Six Afghan ‘spies’ nabbed from Balochistan: home minister

QUETTA:
Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Thursday six agents belonging to two networks of Afghan intelligence agency NDS were caught from Quetta.
“Security forces have nabbed six Afghan terrorists involved in explosions, killings and other acts of terrorism in the provincial capital,” he announced in a press briefing.
Bugti said India’s premier spy agency RAW and Afghan intelligence NDS were working in collusion to destabilise Pakistan.
Officers of the NDS were handlers of the agents, and provided them with the resources for killings and terror activities, he added./quote]
Now it is the turn of Afghan "spies" !
The home minister said the Foreign Office will raise the matter with Afghanistan, adding relations could worsen if terrorist activities from across the border continue.
‘Afghan refugees should leave’
Bugti said Afghan refugees should return to the country, and Pakistanis will now put their house in order.
“We can’t tolerate this hospitality as Afghan migrants are now involved in killing innocent Baloch people,” he said. “We are asking a simple thing…we made them [Afghan migrants] our guests, we showered them with hospitality but since now they are killing us, they should leave the country right off.”

In a confessional video statement aired during the press conference, one of the arrested, Abdullah Shah, said he was a resident of Afghan province Helmand but had a Pakistani ID card.
Similarly, Asmatullah, another person held, said he had been living in Pishin district of Balochistan for the last 20 years, and was involved in killing 22 people after having his CNIC made for Rs40,000.
Meanwhile, NDS personnel identified as Qazi Naik Muhammad Noorzai in his statement said the agency provided him Rs15 million for targeted killings.
So the Pakistanis have now decided that anyone caught with a fake Paki ID card in Balochistan and KP Province is a "spy" !
Meanwhile, army chief General Raheel Sharif appreciated the efforts of law enforcement agencies, in unearthing foreign intelligence network in Quetta.

He vowed Pakistan will defeat any nefarious designs of hurting the country and root out hostile elements.

Naming of new Taliban chief seen dimming Obama's hopes for Afghan peace talks

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The selection of a hard-line cleric as the new Taliban chief on Wednesday all but dashes U.S. President Barack Obama's hopes for opening peace talks before he leaves office, one of his top foreign policy goals, current and former U.S. defense and intelligence officials said.The Taliban leadership council tapped Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, a conservative Islamic scholar from the group's stronghold in southern Afghanistan, to succeed Mullah Akhtar Mansour, four days after Mansour was killed in a U.S. drone strike.
U.S. officials had called Mansour a major impediment to peace talks, and some had expressed hope his death would eliminate an obstacle to peace negotiations between the Taliban and the government of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
Instead, some experts said, Akhundzada is likely to pursue aggressive attacks throughout the summer, intensifying the pressure on Obama to reconsider his plan to withdraw U.S. military trainers and special forces and leave the decision on how to end America's longest war to his successor.

"Prospects for the Afghan peace process remain poor. The Taliban leadership, including the new commander, Mullah Akhundzada, believe military victory is only a matter of time," said Bruce Riedel, a Brookings Institution expert and former CIA officer who headed Obama's first Afghanistan policy review.

Confronted with Taliban gains, a weak Kabul government and the emergence of an Islamic State branch, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan is reviewing the withdrawal plan and is expected to complete his findings within a month.
The administration remains committed to its strategy of pressing for peace talks while providing funds and military advice, training and equipment to Afghan forces, said Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who indicated the U.S. troop drawdown would resume.

“Whenever I hear anyone in the administration talking about the prospects for peace negotiations or how killing Mullah Mansour could improve them, I have to ask what they’ve been smoking," a U.S. military officer with extensive experience in Afghanistan, said on condition of anonymity.
"Regardless of who leads them, the Taliban have zero incentive to negotiate on their determination to restore their brand of Islamic rule." Puppets of Pakistan !

The insurgents have little reason to trust the coalition government or Obama's successor, who takes office in January, to keep any agreement, said a U.S. official with experience in Afghanistan.

Afghan Taliban have confirmed the news of death of their ex. Supreme commander Mullah Akhtar Mansoor in a drone strike in Baluchistan province of Pakistan bordering Pakistan – Iran – Afghanistan.
Moulana Haibutullah Akhunzada has been appointed as the new Afghan Taliban Commander by the Taliban Supreme council while Siraj Uddin Haqqani and son of Mullah Muhammad Umer, Mullah Yakub have been designated as his two deputies.
However the question arises that why Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was drone striked in the Pakistani territory of Baluchistan when he had just crossed the Iranian borer and entered Pakistan.
New York Times quoting the reliable sources have also confirmed that Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was in Iran and when he entered Pakistan he was tracked and targeted inside Pakistani soil.

