Former Army chief General (Retd) VP Malik said, "In this particular operation I think three or four very significant points come out. First, very good co-ordination with intelligence authorities and the Army was able to get actionable intelligence from all sources that are available there. Second I would say very good decision making because of operations of this nature on the border are right across, slightly across the border would require political permission also so the whole decision making machinery has gone through very fast and very well and apparently there is no hesitation on the part of the political authority to give this permission. The third I would say as far as the operation is concerned the air force would be involved also, the helicopters would have been involved in this so that another good co-ordination point."

Manipur ambush- How the Indian army is flushing out the militants Posted by: Vicky Nanjappa Updated: Tuesday, June 9, 2015, 19:56 [IST]

New Delhi, June 9: The operation that the Indian army launched along the Myanmar border today was possibly one of the toughest in the region till date.

Over a 100 army personnel with aerial support combed the area extensively and inflicted severe damage on the militants who have been hiding along the Myanmar border. Indian army flushes out militants

It is an ongoing operation which will last a couple of weeks. It is important that the militants are forced to move out of Myanmar and seek shelter on the Indian side of the border so that they can be neutralized. A mechanism with the help of Myanmar is already in place to ensure that the militants are pushed into the Indian border, sources informed OneIndia.

Hunting the militants down: This is an ongoing operation and will last several weeks, officials informed. The militants who have been beaten down considerably today will look to hit back and the army would need to be on high alert at all times. The border is being monitored closely and none are allowed to cross over. Major General Randhir Singh says that the army has inputs that the militants would be planning more strikes and hence the operation to neutralize them had been launched. The militants were planning on using the same men who carried out the Manipur attack he also said. The operation by the army is being assisted by choppers which are picking up the movements of the militants. There are several militants who are trapped along the border with this offensive being launched. Most of them will try and stay on the Myanmar side, but efforts are being made to flush them out. There is a great deal of coordination too by the intelligence bureaus of both sides.

Local support to be hit: In addition to operations along the border, the Indian army is also looking for their local support in India. Militants enjoy a great deal of local support who have been intimating them about the movement of the security forces. There is a massive operation launched in various parts of North East to identify and tackle the local supporters. If these local supporters are nabbed then the militants would find it extremely difficult to operate in India. While they may take shelter in Myanmar they do rely heavily on the local network for intelligence. These militants have managed to rope in a good number of people especially along the border areas who provide them with local support. The local supporters are drawn towards these groups either for the lure of money or just because they support them ideologically. There are also a good number of persons who are forced to part with information out of fear.

Targeting the leaders: The Indian army for now will target the foot soldiers of these outfits. The leaders never come to the forefront and prefer to hide in the jungles or in other countries. The targeting of the leaders would come up in the next phase of the operation. While the neutralizing the foot soldiers would weaken these groups to a large extent, targeting the leaders would demoralize them further. In order to nab the top leadership, India is working out an operation which would involve intelligence sharing with various countries.

At least four rebel groups hit. Operational planning took 48 hours (according to Nitin Gokhale). Now on "India Hits Back" - Barkha Dutt. Sane, for a change.

BTW, more than 50 killed. That is the lower estimate. No source, not even chaiwalla :D

Crossed over in Nagaland at Nokkak area in Tuensang district; in Manipur at Chesul (?) in Ukhrul district.

I demand an international probe into this killing of innocent militants and violation of so-virgin-ity of another nation by the Indian Army. Also hope the probe is monitored by independent observers from bastion of Human rights countries like US of A, Saudi Arabia, PRC and Pakistan. :(

eagerly waiting for fact-finding article from Praveen Swami :)

i wonder where paresh barua is hiding with his rump remnant of ulfa these days?
with BD hanging top islamists right and left, i doubt the BD govt has any interest in keeping him there as a 'guest'
either he has embraced islam , wears a green striped lungi and has learned sylheti to blend in or has decamped for northern myanmar or yunnan to run some trade.

my guess is he lives in thailand, always popular with criminals on the run....they even give a residency permit if you run some business that employs a few local people.....

You can be sure the Manipuri boys in 21 Para SF were the first to volunteer for this mission.

I hereby nominate Priya Pillai and Samit Aich for fact finding mission into the Myanmar jungle to find out. While they are there, they can investigate whether sustainable forest practices are in place and whether 21 Para SF replanted all the trees that they destroyed during the strike against terrorists. And they can Skype their report to the br1sh1t parliamentarians too. Jolly good I say, what what.

^^ this is 2nd time after Op All Clear in bhutan against ulfa

so just as in Sandrup jhonkhar in bhutan, these terrorists were living with impunity just across the border for R&R, probably with road connectivity to nearest towns for food and materials. Op All Clear in bhutan was a rude shock when the bhutanese army screened the north to prevent their escape and army pounded them using artillery before moving in.

Singha saar,
that means the kongis deliberately keep these separatist groups alive for some purpose. That would also mean that kongis would want to similarly keep the bakis alive for some purpose.

Army Chief Gen. Suhag cancelled his visit to the UK, and a meeting with the queen, to stay back and ensure his moral support for the boys was unquestioned and he was seen to be present. Fantastic.

After decades of despondence, finally we have a government we can look up to, which allows the army to function in a way we can all be proud of.

Meanwhile, the entire panel is raping Ashutosh on Arnab's show over the fake degree of the law minister. Happy days.

correct me if I am wrong but wasn't that a co-ordinated op with RBA acting on bhutan side and IA on ours ?

so they could have directly taken off by air from some deep base like dimapur to give no local warning at all.

a couple of su30s from tezpur dropping some 40x250lb bombs on the whole area after we pulled back would have been icing on the cake.
not really. in NE and naxalite areas terrorists are almost always co-located or nearby human settlements.

we chose the perfect tool to execute this surgical strike, trained, motivated boots on the ground, who can differentiate b/w terrorists and civilians.

Rude shock indeed. They never expected any pressure from Bhutan, given that their king supported ULFA against India.

The Bhutanese weren't very happy about Operation All Clear either. But looking at the number of troops India deployed, they provided a bare minimum of support.

Maybe the time has come for Panchi (with helina) to be fast tracked to carry out preemptive strikes on day 2 day (week to week) basis.

The good thing is that even if the "presstitutes" are misguiding people based on their agenda the common man is intelligent enough to catch them & counter them on social media & other places.

Am sure Pakis are muttering"but for the grace of our nukes it could be us!"

Seriously terrorist attacks form every where will scale down as they know no sanctuary anywhere in the "tough neighborhood".

Couple this with Gilani's Indian passport truly ache din on anti-terrorist front.

We have been waiting for this for a long time . Perfect response from GOI and IA . A clear message needs to be sent to the people who are against us . This is the step in the right direction . Perfect response to the godfathers of the terrorist organisations . Earlier the useless UPA govt used to always talk and never act , now Namo has proved that we can talk tough and act tough also .

it is certainly new in the scale and in the active and timely cooperation of all arms of national security.

army has undertaken smaller across LoC/IB strikes against erring pak posts in the past but as I said those had a much narrower outlook. this is also one of the first uses of SF as a true strategic force.

Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh can be co-opted for such operations. What happens to camps in Yunnan ? Will a similar op be carried out in the western front at least in PoK. That will be the challenge for any GoI. Good going so far.
