Its probably a temporary truce. Once the bills are passed by end 2015 it could be open season. Meanwhile, ABPAnanda reporting intense fighting going on in Birbhum between TMC and BJP. In Bengal you capture villages if you want to win elections. A strategy pioneered and perfected by left previously.

Two Indian cities at high risk of terror strike - Kounteya Sinha, ToI
Two Indian cities - Imphal (ranked 32) and Srinagar (ranked 49) have been named to be at "extreme risk" of a terrorist attack, mainly aiming to cause mass casualty and destroy public transport networks.

According to an analysis of the terror risk to 1,300 commercial hubs and urban centres around the world, populations and businesses in 113 Indian cities have been identified to be at some risk - high, medium or low risk of facing terrorist attacks.

The next major Indian city after these two that faces a terrorist threat is Chennai even though the risk quotient has been marked as medium risk.

Bangalore is the fourth most prone city even though it is placed at 204th in the global threat list followed by Pune and Hyderabad at 206th and 207th respectively

Cities like Nagpur (ranked 2010) and Kolkata (2012) have been found to face a higher risk of a mass attack by terrorists that the usually expected targets like Delhi (447) and Mumbai (298).

Around 64 cities around the world are at "extreme" risk, with most in the Middle East and Asia - and three in Europe.

Speaking to TOI, Arvind Ramakrishnan, head of Maplecroft India said "When it comes to Imphal and Srinagar, terrorist attacks aren't on commercial targets as much as against the security forces. However n most of the other metropolitan cities, the targets are both to cause mass casualty and cripple its commercial hubs. Public transport networks in India are also prime targets".

Ramakrishnan added "The Mumbai attack in 2008 was the turning point for India. But lack of intelligence sharing among states is a big worry. Law and order is still a state subject in India and political rivalries across states leads to state intelligence agencies not sharing actionable data. Virtually all police forces in India lack modern equipment and adequate manpower to counter a terrorist threat. This brings down the overall morale of the force. India does not face threats from cross border terror organisations but also from home grown ones like the Indian Mujahideen" {I am not sure if Ramakrishnan wanted to say "India does not only face threats from cross border terror organisations but also from. . . " I hope that was the case and wither he missed it or it was missed in transcription.}

Ingham said "just because a city in India hasn't seen a terrorist attack in a while does not mean it isn't potentially facing one. The rankings are based on the frequency and intensity of attacks.

ISIS terrorists planned to attack India, says NIA - ToI
For the first time an Indian agency has said on record that the Islamic State (ISIS) has designs on India and that its four recruits from Mumbai's suburb Kalyan planned to carry out attacks in the country as well. It has also hinted that the self-appointed Caliphate may have developed links with anti-India terror outfits.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) which filed a chargesheet against ISIS recruit Kalyan youth Areeb Majeed on Wednesday has said in the documents filed with the court that the terrorist outfit with help from some other terror organisations planned to recruit from India and among NRIs to carry out attacks not just in Iraq and Syria but also in India and other countries.

The chargesheet, while detailing how the four youths travelled to Iraq on the pretext of pilgrimage and then disappeared to join ISIS in Syria, says: "After joining ISIL (ISIS), all four persons underwent the basic training for handling of weapons and fire arms and were actively involved in terrorist acts in Iraq and Syria. The input received further indicated that ISIL, in conspiracy with certain other terrorist organisations, was keen not only on resident Indian citizens joining the outfit but was also trying to recruit non-resident Indians settled abroad for participating in the so-called holy Jihad not only in Iraq and Syria but also in India and other countries."

Until now both the government, including home minister Rajnath Singh, and intelligence agencies played down the threat from ISIS saying India was not on its immediate target and that there was no traction for its ideology in the country. Hardnosed intelligence analysts felt that the confidence was rooted more in political correctness. NIA chargesheet appears to validate their worst fears.

The chargesheet goes on to mention the threat twice. Naming the four—Majeed, Fahad Sheikh, Aman Tandel and Shaheem Tanki—the chargesheet says, "(The four) entered into a criminal conspiracy between January 2014 to November 2014 with the common objective and intention to join Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), a banned International Terrorist Organization and participate in terrorist acts not only in Iraq and Syria but also in India amongst other countries."

