TSP is a shameless dog no doubt, but given BCCI's categorical statement the last time around, why would TSP keep pressing the issue? Unless of course, it doesn't take India's terror protestations seriously given past history, or it has a lot of friends in India. I would take the following report with some trepidation coming from DDM, but I will wait and watch lest there is some truth to the bolded part

http://www.hindustantimes.com/cricketne ... 86836.aspx

Thakur has previously said that the countries' cricket teams should not meet while relations between the neighbours remain fraught, saying cricket cannot be played with bullets.

"On one hand there is a rise in terrorist activity, on the other you can't expect to play a cricket series with Pakistan," Thakur said in July.

But last week Thakur softened his stance, telling a private television channel in Pakistan that a series was possible.

"If situation improves I cannot rule out cricket series in December," Thakur said. "I toured Pakistan in 2004 and was overwhelmed, and when Pakistan toured India the following year I distributed sweets on their captain's (Inzamam-ul-Haq) birthday."

There are several different things to separate out in the Carnegie/Stimson report, on a quick scan, I spotted these four:

1. Putting additional conditions for India to enter NSG.
2. Tying India's entry into NSG with that of Pakistan.
3. Conditions under which Pakistan can be admitted to NSG.
4. Actions Pakistan can take (e.g., sign but not ratify CTBT, make ratification conditional on India's acceptance of CTBT) to put pressure on India.

Per the report, (3.) the conditions for Pakistan to be admitted to NSG are rather onerous - i.e., Pakistan in its current ways will never agree to them. For those reasons (4.) is not likely to happen either. If Pakistan will not budge, then (2.) is unreasonable, and therefore (1.) is the most worrisome.

In any case, AFAIK, China is the blocker to India's entry into NSG, not the US, and the Chinese stand is that if India joins, Pakistan must also be made a member. That immediately runs into the Carnegie/Stimson (3.) above, which we can hope is shared by the current and future US administrations.

U.S. Embassy In Slum-Bad Violates Tree Cutting Ban ( And Gets Away With It :rotfl: )
By Tim Craig
Pakistan suspects U.S. illegally cut down trees in its capital
In Pakistan’s capital, government leaders and residents often boast of living in one of the world’s “greenest” terrorist infested  cities.
That success in maintaining Islamabad’s greenery can be attributed to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), a municipal body tasked with protecting the city’s beauty. Before anyone cuts down a tree in Islamabad, homeowners must first get approval from the CDA, which often denies the requests.[*]
[*] Bet the rules do not apply to the Jernails and the Coronels

But the CDA is now investigating  whether the U.S. Embassy violated one of the cardinal rules for living in Islamabad: Don’t touch the trees.
[*] The Pakistan Govt is humbly requested to publish the long list of 'active investigations' in its 70 years of existence, which list should definitely include the assassination of its first PM, a White Paper on the 1965 and 1971 wars and the to date unsolved murder of BB
A U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity[*] to discuss the matter, said the incident was limited to one truckload of trees. The official also stressed that U.S. Embassy personnel were not involved.
[*] Why the anonymity, hainji ; maybe, there are enough crazies in this " first-class greenest city "
But the ongoing CDA investigation is likely to prompt fresh questions about why the embassy needs to cut down 94 trees to expand what is already a heavily fortified, 38-acre compound.

For years, the planned expansion of the U.S. Embassy has been controversial in Islamabad.
In 2009, critics of the expansion spread rumors that the United States was preparing to quietly station American troops or CIA agents on the property. More recently, an ongoing case in Pakistan’s Supreme Court is seeking to block the embassy from acquiring an additional 18 acres for its expansion. It is unclear whether those plans are related to the tree-cutting controversy.
Tim Craig[*] is The Post’s bureau chief in Pakistan. He has also covered conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and within the District of Columbia government.
[*] Don't blame this Reporter in pursuing such inane topics, if he does not want to be another Carlotta Gall or Declan Walsh

US is not going to support India's entry into the NSG unless India buys US nuclear plants and gives them hafta for pushing through 123 -- this Stimson Center report is to create blocks for India's entry into the NSG by repeating China's conditions and then pretending that the Chinese were the ones standing in the way. This is expected since US did not get a cut of the nuclear business, which went to Russia and France Mostly....if Senator Obama had not poison-pilled the 123 deal in the US senate (adding clauses not in the French and Russian versions), US would have a better shot at getting the confidence of India's politicians...which not all that high anyway given US shenanigans in pakistan. NSG is just a cartel -- no reason why it cannot be broken if India is able to get its act together by some miracle (and produces lots of quality engineers and scientists to be able to pose a challenge to the cartel).

