Pakistan Is Alienating It's Own Pashtun Population By Its Recent Actions -Rustom Shah Mohmand- Ex Ambassador Of Pakistan To Afghanistan, Former Interior Secty
POSTING IN FULL
The deepening Pak-Afghan divide
The closing of the Torkham border crossing and the refusal to allow Afghans not possessing relevant travel documents to enter Pakistan was always going to have multi-dimensional ramifications on the course of relations between the two countries, which can now be seen in the tensions on the border that resulted in the tragic martyrdom of a Pakistan Army major. The rationale for the Pakistani decision to limit the crossing of Afghans into Pakistan is simple: many acts of terrorism were attributed to Afghans entering Pakistan unlawfully and national interest dictated a more restrictive policy that would deny entry to those not possessing proper documents and whose identity cannot be established.
However, something that should not be ignored is that there are 235 entry-exit points along the 2,250km border, but customs and immigration procedures are applicable only at Torkham and Chaman.
For someone intending to engage in acts of terrorism inside Pakistan, it will be naive to attempt to cross the border at Torkham and Chaman, and expose themselves to the risk of being caught by dozens of officials manning the border on each side. Such terrorists or their supporters would rather take any other convenient route to enter Pakistan.
Secondly, facts suggest that over the last 10 years, hardly one per cent of Afghan nationals or refugees have been found involved covertly or overtly in sponsoring terror attacks in Pakistan. Most terror attacks have either been planned by terrorists inside Pakistan or by Pakistanis who have found shelter inside Afghanistan. Another important factor that we need to consider is the question of resources: do we have the manpower, space and facilities to check 10,000 visas every day in a place like Torkham, located at the entrance of the Khyber Pass where hundreds of trucks carrying goods are parked on each side with transporters seeking clearance from more than half a dozen departments?

More and more, this is now beginning to be a divide between the Pakjabi Establishment of Pakiland and the Pashtuns of KP and FATA ; the Baloch, the Sindhis and the Mohajirs are already alienated !
The recent violence at the Torkham border crossing will surely create animosity and anger within people on both sides of the border. The hostility in Afghanistan has the potential to have long-term consequences for Pakistan, keeping in view the range of projects of great strategic significance, like CASA-1000 and TAPI, which may be negatively impacted if this situation persists. The fate of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which is set to be a key for our infrastructure and energy needs, may also be indirectly impacted. There is a need for more effective border management on the Pak-Afghan border
There is a need for more effective border management on the Pak-Afghan border
.
However, considering that Islamabad has not been able to develop a positive working relationship with New Delhi and is digging trenches on its border with Iran, border tensions with Afghanistan will only allow anti-Pakistan feelings to deepen in that country. Is it in our interest to isolate ourselves internationally and promote an image of a country that cannot coexist with its neighbours?
A Pakistani - a man of the Establishment - questioning the direction Pakistan Foreign Policy is taking
Consider the enormous implications for Pakistan. There are about 150,000 Pakistani refugees living in the province of Khost in Afghanistan. These tribesmen were able to go across the border easily because their co-tribesmen on the other side did not object to them seeking refuge in Afghanistan when their lives were in danger as the military operation got underway in our tribal areas. There are also close to 150,000 Pakistani skilled workers living inside Afghanistan, mostly without travel documents. There are tribes on both sides divided by the Durand line. Common ethnicity is a major factor. Under a treaty signed between Afghanistan and the British Indian government in 1905, people within five miles of the border are not required to present any documents and are allowed to travel freely without any hindrance.
From the Afghan point of view, that treaty is still binding on both Afghanistan and Pakistan — the successor state to British India. Sentiments against Pakistan in Afghanistan run deep for several reasons. According to a recent public opinion survey in Afghanistan, the favourability rating for Pakistan had plunged to a dismal 3.6 per cent. Should this not be a wake-up call for us?
Warning being given ?
Then there is the issue of Afghan refugees. In the wake of the arrest of some Afghan spies in Quetta, there is a crescendo of voices emanating mostly from armchair ‘analysts’ in the media calling for forcible repatriation of all refugees. The one who kicked off this debate was the Balochistan interior minister who basically said that Afghan refugees will be humiliated and kicked out of Pakistan if they don’t leave soon. Apart from the unfortunate choice of language by the minister, what he and others have not realised is that these refugees have come from areas in Afghanistan that are most insecure because of insurgency and where government institutions, like schools, roads and hospitals don’t function. Having lost their homes, the refugees have nowhere to go. Despite this, voluntary repatriation to Afghanistan happens all the time. On average, around 20,000 Afghan refugees are repatriated each month. Having lived here for over 30 years, are we going to force them to leave and generate huge anger and hatred for Pakistan? Is it fair under international law to force refugees to go back against their will? Would such a step not sow the seeds of long-term hostility towards Pakistan?
Then there is the question of so-called undocumented refugees — those whom the authorities here have not been able to reach and register. Should they be penalised for the inability of our institutions to register them? Not a day passes by without innocent refugees, mostly hawkers, vendors and street peddlers who have lived here for decades, being picked up by the police, detained and humiliated with scant regard for any norms of justice or the thought that these people may be the sole bread-earners for their impoverished families.
While every country has the right to secure its borders and introduce a system to address a lax security system, it is best if that is done with mutual understanding with the other side. Too often our decision-making is predicated upon transient security concerns and there is little regard for long-term strategic interests of the country. There is a need for reappraisal on both sides before it is too late.
This establishment Paki cautioning his own govt against rash actions that could have a blowback !