Detailing how a full-fledged network existed to help willing Muslim youths reach Syria to join ISIS, the chargesheet details various names, including that of two women Tahira Bhatt and Abu Fatima, who helped the youths at various stages to reach Syria. "In this connection (to join ISIS), Majeed tried to contact people from different countries like Australia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, America, who all guided him to reach Turkey and contact them thereafter. Prominent amongst them were Abu Rami from Iraq and Abu Falluja from Turkey," the chargesheet says.

Other prominent names that the chargesheet mentions as part of the network that helps recruits reach Syria are that of Afghan national Rahman Dawlaty and one Kuwati national, Abdulla Hadi Abdul Rehman Alenezi, who gave $1000 to the four youths in Iraq to help them reach Syria.

One Ali, sympathiser of ISIL, ferried them to Mosul. It was Rahman Dawlaty, Tahirah Bhatt and Abu Fatima that the youths contacted for arranging "Tazkiya" (recommendation for joining ISIL).

After ISIL captured Iraq-Syria border, the youths were taken by Abu Muhammed Iraqi, the then Aameer of Iraq and Syria to Hudood Centre (registration centre of ISIL where persons joining from outside Syria have to be registered) in Raqqah City of Syria. It was from here that the youths began their terror activities.

The PAki army went after the real ISIS that was operating in Af-Pak a few months ago, so this sudden resurgence of ISIS in pakistan (they took credit for the shia bus bombing last week) seems to say that this is not the same IS that is operating in Iraq and elsewhere. This would not be the first time the pakis renamed their terrorist groups to enable extraction of more baksheesh and to work around any bans or financial blocks placed on the previous names of their terrorist groups.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/worl ... 153924.cms
On the eve of the visit to the United States of Pakistan's most powerful man, army chief Raheel Sharif, the Pakistani military has fashioned a new narrative to sell to Washington in order to return to its good books and extract continued flow of military supplies and civilian aid. It is the imminent threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) sweeping into the nuclear-armed country that is already under siege from al-Qaida, although the alternative narrative suggests it is complicit in sheltering al-Qaida and an assortment of extremist-terrorist organizations to further its strategic and policy objectives.
This pakistani ISIS seems to be a creation of the paki ISI to replace "al qaeda" -- this allows the americans to boast that "al qaeda" has been crushed and pretending that the new global threat is ISIS. This would suit the Paki Army just fine. Unless there is strong evidence of the IS fighters in Iraq having contacts and sharing intel and such with the paki IS, it seems far too convenient that the PAkistani IS has the same motivations and goals as the LeT and JuD., which are now pretending to be non-violent political groups these days.

Ratlam: 3 Muslim youths held for assault on Hindu activist - Rajesh Kataria, who was then convener of Hindu Chetna Manch, was shot by motorbike-borne youths in Salakhedi on July 29, 2013.
Nearly two years after a murderous assault on a Ratlam-based Hindu activist, the police have arrested three Muslim youths, including Rizwan Sherani, who was already in jail in connection with the murder of Bajrang Dal leader Kapil Rathod, who was shot dead in September 2014.

Rizwan was a member of Ahl al-Suffah, a Ratlam-based Islamic proselytising and charity group that became active after Muzaffarnagar riots. A breakaway faction of this group was recently busted in the communally sensitive town for its members’ alleged affiliation to an Islamic State-linked Jihad cell planning strikes in India.

Rizwan, who allegedly fired the shots while riding pillion, Sameer, alias Raja Barik Hanif Khan, 25, and Shahid Farid Khan, 32, were remanded in a day’s police custody by a court Thursday.

Sameer, a resident of Kazipura, and Shahid, a resident of Sheranipura, had already been arrested. Their three-day remand ended on Thursday and they were remanded in further custody for a day.

As folks like Tarek Fateh and Kavitha krishnan start whining about allowing Rohingyas in India - see this news item from NL as an example:

Why The Indian Media Should Care About The Rohingya Crisis - A looming humanitarian crisis in Southeast Asia deserves our attention.

the reality of the situation is that large portions of these boat people are simply Bangladeshis seeking employment, since:
Boatpeople ‘labourers’ not Rohingya: Indonesia
Indonesia has told Australia that most of the 7000 boat people stranded at sea in the region are not Rohingya asylum-seekers but illegal labourers from Bangladesh.

In a foreign ministers’ meeting in Seoul yesterday, Indonesian officials told Foreign Minister Julie Bishop that only 30 per cent to 40 per cent of those stranded on boats and in camps in the region were Rohingya refugees.