45pc of Pakistan-made medicines spurious’, says US report
KARACHI: A report carried by a US media outlet has made shocking disclosure that 45 percent medicines available to the consumers in Pakistan are not just spurious but contain ingredients that can pose serious threat to people’s health. The report raises the alarm by stating that some of these medicines contain hazardous ingredients including ground bricks, paint and even pesticides. What is highly alarming is the fact that this unholy game of distributing death continues with impunity, as it seems there is no regulatory authority in the country to ensure strict checks on quality standards of medicines the purpose of which should be to save lives and not the vice versa.
However, the legal head of Pakistan Pharma Manufacturing Association (PPMA), Zahid Saeed rejected the report, terming it contrary to the facts. He said there are 550 pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan whose combined production meets 90 percent requirement of the country. He, however, admitted that spurious medicines are produced in the country. In 2012, the government did adopt some measures to ensure quality standards of medicines being manufactured in the country. These measures included setting up of a drug regulatory authority besides drug testing laboratories at provincial level. But, their performance remains far from being satisfactory. The government’s lack of seriousness in this regard can be assessed from the fact that there are only 25 drug testing inspectors across the province of Sindh.

It is a rubbish article. Look at the last para:
Modi’s promised economic miracle has not yet arrived, and there are domestic troubles brewing. His hardline approach to Pakistan may be the only feather in his cap.
WTF is our Modi Achievements thread about then?

For nation's security, stability: Libya's 'official govt' bans entry of Pakistanis
BENGHAZI: Libya’s internationally recognised administration based in the east has banned Pakistanis, Yemenis, and Iranians from entering the divided country, a military statement said on Tuesday.
Libya is also a key conduit for Pakistani migrants heading to European shores. Recently, a number of migrants died while trying to cross the Mediterranean in small boats which departed from the coast of Libya.

P.O.K Residents Want To Be Part Of India :)
New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi's style of governance has raised alarm bells for Pakistan as the residents of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) are now openly advocating to be a part of India.
Chairman of the Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool, Moulana Syed Athar Hussain Dehlavi, who recently toured PoK said that people residing in the region want to be a part of India.

According to Dehlavi, the people of the region are distressed with growing extremism in Pakistan and want to lead a peaceful life. Given the opportunity, they would want a referendum so that they can vote to join back India.
Dehlavi says that people living in Balochistan and Karachi also want to have cordial relations with India.

He further said that the PoK residents are highly impressed with PM Modi's good governance style.

PoK these days is abuzz with pro-freedom slogans and this has made Pakistan nervous. Even the Pakistani media is widely reporting the issue.

Foreign Militants Easily Obtain Pakistan Identity Card- Associated Press Report
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Foreign Islamic militants have been able to secure Pakistani national identity cards for years in exchange for bribes as low as $100, giving them vastly greater freedom to operate, according to a report by [*]Pakistan's top intelligence agency obtained by The Associated Press.

[*] Does this also include fake identity cards issued on behest of the I.S.I ; just wondering
he issue of foreign jihadis operating so easily in Pakistan has regional and even global implications. The country has long been a destination for aspiring global jihadis to receive training, some of whom are sent back abroad to conduct attacks. Foreign governments, particularly neighboring Afghanistan, have frequently accused elements of the Pakistani government of sheltering Islamic militant groups that frequent the porous and lawless tribal regions along the Afghan border.
A former chief of the anti-cybercrimes division at the Federal Investigation Agency, Ammar Jaffri, said the flood of fake IDs has already hindered authorities' ability to track the communications and financial networks of terrorist groups.

"If you start tracking a terror plot or its financing in Europe or America, you may simply end up at a fake ID card issued in Pakistan," he said.

Hamid Mir Now Lives Like A Fugitive
The most famous television journalist in Pakistan lives like a fugitive. Hamid Mir tells no one where he is going, how he will get there or where he will spend the night.

At Mir’s office, his curtains are always drawn. He uses at least two cellphones and, until recently, he rotated among three residences to obscure his precise location, even from friends.
“Most nerve-racking part of the day,” says the 49-year-old father of two, clenching the grab bar above him on a recent morning as the driver careens through the city taking last-minute instructions on which roads to take. Mir ignores incoming calls from unknown numbers and swivels from side to side, watching traffic to see whether any vehicle stays too close for too long.
Mir is not just trying to avoid recognition; he also is desperately trying to avoid a repeat of what happened to him a little over a year ago as he was being driven from the airport to the Karachi offices of Geo Television, the network that employs him.

