The Myth of Islamic Science
It is widely believed and taught, including in India, that there was a Golden Age of Islamic learning  that made a major contribution to science and the arts. In India we are told that this ‘synthesis’ between Hindu and Muslim thought gave rise to a great ‘syncretic’ civilization that was suppressed and eventually destroyed by the British. However, this flies in the face of the fact that not a single name of a major scientist from the five-plus centuries of Islamic rule of India has come down to us. :) We have to go to pre-Islamic India to invoke names from the past— names like Aryabhata, Varahamihira and the like.
Also worth noting is the fact that the so-called ‘synthesis’ of learning took place before Islamic invasions engulfed both India and Persia in a Dark Age. The Sassanid emperor Kosrau I deserves much of the credit for work that is wrongly credited to Islamic rulers and scholars.
It is high time that such bogus propaganda as Islamic contribution to Science be quashed once and for all !

French jihadi network chief sentenced to 9 years in prison

The chief of a dismantled French radical network was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison for recruiting for jihad, plotting attacks against Jewish targets and praising terrorism. The relatively severe verdict comes as France is trying to prevent extremist violence by angry, marginalized Muslims.

A Paris court convicted Mohamed Achamlane, self-proclaimed "emir" of the Forsane Alizza (Knights of Pride) group, of terrorism charges. The French citizen was accused of plotting attacks, including targeting kosher markets and other Jewish businesses in Paris, abducting and torturing a Jewish judge in Lyon and threatening France, according to court documents.

Thirteen others, who like Achamlane were convicted of criminal association with a terrorist enterprise, were sentenced to up to six years in prison — except for the lone female defendant who got a suspended 12-month sentence.

...

During the trial, Achamlane, 37, said he created Forsane Alizza in 2010 to counter growing anti-Muslim feelings in France and claimed a desire to "channel the energy" of young Muslims and lead them away from violence.

Achamlane, 37, testified that he favored an "uninhibited" Islam but denied any violent intent or "terrorist inspiration."

...

Judge Dominique Piot said the court found Achamlane had intended to "perpetrate an act of a terrorist nature."

She noted a number of Internet chats, including one in which Achamlane praised Mohamed Merah, who killed three children and a rabbi at a Jewish school in Toulouse as well as three French paratroopers before being killed by police. According to court documents, he had called the attack "a blessing of Allah."

The court cited another chat in which he said: "We are going to inflict scars to France... We're going to slash up France." In another, he compared himself with Osama bin Laden, according to court documents.

Investigators pointed to a "declaration of war" against France in video and text posted on Forsane Alizza's Web site. It issued an ultimatum to France to withdraw its troops from Muslim territories and scrap a law banning face-covering veils worn by some Muslim women.

On the group's computer hard drives and memory sticks, investigators found a copy of "The Terrorist's Handbook" and a file labeled "targets" in which a dozen Jewish businesses were listed. Achamlane had also stored personal information on policemen, lawmakers and magistrates.

When adherents of Mohammaddenism routinely commit appalling acts of violence in the name of a religion that they vociferously tout as being “The Religion of Peace”, it should not come as a surprise that the “Fasting” of Ramadan aka Ramzan aka Ramazan morphs into “Feasting”:

In Ramadan, feasting may defy the very purpose of fasting

Another related story on how the Mohammadden practice of fasting during Ramadan which one would logically expect would result in a low level of food wastage given that less food would overall be eaten, actually ends up with more rather than less wastage of food because fasting during Ramadan has come to paradoxically mean feasting to majority of Mohammaddens:

Amount of waste in KL rises 25% during Ramadan

And yet another story on hospitalisation of Mohammaddens due to feasting during a month of religion mandated fasting:

Iftar gorging leaves hundreds in hospital

Well to be honest the Ramadan fast is one of the nice things about Islam. It predates Islam, in fact, and fasting in general can have many health benefits. Overeating defeats the point though.

Of course in true Muslim tradition they try to enforce the fasting on everyone to do it at the same time. Hindus on the other hand observe fasting according to their time and inclination.

9 per cent of British adults hold a positive view of the group, up from just 2 per cent a year ago, according to pollsters ICM.