“They (Indonesia) believe there are about 7000 people at sea (and) they think about 30-40 per cent are Rohingya, the rest are Bangladeshi; and they are not, in Indonesia’s words, asylum-seekers, they are not refugees, they are illegal labourers, they’ve been promised or are seeking jobs in Malaysia,” Ms Bishop told The Weekend Australian.
So, why are people like Kavitha and Tarek so supportive of settling additional Rohingyas in India...

Must look at the significant risk to India: lets look at the arrest of Khalid from RSO and what he was trained to do...

Arrested Rohingya trained militants in Myanmar
Few people would have guessed that Khalid Mohammed, arrested by the NIA from Hyderabad last Tuesday in connection with the Burdwan blast, had links to an international coalition of terrorist groups.

Having been in India since November 2013, Khalid managed to get an Aadhaar card and was eligible to vote since he also managed to get an election identity card. A Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar, Khalid spent considerable time in Myanmar training batches of militants along with members of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), before slipping into India last year.

His primary interrogation report, accessed by Hindustan Times, reveals a plethora of details on the spread of the terrorist networks that spans over four countries. Interrogation reports are not admissible in court as evidence and only serve as an aid to the investigation.

The recovered thumb drive contains manuals in Urdu on manufacturing explosives, on using fire arms and also martial arts. This was part of an elaborate 15-day training programme for militants in camps on the Myanmar border.

“Khalid has told us that he helped train 40 militants in eight batches before moving to Bangladesh and subsequently India,” a senior central intelligence official told HT.

Khalid has also mentioned receiving large funds from Rohingyas based out of Karachi, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Khalid has told his interrogators that he was first recruited by a Bangladeshi national identified as Abdul Rehman. He introduced Khalid to two LeT operatives, Ali and Haider, who had travelled to Dhaka from Pakistan. The three of them travelled to Myanmar and set up the training camps.

After slipping into India in November last year Khalid travelled extensively to meet with other Rohingya refugees in Delhi, Lucknow and Jammu before setting up a base in Hyderabad.
we also get samples of this from other sources such as Khalid’s arrest sparks off debate on Rohingyas in India where we see
Khalid was arrested by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) from Hyderabad on Monday. It is suspected that he is a member of the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) and ran terror camps in the bordering areas of Myanmar and Bangladesh. Khalid has apparently admitted that he underwent training with the Tehreek-e-Azadi Arakan. The trainers were apparently from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

"It is now being suspected that links between the RSO and the Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) go back a long way. JMB's explosive expert Jahidul Islam alias Boma Mizan, who escaped from the Rapid Action Battalion's clutches in Bangladesh and is suspected to be holed up in India, had claimed that he received arms training at an RSO camp close to the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. In return, the JMB taught RSO operatives the use of explosives and how to make Improvised Explosive Devices. The Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B) was also closely linked with the RSO. It is said that HuJI-B militants also fought alongside the Rohingyas in Myanmar. Till now, India has adopted a humanitarian approach to the influx of Rohingyas but if links with organizations like the JMB are established, this will become extremely difficult," a source in the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

RSO has been operating along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border since 1980. Given its militant and fundamentalist stand, the outfit received support from organizations like the Jamaat-e-Islami, both in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar's Hizb-e-Islami in Afghanistan, the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Jammu & Kashmir and the Angkatan Belia Islam sa-Malaysia (ABIM). The ABIM is an Islamic youth organization in Malaysia that has insisted on allowing Rohingyas to settle in that country. The Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh is also known to have raised funds for the RSO.
But, why this need to add more Rohingyas, when we apparently already have as many as 25,000 Rohingyas in India already (see the above link for):
an official camp for Rohingyas, under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is located in Jammu, members of the community are spread across India, including some parts of Kolkata. There are nearly 20-25,000 Rohingyas living in India, most of them in Jammu.

Nearly a 1,000 Rohingyas are in jail in West Bengal after being apprehended while trying to cross over from Bangladesh. ... Every year, hundreds of Rohingyas are rescued by Indian authorities in the Andaman Sea. A few hundred of them continue to live at a distress camp in Brookshabad, Port Blair, waiting to be repatriated.