That day, a man standing along the road opened fire on his car.
The attack on Mir and the continuing death threats against him are emblematic of a broad backlash against transparency and independent journalism in many parts of the world.
Pakistan, with its volatile mix of shadowy security forces, internecine political battles, terrorist groups and criminal networks, is one of the most dangerous countries for local journalists outside of war zones, according to the United Nations and press freedom groups. Since 2001, 52 journalists have been killed there because of their reporting. Criminal charges have led to convictions in only two cases.

Who nearly killed Hamid Mir on April 19, 2014, remains a mystery.[*]
[*] People in the know, know who is responsible; in the same way, they know, who is responsible for bumping off of Saleem Shehzad .
The media wing’s larger goal is to keep the military’s influence on society obscured, its operations secret, and to promote its strategic interests, according to officials. This includes distancing itself publicly from the US, even though its military has received billions in US taxpayer money, records show.

Reports by Mir and other Pakistani journalists on the military’s secret support for the Afghan Taliban and the ISI’s involvement in CIA covert armed drone strikes deeply embarrassed the military establishment.
In the Wild West province of Balochistan, for example, security forces have been blamed by human rights advocates for the deaths and disappearances of many of the thousands of missing civilians. In that province, 13 journalists have been killed since 2008.

Mir produced more than 38 shows on the topic in the two years leading up to the attack on his life.

In 2012, a senior government official warned Mir to stop reporting on it: “Your life is under threat; you should stop raising your voice,” Mir quoted the man as saying.

Mir’s response: Another report on his show about Balochistan’s missing.
Several weeks later, a neighbour’s driver spotted an explosive device hidden in the undercarriage of Mir’s car outside his home. A bomb squad defused it. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility, as they had for shooting Malala. A war against Hamid Mir had begun.

He scrambled to defend his life and that of his wife and children.

Mir rented a second house, then an apartment and kept the locations a secret. He moved his family every few days.

The people closest to him, he said, pleaded for him to leave the country.

Two weeks before the attempt by gunmen on Mir’s life, an ISI official beckoned him to come to the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, he said.

There, according to Mir’s affidavit, a senior official “pleaded with me” to stop reporting on the army and the prosecution of former president Pervez Musharraf. He is accused of abrogating the constitution when he declared a state of emergency for six weeks in 2007. Mir had done 44 reports on the issue.

“If the army stops interfering in politics, then I will never do a programme on it again,” he told the man from the ISI, the affidavit says.[*]
[*] If the truth be told, Hamid Mir, in past times, has also allowed himself to be used by the Deep State
Weeks later, when Mir was strong enough, he wrote the affidavit, providing investigators the names of people who had threatened him and what they said.

He hadn’t seen the people who shot him, he wrote, but “I suspected that some elements from the ISI were behind the attack.” He recounted for investigators that senior ISI officers had confronted him about his reporting nearly a dozen times.

The assassination attempt had to be ISI-directed, he told investigators. That same day, former president Musharraf was in Karachi, too. The city was on high alert to protect him.

“Only they can manage that the CCTV cameras were not working. And only they could have known about my travel plans,” he wrote.
Some believe Mir is motivated by money and fame. Others believe he is driven by a need to defend his colleagues.
At 8.55, the show ends. Mir escorts his guests to the elevator, laughing and back-slapping until the doors close.

Then, he huddles with his staff and thinks to himself, “Who have I hurt?” He rushes downstairs.

The answer portends the next round of threats. He inspects the dark parking lot and dashes to the waiting car. Two uniformed, armed guards climb into a second security vehicle. Mir zooms out into the night.[*]
[*]Mr Mir is obviously a brave man; but after his recent experience, he knows what are the 'red lines' of the Deep State are

Pakistan allows Taliban to meet, choose leader
Defying warnings from Washington and the fury of Afghanistan's government, Pakistani authorities are turning a blind eye to a meeting of hundreds of Taliban supporters in a city near the Afghan border aimed at resolving a dispute over the group's leadership following the death of figurehead Mullah Mohammad Omar.
The gathering in the Pakistani city of Quetta, where the Taliban's leadership has been largely based since they were pushed from power by a U.S.-led invasion in 2001, has drawn some 1,000 Taliban adherents who have openly descended on the city for a "unity shura," a meeting intended to resolve the leadership crisis and reunite the group, whose divisions have been publicly aired since Mullah Omar's death was revealed in late July.