The figure suggests that 1.5million of the country's 3million Muslims could be ISIS sympathisers.

Haras Rafiq of the Quilliam Foundation think-tank said he was "not surprised" by the findings.

He said: "There are undoubtedly a significant number of people in the UK who believe in the concept of the Islamic State.

In April it was revealed that nearly 700 Britons have gone to fight with jihadis in the Middle East.

However, more than half had already returned to Britain – with many being heavily monitored amid fears they could be planning terrorist attacks here.

In March a former British supermarket worker who travelled to Syria to join Islamic State complained about his "lonely" life in the caliphate.

Omar Hussain, 27, complained about peeling potatoes and bemoaned the lack of Jaffa Cakes in the war-torn country on his Twitter account.

Last year he told BBC2's Newsnight: "I hate the UK, the only reason why I would intend to return to the UK is when I want to come and plant a bomb somewhere."

Well, it is silly to associate fasting with Islam. One doesn't need to wait till Ramzan to fast, nor it is healthy to fast for entire month to prove one's religious obligation.

Fasting is healthy only when it is done in moderation suiting one's needs. Imposing fasting on entire nation is dictatorship, not spiritually.

Aatish Taseer asks in the New York Times:
Now, in 1947 it might still have been possible to view the demand for Pakistan as an isolated thing. Could it really be seen that way today, when all across the Muslim world societies that were once plural have forced out their non-Muslim populations, and when, in Pakistan itself, after the initial exodus of Sikhs and Hindus, the society has turned its fury on Christians, Shiites and Ahmadis?

Son of Boston Police Captain Arrested as Possible Terrorist

The estranged son of a respected Boston police captain was arrested July 4 by FBI agents as part of a counter-terrorism operation against alleged ISIS-inspired domestic terrorists, federal officials told ABC News today.

Alexander Ciccolo, 23, of Adams, Mass., was taken into custody on gun charges after buying two pistols and two rifles from an undercover FBI confidential informant, federal officials said. In a search of his apartment, officials reported they found it loaded with possible bomb-making equipment including a pressure cooker, a variety of chemicals, an alarm clock, along with “attack planning papers” and “jihad” paperwork. FBI agents said he used the name Abu Ali al-Amriki and neighbors said he was a recent convert to Islam.

A display of Mohammadden grievance manufacturing built on sense of entitlement in Mumbai.

DNA reports event which shows Mohammaddens seeking to bulldoze rules set by fellow Abrahamic Christist run institution of Catholic sub-sect, St. Agnes, an institution one may add who had generously opened their portals to Mohammaddens, by citing Mohammadden religious practice as grounds for truancy and when disciplined, raising innuendo of religious discrimination by slanting events to claim a deliberate attempt to get pious Mohammaddens to break religious mandated fasting during Ramadan / Ramazan / Ramzan.

Whatever next? Non-Mohammadden run schools forced to be Shariah complaint and prohibit eating by Non-Mohammaddens School Children under pretext of “school should have taken care of those children observing fast during ramzan” as is routinely done in Mohammadden majority countries ?.

You would not believe this. But this had happened last year in some parts of Kerala, in Muslim majority districts. Even Hindu students had to starve, as the school kitchen (operated as part of the mid-day meal scheme) shut down. This year, I have not heard any thing of a similar nature happening though.

the nigerian army must be the worst in the world if it cannot prevent these rampant attacks.

its better they be disbanded if they cannot protected their citizens. their army chief already got fired this week.

pay good salary and gather some 5000 merceneries from around the world , provide them what arms and transport they want and set them at the boko haram , the results will be much better.

GD Saar-> I dont think its that simple. Remember the length USA and Saudi stopped the Chinese from supplying Arms to the Nigerian Army through Pakistan. If the Nigerian Army had to resort to this Arms supply route they must be pretty choked off.

Please remember Nigerian Expanding population has been demanding a greater share of the countries Oil wealth. These Boko Haram are doing a good population control and making sure that Oil Field areas are not accessible tot he general population, they people are also distracted by this.