The afghans reacted so violently because the pakis tried to legitimize the disputed border, once again. The pakis can shout all that they want from their rooftops, but they know that the line is disputed by the afghans and no afghan of any standing has ever agreed to or supported the version put out by the pakis.

The paki aam aadmi has just learned a bit more than he wants to know about the disputed durand line

The "illiterate" afghans have realized the value of their access to the sea and their very future hinges on securing and keeping this vital access to the sea that the pakis have consciously blocked.

Disappointed with the video. Shows JF-17 firing a missile at F-22. In reality it would have rammed the F-22 blowing both the planes up in a glorious soosai attack.

The reversal of relationship between Pakis and Afghanistan is stunning. Ghani came to power and made a famous statement that India and Afghanistan are friends but Pakistan and Afghanistan were brothers. What a stunning reversal from Karzai's days !!

Ghani stopped sending a new batch of officers to India for training. Sent them to Pakistan instead. Visited Pakistan, China and US before India. Worked out a deal with Bad Sharif: they'd give up TTP in return for Pakis getting Taliban to the table and Taliban agreeing to interim ceasefire.

Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil quit saying Pakistan cannot be trusted and that Afghanistan is being taken for a ride.

TTP threat is gone now. It emerged Mullah Omar has been dead for years. Taliban attacks have not ceased and on top of that Pakistan is now building border infrastructure, shutting down Afghan run businesses in Pakistan and making it harder for Afghan people to cross. On top of that submitted a term sheet which pretty much demanded Afghanistan surrender it's foreign policy and autonomy to Pakistan.

Now they are shelling Afghanistan with artillery.

Just like how it happened with US: Bush, Clinton and now Obama. It takes presidents of Afghanistan years to understand Pakistan.

No Pakistani University Has Succeeded To Rank Among The 100 Best University Of Asia
Pakistan Universities Ranking in Asia
SLAMABAD: No Pakistani university has succeeded to rank among the 100 best universities of Asia while Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS) has been declared the best university of Pakistan.
According to Global Higher Education Analyst report, there is no university of Pakistan listed among the 100 best universities of Asia however 10 universities of Pakistan have succeeded to rank among 350 best universities.
LUMS has emerged as the best university of Pakistan and secured 111 number in ranking while NUST in Islamabad is the second highest rank university securing 112 number in ranking.
Quaid-e-Azam University fell from 116th to 149th due to poor performance while Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science that remained among the top universities of Pakistan last year, fell from 115th to 149th position.

Agha Khan University also fell from 117th to 183th while Karachi University fell from 201th to 210th.

Punjab University, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, UET Lahore and University of Agriculture Faisalabad stood at 230, 240, 250 and 350 No. respectively.
It is also pertinent to mention here that Hong Kong 4, China, Singapore and South Korea 2 universities each have succeeded to rank among 10 best universities of Asia.
To maintain their facade of = = ,( and the H&D factor !) above news was censored to exclude that 6 INDIAN UNIVERSITIES including the famous IIT , Aligarh University and JNU also came into the best 100's

PS: I am sure that when the list of BEST MADRASSAHS (Sunni sector only  ) IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD IS PUBLISHED, PAKISTAN WILL TOP THE RANKINGS !

Residents clash in Chitral over Kalash girl’s ‘forced’ conversion to Islam
http://www.dawn.com/news/1265253
ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of local residents clashed with members of Kalash tribe in Chitral on Thursday after a teenager claimed she was forced to convert to Islam, police and residents said. The Kalash are only around 4,000 in number, according to Rehmat.Increasingly their youth are converting to Islam, prompting activists to campaign to preserve the traditions of the ancient, diminishing tribe.
The teenager went to a neighbour's house to speak to police, the home's owner told AFP, but hundreds of people began to gather outside as word spread through the close-knit community.“The Kalash community had also gathered to save the family and when the Muslims chanting slogans attacked the house with sticks and pelted stones everybody was running for their lives,” Rehmat, who was out of breath from fleeing the scene, told AFP by telephone.““They came out in a mob to attack my house and to kill my wife and my children,” he said, asking to remain anonymous.“They threw stones at the roof and at the windows. Police were firing in the air.”Chitral, a northern district of Khyber-Pukhtunkwa province, has long attracted tourists for its beauty.