Hurriyat’s Geelani writes ‘secret’ letter to Sharif
http://www.dawn.com/news/1204606/hurriy ... -to-sharif
NEW DELHI: Senior Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has written a `secret’ letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, local reports said on Wednesday, setting off speculation whether the veteran hardliner has offered Islamabad a way out of the impasse in talks with India.Reports said a three-member delegation from the Hurriyat Conference belonging to the Geelani faction met Pakistani envoy Abdul Basit on Tuesday and handed over a letter for Nawaz Sharif.“We handed over Geelani sahab’s letter for PM Sharif to the officials at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi,” Ayaz Akbar, spokesperson for the Hurriyat Conference, said in a statement on Wednesday.Geelani’s top aides — Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah and Altaf Ahmad — met Mr Basit at his office and stayed there for more than an hour.“The letter is confidential but highly important,” Akbar told IANS.“Officials at the high commission assured us that the letter will be dispatched to the Pakistan Prime Minister on Wednesday,” Akbar said. This was the first time Hurriyat members met the Pakistani envoy after the National Security Adviser (NSA)-level talks in New Delhi were called off by Pakistan. Geelani was slated to have a one-to-one conversation with Pakistan’s NSA Sartaj Aziz if the latter came for the talks.

There is no doubt that , this man (with a big ego  ) is ultimately an Islamist, out and out; ( TTP took out some Deep State Agents, based on his "hearsay evidence") ; where, he made the mistake, was in his delusional belief that Pakistan, is a "Islamic democracy",( whatever that means )- a "normal" state- which time and again, has been proven false. This article, gives the impression, that the "fear of God" has now been installed, in him, and he is now going to be more careful in the future, for the sake of his young family

Imran says Jemima not behind anti-Reham smear campaign

[quote]ISLAMABAD: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on Thursday rejected a report by a British newspaper alleging that ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith was trying to break up his new marriage with talk-show host Reham Khan.

"Jemima has always been supportive & the idea that she would ever be behind any kind of smear campaign (against) Reham is absurd as I told The Mail,"[*][*] the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman said on social media website Twitter.

British newspaper the Daily Mail had quoted an unnamed cousin of Reham's accusing Jemima of being behind negative stories that have recently appeared in the media about Imran's current wife.
"We know what Jemima is doing. We know that she is behind this smear campaign. She doesn't want Imran's marriage to succeed because she is jealous," [*]the Mail quoted Reham's cousin, who it said did not want to be named publicly.

Pakistan ready for short or long war: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif - PTI
Pakistan is ready for a short or long conflict and will inflict heavy losses on India in case "war hysteria" overcomes Indian leadership, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said.

His remarks came in reaction to the statement by Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh that India is prepared for "swift and short" wars in the future.

"We want peace but will inflict heavy losses on India if war hysteria overcame its leadership," he said.

Commenting on Indian Army Chief's remarks, he said, "Pakistan is fully prepared to give a befitting response if India imposed short or prolonged war."

Talking about previous wars, he said Pakistan armed forces "foiled designs" of Indian forces in 1965.

"Our forces crushed the Indian dreams of occupying Lahore back in 1965 and will do the same in future," he said. ..

"Our forces are engaged in the war against terror for several years and they know how to respond to any challenge," he said.

Asif, however, said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif believes in peace.

No money to buy oil, no money in the bank.. no way to challenge the imminent indian naval blockade in case of a war and yet, the pigs are ready for a loooong war..! Probably horse riding Djinns are again ready to fight on the side of the pawkis.. like in '65..

To all fellow SDRE Indians: Let us retreat to our tiny, dark temples as fast as our thin and dirty legs can carry us and start cowering and praying.. Also we should focus on building toilets..

Why does it seem to me that the relationship between India and Pakistan is becoming more and more like that between NoKo and South Korea?

Even here on BRF - just a few years ago Pakistan was keeping "right up there" with all Indian developments. India made 1 lakh car - Pakistan had their junk ready before India. Suparco was claiming satellite after satellite. Pakistan was pretending to keep up nay neighhh stay ahead of India. Now they are not even putting up a pretence.

If you add China to the mix, the resemblance is even greater.

