OT for this thread.
If you look at the google earth pictures of Chahbahar port that India is building, it far exceeds in scope and scale anything in this region.
That big land reclamation area, which is going to be a container terminal is as big as the width of the city of chahbahar !!!
There's even a ship lift and oil terminal being constructed there.

Very disappointing. India should have protested any route through PoK that does not have India's permission. The CPIC (Cheen-Puki-Infra-Corridor) through GB and PoK should NOT be acceptable to India and we should have issued a public statement against it.

This stupidity of strong Pakistan is good for India should be qualified stating that a strong, pluralistic and secular Pukistan is good for India. As such Pukistan is an ideological state (that is anti-India to the core) and a strong Pukistan is more harmful to India.

All that is fine, Gagan. But, for over a decade we are talking. We must complete projects and put them to use. I know that there was sanction on Iran etc. But, even then, we are slow. Take for instance our highway through Myanmar, Thailand, the Trilateral Highway.

The core angst with MQM today is its warning that it might just facilitate RAW in Karachi even if the warning was sought to be portrayed as a joke. MQM is no fringe party and if it were to really start backing RAW play full tilt Bakis would lose control of this vital economic center and port city in a jiffy.

Bakistan can be blockaded from the sea or from inside Karachi.

what got Altaf's goat was that the 'Karachi operation' was supposed to be 'across the board' since all parties had militant wings including PPP, ANP, MQM, TTP etc.

But TSPA and their baby Sindh Rangers in their infinite wisdom decide to give wide media publicity to only ops against MQM. All of the ops against MQM were shown live on media and flashed across Pakistan as a big achievement by Punjabi Army.

And then after Sabeen's murder by TSPA/ISI target killers, the army prodded a Zardari Lackey, the SSP of Malir Rao Anwar to conduct a press conference to implicate MQM further. This SSP took a document that was 6 years old and not his original work, but the document was the work of previous Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza. And the 2 supposedly RAW backed MQM operatives were detained in February but their detention was recorded as an arrest only 2 days ago. And supposedly it was them who killed Sabeen Mahmud on RAW's orders.

Altaf called this bluff by the Pakjabis who were trying to get too cute.

PIA pilot compromises on air safety of travellers
KARACHI: A very senior and highly influential pilot of Pakistan International Airlines caused a serious air safety hazard when he operated a Trans-Atlantic long haul flight without mandatory rest, putting the lives of over 350 passengers to unnecessary risk in April, it emerged on Sunday.
They said Islamabad-based pilot Qasim Hayat was scheduled to fly from the capital on April 5 to Lahore, where he had to stay and take rest for around 39 hours before flying to Toronto on April 7. But the PIA pilot preferred to delay his travel to Lahore until April 6 night. While he reached Lahore in the late hours of April 6 via PK 655, he did not take complete rest and embarked upon the journey to Canada early next morning (April 7). By doing this, the senior pilot exposed the life of over 350 Toronto-bound passengers to serious and unnecessary danger, the sources said.
Attempts to approach Mr Hayat could not succeed as he left for the US to spend his vacation soon after his return from Canada to Pakistan on April 10.
:rotfl:

Comments: Seems like this gentlemen is using the Paki national airline as his own personal taxi ! :)

I am sure that the Altaf video beseeching R&AW is an old one.

Altaf's latest.MQM condemns RAW activities in Pakistan - Dawn
KARACHI: In what appears to be an attempt to appease the establishment, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has condemned the Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and other foreign powers for what it called trying to destabilise Pakistan by creating a law and order situation here.

The MQM, which recently came under a barrage of criticism after its chief Altaf Hussain made some controversial remarks, which he later clarified he had passed sarcastically, said that it was struggling for the national security and despite all injustices the loyalty of the party to Pakistan remained unblemished.

According to an MQM press release issued on Sunday, a meeting of the coordination committee was held simultaneously in Karachi and London to discuss the overall situation in the country.

The meeting showed concerns on the infiltration of foreign countries in various parts of the country for spreading unrest.

It said that foreign powers, particularly RAW, were spreading anarchy in Balochistan, Sindh, tribal areas and other parts of the country, which was highly condemnable.

The meeting also condemned the Indian army for violating the Line of Control.

Recently a police officer, Rao Anwar, claimed to have arrested two MQM workers allegedly trained by RAW and demanded that the MQM be banned for being “a terrorist party”. However, the police officer was removed from his post for making political comments.