Pakistan can't tolerate increasing India-Afghan friendly ties: Karzai
KABUL: Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai said Pakistan does not want good relations between India and Afghanistan and wants "no bilateral trade and no access to Central Asia for India" which is unacceptable for Afghanistan. In an interview with BBC Urdu on Thursday, Karzai claimed that India is helping Afghanistan build its infrastructure and health facilities and has "filled Afghanistan with money despite being a poor country"."India wants to truly befriend Afghanistan and we want Pakistan to do the same," said the former Afghan president. He said Pakistan should also become a part of the regional coalition between Afghanistan, India and Iran, but "Pakistan's condition is that Afghanistan should not have contacts with India."Terming the formation of Durand Line a 'result of British imperialism' in the region, Karzai said that Afghanistan has never accepted this border since 1893, nor will they ever accept it in future."When Pakistan came into being in 1947, they received it this way, so we are not blaming them but Durand Line is a blow which no Afghan can ever forget. We do not accept this border but will not fight over this issue," said Karzai.
He stressed that Afghanistan is a sovereign country and is not taking dictation from any other country but "Pakistan government has taken some steps on Durand Line which are angering Afghans".
When asked as to why Afghanistan does not approach UN or International Court of Justice over the Durand Line issue, Karzai said it is not an international issue but 'inheritance of imperialsm' and only the respective governments of Pakistan and Afghan can resolve this matter. He maintained that terrorism and extremism is a menace which has not only affected people of both Pakistan and Afghanistan but added that "we (Afghans) think they have found safe havens and are getting aid from Pakistan.""When this will stop, Pakistan too will see peace," said Karzai, who ruled Afghanistan from 2004 to 2014.

APTMA prefers Indian cotton over ‘quality’ difference

KARACHI:
Textile mills are showing a strong preference for imported cotton, primarily from India, causing local farmers to lash out at the development. They say that export subsidies offered by India make their product cheaper than Pakistan’s, which is why local businesses are opting to import the commodity. :(( :((

However, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Chairman Tariq Saud said that the cotton held by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was of low quality, which was the main reason why Aptma members were not buying it.

“We have already told this to Minister for National Food Security Sikandar Hayat Bosan that the issue is not about prices, but of quality,” Saud told The Express Tribune.

Aptma is continuously opposing any expected imposition of duty on cotton imports from India saying that the government’s assessment about the local cotton market is based on ‘false’ data.

After receiving complaints against Aptma of destabilising cotton market by importing cotton bales, the Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research unanimously recommended immediate imposition of regulatory duty on cotton imports.

“We are not acting against the interests of our farmers. We just need quality cotton that we are not getting in the local market,” he maintained.

Bosan believes Aptma is responsible for undermining the interests of local farmers.

Farmers say that they have been facing problems due to low commodity prices for over a year. Moreover, they blame Aptma for aggravating the situation by importing from India. :((

They say since India provides billions in subsidies, there should not be any comparison between the two neighbours. you've got that right. There IS no comparison

Aptma rejected these claims, saying that India does not give any subsidy on export of cotton to Pakistan. The reason behind the enhancement in production of cotton crop in India is the introduction of modern technology and research which we are lacking here in Pakistan, added the association.