Except that America and Russia have swapped sides and there's no Japan to draw away some of the heat!!

I think most of all, they would feel the lack of Gulf support in the war. It wasn't that much money or weapons that mattered, but psychologically Pakistan has badly burned its bridges to the Middle East, with their Mulayam Singh Yadav  attitude at the time of Yemen crisis. There are no two billion Muslims out there standing shoulder to shoulder with them.

The Gulf Arabs would not stand with them. After Modi's visit to Egypt, nor would the Egyptians stand by them. The Palestinians would not stand by them. The Bangladeshis would only pour more scorn at them. The Afghans would spit at them. And the Iranians support may come more in the form of neutrality than any outright support.

The Chinese would like to keep their support covert, but there is only so much one can do covertly.

The Americans and the West simply can't come out in open support of the Pakis this time and be taken seriously in their fight against terrorism.

Pakis are basically on their own. If it is a short war, their pain would be severe and their humiliation long. If it is a long war they would simply bleed to death, and our pain would be less.

For those who were there to witness, I am sure they remember, excellent parody "radio gappistan" being very popular among us. The radio station (probably ran by some future brfite of those days) was hilarious.. talking in chaste urdu mimicking Radio Pakistan's voice of all those wild claims.. :rotfl:

(Those guys will still tooting "victory" even in 1971 war while Niazi was surrendering to Arora -- broadcasted live for world to watch..)

My brother was in Jodhpur, which was visited by Paki's Sabers-- on the very first day Radio Pakistan was boasting of destroying and describing the building.. that was the hostel where he lived and they were more amused than anything by hilarious boasting of their "airport building" being destroyed completely, hundreds being killed and what not...while the Sabers on that particular night did NO harm.

Well I am not sure. I have interacted with a fair number of SKs, and it does it does not seem to me that at the pee-pee level, SKs and NKs harbor any deep rooted hatred or ill will and vice versa. Furthermore, it seems to me that NKs and SKs are pretty much the same people. This, unlike TSPians who have irreversible hatred for anything Hindu, and despite the colonial propaganda, WKK cowardly talk, Bollywood Bhajrangi Bhaijaan garbage, Indians and TSPians are not the same people. Completely different and on different glide paths.

Pakis 'Afraid' To Face Ajit Doval
NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Abdul Basit, the Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi, said Pakistan did not want to discuss Kashmir issue with Indian National Security Adviser but had proposed to take up the issue in secretary level talks in near near.

The Pakistani proposal was rejected by New Delhi and India even cancelled the scheduled NSAs meeting on August 23, he stated during interview with an Indian news channel.
During the interview when asked about the recent Indian claims that Dawood Ibrahim was residing in Pakistan Basit termed the telephone bills shown at Indian TVs as fake. If Ibrahim were in Pakistan, we would have deported him, [*]he added.
[*] Spoken like a true diplomat ( i.e. a person who lies :D for the good of his country)
The high commissioner extended his expectation [*]that prime ministers of Pakistan and India will meet on the sidelines of upcoming United Nations session. Both government heads should discuss all key issues including Kashmir to improve bilateral ties, he proposed.
[*] media diplomacy ?
He said the Jamaat-ud-Dawa has been well known for its welfare work in Pakistan [*][/b]and its head Hafiz Saeed can approach any court to get banned Indian movie in Pakistan when the host questioned Hafiz Saeed’s recent petition in Lahore High Court for banning Saif Ali Khan’s Phantom. The judiciary is independent to function in Pakistan and any citizen of Pakistan can approach courts, :rotfl: he explained.

Arabs walking away from unfaithful Keep is another blow to TNT. Allah have advised punishing those sex slaves and Nauqars who do not serve the Master with single call .
There was one ancient ,wise Indian, esteem teacher and consultant to Emperor who once advised that first part of the good job is to take away all the friends of the enemy before confronting him in war. It's happening to Pakilunaticstan. Even Prem Chopra Saab echoed the same thought that you cannot rape without stripping one naked. One by One pieces of Paki Sauvirginity Burka will be removed and then Izzat will be looted in full global view and stories be told for many centuries.

Meanwhile in Pakistan:
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/national/0 ... an-india-s
Pakistan's missile and nuclear system are much advanced than that of India, said Dr Samar Mubrakmand – a veteran nuclear scientist.....He said that Pakistan was a peaceful country but if it wanted India can be eliminated from the world's map within a few seconds.