Somehow I dont think it is just incompetence, I am sure the Nigerian Population/ Army if allowed would have solved the Boko Haram, the need to keep African resources in control keeps Boko Harams and Indian Maoists in Business. it is a dirty world out there.

Saudi Arabia ‘fighting terror for world peace’ :rotfl:
http://www.arabnews.com/featured/news/777781

The king said: “The celebration by all Muslims of Eid Al-Fitr is a manifestation of cohesion and an element of unity among all the people of the Islamic nation.
“This unity propagates the compassion, empathy, love and peace as the noble values of Islam.”
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia was founded on the basis of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him).
He said the Kingdom has become a role model for unity, development and construction at individual and community levels.
“Saudi Arabia will remain an oasis of security as it fulfills its role in promoting the spirit of love, harmony and healing wounds.”
He said the Kingdom is committed to the principles of justice and peace. It is fighting terrorism so that the world enjoys security, stability and prosperity, said the king.
Since its unification, the Kingdom has been, and still is, concerned about the Islamic nations realizing its location in the heart of the Islamic world and serving the Two Holy Mosques, the king said.
King Salman said Saudi Arabia would continue to serve Islam by standing with Muslims around the globe and defending their legitimate issues, notably the Palestinian cause, at a time when Arab and Islamic nations are passing through a crucial phase.
Saudi Arabia upholds the noble principles of solidarity and unity in line with the Holy Qur’an's teachings, he said.
"Today our Arab and Islamic nation is in need to stick to its principles as it stands firm tin defeating evil organizations — the source of extremism and terrorism,” he added.
The king called for concerted efforts, guided by reason and wisdom, to promote unity.
The king stressed that Islam is a religion of love and peace, while highlighting the need for peaceful coexistence.

Saudi Arabia says arrests 431 Islamic State suspects, thwarts bombings

Saudi Arabia has arrested 431 people suspected of belonging to Islamic State cells and thwarted attacks on mosques, security forces and a diplomatic mission, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

The announcement came after a car bomb exploded at a checkpoint near the kingdom's highest security prison on Thursday, killing the driver and wounding two security officials in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

A string of deadly attacks carried out by followers of the ultra-hardline militant group based in Iraq and Syria has fuelled concerns about a growing threat of militancy in the world's top oil exporter.

UKistan.
I wonder how long before Ian Fleming books are outlawed in British municipal public libraries.
http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015/07 ... -one-wife/
Britain’s first female sharia law judge has issued a brazen warning that flies in the face of UK law, stating that the “government cannot ask Muslims not to have more than one wife”.

The news comes on the back of a report by the Times newspaper which claims that Britain is experiencing a “surge” in Sharia marriages, as young British Muslims adopt a more hardline religious stance than their parents.

Muslim Arbitration Tribunals, colloquially known as Sharia courts, have existed in the United Kingdom since 1996, when the Arbitration Act began to allow for different religious laws to be applied in cases such as divorce.

While the tribunals are supposed to work within UK law, recent reports suggest that young Muslims are not registering their marriages with the government under UK civil law, instead simply using nikha ceremonies, which can lead to men having a number of wives, and none of the legal responsibility towards them usually afforded to spouses under the 1949 Marriage Act.

Now, Amra Bone, who is the UK’s first female Sharia council judge, has said that “the government cannot — ask Muslims not to have more than one wife. People have a right to decide for themselves,” implying that British Muslims are free to operate outside UK law, as a rule unto themselves and the Sharia courts they feel are legitimate.

Muslim women who enter into marriage in Islamic ceremonies are often duped into thinking that the marriage under Islamic law is enough to protect them under UK law. As such, they receive none of the usual protections under UK law, such as assets being divided in cases of divorce.
The Times reports:

“As many as 100,000 couples are living in such marriages, which are not valid under UK law, experts said. Ministers have raised fears that women can be left without the right to a fair share of assets if the relationship ends, while others are forced to return to abusive “husbands”.”

A leading Islamic family lawyer warned that the increase in Sharia ceremonies among the 2.7 million-strong Muslim population in Britain was also behind a growth in “secret polygamy”.