Sources confirm that Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has travelled to different countries including Pakistan, Iran and Oman many times in last few years and 13 such trips have positively been identified and out of which two recent trips were made to Iran.
US Wall Street journal confirmed that Mullah Akhtar Mansoor family is residing in Iran and Mullah Akhtar Mansoor went to Iran to meet his family (were Iranians aware of his true identity ?)along with some other commitments.

US authorities were constantly tracking Mullah Akhtar Mansoor through his mobile phone, both Wall Street journal and New York Times confirmed it.
However the questions arises if he had frequently travelled to many part of the region then why was he targeted only inside Pakistan while he had just entered Pakistani territory.
What objectives United States wanted to achieve by targeting Mullah Akhtar Mansoor inside Pakistan.

Pakistan's sover-virginity is on sale and can be violated by all and sundry; Iran's sovereignty is sacred and the US don't want to create an "international incident" by droning him there

United States wants to assure rest of the world that Pakistan is harbouring Afghan Taliban.
2. United States wants to tell Afghanistan that Pakistan is the real culprit for all their problems hence further deteriorating the Pakistan – Afghanistan relations.
3. US did not attack Mullah Akhtar Mansoor inside Iran fearing the back lash from Iranian authorities of drone strike.
4. To put further pressure on on Pakistan to do more against terrorism.
5. US wanted to scale down Pakistan Army efforts of Operation Zarb-e-Azab which has successfuly eradicated terrorism in Pakistan.
6. US may want to stop the F-16 sale to Pakistan and the military findings to the Armed Forces on behest of Indian authorities.
7. Latest reports mentioned in New York Times suggest that Pakistani authorities cooperated with US in the intelligence information regarding the drone strike in order to kill Mullah Mansoor. The argument seems ridiculous as why would Pakistan want a drone strike inside Baluchistan by US and why would Pakistan like to deteriorate it’s relations with the Afghan Taliban.

IMO does not seem far-fetched ; OBL precedent is there, when Pakis did not hinder the US operation! And just today, there were reports that the US has agreed to release coalition funds again ; so, maybe a bargain was made- for financial consideration and Mansoor was the fall guy - but the "Awam" were obviously not informed

This seems to be an effort to malign and deteriorate the Pakistan relations with Afghan Taliban in order to increase troubles for Pakistan.
Last but not the least the most worrisome factor is that US has shown it’s drone presence in Baluchistan area of Pakistan, an area marked for China Pakistan Economic Corridor project CPEC, giving an indication that US is watching the CPEC route actively.
US has further announced to track the terrorists any where in the region including sovereign territory of Pakistan.
If the things continued to happen like this and Pakistan did not raise the voice then wait for the day when the headlines of national and international media would break the story of some drone strike in Lahore or Islamabad.

If Pakistan becomes a "normal" country, there would be no need for drone strikes, etc

What will happen to thousands of Muslim “converts” if Europe deports them?

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Since the Syrian uprising against President Bashar al-Asad reshaped itself into a civil war and introduction of Islamic State militant group further devastated the country, thousands of people have been taking refuge in nearby countries such as Turkey, Jordan, Greece, Albania, Germany and France, among others.
The crisis has been spiraling out of control since 2015 as the number of asylum-seeking migrants in Europe has crossed 100,000.

Many Europeans have demanded a ban on Muslim refugees in Europe since the attacks, saying that only Christians should be accepted on the continent.

Observers are now concerned that the situation may be forcing many Muslims to convert to Christianity just to gain asylum in European countries.
Recently, a report of the Daily Beast claimed that thousands of Muslim refugees, including Pakistanis, have started getting baptized as Christians in countries like Netherlands, Germany and Denmark in a bid to secure asylum in these countries.

Apostasy is a crime in Malsi, so these so-called refugees when deported will be treated as "third class" beings, unless they re-convert back!

