We remember the case of Mur-Tea and other "top IT honchos" pressuring GoI to not escalate because they would lose revenue.
Were "Mur-tea" and other "top IT honchos" involved in trade/partnership with Pakistan ?

Were they generating revenues for the Pakis ?

Return home, we will ensure your safety, Hizbul Mujahideen tells Kashmiri Pandits

SRINGAR: Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has asked migrant Kashmiri Pandits, who were forced to flee the Valley in early 1990 after the eruption of militancy, to return to their homes, assuring protection to them, and also said it was planning to raise a group of Sikh youths.

"We request Kashmiri Pandits to return to their homes. We take responsibility of their safety," Zakir Rashid Bhat alias 'Musa', the self-styled commander of the militant outfit, said in a brief video message released yesterday.

Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee the Valley after they were targeted by militant groups during the outbreak of militancy and have been living in Jammu and other parts of the country.

"They should look at those Pandits who never left Kashmir. Who has harassed or killed them?" asked slain militant Burhan Wani's 'successor'.

Dressed in military camouflage and fiddling with a grenade in the video, Bhat, who dropped out of engineering course from a Punjab college and joined Hizbul Mujahideen some years back, also gave a bizzare argument that Pandits were forced out of the Valley under a planned strategy to target Muslims.

He claimed that the government was planning to take action in the Valley in an operation similar to 'Operation Blue Star' in Punjab.

Bhat revealed in the 1.38 minute video that the militant was planning to raise an exclusive group of Sikh youths in the outfit.

"Our Sikh brothers are requesting us to join Hizbul Mujahideen...We are with them on every front and God willing, we will try and make an exclusive group for Sikhs in the outfit,"
he said.

About the latest trend of weapon snatching in the Valley, especially in south Kashmir districts, he said, "Many youths have taken to Jihad, snatched the weapons and joined our ranks."

Two green banners with religious slogans and as many weapons on both sides behind him could also been seen in the video which was shot at an unknown location.

South Kashmir witnessed a spurt in weapon snatching incidents over the past three months of unrest which was triggered by the killing of Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.

The unrest has so far claimed 84 lives and injured thousands of others.

SHC orders to shutdown liquor shops
From "THE NATION "
October 18, 2016, 7:11 pm
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court on Tuesday ordered the provincial government to immediately shutdown all liquor shops operating in the province.
Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, who headed a division bench heard a petition seeking cancellation of the license of a liquor shop being operated in Karachi.DG-excise told the court earlier today that 120 wine shops in Karachi had been issued with licenses, with 24 licenses issued in District South alone. The court asked the official why the liquor shops were operating throughout the year despite being allowed to sell liquor only during festivals of minorities. The court further said that it suspects the shops were selling wine to other people as well while using the minorities as an excuse.
The court has asked for a report to be submitted within two days on the licensing details of liquor shops across the province.Previously, the SHC had directed provincial authorities to disclose what criterion is used for issuing licenses to liquor shops. The court had also directed the provincial election commission to submit details of Muslims and minorities in the city’s posh neighborhoods where eleven liquor shops are being run.The petitioner stated the open selling of liquor would create chaos as the majority of the people living in the locality are Muslims.
As if this edict by itself is going to make this "artificial entity" more Islamic !!!

Immy Satire !

