Envoys of 37 countries in PoK ??
Re: Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan - Apr 22
the oiseaules in the EU and US nations do not accept India's sovereignty over PoK, as can be seen in their world maps. In a way, India did that all by itself when it handed back territory post 72 war -- pox on IG and PN Haksar.is it common practise for foreign diplomats to traverse disputed territory

They had somebody on the inside to leak the flight path and time that the VIP group was flying by?

If it was a SAM strike by the talibs then wouldn't the chopper disintegrate leading to death of all passengers aboard? Reports suggest out of 17, 7 including the pilots dead and 10 injured. What are the chances of 60% passengers surviving a missile strike? Maybe a RPG or mere accident?

It would have been extremely embarrassing to Nawaz Sharif if one of the other helis too carrying other foreign diplomutts fell off leaving only his heli standing.

Re: Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan - Apr 22
A shoulder launched SAM strike will mostly critically disable and not disintegrate a chopper. Disintegration happens mostly due to explosive decompression of the pressurized cabin. Dont think the Mi-17 has pressurized cabins. Also from the photos of the crash site, it seems there is no visible, identifiable wreckage, the impact must have been quite forceful (fallen from atleast few hundred mts altitude)dhruvM wrote:N00b pooch

TTP claims responsibility
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for shooting down the helicopter in Gilgit.
TTP spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani claimed a special task force had prepared a plan to target Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, however, the premier escaped the attempt as he was in a different helicopter.
In a statement, Khorasani said “TTP will soon show the Shoulder Launch Missile (SAM SYSTEM) used in the attack”.

Engine failure caused the crash, says foreign secretary
The trip was of diplomatic nature and was planned to highlight the development activities in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, said Chaudhry. There was an event to inaugurate Ski chairlift by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in which Islamabad based diplomats along with their wives were also invited.
CheersThe prime minister was also to visit the event, but after hearing the news of crash he was flown back to Islamabad. “PM did want to go, but his visit would have required many security formulations which were currently utilised in the relief and rescue operation, hence he had to cancel his plan,” said Chaudhry.

What Caused The Pakistan Helicopter Crash?
Many Explanations Have Already Been Offered...
(All ambos dars sitting on one side is the most credible - but officially following have been offered.. by officials in Pak who like to speak first and investigate later...)
(From various MS media - cut and paste with minor edit..)
>>>
Pakistan’s army has said that a helicopter crash in northern Pakistan Friday has killed seven people, including the ambassadors of Norway and the Philippines. The military helicopter was en route to the disputed region of Kashmir, where the passengers planned to attend the opening of a tourism project, when it went down in the mountainous territory of Gilgit-Baltistan. The dead also included the wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian envoys to Pakistan and two Pakistan Army pilots, per BBC..
>>>
It is clear what caused the crash - within hours of the news.
We know..
Pakistani army spokesperson Major-General Asim Bajwa only stated that the survivors had “varying degrees of injuries.” They were transported to the Combined Military Hospital at Jutial (18 miles from the crash site) for treatment.
>>>
The helicopter reportedly struck a military school building as it went down, but BBC noted it was not yet clear whether any people were injured on the ground. The helicopter’s passengers were due to attend the opening of a tourism project, which was to be presided over by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sharif was on his way to Gilgit when the crash occurred, but cancelled his visit in its wake, according to Al Jazeera. Radio Pakistan reports that the PM expressed “deep grief and sorrow” over the lives lost.
Sharif’s rapid change of schedule could be seen not only as a gesture of respect, but one of fear — of a terrorist threat implicit in the downed aircraft, for example.
But Bajwa ruled out the possibility of terrorism, or subversive activity.
But Pakistani Taliban issued a statement claiming responsibility for the incident, alleging they used an anti-aircraft missile to bring the helicopter down. Taliban spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said the crash was part of a plan to assassinate Sharif.
Bajwa said the crash was caused by a technical fault (and investigation into the cause would be carried out, according to procedure)
>>. The army’s on Twitter, stated that “as per initial info,” the aircraft “developed tech fault while landing.”
( Of course.. army also said ...At the junction of the Himalayas, the Karakorum, and the Hindu Kush (all major mountain ranges), the area boasts over 100 peaks more than 23,000 feet high - any one more than capable of destroying an MI-17 being flown even by - specially by - Pak's best)
--per Local Irtiza Hussain “We heard a very horrible sound and we ran away, fearing the soldiers would start asking questions of us.”
Other local told told Al Jazeera that the aircraft indeed "had seemed to suffer a technical issue."
Per Express Tribune "strong winds" is the culprit ... “I saw the chopper going down. The wind was quite strong when this happened,” a senior government official told .
But then again Tribune also says "The Naltar valley area had been cleared by security agents in the days leading up to the crash" .. so it may be the Paki security agents rather than the wind..
Last but not the list, there is still one unidentified Pakistani crew member who was also among the deceased he did not see any SAM - proving once for all that it was a technical failure...