In India, Rohingyas, after their arrest are supposed to be sent to Tihar Jail over which the UNHCR has jurisdiction. After due processing, the Rohingyas are sent to the camp in Jammu.
there have been other warning signs too, as threats to the NCR from Rohingyas, as stated below: http://www.hindustantimes.com/newdelhi/isi-linked-rohingyas-gather-near-capital/article1-1247647.aspx
An intelligence officer told HT that the Rohingya refugees have been congregating at Nuh - the district where 42-year-old alleged Laskhar-e-Taiba operative Abdul Subhan was arrested from recently - more or less unnoticed by Delhi’s Police’s special cell, the Capital’s elite anti-terror unit.

“We noticed their entry to the area in batches over the period of a year and began putting a local intelligence infrastructure in place,” said the intelligence official. “The information gathered so far is alarming to say the least. Many of the settlers have participated in military training organised for them by the ISI at the Cox’s Bazar region of Bangladesh’s Maricher district some time ago,” he added.

The officer then went on to state that given the community’s established connections with the ISI, intelligence sources believed that many of the refugees might be used to conduct terror operations in the country.

“Intelligence input suggests that their founder-leaders Anawar and Dr Younus are expected to arrive to take stock of preparations this year,” the official added.

“We have reasons to believe that Pakistan wants to use the Rohingyas as bomb-planters in Indian cities as they can be made to work on relatively lesser pay and also do not attract much attention,” the official said.

The intelligence officer also expressed surprise as to how the build-up has managed to escape the eyes of the special cell that claims to have access to what it called the Mewat Module that had plans to attack New Delhi last year.
Unfortunately, some habitually cultural aspects of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar cannot be ignored, as can be seen below...

98 Hindu refugees evacuated from Bengali Muslim camp
Myanmar government authority in Sittwe evacuated ninety eight Hindu refugees from Bengali Muslim dominated refugee camps to downtown Sittwe on Wednesday.

98 people from 18 Hindu families were moved from their current shelter of Thae Chaung and Thak Kay Pron camps to Sittwe city due to increased threats by Bengali Muslim extremists after many reported rapes and attempted rapes and tortures committed by the Bengali Muslims who are majority in the camp.

An officer from Sittwe police station No (1) who do not wish to disclose his identity told RMG that 6 Hindu women including four teenage girls and two house wives were raped by Bengali Muslims during their stay in Thae Chaung camp. "We had to live in a cow butchery. They tried to feed us beef and theaten us with death if we don't convert to Islam. Our kids had to stay inside for 24 hours to avoid beating and other kind of harassment by the Bengali Muslims. The most horrible thing is that our women are being raped one after another and those Bengali Muslim rapists became more daring when the authority did not take any actions. We have to keep guards for days and nights for the safety of our people there. Those periods are really bad in our life.", a Hindu man shared about his experience in Thae Chaung camp.

Myanmar police in front of a Hindu temple which was burned down by Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants

It is reported that Bengali Muslims destroyed many Hindu temples during the riot. According to reliable sources, more than 40 Hindus were beheaded and murdered by the Bengali Muslim terrorists in Sittwe, Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships. However, those Hindu victims are not included in the government's official death tolls of the communal riot.

NGOs come under scanner in another anti-US/UK place
Non-governmental organizations working in Russia awoke Sunday to a new reality -- that they operate now under a law that allows the government to prosecute them on the grounds they are 'undesirable.' And those who work for such organizations could be sentenced to as much as six years in prison. The new measure, signed into law Saturday by President Vladimir Putin, has provoked an international outcry. The U.S. State Department said it was "deeply troubled." Amnesty International said the law threatened "fundamental freedoms." Human Rights Watch called it a "piece of repressive legislation."

Interesting discussion on the Rabindrasangeet link to anti-jihadism in BD.

Lets look at the historical trajectory of this society:

(1) This society was even more apparently obsessed with "Bengali language" and "Rabindrasangeet" in the 40's and 50's. There were more Hindus in that society than now, more communists, and even a full fledged language movement that raged primarily in Dhaka and road-rail linked nearby towns. But this section was a small proportion of the overall small minority of university/undergrad educated Bengali, both Hindu and Muslim. In spite of this, the Partition violence raged against the Hindus in full force.

(2) throughout 50's 60's pogroms against Hindus happened in E.Pak, and no not traceable to only Punjabi or Bihari muslims - but also to "native" Bengali speaking Muslims. This at a time of legacy of the Bengali-language movement and Rabindrasangeet culture.