Pakistan’s Foreign Policy Has Failed, Resulting in Regional Isolation -Pashtun Times
A sovereign state’s foreign policy changes with the times, according to its domestic needs and changes in global politics around it. Nations have interests and there are no permanent enemies and friendships in international politics. A neighboring state can be a boon or a bane, depending on one’s ability to recognize long-term interests of sustainable peace along the borders
Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan recently has been one such example of a state caught and unable to define its foreign policy and national interest beyond Cold War paradigms. India-centric foreign policy thinking has stalled Pakistan’s foreign policy evolution and tainted its worldview. Pakistan has strained and difficult relations with all its neighbors, with the important exception of China.
After the Kargil War in 1999, the hostilities between India and Pakistan shifted the country’s attention to its western border, to contain the very real risk of nuclear escalation between the two states. Pakistan did this while continuing its proxy war in Afghanistan. Pakistan’s foreign policymakers and military elite thought that acquiring the upper hand in Afghanistan and containing the warring tribesmen next door would be a much easier task.
The involvement of the international community post-9/11 in Afghanistan and the international commitment to quell the Taliban-led insurgency has, however, left Pakistan regionally and internationally isolated, despite its involvement as a key U.S. ally in the War on Terror.
Pakistan has failed to use its shared cultural, linguistic, economic, and ethnic realities with Afghanistan, while India has moved in with huge economic promise for the development of the Afghan state. Despite having a Pashtun president in power in Afghanistan and Pakistani establishment claims of having forged closer ties with the Pashtun population of Afghanistan, ties between Kabul and Islamabad have not moved forward given the historic burden of Pakistan’s deep involvement in Afghanistan. Pakistan seems to trust only the regressive and fundamental forces of the Taliban.
Pakistan is bent on making sure that Afghans do not become "India friendly" !
Regionally Iran, India, and Afghanistan have recently signed a historic deal to develop the strategic port of Chabahar in Iran and agreed on a three-nation pact to build a transport-and-trade corridor through Afghanistan that will not only help strengthen regional connectivity by boosting economic growth in the region, but also reduce the time and cost of doing business with both Central Asia and Europe.
Pakistan’s suspicion of India threatens to entrench conflict and competition at the expense of cooperation and stability with all its neighbors. The knee-jerk reaction of the Pakistan foreign policy establishment to the Chabahar agreement was to close down the Torkham border with Afghanistan and enforce restrictive visa requirements for both sides of the Durand Line, leaving ordinary people as the victims on both sides.
Many speculate that the tightening security at Torkham border is a political move rather than one to curb militant activities, as the Pakistani government claims. After all, if the likes of Mullah Mansoor are found with Pakistani passports traveling in and out of the country with more ease than a genuine Pakistani passport holder, what message does that send to Afghanistan?
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s obsession with India has strained its western border, negatively affecting its own Pashtun population on its side of Durand Line, mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Movement across the Afghan-Pakistani border generates revenue for both countries, who also exchange goods and services worth some 2.7 billion euros ($3 billion) annually across their border. Despite the illegal trade and smuggling, the two countries benefit a great deal from free cross-border movement.
Slowly and surely, it is alienating its own Pashtun population and creating a fifth column group for the future!
Pakistani policymakers interpret shifting of hostilities on the western border as being in the broader national interest of Pakistan—tragedies like the December 2014 Army public school attack, where 140 children were mercilessly killed, or the more recent massacre at Bacha Khan University are regarded effectively as collateral damage in the name of protecting core national interests and for Pakistan’s Punjab-based elite.
The "glue" of Malsi is not going to work this time !
Pakistan’s policies have above all pushed it into regional and international isolation. As India’s power in Afghanistan expands—especially its soft power—Pakistan is losing its position of economic and strategic privilege. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India came to power, he has visited Afghanistan twice on very important occasions. On his very first visit, he inaugurated the new Afghan parliament building that was built with the support of Indian government. On his second visit, on June 4, he inaugurated the $290 million Salma Dam, one of the country’s biggest hydroelectric power projects, also funded by India. Pakistan, on the other hand, has been dealing with the embarrassment of denying its support for the Haqqani Network and the Taliban-led insurgency after the group’s former chief, Mullah Mansoor, was killed in a U.S. drone attack on its soil.
Pakistan’s powerful military elite needs to bury the bogeymen of the Cold War and begin to understand the complexity of relations between Islamabad and Kabul. To date, Pakistan has absolutely failed to keep robust relations with its all neighbors—it has failed to sustain good relations with Afghanistan, India and Iran. This indicates the failure of Pakistani foreign policy more broadly in the region, which has resulted in Islamabad remaining isolated. This cannot be in Pakistan’s long-term national interest.
The Durand Line as a border is much less relevant to the people than to the state. Poverty, poor infrastructure, healthcare, and other important state functions tend to be precarious on both sides and the weak presence of the state particularly has left the local people to provide for their own needs on both sides of this porous border. Pakistan’s approach toward its national security and its India-centric security policy needs to be cast aside while realizing that hostile relations with Afghanistan are not something they can afford to sustain in the light of the country’s growing regional isolation. Selling the idea of China and CPEC might work for the pacification of its eastern border, but this approach will fail to the west, where Afghanistan presents a unique set of dynamics.