Brooklyn cabbie gets life in U.S. prison over Pakistan 'honor killings'
A Brooklyn cab driver was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for arranging the "honor killings" of two family members of a man who helped his daughter flee from Pakistan to the United States to escape an arranged marriage.
Mohammad Ajmal Choudhry, 62, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William Kuntz in Brooklyn, New York, following his conviction last year on charges including conspiring to commit murder in a foreign country.
Kuntz said Choudhry had orchestrated a "calculated, cold-blooded" scheme after his daughter, with the help of the man she wanted to be with, fled her husband in Pakistan, who she was forced to marry so he could obtain a U.S. visa.
.....
Prosecutors said that for more than three years, Choudhry's daughter, Amina Ajmal, was held against her will by relatives in Pakistan at her father's direction, and forced into the arranged marriage.
With the help of a Pakistani man prosecutors said she wanted a relationship with and the U.S. State Department, Ajmal eventually escaped and returned to the United States in January 2013, prosecutors said.
Ajmal did not tell her father her whereabouts, but spoke with him in recorded phone calls, prosecutors said.
In those calls, prosecutors said Choudhry threatened to orchestrate the murder of the man, Shujat Abbas, and his family if Ajmal did not return immediately to the family home in Brooklyn.
"Now let me make it clear to you," he was recorded saying in one call. "If you don't come back, I will kill each and every one of them."
Four days later, on Feb. 25, 2013, Abbas's father, Asghar Abbas, and his sister, Madiha Abbas, were shot dead in Pakistan.
Prosecutors said eyewitnesses observed Choudhry's brother and other relatives standing over the victims, holding guns and desecrating the bodies.

As far as I know, ambassadors were pretty aweful cars.
Hopefully they will graduate to using secretaries and envoys now. As I understand,
http://www.cars.com/gmc/envoy/
the envoy can be armor plated. Ssrves them right for using 50s indian designated cars. When will the world stop treating bakistan as a trash dump for used planes, trucks, vehicles. It used to be that only mangoes were proscribed in fixed wing planes. Now, what?
Instead of $$6B on used crappy hardware, a shipment of envoys would go a long distance improving the international understanding of bakistan. Within the rawalpindi garrison boundaries, of course. Its dangerous outside.
edit -- eject from a mi17, or get your 72 raisins. tough choice:

The Canadian high commissioner to Pakistan was meant to travel in a military helicopter carrying foreign diplomats and family that crashed in the country’s mountainous north on Friday.
Instead, a last-minute helicopter change put Heather Cruden and three other female ambassadors from Lebanon, Austria and France on a “VIP helicopter” courtesy of Pakistan’s prime minister, who was also in the region at the time to launch two projects, according to the Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs.

When you see an artikle written about how one must "give onlee", "big brother magnanimous onlee", one must reconcile that with the chankian earth-e-shaster 10% neeti genetikally inherent in the sdre writer.
How must the sdre writer be performing his own eart-e-shaster cowering into small dark place while eating rice?
1 Ij his rice biryani? Or
2 is hij rice polk flied lice? Or
3 ij he wanting kentucky fried?
Thoje are the only options when it is a "give, give, give onlee" lecture.

New York cab driver jailed over Pakistan murders
A New York cab driver was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for ordering a double murder in Pakistan after his daughter fled a loveless, arranged marriage.
Mohammad Choudhry, 62, will spend the rest of his life behind bars for conspiring in two deaths carried out nearly 8,000 miles (13,000 kilometers) away from his Brooklyn home in 2013, US prosecutors said.
Is desecrating bodies of dead an Islamic ritual? I have seen a pattern where this is repeated most of times.Choudhry and his relatives in Pakistan subjected the Abbas family, who lived in Gujrat, Punjab province, to repeated threats.
On January 26, 2013 Choudhry's brother and other relatives fired gunshots repeatedly at the Abbas parents' car.
Choudhry then telephoned Abbas's father, threatening to kill his entire family unless his daughter returned home.
“If our daughter will not come back to the home, we will kill all five of you. Otherwise, we will find your son and we'll kill him,” US prosecutors quoted him as saying. “This time we shoot on your car. It was threatening, but next time we will shoot in the chest of all five of you.“
Just days after Choudhry made similar threats to his daughter, Abbas's father and 21-year-old sister were shot dead.
Witnesses said Choudhry's brother and other relatives had stood over the victims, holding guns and desecrating the bodies.