(3) Sk Mujib in his posthumously published autobiography, writes very favourably of a certain Mujibur Rehman (namesake) - the chief organizer of ML and later AL from Noakhali. This guy was the chief protector of of Sarwar the butcher and rapist jihadi of Noakhali - Sk Mujib, actively supported the language movement, but never apologizes or even mentions the Noakhali episode, even though he describes first meeting Noakhali Mujibur at a date very close to the Noakhali massacre - so he surely knew about the whole episode. If this is the standard of the more "Rabindrasangeet" inclined political force, surely we get a measure of where and how exactly Rabindrasangeet stands where jihad is concerned.

(4) re: current supposed trends of anti-jihad being linked to RS: I will just ask people to track Imran, the leader of the most widely publicized faction in the youth movement, Gana-jagaran-mancha, and his statements over the evolution of the movement. Imran was forced to openly reiterate his devotion to Islam and that he was never anti-Islam (he doesnt discuss jihad as a target of his movement) repeatedly in his public speeches over the last 1-1.5 years.

(5) I track BD news channels and their political chat shows. Apart from virulent anti-India and often veiled cussing of Hindus and justifying or being silent on the growing jihadification of Bengali youth - just this Saturday, I watched a panel discussion on channel i's popular trityo-matra : the panelists all Rabindra-"boddhas", were unanimous that Rabindrsaengeet has remained an elite preserves, and even there the influence of Rabindra-thought/culture has been deliberately neglected and was diminishing day by day (proving the real link/roots of Rabindrasangeet inlfuence being Hindu culture and with diminishing Hindus the influence is going down).

(6) the fact is that vast swathes of the country is populated by illiterate or hardly literate Muslims who have been well covered by mullah networks under successive gov patronage and protection, and even urban elite youth has increasingly been turning up in jihadi groups that are carrying out assassinations or other jihadi activities. Bloggers are being bumped off.

(7) many areas of BD, like Saatkhira, Raajshahi in general, parts of Mymesingh, Pabna, eastern Khulna, Barishaal, and of course Chattagram, even Kusthia, have growing jihadi influence. This influence is spreadinga mong urban educated youth too.

Rabindrasangeet never amounted to any significant political impact where core jihadi foundations of BD society were concerned. When the opportunity arises, all of that Rabindrsangeet will be chucked down the drain to carry out rape/massacre/torture/expulsion of hindus.

At best its becoming a good tool of taqya to extract advantages from India and Hindu Bengalis.

Lets face the fact: it was a tactical blunder to allow a separate sovereign muslim nation to come up. Now even if in the future Pak disnitegrates or we are able to digest it, the mullahs will have second safe haven in BD. We will have to carry out our de-pestification programme twice instead of sorting out BD society at one go with Pak.

Whereever muslims are a majority and mullah networks allowed to form and maintain institutions, jihadi core of Islam will always come to the fore and dominate that society, eventually its politics. No exception (yes even in Indonesia). What BD shows in trace sof its pre-Islamic culture was also seen historically in other nations where Islam reached earlier - but unless militarily crushed and expelled or expunged through matching counter-terror (as in Spain), all such societies eventually erased these pre-Islamic cultural elements. Coercion is always more successful than verbal persuasion.

I think jihad in BD should be welcome for us. It removes the illusion of hope that amounts to deliberate taqya by sections of muslim leadership, and provied the right excuses for us to correct the strategic blunder of 71. Muslim majority sovereign nations cannot be allowed to exist in the neighbourhood of India. We should have let that society face Paki onslaught. Hindus would have been forced out anyway, as they have constantly been pushed out even after formation fo BD. Some of the liberals would have taken shelter in India, and we could have use dthem for propaganda value. But it would have clearly pushed the soicety to jihad and an excuse by us to destroy the very foundations of that society. Moreover the great side-effect of jihad is that it destroys any pre-existing "nationalism" in that area or society.

We should have threatened formation of BD but allowed the Pakis to crush the liberals before crushing the eastern Pak field army, scaled down our demand for independent BD in return for permanent giving up of Chattagram or a continous strip of land connecting NE to the sea, and extracted a portion of POK just above Pindi. Ask for demilitarization of East Pak and local-self-defence forces guaranteed now by the two prong presence of IN on both sides of E.Pak.

