was also about keeping Assam-"Hindu" under pressure. The more this region can be kept bleeding each other locally - the better for JLN-dynasty and the coterie around it lighting up Lutyen's aura in Mughal jaulush.

Singha ji,
you are forgetting the case of "referendum". The then Assam congress apparently did its best to prevent Bengali Hindus of Sylhet managing to vote in the referendum. Maybe they did not want any Muslim at all, so thought of shedding the entire area. Alternatively, just like in Bihar the fire of "Ahom in existential crisis because of Bengalis" was lighted up by the Brits at about the same time it was done in Bihar and UP - so, the then Assam pradesh congress's mindset was merely an anticipation of the "Bangali kheda" movement to come.

In "Bengal" the Nehruvian apparent "readiness" to concede was checked by the intransigence of the groups containing people like Atulya Ghosh: whose bargaining power probably led in their potential value as a younger batch of Bengal Congress who could be used against the "big-five" including Sarat Bose. Sarat Bose et al were favouring united Bengal and even potential separate independence, together with Fajlul Haque. Ghosh et al opposed this and hence turned up against Bose group. Eliminating the Bose group from Bengal Congress influence was more important for Nehruvian dynastic Delhi coterie - so they made a show of giving in to Roy/Ghosh group (or rather the so-called Hooghly group - with a significant origin in anarchist/Left initial forays, Ghosh was among the group who were introduced to Lenin's works in jail by Bhupendranath Dutta).

The way this concession/territorial business was conducted, reflects more a concern to weaken the regional congresses, division of the political forces of the "hindu", and if possible to traumatize them for generations in a way that would prevent them taking serious involvement in politics that could threaten dynastic coterie power.

The above narrative misses a very key issue-The distrust between bengalis and assamese. The Lutyens elite are constrained by the realities on ground. The competition between bengalis and assamese in Assam is a fact. The tension between tamils and kannadigas, andhras and telenganites were not invented by Congress.the Delhi elite were no paragons of virtue but they were no epitome of vice either.

[quote]The then Assam congress apparently did its best to prevent Bengali Hindus of Sylhet managing to vote in the referendum.[quote]

It was not the Congress in Delhi which did that. The National leadership had to accomodate the Assamese hindu, the Bengali hindu and the muslim bengali in that order as far as Assam was concerned. It easy for armchair analysts to pontificate, but the Sylheti Bengali Hindus and the Assamese hindu of Brahmaputra valley did not see eye to eye.The Sylheti culture was an extension of east bengal hindu civilisation while the Assamese hindus drew inspiration from ancient kamrupa. Its to the credit of assamese, bengali and national congress that the bengali identity is intact in Silchar,Assam.