It would appear islamagood was empty except for the Mericans. $$6B, junkets in PoK, what else has been going on here? The $$6B now vs $$46B never might have something to do with the jostling too.The Indonesian ambassador was gravely injured, with burns over 75% of his body, officials said. The Dutch envoy, sustained face and leg burns but wasn’t in critical condition. The Malaysian envoy suffered shoulder and face burns, while the Polish ambassador sustained a spine injury and his spouse suffered head injuries.
“Apart from the Indonesian ambassador, the rest are going to be fine,” said Amb. Said Hindam, the Egyptian ambassador to Pakistan, who was on the trip and visited the injured in hospital.
Getting out of Afg is proving to be a big female dog. There is some serious tiff with the indian govt. by the look of it too. Chahbahar isnt unrelated to the bigger picture.

Government officials say that the military helicopter went down due to a “technical fault”. This has been a worrying trend for the past decade in Pakistan’s ageing fleet of Russian-made MI-17 helicopters. Three years ago, five people were killed when one of the helicopters crashed in Skardu — not far from the location of Friday’s crash — due to “unknown reasons.”
In 2009, 41 people were killed aboard an MI-17 due to what was also said to be “a technical fault”. The same reason was given for the deaths of four people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir in 2007, and for 13 people who suffered the same fate in the northwestern tribal areas in 2004.

Nothing could be a more blatant admission than on official spokesperson than this. Space will be denied only to the "misguided terrorists". Normal terrorists would be given full training & support.Amber G. wrote:Just for the record.

Normally there are less than 30 seats (this is why they claimed 26 first and then revised the total - see below ), but Pakis are more than normal and can do ... 2x people which they say would be ok except .. that total load (weight) can some times cause a problem..
In any case the Dawn story quotes:
That of course with these official comments... (NO.. this is not made up, the ACTUAL DAWN REPORT)‘The copter might have come down because of overloading, ’
This, of course was rubbished by the army.. and the military spokesman said..drumroll...'We shot down the helicopter,' a spokesman for Taliban insurgents based in the nearby Darra Adam Khel region said in a telephone call to AFP.
Whole story--- cut and pasted from archives... (This is 2009)helicopter had crashed due to a 'technical fault.'
...Taliban militants frequently make false claims,' he added.
http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/daw ... orakzai-05PESHAWAR: Taliban militants Saturday claimed responsibility for a military helicopter crash that killed 41 people in the rugged tribal area in the country's north.
'We shot down the helicopter,' a spokesman for Taliban insurgents based in the nearby Darra Adam Khel region said in a telephone call to AFP.
The spokesman identifying himself as Muhammad said it was in retaliation for the Pakistani military operation in South Waziristan, a Taliban and Al-Qaeda stronghold.
A military spokesman rejected the claim, reiterating Saturday that the helicopter had crashed due to a 'technical fault.'
'Taliban militants frequently make false claims,' he added.
Forty-one security personnel on board a military transport helicopter were killed when it crashed in Chapri Ferozkhel area on the border of Khyber and Orakzai tribal regions on Friday afternoon, credible sources said.
According to officials, the helicopter crashed because of some technical fault.
Those killed included 19 personnel of the paramilitary Frontier Crops, 18 regulars from the army and four crew members, the sources said. However, officials said that 26 personnel had been killed.
According to the sources, most of the personnel on board were proceeding on leave.
The army spokesman was not available for comment, but a government official said the Russian-made M-17 transport helicopter had crashed in a mountainous area, some 20km from Peshawar, on the border between Khyber and Orakzai because of some technical fault.
‘All those on board the helicopter have been killed,’ the official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to release information to the media.
He said that paramilitary forces had cordoned off the area and efforts were being made to retrieve the bodies. ‘The area is remote and inaccessible.’
The sources said that pilots of the ill-fated helicopter had requested for emergency landing before the crash. ‘The copter might have come down because of overloading,’ they said.
The government official said the actual cause of the crash would be determined after a detailed examination of the wreckage. ‘It is a lengthy exercise.’
Witnesses said the helicopter was flying at a low altitude in an area of high mountains. It was going to Peshawar from Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency.
The official said: ‘The weather was bad and the copter was flying low. It could either be because of the bad weather or excess weight. But nothing can be said with certainty until we retrieve the wreckage.’
He said that militants had 12.7mm machine-guns which could easily hit helicopters flying at low altitude. ‘Combat and transport helicopters usually fly high to avoid fire from the ground.’
He said that paramilitary forces and helicopters had been sent to the area to retrieve the bodies and the wreckage.
The official said that helicopters had to fire some warning shots to keep the locals away from the crash site. ‘The area is infested with militants, so all precautionary measures are being taken to secure the area.’