Then wait for more favourable times when jihad will finally allow us to crush Pak as a whole and absorb both area and people within non-Muslim majority rule to prevent any regeneration of Islamist ambitions. Even now greater jihadification of BD is great strategic news not bad news. it still gives an opportunity to partially correct the blunder of 71.

Mean while in Kerala. From what I hear the state government plans to appeal on the verdict. But from what I could interpret of the ruling, a person can hold Maoist views but cannot be picked up by the police unless he indulges in any criminal activity. Don't know if the same logic holds for potential ISIS recruits, Jehadi sympathisers etc.
Being Maoist not a crime, can't detain for merely being one: Kerala HC
CPI hails Kerala HC ruling on holding of Maoist views
Congress endorses HC ruling that being Maoist is not a crime

No discussion on how terrorists are targeting telecom operators in J&K?
Out of charge: In North Kashmir, terrorists wage a mysterious war against telecom operators
Sopore: On Tuesday evening, unknown gunmen barged into the house of Ghulam Hassan Dar, in Duru village of Sopore, and killed him. Dar's only fault was that he had rented out a patch of land to a telecom company for setting up a mobile tower. The company gave him yearly rent and also employed another man for the tower's maintenance.
This was not the first such incident in Sopore. Early on Monday morning, three unknown gunmen drove in a number-less car to Sopore's Shah Fasil Market, pulled over outside a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) franchise office and fired, injuring three people.
While the gunman managed to flee from the scene in broad daylight, one of the injured, Mohammad Rafiq Dar, 24, sole breadwinner of a family of eight, died on way to a hospital in capital Srinagar.
Another among the injured is fighting for his life at a hospital.
Few days before the Monday's attack on the BSNL franchisee, suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a mobile tower. No one was injured and the police failed to get any clue about the attackers.
The audacious attacks have followed after a series of threats by 'Lashkari Islam,' a little known militant organisation, against the cellular companies operating in the restive Sopore town, some 50 kilometres from Srinagar.
The issue has not only been made mysterious by the inability of the police to trace those who have been issuing threats to mobile companies or the grenade hurler or the murderer of Rafiq and Dar, it has also spread fear and panic which has resulted in shutting of all the cellular companies in north Kashmir.

It looks like these terrorists are trying to destroy the anonymous informant network that aids security agencies from nailing the paki terrorists and their supporters in the state. The PDP govt. is part of the problem too, going by their recent behaviour.

I am sure that Kashmiri population will not be happy about this.

Couple of months back when I was near Pahalgam during vacations, this particular village ahead of Pahalgam (being developed for snow skiing) got mobile connection through activation of BSNL tower. The residents were definitely happy that the first time after independence that there was a signal in their phones(btw almost all had a mobile). Previously they used to walk 3-4 km towards Pahalgam to catch a tower. It definitely adds to the attraction value for the tourists who now a days can't do without network, internet & whatsapp. So more tourists means more loot by the locals.

Funny side that the locals couldn't stop cribbing about the bribe they had to pay to BSNL guys to get the tower online(10-15K).

Since police is controlled by Judicary in Court premises, I somehow think this has judicial approval than police approval.

Looks like some communist/left-wing extremist group called Revolutionary Student Youth Front is stirring up trouble in IIT Chennai. This group's facebook page seems to have been taken down. The only guys defending this commie group are some partisan pro-congress fools who are pretending this is about "diversity of views" on a college campus. There is no reason why IITM should tolerate such "study groups" that want to politicize the student body -- that is extremely poisonous to the college atmosphere, as anyone who has studied in a college with communist student body will tell you.

Don't buy it for a minute that this was some harmless "Ambedkar-Periyar study group" when it has the backing of communist groups like RSYF. This smells like the means to a larger end, possibly related to caste quotas in IITM, as if IITs are not effed up enough already without these commie fools starting their rabble rousing.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/t ... 256712.ece

Now rediff makes up some more of its own facts and pretends that the group was banned because of critisizing the PM. Yellow journalism at its best from rediff. The letters tweeted do not say anything about the PM but about "brahmanical oppression" and some other nonsense.

:D. This is rare. During my college days the KSU (Congress student union) used to have their dhothis in hand when running away from the charging SFI (commie) "revolutionary" thugs. How things have changed so much so that commies get supported by the Congress folks.