Many in Europe also fear that potential terrorists could also use this knowledge by converting to Christianity before entry into Europe. The government of the Netherlands, in particular, is suspicious of new converts, with many observers saying a new convert to Christianity is actually more likely to have their asylum requests rejected.#

n an article published in The Washington Post, a number of verses were recently interpreted by Egyptian Islamic scholar Ali Gomaa to justify the recent spate of Muslim conversions in Europe. Gomaa, in his article, stated that if abandoning Islam is a sin, it will be punished by God on the Day of Judgment, in effect removing grounds for their prosecution upon return to their predominantly Muslim countries of origin.
Unfortunately, his minority position has received severe criticism around the globe, from both Muslim and non-Muslims alike. Ultimately, he issued a new statement in Arabic saying “What I actually said was that Islam prohibits a Muslim from changing his religion and it’s a crime that must be punished.”
However, another Islamic concept called “Taqiyya” has also been used by some scholars to justify the act of abandoning Islam in life-threatening situations. (These returnees should "shop around" for an Islamic scholar who is willing to issue a fatwa for the right price, justifying that action as "life threatening"; this in turn may save their skin ) However, there is a lack of consensus on it among different sects of Muslims.

n the event that a large number of Muslims converts in Europe are sent back to their home countries, the concept of Taqiyya may be all that stands in the way of their successful reintegration into Muslim society and certain death.

They should consider "opening" Halal Butchery Schools !

Data available with Pakistan Halal Product Development Board (PHPDB), Punjab Halal Development Agency (PHDA), Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) reveals that poor masses do not know what they have been consuming in the name of ‘Halal’ that has actually been nothing to do with even Muslim dietary law enshrined in the 1973 Constitution.

So the Paki Halal authorities are sleeping on the job, as far as implementation is concerned !

“Majority of butchers are ignorant of Islamic modalities regarding pre-slaughtering and post-slaughtering procedures of animals. They just slay the animals and provide mutton, beef and chicken meat to the public that is not ‘Halal’. Meanwhile, food items are made of such stuff banned by other Muslim countries due to their ingredients are forbidden by Islam. Cosmetic, pharmaceutical, chemicals and other industries are scot free to use prohibitive imported materials,” officials added.

So Ganja and Mushy have two choices before them vis-a-vis their heart/ health problem ; consume the "haram" medicines prescribed by the foreign doctors and live ! or decline the non-halal stuff and leave your fate to Allah !

The 20-member CII is a constitutional body which gives recommendations to parliament regarding Islamic laws. However, parliament is not bound to consider its recommendations.

The bill was drafted after the CII rejected Punjab’s controversial Protection of Women against Violence Act (PPWA) 2015 terming it un-Islamic. The CII will now forward its proposed bill to the Punjab Assembly.

The council has proposed that a husband should be allowed to ‘lightly’ beat his wife if she defies his commands and refuses to dress up as per his desires; turns down demand of intercourse without any religious excuse or does not take bath after intercourse or menstrual periods.

It has suggested that a beating is also permissible if a woman does not observe Hijab; interacts with strangers; speaks loud enough that she can easily be heard by strangers; and provides monetary support to people without taking consent of her spouse.

Available with The Express Tribune, a copy of the 163-page bill proposes several bans on women.

It says there should be a ban on co-education after primary education, ban on women from taking part in military combat, ban on welcoming foreign delegations, interacting with males and making recreational visits with ‘Na-Mehram’. It says female nurses should not be allowed to take care of male patients and recommends that women should be banned from working in advertisements.

It recommends that an abortion after 120 days of conceiving should be declared ‘murder’. However, it says a woman can join politics and contract a Nikah without permission of parents.

The New York Times says that the droning of Mohammadden Cleric and Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour was a message from the US to its Major Non NATO ally, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The NYT said that “By using the military’s Joint Special Operations Command rather than the C.I.A. to carry out the attack, the United States denied Pakistan the fig leaf of a covert operation, which in the past has given the Pakistanis the ability to claim they had been consulted beforehand.”:

PM Narendra Modi: Pakistan should completely stop support to terror to boost ties

WASHINGTON: India-Pakistan ties can "truly scale great heights" if Pakistan removes the "self-imposed" obstacle of terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said as he asked Islamabad to play its part by putting a complete stop to any kind of support to terrorism - "whether state or non-state".

"In my view, our ties can truly scale great heights once Pakistan removes the self-imposed obstacle of terrorism in the path of our relationship.

"We are ready to take the first step, but the path to peace is a two-way street," Modi told the Wall Street Journal, in comments posted on its website on Friday. How often must India "Beg" Cwapistan to abjure its Perpetration of Terrorism in India? Its time India gave up on this unattainable dream!