Pak Army's Media Wing - ISPR - Should Also Be Regulated by PEMRA - Asma Jehangir
How Pakistan's military uses media for image making
Activists accuse the Pakistani military of pressuring journalists into toeing its line - portraying the army as "savior" and the politicians as corrupt. DW analyzes the army's expanding media activities.
Prominent Pakistani rights activist Asma Jahangir has raised some pertinent questions about the role of the Pakistani military's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department. The veteran activist believes that like all other media-related organizations, the ISPR should also be regulated by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), a civilian-controlled government body.Pemra, however, has no control over the powerful army's media activities.
IMO, PEMRA does not want to touch the ISPR with a ten foot pole
On Wednesday, June 15, Jahangir appeared before a two-judge Supreme Court bench, requesting the court to investigate under which law the army's media cell was operating."We have been talking a lot about the civilian government, but the media cell of the [army] should also be monitored," Jahangir was quoted as saying by the local Dawn newspaper.
Jahangir accused the army of running a smear campaign against politicians and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in an attempt to weaken his government so that the military keeps an upper hand over the civilian administration.Activists blame the army's expanding role for the muzzling of free speech in Pakistan,...
In fact, the military's media activities have increased manifold over the past few years. The ISPR now regularly tweets and sends out press releases to spread a positive image of the military. From the operation "Zarb-i-Azb" against the Taliban to the army-led development projects in the country, the military's media team is busy promoting the armed forces as a "savior" of the Islamic nation.
Not to forget the glorification of Raheel and the orchestrated campaign for his extension/promotion !
But what worries the activists, and which Jahangir also pointed out, is that the army's media wing deliberately and systematically shows the civilian government and politicians in a bad light, thus undermining their credibility and legitimacy as constitutional rulers of the country. The military officials, however, deny these accusations."There is not much truth about the independence of media in Pakistan," a veteran Pakistani journalist said on condition of anonymity on the sidelines of DW's Global Media Forum in Bonn, which ended on June 15. The gathering of international journalists focused on the issue of media freedom and values.
They also back and promote a number of security analysts and political commentators that toe the military's line, he claimed."These 'analysts' have only one mission: portray PM Sharif and his government as incompetent, corrupt and disgraceful, and present the army as a sort of a mesiah."One of the examples of the military "campaign" is gigantic "Thank you, General Raheel Sharif" posters that one can see in all major cities of the South Asian country. Supporters of the army chief Raheel Sharif have also set up large billboards in most metropolises, heaping lavish praise on the military general for "liberating the country from terrorists and criminals."
The "Glorification of Raheel" campaign
"A critical first step must be for Pakistan to investigate its own military and intelligence agencies and ensure that those responsible for human rights violations against journalists are brought to justice. This will send a powerful signal to those who target journalists that they no longer have a free reign," David Griffiths, Amnesty International's deputy Asia Pacific director, told DW.
Nasir Tufail, a Karachi-based Geo TV journalist, says the most perilous issue for a Pakistani journalist is to report on terrorism and Islamism, and that the reporters who are working on these issues have to be very careful. It leads to self-censorship, he says.
If you don't censor yourself you are likely to become another "Hamid Mir"
"We highlighted the issue of Balochistan for several months. We tried to analyze it in a serious manner. But the issue is very sensitive for the security agencies, hence journalists are afraid to cover it," Tufail added.
Generally, however, experts agree that the Pakistani media enjoy a great amount of freedom to criticize the government, politicians, the military and its ubiquitous intelligence agencies, including the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), in such a way that would have been unimaginable just a decade ago. However, this freedom has been accompanied by some insecurity as there are state and non-state elements who do not favor press freedom.

No the F-22 did not even realize what was happening - so stealthy is the Bunder.

Pak Soldier Attacks Indian Soldier During Wagah Border Retreat; Gets Slapped Thrice
http://jagrukbharat.com/5153/pak-soldie ... ed-thrice/
The Wagah Border ceremony is one where the two neighboring nations of India and Pakistan show their power and strength. Recently, a Pakistani soldier behaved very cheaply at ceremony and attacked an Indian soldier. The Indian soldier in turn slapped the Pakistani soldier over three times before both sides separated them and stopped the fight.

