The bakis react like a spoilt kid who thinks the world would end and his parents would immediately surrender if he throws a tantrum.. Someone needs to tell baldy sharif that a 'Dehati Aurat' wouldn't complain so much as she has tonnes more in dignity compared to the shameless bakis.. :((

Well I am not sure if there was immediate retaliation today after pakis fired small weapons this morning.

I think pakis are playing shrewd by lowering jihad just to be able to rebuild something without actually lowering temper. We need to hit harder and deeper every time to destroy more and more terrorist infrastructure. If possible mine their own approach routes, when jihadis run away with their mush, within paki occupied territories and provide cover fire every time pukes try to de-mine their own areas. Step by step mine far and farther still.

Need of the hour:

A civilian, Non-profit, sat, that provides 24x7, real-time feed on all of PoK, with provision for anyone to save the feed.

We need to collect RT data for a period of 5-10 years. The type of info that we think about WRT NK, as an example.

And, of course, the Paki "civilians" could also use the feed to improve their understanding too. More than welcome.

Question : Is this firing from Iranian side with any malafide intentions or reasons ? Or for protecting its border from infiltrations of terrorists from our side ? If not with any objectionable reasons then like any country Iran also has the right to do take pre-emptive actions. After all isn't Iran been requesting us since long to take measures to stop infiltrations ?

Let's admit that we will not get flowers from our neighbors as we have failed to act in timely manner to curb the organizations who are operating against all our neighbors i.e India, Afghanistan, Iran and China. You reap what you sow.

I am still in a state of shock to see Iran's actions. Have they no respect for Muharram either? It's better to know their true colors than believe they are our friends.

Unfazed by China’s objections over the development of border areas, the government on Friday announced the setting up of 54 new border outposts and a Rs 175-crore package to beef up the infrastructure along the boundary in Arunachal Pradesh, as home minister Rajnath Singh expressed anguish over reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan and recent incursions by Chinese troops, saying while “India wants peace with honour, peace cannot come at the cost of honour”. The minister’s remarks came on a day the external affairs ministry said India was a country of over a billion people and could “not be overawed” by the coming “so-called Million March” in London on Sunday being organised by pro-Pakistan elements there on the Kashmir issue.

China checks: India to double border outposts, use drones in Arunachal Pradesh
NEW DELHI: Though much of the border trouble vis-a-vis China has been visible in Leh-Ladakh region recently, it is the Arunachal Pradesh border which is most vulnerable because of its terrain and lack of infrastructure. In view of this, home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday announced that ITBP border outposts (BoPs) in Arunachal would be more than doubled and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) deployed for effective surveillance.

This would eventually result in infusion of close to 10 more battalions (around 10,000 soldiers) in the region, considerably increasing the presence of Indian forces in Arunachal. Singh also announced sanction of Rs 175 crore for repair and maintenance of border infrastructure in the state.

The announcement comes even as China has raised serious objections to India constructing roads and other infrastructure in Arunachal, which it has often claimed as its own.

From Siachen’s heights, NaMo made a cracker of a point on Diwali
Today, she said emphatically, she has confidence in the new Prime Minister’s ability to motivate a tired and demoralized Army. For far too long, she insisted, our soldiers were made to heedlessly sacrifice their lives, because of political interference and an appalling level of corruption that had left the country vulnerable and weakened. She was glad Modi was taking a tough, aggressive stand.

She felt reassured and confident that a zero-tolerance position was being established against those using force against India. And then she told me something pretty chilling. “They were told to DUCK bullets and not fire back! Can you imagine any trained, self-respecting soldier ducking enemy bullets?” she said, her eyes were burning with outrage.

Shiv, I normally go to extremes not to use expletives on the forum, but in this one case, I think it warrants an exception. You credit that worthless ba$tard Aiyar with things like shame. He even went onto claim at a public event in UP, that outrage over soldiers being beheaded was not good, because soldiers are meant to be used in war etc anyhow, and anyways a few soldiers getting killed was nothing to be worried about. It was reported even in colloquial media. If any one individual in India has deserved to be loathed, its that piece of cr@p.