The statement said the participants of the meeting also prayed for the success of Operation Zarb-i-Azb. :rotfl:

The meeting condemned the resolution passed by the Balochistan Assembly against Mr Hussain and the “disgusting statements” being given by various political and religious parties after his recent speech.

“Those who are making unwarranted criticism of Mr Hussain’s speech have themselves used disparaging remarks about the army,” it added.

It was decided at the meeting that the MQM would continue to pursue the goal of a liberal, enlightened, democratic and progressive Pakistan according to the ideals of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal despite all odds.

“Hopefully a day will come when the obsolete feudal system will be eliminated and Pakistan would join the ranks of the developed countries of the world,” said the statement.

this has been one "consistent demand" of the MQM ; the feudal system, among other ills, has been the mainstay of the Paki power base- largely based in Punjab and Sindh - Wadera system ( "popular families" in this class include Bhutto / Zardari families, Farooq Leghari ex president) ; the MQM leadership frequently cite the example of India, when Nehru abolished the Zamindari system,

Falijee, if one looks at Pakistan from the time it was carved out (or even the AIML policies before Partition), it is very obvious that Pakistan has not made any changes or course-corrections since the time these policies were either conceived or handed-over to them by their British Masters.

For example, the sense of entitlement among the officers (or even men) of the armed forces, or the stranglehold of the landed gentry, or the immutability of the two-nation theory, or the theory of martial races, or the claim on India due to Mughal rule etc.

The British had assiduously cultivated the ashrafs, men from reputed and landed Muslim families in the Punjab, Sind, Balochistan, Bihar and United Provinces in the then united India, who later on assumed key positions in Pakistan, mostly to protect their land ownership, and filled important administrative positions. The British found it easy to rule through the landlords and the Muslim League as well as Bhutto’s PPP which took over power in Pakistan adopted the same technique and thus perpetuated the rule of the landlords. Even today, a mere 0.5% of the population owns 37% of the land in a still feudal Pakistani society, where land-holding determines power.

Even in c. 1937, when the G.B.Pant-led Congress Government in the United Provinces passed the Tenancy Reforms Bill to curb the powers of the landlords, the elite Muslim Leaguers, like Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan opposed it and called it ‘destructive of Muslim culture’. The feudal setup consists of zamindars (big landowners) known variously as Sardars(in Balochistan), Pirs, Jagirdars (in the Punjab), vaderas (in the interior Sind) and khawaneen (in the NWFP areas) and narcotic barons and is constrained by fierce notions of biraderi and ghairat (honour). Frequently, Pakistani politicians invoke ‘honour and dignity’ to justify their actions.

The three land reforms bills of 1959, 1972 and 1977 as also the Tenancy Act, 2002, could not be effectively implemented due to the powerful stranglehold of the feudal landlords. The 1959 Land Reform bill allowed a holding of 500 acres per person (not a family) of irrigated land and 1000 acres of unirrigated land. It also gave exemptions to landowners when their productivity was high or if they owned orchards. It is an irony that all these land reform bills were promulgated during military rule. It is also an irony that while the Zamindari system was abolished in East Pakistan as early as c. 1950, West Pakistan could not take similar measures. Two recent developments bode ill for any more land reforms. Firstly, the Supreme Court (in c. 2000?) announced that such land reforms were against Islamic Shariah. Secondly, land ceilings have been abolished for corporate entities engaged in agriculture thereby paving a way for large landholders an avenue to escape further land reforms.

Apart from lack of land reforms, Pakistan also collects meager agricultural tax. The contribution of agriculture tax is a mere 0.1% of total tax collected in a country where tax base is neither deep nor wide. The Pakistani military recognizing that ‘land means power’ in Pakistan has been using to reward its officer cadres and thus have created a neo feudal class. Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa’s book, “Military Inc: Inside Pakistan’s Military Economy” vividly portrays this aspect. Those Army Generals and other officer - the chief among them being Gen. ( r ) Moinuddin Haider, a former Corps Commander of Lahore and then Governor of Sind and Interior Minister of Pakistan under Musharraf’s military rule, who had been given large tracts of lands and who is generally referred to as the ‘lumbardar’ of Army generals - in the Cholistan desert audaciously demanded the Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal be diverted to bring waters to these lands.

Asim Umar, the Indian-born head of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, has claimed responsibility for a string of attacks that killed several secular writers and intellectuals in Bangladesh and Pakistan, including Avijit Roy who was hacked to death on a Dhaka street in February.