“Probably a quarter of all couples I see involve polygamy issues,” Aina Khan told The Times. “There has been a huge rise in recent years because people can have a secret nikah [Islamic marriage] and no one will know about it.”

The growth in a parallel marriage system that bypassed the register office was being driven by Muslims aged below 30, who were becoming more religious, she said. Other factors include finding a way around the expectation of no sex before marriage and a fear of British family courts, which presume that assets should be split equally.

Australian jailed over 12-year-old daughter’s ‘marriage’
SYDNEY (APP) – An Australian man who consented to an Islamic “marriage” ceremony between his 12-year-old daughter and a man more than twice her age was Friday jailed for at least six years.

The 63-year-old father,[*] who cannot be named to protect the girl s identity, was found guilty in April of procuring a child under the age of 14 for unlawful sexual activity and encouraging the pair to have intercourse despite denying the charges.
[*] where is the mother of the child in this 'Islamic Contract'
The court had earlier heard that he wanted to save the girl from what he considered the sin of having sex outside marriage so when she reached puberty he decided [*]she should wed.
[*] where does he think he is living in - Pakistan or Saudi Arabia
The man was sentenced to eight years in prison but will be eligible for parole in November 2020.

His daughter is now in the care of authorities while the “husband” was jailed for seven-and-a-half years earlier this year for sexual abuse of a child.
This is what is going to happen, if measures, such as the above, are not taken, and the so -called demand for Sharia law is accepted !

But supposedly the separatist group laid down its arms in mid-2014.

Since 1976, when the FLNC was created, there have been roughly 10,500 bomb attacks in Corsica. Some 4,700 have been claimed by separatist groups.
In the brief time I have looked at this, it would appear that most of the bomb attacks were against property; unoccupied at the time of the bombing.

Comparing this with Islamic terrorism is spin.

Interestingly I learned about Maharastra govt. decision from Pakistan physicisti Hoodahoy who praised the decision and wish Pak learns from it.

Also after the Peshawar school attack in December, the Paki government said it "made it a priority to regulate madrassas", but when the information minister, Pervaiz Rashid, spoke out against them again recently , not a single member of government publicly supported him.

The article is in recent in Dawn (I can't get the link at present: will edit it as soon I google it. Meanwhile here is cut and paste form a copy I got.. edited later: Link in Dawn follows: http://www.dawn.com/news/1195133/math-in-our-madressahs)
EARLIER this month, Maharashtra’s BJP government voted to derecognise schools that teach religion without also teaching the primary subjects: mathematics, science, and English. Although a few Vedic schools are likely to be classified as ‘non-schools’, this step is primarily directed towards the state’s madressahs. To be eligible for state grants, they must now teach primary subjects in addition to traditional madressah subjects. By this decision any child, male or female, will officially be considered uneducated and out-of-school if enrolled in an institution that does not follow the state’s formal school syllabus in these subjects.

Is this good or bad? Predictably, Indian Muslims have protested this as anti-Muslim. Indeed, given the BJP’s Hindutva agenda, to be suspicious of underlying motives is reasonable. But let us set this aside and judge this new development at face value. It is a fact that children who do not know English, math, or science cannot compete in the job market or benefit from university-level education. They become the victim of conspiracy theories, pseudo-scientific nonsense, and various forms of illogic. Madressah graduates can become maulvis and qazis but not engineers, scientists, or doctors. India sees its madressahs as posing a serious education problem but not — at least officially — as a terrorism problem.

This view must be contrasted against Pakistan’s which now sees its madressahs entirely through a security lens. From the 1980s, these institutions had been used to provide expendable warriors for use in Afghanistan and then later in Kashmir. Although government-sponsored radicalisation tapered off after 9/11, putting the genie back in the bottle has proved difficult. Dozens, and perhaps hundreds, of madressahs now generate militancy mostly directed against the Pakistan Army and ordinary Pakistanis.

In an analysis of the profiles of suicide bombers who have struck in Punjab, the Punjab police said more than two-thirds had attended madressahs. There are many instances where accidental detonations inside madressah premises have killed would-be suicide attackers. Special Branch has identified dozens of madressahs that are linked to militant groups. Nevertheless a state of denial had persisted and the public was largely inclined towards seeing madressahs as peaceful religious institutions.