Somewhat OT, but:
Our British inspired cantonment culture sealing the natives away from the military wallahs sealed latter off also from our noxious politico inspired corruption, but also reinforced negative stereotypes of civvies amongst military, but most germane here, ensured outrageous stuff like the above, rarely if ever percolates to the public, allowing third rate politicians to pass such directives and then not have it revealed because of tight lockdown of media by the same cabal. A hand picked cabal of retired afsars is also savvily used to manage the perception, track 2 talks and even run down maverick peers or whistleblowers.

In other countries, where civilian and military divide is not so much, parents and family would have jammed up social media with the reality & the politicians would have been double quick to consider their actions.

Even from the days of nehru, the army and national defence in general has been portrayed as a necessary evil that peaceful India must live with. That's the main reason why the Indian military has been pathetically armed with zero political teeth. nehru with his delusional left/british/secular ideals actually believed that the world is a fair and just place and we will have no security concerns if we remained pissful.

The Civil society-National military divide has been fostered and propagated since by the sickular media to poison the country's mind. That's why sickulars in the media can get away with movies like Haider, one of the "most liked" films this year apparently. Most of these dimwits might not even know the ground reality of Kashmir terrorists and the political/economic treachery our forces have to face there.

It's time we stop worrying about India having a "peaceful" image and b more practical. This disease of being peaceful at the cost of national interest was started by the Great Ashoka after he converted to Buddhism. Giving up everything in the name of "peace". Obviously several hundred generations succeeding him suffered because of that.

The country must have only one goal- Preservation of National interest no matter what happens. You can't have peace when your very survival is in doldrums.

Pakistan Summons Indian Envoy Over Killing of 'Inadvertent Crosser' Allegedly By BSF Troops
by Deepshikha Ghosh
Link: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/pakis ... ops-613728

New Delhi: Pakistan today summoned India's acting high commissioner in Islamabad to protest against the killing of an "inadvertent crosser" by Indian troops at the border. A statement from Pakistan said the man, Touqeer, was cutting grass at an area in Narowal when he and two others inadvertently crossed the International Border and were fired at by the Border Security Force or BSF.

"Indian BSF troops fired without any warning, injuring Touqeer, while the other two managed to return. Immediately, a Company Commander level contact was established by Pakistan Rangers to take over the injured Pakistani, but the BSF troops refused and took the injured across the fence. Later, he passed away in the custody of BSF troops," said the statement. Accusing Indian soldiers of violating Border Ground Rules, Pakistan said India "must respect the lives of civilians and refrain from indiscriminate firing, which has caused loss of precious human lives."

Islamabad claimed another civilian, Muhammad Din, was killed by Indian troops in Rawlakot near the Line of Control. It said in August, a BSF soldier who had also crossed over by mistake "was treated well by Pakistani troops and returned safely as a gesture of goodwill." Around 20 people have died on both sides of the border in recent cross-border firing. India has accused Pakistan of unprovoked firing and shelling to distract its troops and help militants cross over to Jammu and Kashmir.

Japan gets contract to build strategeic roads on Indo-China border
Japanese have been given the job to make strategic roads, mostly bordering China. In a meeting with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) held late last week, India has agreed to give about 2,000 kilometres of road along the Chinese border to JICA. JICA will be providing financial assistance as well as technical expertise to construct and improvise the roads. BRO has about 5,000 km of road under its supervision.
Situated mostly along the North Eastern states and Uttarakhand, these roads are of strategetic importance to India. Improving NH 39 between Imphal and Kohima, roads between Maram and Dimapur and Ukhrul and Tadubi in Manipur, Shillong and Dauki and construction of Dauki bridge in Meghalaya are some of the projects that JICA will be undertaking. Barring Arunachal Pradesh, border roads along all the other North East states will be done by JICA.
Japan is financing and building many of border roads. I hope naughty Modi will invite American companies (it will test American resolve and their commitment to India) to build Arunachal Pradesh roads.

The flip side:

China border highway in Modi’s court
A proposal to build an 1,800km road along the China and Myanmar borders in Arunachal Pradesh is awaiting Narendra Modi’s approval.

“The project proposal has reached the Prime Minister’s Office and it will be up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the decision whether to go ahead,” a top Union home ministry source said.

The road transport and defence ministries have given the preliminary clearances to the home ministry proposal, the source said, adding that the army was on board.

Last month, the government had asked the road transport ministry to conduct a feasibility study for the highway expected to be built at a cost of Rs 50,000 crore.