He said he has always maintained that instead of fighting with each other, India and Pakistan should together fight against poverty.

Modi's significant comment on India's Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which many now also prefer to call as strategic autonomy, came in response to a question on China's assertiveness.

"The US is very keen on India, the rising power that India is, to be part of, if not an alliance, then at least a grouping that can stand up to some extent to China. Where do you see India taking a position on the global stage?" he was asked.

"We don't have any fighting with China today. We have a boundary dispute, but there is no tension or clashes. People-to-people contacts have increased. Trade has increased. Chinese investment in India has gone up. India's investment in China has grown," Modi said.

"Despite the border dispute, there haven't been any clashes. Not one bullet has been fired in 30 years," he said.

"So the general impression that exists, that's not the reality," Modi said on India's ties with China.
Modi appeared to be appreciative of China's Maritime Silk Road initiative.

"We feel that the world needs to hear more from China on this initiative, especially its intent and objective," he said.

With a 7,500 kilometre-long coastline, India has a natural and immediate interest in the developments in the Indo-Pacific region, he said, adding that India has excellent relationships with the littoral states of the Indian Ocean.

"India is a net security provider in the Indian Ocean region. We, therefore, watch very carefully any developments that have implications for peace and stability in this region," he noted.

Talking about India's ties with the US, Modi said many of the values between the two countries match.

"Our friendship has endured, be it a Republican government or a Democratic. It is true that Obama and I have a special friendship, a special wavelength," he said ahead of his travel to the US next month - his fourth visit to the country after becoming the Prime Minister.

"Beyond our bilateral relationship, whether it is global warming or terrorism, we have similar thoughts, so we work together.

"But India doesn't make its policies in reference to a third country. Nor should it," Modi said.
He said India and the US have enjoyed a warm relationship, regardless of whether America has a Republican or Democratic administration.

"During the last two years, President Obama and I have led the momentum; we are capturing the true strength and scale of our strategic, political and economic opportunities, and people to people ties. Our ties have gone beyond the Beltway and beyond South Block," he said.

"Our concerns and threats overlap. We have a growing partnership to address common global challenges viz. terrorism, cyber security and global warming. We also have a robust and growing defence cooperation. Our aim to go beyond a buyer-seller relationship towards a strong investment and manufacturing partnership," he added.

Modi said unlike the last century, when the world was divided into two camps, this is not true anymore.

"Today, the whole world is interdependent.

"Even if you look at the relationship between China and the US, there are areas where they have substantial differences but there are also areas where they have worked closely.

"That's the new way," he said.

"If we want to ensure the success of this interdependent world, I think countries need to cooperate but at the same time we also need to ensure that there is a respect for international norms and international rules," he said.

Iran had hand in Mullah Mansour’s killing: Gulbuddin Hekmatyar

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the chief of Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) on Friday accused Tehran of sharing intelligence about Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour’s whereabouts with the United States.
Mansour was killed last week in a US drone strike near Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

According to a statement issued by HIA chief, “It has now been confirmed that Iranian intelligence agencies had passed on information to American spy agents that helped drone aircraft attack Mullah Akhtar Mansour.”

So, according to this version, the Iranians had no hesitation in collaborating with the "evil Americans" to get rid of the Taliban menace !

A US drone aircraft killed the Taliban leader in Balochistan over the weekend, a move which Pakistan says has scuttled efforts for the peace process.
“He (Mansour) came under attack near the Iranian border when the spy aircraft reached there from Kandahar and Mansour arrived at the site from Iran at the same time,” the HIA leader said.“While we strongly condemn the terrorist act during the peace talks, we consider it as a big and unforgivable treason by Iran,” Hekmatyar said, who is close to striking a peace deal with the Afghan government.

He said Iran had always “stabbed the Muslim Ummah in the back since its birth and had acted as inimical to the interests of the Islamic nations.”

Hard to believe that this is the same Hekmatyar, who was given "Panah" (i.e. sanctuary) in Iran, when all sorts of "enemies" were "after his hide?

The Hizb leader further said that his organisation wanted to finalise an agreement with the Afghan government through negotiations and should also make efforts to encourage the Taliban to join the intra-Afghan dialogue.“We had also attached a condition for such changes within the government in Kabul to make it acceptable to the Taliban and all others,” he said.Hekmatyar said certain elements in Afghanistan and outside, who find their interests in war, are trying to create hurdles in the peace process.