The CPEC and the NSG
http://nation.com.pk/columns/17-Jun-201 ... nd-the-nsg
( Uttarrti Jaye Hai Paki Salwar, Ahista, Aaahista)
In this context, the pro-India nature of the Kabul regime becomes more understandable, as it shows that the major geopolitical impact of the US invasion there was to convert a relatively pro-Pakistan regime into a pro-Indian one. This alone should have convinced Pakistan that the USA was veering around to an alliance with India.
The Pakistani leadership thinks it has the option of turning to China, but it has not thought through the consequences of China and India settling their differences. A decision point is approaching, in the shape of the ageing of the Dalai Lama, who will be 81 in July, and who has been the symbol of opposition to China since he fled it in 1959, after which he formed a government in exile in India. At the moment, India and China have their opposition to each other locked in place because of him. However, after him, everything will be up for grabs. As the Dalai Lama is succeeded only by a reincarnation, there is room for manipulation. Another office filled by reincarnation, the Panchen Lama, now has two claimants, respectively recognised by the Chinese government and the Dali Lama’s followers.Pakistan thinks that the other symbol of Pak-China friendship, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, is a sort of cash cow, whereby the Pakistani government gets its hands on Chinese money. At the moment, the USA has not got any such project planned, which would cause the USA to gift India cash. The Chinese New Silk Road project has an Indian component, and may well provide the path for a convergence of Chinese and Indian economic interests. That is another point at which Pakistan might find itself ditched.

One way of avoiding this would be for Pakistan to re-orient itself, abandon the Kashmir cause, and follow only economic interests. It might have to go an extra mile, and accept Indian hegemony, of the sort it exerts over Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and is preparing to exert over Afghanistan. The BJP government is accused of a jingoistic nationalism, but in that it is no different from Congress. The only difference is that the BJP does not have the socialist veneer that Congress had because of Jawaharlal Nehru. Instead of socialism, it has Hindu chauvinism, combined with a rampant capitalism. It is no wonder that it is so popular among the Indians in the USA. Because of this popularity, and the need of US politicians to court the Indian vote, Indian governments, whether BJP or Congress, get favourable treatment from the USA. Pakistan, on the other hand, despite its constant kowtowing, is seen in Washington through Indian eyes.Pakistan’s policymakers should understand that not only is the policy of looking to the USA unfruitful, but so is the fallback position of looking to China. There seems no alternative to the solution of Pakistan’s problems than to think out of the box, and opt for solutions involving the rest of the Islamic world.

Afghan border will be fenced off: Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday announced that the border with Afghanistan would be fenced off and more gates constructed and said the small incidents which occurred during border tension should not be named war.
In the weekly press briefing here, the Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said border management was part of Pakistan’s strategy to counter terrorism.“Other than Torkham, gates would also be installed at other border crossings and there would be no going back in this regard,” Zakaria said.
The Paki "Effo" spokesman is blowing hot and cold at the same time !Someone should remind him re: history of Durand Line
He said in future there should be no communication gap between Islamabad and Afghanistan and all issues should be resolved through dialogue, especially since the Afghans were being misguided.
Without naming those behind misguiding the Afghans, the spokesman said: “Afghans are being misguided by those not interested to see peace in Afghanistan. We have a very special relationship with Afghanistan and we want to resolve all our issues through dialogue. The objective of this dialogue is that there should be no communication gap in future.”
As more and more voices are being raised that the government has to take the return of millions of Afghan refugees to their homes seriously, the spokesman said the number of Afghans who sought refuge in Pakistan was much higher and initially they were six million.
“We have been hosting an unprecedented number of refugees for over 35 years. Unfortunately, the Afghan people have suffered for so long. It is Pakistan’s earnest desire to see peace in that country so that the Afghans, including the refugees, live in peace. It is time for Afghanistan and international community to take steps to repatriate these refugees in a dignified manner.” :((
To a query about the recent statements coming from New Delhi about the Pathankot terrorist attack, the spokesman said India had stated that they could not find any involvement of the Pakistani government but fingers were being pointed at certain ‘groups’ inside Pakistan.
Agencies add: Meanwhile, the United States Thursday expressed concern over recent clashes at the Torkham crossing point between Afghanistan and Pakistan.During a press briefing here, State Department spokesman John Kirby said they had received reports that casualties had been taken on both sides.
“We’re also concerned about reports of presence of heavy weapons at the border,” he added.John Kirby said the US continues to encourage the governments of both Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their disagreements at the crossing point and to de-escalate tensions. “As we’ve said many times, we think good relations between the two countries are key to the stability to the region,” he said.

Pathankot fallout? In 5 months, over 50% visa applications of Pakistanis rejected by MHA - Rahul Tripathi, Economic Times
A sharp decline has been registered in grant of visas to Pakistani nationals that may further result in souring of ties between India and Pakistan. More than 50% of visa applications have been rejected by the union home ministry from January to May this year, said officials.

The issue was also raised by Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, Gautam Bambawale during his recent meeting with union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi at New Delhi. According to the government data, 35,021 nationals from Pakistan applied for visa from January 1 to May 31 this year out of which 17,481 were given visas while 17,540 cases were rejected.