Modi will now have to take a call on whether to proceed with the road, which is expected to help the local economy and stem migration from the border areas, at the cost of displeasing China.

The day after the project was announced in October, Beijing had said it hoped India would not take any action that could further complicate the border dispute between the two nations.

What if Modi, who recently played warm host to Chinese President Xi Jinping, finds his hands tied by diplomatic compulsions following that trip?

“Then we will build smaller roads along the same route that are permissible under development schemes,” the home ministry source said.

Most of Arunachal’s 1,126km border with China passes though the Himalayas and lacks an adequate road network, offering little economic incentive to local communities not to migrate. As the sparsely populated border gets even more desolate, new settlements have mushroomed on its Chinese side.

The highway, which is to run along the British-drawn McMahon Line — the border that China does not accept — is expected to help ensure tourism and jobs and check the decline in population.

Leaders across parties in Arunachal, including Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju, have spoken of the worrying trend of migration from the border areas. Recently, an Arunachal minister, Kalikho Pul, warned of a “Kargil-like” situation if the border is not developed.

Since the 1962 war with China, the government has thought it wise to keep the tough terrain low on roads as part of a defence strategy. But over the past five years, several plans have been made to upgrade the road network and build feeder roads. The border highway, proposed in the centenary year of the McMohan Line, fits into this larger strategy.

Starting from Tawang (10,000ft) on Arunachal’s westernmost tip, the highway will run virtually parallel to the McMahon Line, linking all big towns and villages in 12 districts, and will end in Vijaynagar (4,200ft), located in a thumb-like protrusion of Indian territory into Myanmar.

The 520km border with Myanmar is more densely populated than that with China.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the road, top Union home ministry sources said. The sources said they did not want to involve the Border Roads Organisation and cited delays in existing projects as a reason.

Raising infrastructure along the China border is a contentious issue, triggering several face-offs between the two sides in Ladakh. In eastern Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district, Chinese incursions have been reported in the past and there is considerable local pressure on the Centre to increase the number of ITBP posts. At present, there are fewer than 50 border outposts.

Another project coming up on the border in Arunachal is an ITBP counter-insurgency and jungle warfare school, which will be in addition to the existing one at Mahidanda in Uttarkashi. The Centre is in the final stages of choosing a location for the training academy.

No China had already done that with Karakoram Highway. India is constructing in its own areas not in areas transferred to it by Japanese.Analogy is wrong on many counts.

Matching military infrastructure being created on Indian side: Arun Jaitley
Apparently with China in mind, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said the government is taking all steps to create matching infrastructure on the Indian side to realise its military potential.

Noting that “our immediate neighbours have already enhanced infrastructure in proximity to the borders”, he said the government has initiated several steps to overcome road blocks such as procedural delays, environmental clearance and shortage of high-technology equipment to hasten the process of building roads in these critical areas.

Addressing the first meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to his Ministry after the new government came to power, Jaitley said, “Based on the strategic reality of our neighbourhood, the government is taking all steps to create matching infrastructure on our side to realise our military potential.”

As far as India-China border roads are concerned, the government has initiated building of 73 roads with a total length 3,812 kms for development, a statement released by the Ministry of Defence said.

Out of this, 61 have been entrusted to Border Roads Organisation (BRO), totalling 3410 kms. BRO has completed 590 kms on 17 roads.

Work on the balance roads structures are under progress and in different stages of completion.

The army has prioritised 22 roads structuring upto 3000 kms for development.

The works on these roads have been taken up by BRO and are being intensively monitored by the Ministry for early completion, the statement said.

Giving details, Director General Border Roads Lt Gen A T Parnaik said that the completion of roads has been affected due to various reasons.

These include delays in obtaining forest/wildlife clearance, difficult terrain conditions, hard road structures, limited working period in a year due to extreme weather conditions, paucity of construction material and challenges posed by natural disasters like flash floods in Leh in 2010, earthquake in Sikkim in 2011, Uttarakhand floods in 2013 and Jammu and Kashmir floods this year.

Lt Gen Parnaik said efforts have been made to overcome the factors coming in the way through greater coordination with Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) , modernisation of BRO and induction of more units and resources.

Jaitley thanked MoEF for easing environmental clearances which has helped in progress of road construction.