Reference to Pakistan by "Engineer Hekmatyar" ?

However, Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost on Friday said that Iran would not let its territory be used against Pakistan. The statement came with reference to Mullah Mansour’s killings in last week.

US urges Pak to cooperate with India to fully investigate Mumbai attacks

WASHINGTON: The United States of America has urged Pakistan to cooperate with the Indian authorities to fully investigate Mumbai attacks.

US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner, in a daily media briefing on Thursday said, “Mumbai attacks were terrible tragedy. We continue to urge the Pakistani government to cooperate with the Indian authorities to fully investigate these attacks. US wants to see justice done and we continue to urge Pakistani cooperation.”

To a question, Mark Toner said, “Pakistan needs to address all groups operating on their soil – Taliban groups that are operating on their soil and their territory. We’ve urged them to do so in the past. We continue to urge them to do so and have worked with them on addressing the very real threat on their own soil.”

He said it’s an ongoing conversation that US had with the Pakistani authorities.

The spokesman said that the strike against Taliban chief Mullah Mansour was based on both his previous actions but also his intent to carry out additional strikes not only against Afghan forces, but against US military forces on the ground in Afghanistan, and the fact that he was not playing a productive role or any role in leading us towards negotiations or a peace process – or talks, rather.

He said the new Taliban leadership has an opportunity to engage – re-engage on peace talks, and hoped that they make that choice.

SLAMABAD (APP) – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Thursday said that Pakistan was considering linking Gwadar with the Iranian harbor Chabahar, in which India has a major stake.
“Pakistan welcomes projects of regional connectivity which have the potential to generate economic activity,” Aziz said while responding to a question during a press briefing.

Appearance of women in ads should be banned: CII draft bill

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is considering the draft of a model ‘Protection of Women’s Rights bill in the light of injunctions of Islam and the Shariah, which allows women to participate in politics, prohibits honour killings and rituals like ‘Wani’ and girls marriage with the Holy Quran and envisages minor punishment to a wife by the husband to mend her ways.

The proposed law also says that there would be a ban on women to receive foreign guests, co-education beyond primary level, nursing of male patients by female nurses and proposes prohibition of educating music, dance and sculpture making. There would also be a ban on appearance of women in advertisements which could create social problems while a mother would also be bound to feed her baby for two years. It also prohibits advertisement of infant milks.

“A Muslim woman turning Murtad cannot be given capital punishment,” Maulana Shirani said, adding that forced change of religion of a woman will be a punishable crime with three years imprisonment.

The draft of the bill further says that an adult girl could accept Islam willingly but no woman could be forced to change her religion.

Asma Jahangir doesn’t speak against drone strikes but “elements causing drone strikes”

LAHORE (Staff Report) – While keeping quiet about the American role in drone strikes, renowned lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir has urged the government to expel elements whose presence in the country leads to US drone strikes.
Talking to newsmen outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), Asma said that Pakistan is so mismatched with the United States in terms of power that it could only register protest against drone strikes. American policy to violate Pakistan’s sovereignty is not legal, but Pakistan also needs to revisit its foreign policy, she added.
She said that the expulsion of militant elements from Pakistan is in our own interest and in that case United States will also not violate out borders to kill them.

Asma Jahangir, however, disagrees with Pakistan’s official stance on drones and believes that radicalization of the Pakistani youth had started in the 1980s during Zia rule, long before there were any drone attacks on militants.
She also believes that Pakistan’s sovereignty has already been hijacked by non-state militants of various nationalities and the areas where the drone strikes happen, are fully under control of these militants.
These militants have actually taken over parts of FATA and have been running a parallel system of governance in these areas and they must be targeted by all means, she adds.

Hope that she does not meet any "accident" for speaking such blunt language !

So the question is that, sir: Except giving pace to the nuclear arms race in the region, what really the United States is gaining in getting India into NSG?

MR TONER: Into the Nuclear Suppliers Group?

MR TONER: Well, again, it’s – this is not about an arms race and it’s not about nuclear weapons. This is about the peaceful civil use of nuclear energy, and so we would certainly hope that Pakistan understands that.

F-16 deal expires amid Pakistan-US row over finances

Pakistan seems to have failed to seal the deal for the purchase of eight F-16 fighter jets from the United States following a row over financing.