Came back to say. There is also a message going out on the internet that this "Revolutionary blah..blah" organisation consists mainly of Dalit Christian students, with financial backing from outside. The actual posters put up by these "revolutionaries" are there in the GD Forum. Time for the TN Police Q Branch to call the "revolutionaries" for a small round of technical discussions?

Why IIT-M is calling itself as IIT-Madras instead of IIT-Chennai? What slavish mentality it is to stick with British given name when all Indians have moved on to calling the city Chennai.

The big irony is the front entrance name board of the institution says IIT-Madras, Chennai! That is akin to Russians calling University of St. Petersburg as University of Leningrad, St. Petersburg. How can one expect the students out of an institution that persists with such slavish mentality to have original thinking and right instincts. The name Madras was changed to Chennai around 1996 and at that time there was a genuine concern amongst graduating students that foreign universities to which they were appling for Masters degree may not recognize the name Chennai. However after 19 years with everyone using the term Chennai, they are still adamantly persisting with a name given by British.

I have been to IIT Chennai to campus interview candidates and very few (including computer science students) have been able to impress me. The smart ones do not have the right attitude (behave like spoiled brats) and the not so smart ones demonstrate a servile attitude in the interview.

IIT-Powai (Mumbai) is lot better in that regards. Quality of students are much better.

Apparently Delhi Govt was importing off the air interceptors for surveillance purposes to allegedly fight corruption. Besides Times Now which is airing this story now none of the other media is carrying this story.

Not sure it has anything to do with mental slavery -- depends on what you are used to calling it most of your life. It used to be called IIT-M for a long time, and IIT-C is a relatively new name for it starting in the 90s. All the alums from before the name change just call it IITM out of habit.

good point Sachin ji! i think it is such an 'intellectualising' due to which repackaged jihadis like anjem choudhary and the likes are flourishing in UK. a few years down the line, and we could very well be seeing such a liberal ruling or atleast a call for it by our libtards.

there was a news some days back of some people getting killed in a small factory due to an explosion in i think Birbhum distt. itself. it was revealed that the factory belonged to a TMC neta. the workers employed by these party-ppl are mostly bangladeshis, who have little skill in such glorious works of bomb-making, etc., but get involved in it for money. the war is ongoing there, between neo-communists (TMC) and communists and the BJP.

Murugan, not that I like his politics (I don't), but I think you are misreading. This PP is actually claiming that all Tamils other than enlightened ones like him don't think of themselves as Indian. Also, doubt that individuals like him amount to an internal security threat for India :) -- he is just another political loudmouth who used to run an unsuccessful podcast on Tamil politics during the UPA days.

Did a bit of googling and figured out what an off-the air interceptor is. One unique and dangerous aspect is that these tools need not require any connection with the actual cell phone provider service. They just sniff the radio waves from the air. And these units can even be mounted on vehicles.

These units, if any states have it are only used by the state police or state specific police intelligence unit (Special Branch, or Anti-terrorist units etc.). For other minor forms of investigations police still approach the telecom provider for the CDR (Call Data Records). So why should Kejri go for this when he jolly well knows Dilli Polis is not under his control? His state specific vigilance unit also seems to be a very mild form of the ones in the other states. Vigilance units still go for trapping the bribe takers etc (when the bribe is being given), rather than watching the air-waves. In a very worst situation, Kejri & Co may also become a parallel spying agency in the capital city, with his masters certainly not being GoI.

It is also a bit surprising that Kejri can place order for such equipment bye-passing other central agencies.

Kejriwal smells very wrong if this has any truth to it -- such equipment can be brought off the internet though.

http://venturebeat.com/2010/07/31/hacke ... -for-1500/

a web search for "sniffing cellular networks" lists a bunch of articles that show how simple this is, and makes you wary of ever communicating important things over the cellphone. There are only a few brands of cell phones in India that are imprevious to such sniffing, and they are not cheap.

Kejriwal is clearly being adviced by a band of people willing to break the law and operate outside of it, with Kejriwal's blessing. What is even more amazing is that the likes of Indian Express and the rest of the Media in New Delhi sees nothing wrong with this, when just a few months ago they were creating a racket about Amit Shah providing authorization for surveillance of some citizen.

In any case, Kejriwal has broken many many laws if any of these accusations are true.

