That buggy(LSV Light Strike Vehicle) is from singapore techonlogies kinetics. Singapore armed forces as well as the civil defence forces also operate a similar vehicle. Armed with the HMG i think the CIS .50 and with a LMG STK ultimax 100 with the pillion rider next to the driver.
By the way i thought 12 guns/battery and 3 batteries form a Regiment so a total of 36 launchers. That complies with the 1 regiment of smerch we have on order or negotiating.
Its glamorous. Very important. Think of the next series of IA ads showing paras in these buggies zipping across the Thar. Response will be superb.
I remember these old really bad Delta force movies...the one cool thing in those movies was the presence of these cool buggies. One even had a laser gun.
chuck norris saar and the original delta force movie was great s*** for us gun happy teens in 80s, esp the buggies and that x-country bike armed with two rear firing rockets "farts" and takes out the badguy and his car.
I thought IA rocket regiments and heavy arty had
18 per reg.
Okay, now the admins are confusing me. We have a multi-page thread on what NOT to say and then one admin cheerfully draws attention to something with photographic evidence. Shocking I tell you! Shocking! :whine: :whine: :whine:
I had mistaken it to be Arjun carrier but on closer inspection I realised what it was. This cofirms it.

Cant be the Arjun carrier imho, since it appears to have a sliding roof.
Speaking of buggies et al,
AM (isn it?) had a stall offering the Hummer to the IA.
As one Indian 'Panzer Oberst' commented on that-- I can probably get half a regiment of T-72s for the price of one hummer.

Boss, it indeed was the sliding roof that made me change my mind.

<strike out>Balls</strike out>Spherical playthings. Forget the IA - I want one of these to drive around here.
A typical TCS system includes a rocket with an electronic package and thrust vector control (for teering the rocket during flight), and a ground control unit. In a TCS mode of operation, the rocket is launched in a free flight mode and the ground system automatically directs the steering-kit of the rocket to continuously correct the trajectory of the rocket to the required path-to-target.
Regarding the INSAS carbine, I too find it odd that the magazine looks very much like a 9mm.
We've apparently ordered a number of M4s for the Para SF units.
INSAS carbine was supposed to be 5.56mm but excessive recoil and noise were a problem - not unusual in attempting to fire a rifle bullet from a submachine gun size barrel.
The belt-fed 5.56mm LMG - does anyone have a photo of it ?
If it's the Negev, then it's a very interesting and altogether surprising development as the latest news that I had was that the Marcos had ordered some and the Para SF units had prefered to use the Russian PKM in the LMG role.
Don't laugh but the Para SF may well be ordering some of those Dune buggies. In fact, they have.
Not sure if they are the ones displayed.
The Para SF intends to fit 20mm cannon and ATGMs. to the vehicles.

Sanjay, its high time the IA got itself a publicity unit to take proper pics of such stuff.
Nitin, publicity is one of the weakest aspects of our forces.
They also tend to be very patronizing. Ask a serious question, they want to charge you with spying !
But seriously, the para SF units are getting a lot of new gear.
Was there any news of production of any black INSAS or the new Excalibur ? The orangey-tan furniture on the current production model looks positively agricultural ( no offence, I come from a Kisan family myself ) compared to the others.
That buggy was mentioned in Ashok Mehta in his little article.
In desert environs, such a vehicle is a must for the SF. I remember HH Brig Bhawani Singhji had bought Land Rovers (complete with long-range fuel tanks) for 10 Para before the 71 war (from his own pocket). They put them to great use during Chachro and associated campaigns.
Anyone who has Speedvision (the racing channel) can see races like the Baja 500 and the Tecate 250, to see the state-of-the-art in offroad desert vehicles. I wish the desert SF unit(s) would get something similar: capable of reaching Karachi (and back), carring 4 men each with some heavy weaponry, etc.

Are you sure this was during the War or was it after it? I have seen several photographs from the Chachro and Umarkot raids and I could see only the Mahindra Jeeps and Jongas.

OFB can supply any colour. It is for the customer to order. Having worked with bureaucracies, the one thing that is common to all is their apathy towards procurement guidelines. It's too much paperwork and hassle. Hence the orange.
N,
First production batch is in building. Six complete production tanks so far. Due for delivery begining March. BEML in Bangalore is tooling up for Chassis production. Technical info has been transferred, etc. No faujis present, so I couldn't get an Army perspective yet. All tanks to be delivered by end 2005.