The Pakistani government was required to provide the Letter of Acceptance for purchase of the jets by May 24, but a diplomatic source revealed that the document was not issued leading to expiry of the offer. “Pakistan decided not to fully fund the case with national funds, so the terms of sale have now expired,” the source told Dawn.
Initially, the $699 million deal for eight F-16C/D Block-52 multi-role fighters (2 C and 6 D models), was to be partially financed through the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme, but Congress disallowed subsidising the sale over concerns that Pakistan had not done enough to end the Haqqani network’s sanctuaries on its soil as well as fears about Islamabad’s nuclear programme, particularly tactical weapons and the intermediate range Shaheen III missile.
Pakistan, which expected to get the fighters at the subsidised rate of $270 million, was subsequently asked by the US administration to make the full payment for the eight aircraft from its national resources. This was not acceptable to Pakistani authorities, who remained adamant that the offer must come without any preconditions.
The aircraft were required by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. The additional jets would have enhanced the PAF’s capacity to sustain counter-terrorism operations by increasing aircraft availability and providing training opportunities for pilots transitioning to the Block-52 version. Furthermore, the aircraft would have come with ‘all-weather, non-daylight environments and self-defence/area suppression capability’.
It was unclear why Pakistan missed the opportunity despite pressing requirement for the jets, although it had originally desired to acquire 18 F-16s.
Some quarters believe that providing the Letter of Acceptance would have kept the window open for re-negotiating the financing arrangement at a later stage.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to US Jalil Abbas Jilani, talking to Dawn via phone from Washington, said “a dead-end has not been reached as yet”.
Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said last month that Pakistan could look to buy the aircraft from some other country if the deal did not go ahead. Analysts believe Islamabad could consider Russian or Chinese fighters to meet its defence requirements.
Meanwhile, negotiations are also continuing with TUSAS Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) for the upgrade of 74 F-16 fighters currently serving in the PAF fleet. A Turkish team is due in Islamabad in July to continue discussions on the project. US consent would be required for the deal to materialise.
TAI had, under a 2009 agreement, previously upgraded 41 PAF aircraft to Block-52 standard. The last of the upgraded fighters were handed over to PAF in September 2014.
US had provided the needed parts, materials and technical data to TUSAS to upgrade the PAF jets.

PAKISTAN: Investigation failure leads to the killings of Ahmadis

Religious persecution has dominated human rights abuse in Pakistan. Ahmadi religious minorities have been the preferred targets of religious fundamentalists. Recently, another Ahmadi, Dawood Ahmad, was shot dead in the Gulzar Hijri area of Karachi, on the night of 24 May 2016. He was the target of religious malice and hatred against Ahmadis in Pakistan, which shows no sign of abating.
According to media reports, Mr. Dawood was waiting for a friend outside his house when two men came on a motorbike and opened fire on him and fled. Three bullets hit him: one in the chest and two in the abdomen. He was injured critically and was rushed to hospital, but he did not survive.

Since 1984, thirty Ahmadis have been killed in Karachi. To date not a single murderer has been brought to justice. The State, in order to appease its allies, i.e. the religious fundamentalist and political religious party does not investigate murder cases of Ahmadi victims.

The hate speech in Pakistani media against the Ahmadis largely goes unnoticed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). The trend of violence is deliberately allowed to spiral out of control, making it difficult for the beleaguered Ahmadis to live in Pakistan. A country that emerged in the name of a specific religion has yet to establish the definition of a Muslim. A Sunni Muslim Punjabi male is what best conforms to the State ideology and orthodox theology. The Judiciary also appears complacent and meek in the face of religious fundamentalism and orthodox clergy who are bent on enforcing and implementing the firebrand version of Wahabbism, a religious movement that seeks to restore Islam to its “original form”).

It’s been 40 years since Ahmadis were declared non-Muslims through an amendment in the Constitution, which resulted in wide scale persecution and victimization of the sect. Nowhere in the world does any minority suffer such persecution at the State level. Ahmadi’s, despite playing a pivotal role in the politics of the country since its inception have been alienated, their political representation has been reduced to nil. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the Community to profess its religious belief with freedom and without fear despite the constitutional guarantee under Article 20, which stipulates:

The Asian Human Rights Commission urges the government to fulfil its duty to protect the minorities, including the Ahmadi, as per the country’s laws and its constitution. The AHRC also urges the government to immediately arrest the murderers of Dawood Ahmad.