“Like the companions of the Prophet who defended him with their lives,” Umar said in a statement that was released online over the weekend, “the mujahideen of al-Qaeda have despatched to hell many who blasphemed against God, and insulted the Prophet.”

In addition to Roy, Umar named slain Bangladeshi intellectual Ahmad Rajib Haidar and Rajshahi University scholar AKM Shaiful Islam as victims of al-Qaeda hit squads. His statement also claimed the killing of Karachi University Islamic Studies scholar Shakeel Auj, assassinated last year while on his way to a meeting with Iranian diplomats. Auj had been condemned by Islamist clerics in Karachi for is purportedly blasphemous views.

The statement also mentioned an Urdu blogger Aneeka Naz as a victim. Naz, an academic, was reported killed in a 2012 car traffic accident, in which her husband was injured. Naz is not known to have held contentious political views.

“From Waziristan to Charlie Hebdo, this war is one,” Umar said, “whether it is waged upon us with drones or with Charlie Hebdo’s pen, with the International Monetary Fund or World Bank’s policies, or with the satanic conspiracy of Kerry-Lugar bill, which sought to humiliate the believers, or whether it is waged with the hate-filled words of Narendra Modi, which call for Muslims to be burned live.”

NEW DELHI: For the first time, terror organization Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) has directly mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a video message released by its publicity wing As-Sahab.

AQIS chief Maulana Asim Umar, who is said to be an Indian, in a video titled 'From France to Bangladesh: The Dust Will Never Settle Down', has referred to Narendra Modi in relation to what he claims to be is a war against Muslims.

Umar talked about attack on Muslims "through World Bank and IMF policies, drone attacks, Charlie Hebdo's writings, UN charter, official sermons by muftis and Narendra Modi’s utterances which call for Muslims to be burnt alive."

Plus, China has a surplus of cement, steel and capital to build all this, Miller notes. And many of its neighbors are in serious need of infrastructure investment.
Comment: Leave aside the strategic aspect of the CPEC, the major motive is use up the surplus capital capacity! As mentioned before, the Chinese are going to bring in their own labour and materials.

Let’s not utter the name of the banned uncle. But we can utter the name of our ‘atomic hero’, :D who is the uncle of the nation. Even if we do not take the name of a ‘banned people’, Pakistan will still be called a multi-racial state. Now a days we also hear about a “Deep Sate”.

Zinda Bhaag is the story of three young men in Lahore: Chitta, Khaldi and Tambi. Chitta plans to migrate to Italy under a fake passport. Khaldi dreams of becoming pukka in the United Kingdom. Tambi has recently been deported from the Ukraine. The West it seems is the promised land, the paradise the bright future, awaiting them.

Tony Irish, executive chairman of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, wrote in an email to the Associated Press on Monday that “an international tour to Pakistan remains an unacceptable risk”

Irish said FICA’s security consultants advise that teams should not travel because “the security environment cannot be controlled or influenced to an extent that the risk becomes acceptable”.

Whatever was the motive for the 'China Dream', the serious downturn in the Chinese economy has come very handy for these projects. China's three pillars of growth have been manufacturing, infrastructure building and real estate. China deliberately built super capacities in cement and steel. All three have taken a serious hit. The 'Road and Belt' projects would be a nice way to absorb the excess production that is no longer required in China.

They also say he spent time in the 90s living in Isloo with his dad and stepmom, attending a prestigious private school, so he sounds like another Daood Gilani/David Headley type. Looks like Soofi found out the hard way that Texans are happy to exercise their second amendment rights alongside their first amendment rights :D.

Seriously though, reports say that that the two were wearing body armor and carrying assault rifles. The organizers of the event had anticipated that there might be trouble and there was a SWAT team inside. However, it wasn't the SWAT team, but rather a single off-duty traffic policeman that cleaned both their clocks with his Glock.

One of the Texas attackers was a Pakistani: Report - Tribune.com.pk
Soofi’s apparent Facebook profile stated that he had attended the International School in Islamabad in 1998 before attending university in Utah. It was not clear whether he still held Pakistani citizenship.
If Terrorism is a body, then Pakistan is its soul, so expect a Paki connection whenever there is a terrorism attack in the world.

I suggest Pakistan to open up a "Terrorism Museum" at Abbottabad's cantonment area.