Unless horizons are broadened by including secular subjects, madressahs will remain a perennial danger.
This changed, at least for a while, after the Army Public School massacre on Dec 16, 2014. Over the protestations of the JUI and Jamaat-i-Islami, parliament approved the National Action Plan (NAP) a month later. This plan included insistence upon madressah reform as a means of controlling religious extremism. Hitherto unregistered madressahs were to be registered, hate speech and militant activities stopped, and funding sources uncovered. But NAP did not call for a revamping of the content taught in madressahs, and did not insist upon the inclusion of primary subjects. This is a serious omission.

Even if by some miracle NAP’s idea of madressah reform could be implemented, it would scarcely change the worldview that makes militancy attractive. Living in a primitive world where he is cut off from modern thought and almost all sources of authentic information, the madressah student can be made to believe anything. Unless horizons are broadened by including secular subjects, madressahs will remain a perennial danger to state and society. Paradoxically, the BJP’s approach to madressah reform is the more enlightened one!

Nevertheless, I have no illusions on how difficult a task this will be. On the request of the-then minister for education, Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, the five heads of Pakistan’s wafaqs (madressah boards) and their deputies had gathered around a conference table. The wafaqs are divided along political and sectarian lines. I was charged with enthusing them into teaching science and math in their institutions. After expressing due deference to these powerful men who control what is taught to millions of students, I then proceeded to give a 20-minute lecture on how Muslim scientific achievements in the Golden Age had established Islam as a great world civilisation.

The bearded gentlemen were unimpressed. If you want to teach science and engineering in your universities that is your business, they said, but leave matters of faith to us. The head of one wafaq said his branch of madressahs already taught science and math, and was not interested in further changes. When the minister offered large sums of money if they modified their curricula, they unanimously said they would welcome the money — but only if it was unconditional. The meeting was a failure.

So what is to be done? As it stands, although faced by NAP, madressah heads have flatly refused to discuss their funding sources or show accounts to the government, and there are probably more unregistered madressahs than registered ones. According to a report in this newspaper (July 16), law-enforcement officials are admitting helplessness in closing down even a single one of the 579 unregistered madressahs in Karachi because of their enormous street power, and the backing provided by religious political parties.

Curriculum reform may, therefore, appear even more difficult. But, in fact, unexploited opportunities are available to the authorities. In 1981 Gen Ziaul Haq had ordered that various levels of madressah asnad (certificates) be equivalenced with regular certificates and degrees (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD), and the University Grants Commission (now called HEC) was empowered to determine equivalency requirements. This gives the HEC leverage over quality: if madressahs are to teach English, math, and science, they must be tested by the same standards as in public schools. More importantly, HEC can insist on curriculum changes and require that at least some mind-broadening subjects be taught.

Difficult or not, ultimately there is no alternative but for the Pakistani state to bring madressah and mosque under its control. Mere policing will not do. Instead, the content of instruction must be shifted away from a paranoid and destructive vision of the world towards an inclusive and reasoned one. Pakistan must do so even in the face of street power, as well as disapproval by Arab countries that fund those brands of madressahs which serve their narrow ideological interests. Therefore reform must be done incrementally and carefully, and without provoking a massive backlash. But it has to be done.

Islamism & Islamophobia Abroad - News & Analysis (9-8-2014)

PM Targets Islamist Extremism In War On IS

Parents will be given the power to cancel their children's passports under new moves to stop young British Muslims travelling to join Islamic State terrorists, David Cameron has announced.

The measure is part of the Government's five-year plan as part of the war on Islamic State terrorists which will target Muslims who hold "intolerant ideas".

In a speech in Birmingham, Mr Cameron warned young British Muslims not to be "brainwashed" by "poisonous ideologies".

He warned young Muslims tempted to join IS that the terrorist organisation did not offer a life of glamour and said: "If you are a boy, they will brainwash you, strap bombs to your body and blow you up.