He complimented BRO for their work in restoring road links during the recent floods in J&K. “BRO has been an effective initial responder in disaster management,” he said.

Taking part in the discussion, Members of Parliament belonging to various political parties highlighted the yeoman service provided by BRO to the nation since its inception in 1960, the release said.

They were, however, critical about the delay in completion of projects so crucial for the safety and security of the country.

They were also unanimous in their opinion that BRO should be spared of any budget cuts in the event of austerity measures.

Some members wanted that BRO should undergo a “transformational change” to convert it into a highly efficient organisation.

Members of Parliament who attended the meeting included Mallikarjun Kharge, Choudhary Babu Lal, Vijay Sampla, Raj Kumar Singh, Saugata Roy, Rajeeve Chandrasekhar, Mahendra Prasad, T K Rangarajan and H K Dua.

Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh, Defence Secretary R K Mathur, Secretary, Defence Production G Mohan Kumar, Secretary, Defence Finance Vandana Srivastava also attended the meeting.

Until now, the border force was dependent on Indian Air Force for air support to maintain its outposts and rescue the sick or injured from the inhospitable heights of Himalayas where it is posted through the year. For various reasons, IAF choppers are not always available to ITBP.
What a shame. IAF is unable to support ITBP, BSF, CRPF in their ops. If IAF cannot do it then we should ressurrect the Auxillary Air Force and let it provide the support. In any case the lease will probably go to Pawan Hans which in turn employs retired military aviators. IAF is risking irrelevance with constant dilution of turf.

It is a good thing in a way. Decentralization is essential for faster decision making and efficient operations. Let BSF, ITBT, CRPF, have their own choppers and drones just like NSG. There is a reason NSG has their own airplaces, drones and helos. In the US, various SWAT police teams and FBI have a large captive air support capability.

Why are you going ballistic w/o knowing all the facts on the ground?

You posit as if IAF is being incompetent in not being able to support para-military in their operations or line of duty. There can be various reasons for this - from plain old bureaucracy to actual availability of assets. The fact that CPO come under MHA while IAF is under MOD is a reason enough to cause 1001 red-tape issues. BTW, BSF has its own air wing with Mi-17 and even fixed wing assets.

Rohit, it is quite impossible for me or most of the postors here to know all facts on the ground. Nevertheless, i hold my view due to the constant stream of negative media news when it comes to coordination & sharing of IAFs helicopter assets with ground forces - either with CPOs or Army. This has been the case for years and i closely track these developments.

I am concerned about IAF loosing relevance in contemporary COIN conflicts in India if MHA and Cabinet Secretariat continue to raise mini airforces (owned or leased). Going by history (eg: performance of BSF air wing) I doubt these units will be able to match the performance and quality of the air force - which may lead to a disaster one day. Imagine a chopper going down to insurgent fire on own territory.

Old fashioned bureaucracy cannot be the excuse. It has to be overcome - by the ministries, heads, people on the ground.

I think this news item should give you some idea (posting excerpt):

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/sukm ... 05598.html

'Seven hundred of us couldn't stop hundred Maoists, appaled'
On November 30, five of those who participated in the operations were detected with malaria and required immediate evacuation. However a Border Security Force (BSF) helicopter flew in on that day but did not land, citing unfit conditions. "We covered a hillock and slept there for the night. Next morning, you can say our operation had turned into one where we were only scurrying to detect a suitable landing spot for the helicopter," said Pankaj Kumar, another constable.
As luck would have it, coordination with the helicopter fleet for such a massive operation was another debacle. The IAF team at Jagdalpur readied itself to fly but all day the CRPF could not confirm just where to land till it was in the sunset range! "Helipad locations kept changing throughout. At 1610 hours, the fourth location came. And mind you, all along CRPF never uttered a word that there was an ambush. We got curious. Finally, at 1640hrs they asked us to go to evacuate their injured and we couldn't because it was too late. The state government, despite repeated reminders has failed to install equipment which can allow us to land at night. Had they done that even at their Chintagufa camp, where the troops returned that night, we would have evacuated the injured," said a MoD official.
The report points to larger issues. Of which coordination with IAF/BSF is only one aspect.

That's more of an issue in general with the Indian Armed Forces. Interoperability is something to be improved upon.