FIR against Assam artist for offensive painting of Krishna

Image
A little-known artist in Assam has invited the wrath of some Hindu organisations which have lodged complaints with the police accusing him of depicting lord Krishna in an offensive manner in one of his paintings exhibited at the State Art Gallery here last week.

“Yes, we have registered a case on the basis of an FIR lodged by the Hindu Jagaran Mancha on Friday in which the organisation has complained that the artist, one Akram Hussain, had depicted Krishna in an offensive manner,” Guwahati Police DCP Amitabh Sinha said.

The Hindu Jagaran Mancha has alleged that Hussain’s painting portrayed Krishna in an objectionable way . His another painting of Shiva was also allegedly distasteful.

“The artist has, however, immediately removed the painting and has apologised,” DCP Sinha said. The police were now looking for Hussain, who reportedly hails from Goalpara. The state cultural directorate has instituted an inquiry to find out how such a painting was permitted in the State Art Gallery.
Now compare this behaviour of Hindu "militants" against the "peaceful" muslim community as has been displayed all over the country whenever their beliefs have been challenged or depicted in a manner not acceptable to them.

Busted ISIS module in Ratlam was targeting RSS, BJP leaders
The first ISIS module busted by the security agencies in Ratlam last month had plans to target RSS and the BJP leaders and police officers. In an IB-led operation backed by sustained investigation and follow up of leads, the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested Imran Khan, Waseem, Rizwan and Anwar Qureshi, all residents of Ratlam, who were radicalised over the internet during the last one year by one Yousuf-al-Hindi.

"This group was being persuaded to carry out terrorist strikes in India by targeting Police Officers, BJP/RSS leaders etc. outside Madhya Pradesh. Yousuf was guiding this group through cyber chat, "the IB report said.

When Yousuf started interacting with this group, he was based in Afghanistan-Pakistan border but recently shifted to Syria. While the correct identity of Yousuf is not yet fully established, he is suspected to be either Sultan Armar or Shafi Armar (both brothers and residents of Bhatkal in Karnataka) who were active members of Indian Mujahideen and had escaped to Karachi in 2009-10.

"On instructions from Yousuf, the group had acquired two pistols and was also being guided on how to assemble xIEDs from locally available explosives," the Intelligence Bureau report said.

Imran Khan, the local leader of the group, had traveled to Dubai on five occasions during 2003-08 and once to Saudi Arabia in 2014. While the arrests of Imran, Waseem and Rizwan were made mid-April onwards, Anwar was nabbed on May 2.

While individual Muslim youths were getting attracted from certain States to the Islamist agenda of ISIS, this is the first time that an organized group was being tutored by the international terror group to carry out terror strikes within the country.
M.P. ATS is awesome and one of the most successful squad in the country, over the years they have cracked the nuts of SIMI and other Islamists in the state.

Of course there were the intel guys but over the years I have across many news articles both in national and local papers about MP ATS busting some module here and there in MP and they did crush SIMI in that state with their top leadership getting arrested one by one.

This from Israel - I had not known that Hezbollah had tried to stage an attack in India.
http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newslet ... p?id=12763
The arrest several days ago of a Hezbollah agent planning to carry out a terrorist attack against Israeli targets in Cyprus was facilitated by precise Western intelligence efforts, but it once again exposed the Shiite organization's terrorist infrastructure in the global arena.

This was not the first time that Hezbollah has operated, or tried to operate, in this way. For example, in recent years, the organization has tried to carry out attacks in Azerbaijan (twice), in Thailand (twice), in India, in Cyprus, in Nigeria, in Bulgaria (the deadly 2012 Burgas bus bombing) and in Peru.

"Mystery man behind Delhi's drug supply eludes police"
http://www.business-standard.com/articl ... 834_1.html
Ali is a recurring moniker in the nefarious world of drug trade in the subcontinent and beyond, but even three years after his name first surfaced in 2012, investigating agencies admit he remains a "mystery" and continues to be "out of reach".

Knowledgeable sources in the Delhi Police said that Ali sells cocaine and heroin in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and Mumbai, as also in states like Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. Ali's trans-national syndicate is also spread across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Kuwait, among others.

"Continued investigations resulted in more arrests of drug peddlers from Ali's network. We also got a better understanding of how high-quality drugs are being pushed into India by him through the Punjab border but his presence in India is still a mystery for us," a Delhi Police Special Cell officer admitted to IANS on condition of anonymity.