In 2015, only 8,800 cases were rejected while more than 31,000 visas were granted out of 39,800 applications received at the Indian high commission at Islamabad from January 1 to May 31, 2015. The number of Pak national who were given visas in 2014 were more than 39,000 out of 47,000 application in 2014 from January to May, said officials, adding that the drastic reduction in grant of visa may have been because of stringent security measures adopted by the agencies.

A senior government official told ET that after the launch of electronic tourist visa, they are trying to process the applications at a faster rate that may have resulted in such large number of rejections.

"In case of Pakistan, due to lengthy process of verification and cross verification, it takes several months before a visa is granted or denied. The delay is largely on the part of other agencies including Intelligence Bureau (IB) who rely on the feedback from State agencies in applications outside Delhi." explained a senior official on the condition of anonymity.

The Damage Is Done ! Damage Control Not Possible
It may be too late for Pakistan to hire lobbyists in Washington

Firstly- Does Pakistan have "the money" to pay the lobbyists, who in turn will "wine and dine" (or "bribe") the US Lawmakers to change their opinion about this "most unreliable all-lie ", so Pakistan can get more "goodies" from Massa

Secondly- No respectable Lobbying Firm is going to touch this "account" with a ten foot pole unless (a) assured payment is assured in advance (b) extra premium is paid due to the "difficulty of the account "
Relations between Pakistan and the United States have historically been a roller coaster ride, but the whole affair seems to have lately become more rickety and rough than the earlier phase.
The row – sparked by the Congress, which scuttled the F-16 fighter sale deal, and the killing of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor in last month’s drone attack – has ushered in a new low in bilateral ties, which might be well here to stay at least till the new administration takes charge in Washington.
This was evident during last week’s visit by the US delegation comprising Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Amb Richard Olson, Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan at National Security Council Dr Peter Lavoy and top US/NATO Commander in Afghanistan Gen John Nicholson. The delegation’s discussions at the Foreign Office and GHQ were characterized as “candid and frank”, but yielded little in terms of finding the way out of the bad patch in the relationship. The trip was, nevertheless, symbolic in terms of signaling US commitment to remaining engaged with Pakistan despite the difficulties.
A senior official, who has remained part of the bilateral dialogue over the past couple of years, candidly admitted in a background discussion that the Pakistani mistake was to create unrealistic expectations, which have now transformed into frustration on the American side. This, he believed, was exploited by the Indians and Afghans to widen the misunderstandings between Pakistan and the United States.
Difficult to fool all the people, all of the time !
It may probably be too late for the Pakistani government to consider hiring lobbyists on Afghanistan. The damage has already been done. More importantly, image building and improvement in ties with the Congress – the two objectives stated by Aziz for hiring lobbyist firms – may not be easy to achieve unless course correction happens here in Islamabad, and we stop thinking it is in US interest that Pakistan and Afghanistan stop becoming safe havens for global terrorists.
It is incorrect to lump Afghanistan in the same category! Pakistan is terrorism central, as the world knows!!

According to Hajam Sethi's Friday Times, Dus Percenti is being advised not to consider returning back to Pakiland :
Return of the prodigal
Our mole says the late, lamented Big Ben’s Hubby is planning to return to the Land of The Pure next month. Hubby departed hastily when the Lone Rangers went on a law-enforcing spree and picked up a close buddy of his, who’s still in the slammer. The case against the buddy is, amongst other things, of aiding and abetting the now out-of-favour Quaid-e-Qiwam. Lest we forget, millions of dollars worth of arms (some say as much as USD 32 million) were imported into the city by the sea in the last year of Mush’s reign. The accusation is that they were imported into the city via Hubby’s buddy – but then, as in the case of the Father of Our Bum, is he just the fall guy?Hubby’s connected friends are advising him to stay put, and not to return. They’ve told him that he and his sibling might end up in the slammer too.

when applied to pakistan, this provides all answers about that country one needs to know.

If Trump does not win the presidency, his campaign chief, Paul Manafort, will no doubt be available for Pakistani hire. After all, Manafort lobbied from 1990 to 1995 for the Kashmiri American Council, Ghulam Nabi Fai's front for the ISI.

Pakistan Is Now Happy That Massa Legislators Did Not Reduce Its Annual (Welfare ) Dole From 900 Million Dollars To 700 Million Dollars

US House of Rep. rejects Hindu  Congresswoman move of cut in CSF for Pakistan
During debate on the bill, Congressman Ted Poe of Texas and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a Hindu American from Hawaii moved an amendment to cut CSF for Pakistan from $ 900 million to $ 700 million.
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher’s amendment called for cutting all Coalition Support Fund for Pakistan, saying that detention of Dr. Shakil Afridi was evidence that Pakistan was not a sincere partner of the United States. Congressman Poe called for cutting CSF by $ 200 accusing Pakistan of supporting the Taliban.
The US Senate has also moved a proposal for $800 million fund for enhancing Pakistan’s counter terrorism capacity. There was no amendment in the US senate against the proposal
Thank Allah for small mercies; lobby monies saved !