"If you are a girl, they will enslave and abuse you. That is the sick and brutal reality of Isil."

Mr Cameron said: "Today we're going to introduce a new scheme to enable parents to apply to get their child's passport cancelled, to prevent travel."

The move is a direct response to the number of teenagers being groomed by IS online and travelling to Syria to join the terrorists.

In February three schoolgirls from Bethnal Green academy in East London slipped out of their homes and travelled to Syria without the consent, or knowledge, of their families.

The Government will unveil a full counter extremism strategy in the autumn which will see new measures introduced to tackle the problem including banning orders for extremist groups and powers to close down buildings in which they operate.

Mr Cameron said there were people born in Britain who did not identify with the country because of "failures of integration".

He said: "So when groups like ISIL seek to rally our young people to their poisonous cause, it can offer them a sense of belonging that they can lack here at home, leaving them more susceptible to radicalism and even violence against other British people to whom they feel no real allegiance.

"This is what we face: a radical ideology that is not just subversive, but can seem exciting, one that has often sucked people in from non-violence to violence, that is overpowering moderate voices within the debate and which can gain traction because of issues of identity and failures of integration."

He described the battle as the "struggle of our generation".

Mr Cameron:

:: Urged internet giants to step up measures to protect against online radicalisation

:: Said there should not be "passive tolerance" in communities of female genital mutilation and honour-based violence

:: Promised to consult on giving victims of forced marriage lifetime anonymity

:: Criticised university leaders for allowing extremist preachers to give speeches on campuses branding it "misguided liberalism"

:: Attacked the National Union of Students for allying itself with an organisation which refered to Jihadi John as a "beautiful young man"

:: Said conspiracy theories on 9/11 and 7/7 should be ridiculed

Security services estimate some 700 British people have travelled out to fight with the IS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Mr Cameron continued: "When they say that these are wronged Muslims getting revenge on their Western wrongdoers, let's remind them: from Kosovo to Somalia, countries like Britain have stepped in to save Muslim people from massacres.

"It's groups like Isil, al Qaeda and Boko Haram that are the ones murdering Muslims."

The Government's policies are increasingly driven by the principle that extremism cannot be dealt with merely through military action and by combating those intent on carrying out terrorist acts.

This was echoed by Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, as he made a statement following the disclosure that British forces embedded with the US military had played a part in strikes in Syria.

In the Commons, he said: "There is a well-planned, integrated strategy to defeat Isil which includes action to cut off its funding, stopping the flow of foreign fighters, humanitarian assistance to both Iraq and Syria, strategic communications to tackle its poisonous ideology, and the military campaign."

Mr Fallon insisted the Government's strategy is "comprehensive and broader than simply military action" - but said the military element was "essential", as it has helped to "halt and hold Isil after its rapid advance across Iraq last summer".

Prior to Mr Cameron's comments, the former chief of the Armed Forces Lord Richards said that "sooner or later" the UK would have to put ground forces into Iraq and Syria.

Lord Richards told the Andrew Marr Show: "Tanks would have to roll and there's going to have to be boots on the ground."

In response, Mr Cameron said: "Of course if we are going to succeed in defeating Isil either in Iraq or Syria there will need to be boots on the ground. But they should be Iraqi boots, Syrian boots.

"What we need is an Iraq that is capable of governing its own country, and Iraqi government that is capable of governing its own country.

"The same goes in Syria. It is more complicated because the government of Syria, in the form of Bashar Assad, is the chief recruiting sergeant for ISIL because of his butchery of his own people."

Speaking on Monday, Home Secretary Theresa May said Britain would have to "do more" in the fight against IS in Iraq and Syria but said the Government would have to "take Parliament with us".

As part of Mr Cameron's attempt to ensure young Muslims feel they have a stake in British society, he is asking senior civil servant Louise Casey to carry out a review on how to boost opportunity and integration in Muslim as well as other black and ethnic minority communities.

Ms Casey said: "There is no bigger challenge facing us as a society than how we unite our communities so that everyone is engaged and nobody is left isolated or exposed to extremism.

"There will be no no-go areas, only a determination to do the best we can for everyone living in our country today."