Pakistan's (financial) fate is going to be decided by this "annual exercise" which is performed by the US Legislature every year without fail !

Oh, so India not giving visas to Pakis is what will cause India-Pak ties to sour. Silly me, I was thinking it was the wanton killing of Indians by Pakistanis that was causing the same. How dumb of me! :((

SSridhar Ji :

India - IMO - must take advantage of the Afghanistan / Cwapistan Discord and have - as good as possible - a Border Fence/Wall as well as reduce issuing India Visit Visas to the Mango Cwapistanis along with NO VISAS FOR Cwapistani Artists or Movie Stars. In fact no more scholarships to their students or Medical Treatment-Operations.

The very idea that India will benefit from P2P Contacts with Cwapistan is baseless to say the least.

"Lets Get Some Used F-16 From Jordon" Plan May Not See Fruition

Pakistan’s bid to buy F-16s from Jordan may require US approval
Hindustan Times
Pakistan’s bid to purchase used F-16 fighter jets from Jordan might not be easy as it would require an approval from the US and be subject to end-use monitoring, officials in Washington have said.
So, Pakistan should be "well advised" to be on the good side of Massa. ie do their bidding without stabbing them in the back !
“While we are not going to speculate on reports that Pakistan may look to purchase used F-16s elsewhere, we would note that under US law, any re-transfers of US-origin defence items to a third party require approval from the US Government, may require Congressional notification, and would be subject to end-use monitoring,” said a State Department official. The official, who requested anonymity, was responding to a question on reports that Pakistan is considering buying used F-16 jets from Jordan after its plan to buy eight of them from the US at a highly subsidised rates fell through because of the opposition from lawmakers in the US Congress who want Islamabad to take strong action against the Haqqani network.
This is where the services of a good lobbyist would have made a difference; but right now, with a track record like Pakistan's which lobbyist would like to "stick his neck out" for such an unreliable client.
“The proposed terms and conditions of the Letter of Offer and Acceptance for this proposed sale of F-16 aircraft expired on May 24,” the official said.“Pakistan did not accept the offer to purchase F-16s from the United States, and the terms of the sale have expired,” another State Department official told PTI.
“We are now going for a third-party transfer of F-16s and have an offer from Jordan,” Pakistan Defence Secretary Alam Khattak had said last week.
As a last resort, Pakis can ask one of their "fourfathers",- Saudi Arabia - who at one time, had "enormous clout ", to do some lobbying on their behalf in DC. After all, it was Prince Bandar, when he was in Washington, who intervened on behalf of Ganja, and saved him from the gallows, when his goose was cooked by Mushy !
We refer you to the Government of Pakistan to speak to their decision and future defence procurement plans,” the US official said when asked about Khattak’s statement. The official was not aware if the US has received such a request from Jordan and Pakistan. However, it is believed that there could be options for Pakistan to explore the possibility of procuring F-16 from the United States at its full price.
Message: You do our bidding in Afghanistan and we will take care of you (financially)
nformed sources argue that if Pakistan wants to pursue the sale, it could start a fresh talk with Lockheed Martin – the manufacturer – and negotiate a new full price for the F-16s it wants to buy.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Foreign Office is making a big deal that a bouncer at the gay club in Orlando in the US which was shot up in a Mohammadden Terrorist act and who helped save many was a Mohammadden on the basis of his name being Imran Yousuf. Problem is however the bouncer despite his name is a Hindu.

Claim of bouncer Imran Yousuf being Hindu being put forward by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria:
This guy saved 70 people in Orlando shootings. His name is Imran Yousuf ………..

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria also drew attention towards the Muslim ex-marine who saved the lives of tens of people inside the club.

“We need to reflect on these kind of acts also which Muslims are performing over there and the contributions Muslims have made over there,” Zakaria emphasised.

ET
CBS News which broke the story on the bouncer was quite explicit in saying the bouncer Imran Yousuf is Hindu:
Yousuf, a 24-year-old Hindu, served as a U.S. Marine in Afghanistan

More details here from India West based on information from the bouncer Imran Yousuf’s Aunt:
The Yousufs emigrated from India to Guyana four generations ago. Imran Yousuf’s paternal grandfather is Muslim, and his grandmother is Hindu, so his father Rasheed is a mix of both ethnicities.

Yousuf’s mother Norma is Hindu, and Imran Yousuf identifies as a Hindu, said Christina Yousuf.