[SATIRE] Nawab Khan receives a visit from Chinese Viceroy
Nawab Imran Khan’s declared plan to shut down the capital unless his demands are met has been responded with severe displeasure by the Board of the Chinese-Pakistan Economic Company (CPEC). On Tuesday, that displeasure was demonstrated in a rare visit from Chinese Viceroy Sun Weidong at Khan’s Bani Gala palace.
The Chinese Viceroy left no room for misinterpretation as he explained that the Board of CPEC would not allow their investment of tens of billions to be threatened by the antics of a minor provincial chief. With a deeply bowed head, Nawab Khan apologised for the misunderstanding and assured the Chinese official that it was all just a bit of fun and “its planned siege of the city was not meant to derail the present government, the system or create chaos in the country.” While some peasants may be thrashed as part of the drama, the Nawab promised the Viceroy “there would absolutely be no threat to the diplomatic corps.”
Having given his assurance that next month’s protest was never intended to be more than a cheap stage drama, Nawab Kahn stood outside his palace and watched the Viceroy’s caravan drive away. “Sir,” his Secretary Shah Mehmood Qureshi began to say. “Shut up!” responded the Nawab. “Get out! All of you get out!”
Yes, my Lord,” they whispered and left Khan standing alone on the front steps as a light rain began to fall. As they sat drinking tea in silence, they could hear the Nawab unleash a tirade of obscenities in the distance. Qureshi looked up at his colleague Shireen Mazari who met his eye with a mischievous grin.
Needed next - A satire on his amorous exploits !!

Pemra enforces blanket ban on Indian content in Pakistan
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Wednesday approved a complete ban on airing of Indian content in Pakistan from October 21, said a statement released by the regulatory authority. The decision was taken in the 120th meeting of the authority held today in the federal capital. The federal government had earlier suggested banning airing of Indian content in a tit-for-tat move after Pakistani content was completely banned by India. The ban will come into effect at 3pm on October 21, and violators will be prosecuted under law, said the statement.
Where "Echendee" is involved, no effort will be spared to do an = =
The ban extends to all Indian content on cable and radio being aired in the country.
"Pemra, with the authority vested by the federal government, today announces the cancellation of the one-sided rights given to India by the Pervez Musharraf government," said the Pemra statement.Earlier in October, Pemra granted Absar Alam the authority to revoke or suspend licences of companies airing Indian content without providing prior notice. On Aug 31, Pemra had announced that strict action would be taken against the channels airing foreign content more than the prescribed limit and traders selling illegal DTH sets.
Hopefully, by this "timely action" Paki H&D will be salvaged !!

"Chikna Paki Chaiwala " Lands His First Real (Fashion Model ) Job !

The chaiwala who went viral just landed his first fashion job
Pakistan's chai-making sensation has a name, people. It's Arshad Khan. And we're likely to get to know him better because he's on his way to possible stardom.Retail site fitin.pk has signed on Arshad as a model — for an undisclosed amount. His first shoot is already out.
Initially, Arshad tried to drive away the media. His friends asked for huge sums of money —20 lacs from Dawn TV and 50 lacs from Geo TV — to deter reporters from approaching him.
His mamoo agrees, saying that if Arshad gets any film or modelling offers, he will fully support him and stand by his side.
Hope the Modelling Agency, has done a "good" police/ security check on him, before offering him a job ! In Pakiland, you don't judge a "book by it's cover" !

" Fantastic Claims " Resurface Again !

Indian, Afghan spy agencies preparing militant groups to sabotage CPEC: IB
ISLAMABAD:
A top civilian intelligence agency has revealed before a parliamentary panel that Indian and Afghan spy agencies are preparing certain militant groups to damage the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.“The East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) are some of the potential threats to CPEC, as the former is directed towards China which is a prime stakeholder in the project,” Intelligence Bureau (IB) Deputy Director General Ali Ahmed Sabir told the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday.
This is the first time that a state agency has publicly talked about the nexus of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) to sabotage CPEC.Senator Talha Mehmood was chairing the Senate panel meeting, which was briefed by IB officials on their role on provision of security to CPEC projects in Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan.IB’s Director General Aftab Sultan said they had shortage of manpower and could not focus on every project of CPEC. However, he said, all-out efforts were being made for CPEC’s security and the agency had been keeping a sharp eye out for subversive or suspicious activities.
Senator Mehmood asked the officials as to why RAW was not being exposed despite that it destroyed the lives, economy and law and order of the country.“You need to expose RAW, whose spies are being arrested and shame them and tell the world what they are doing in Pakistan,” Mehmood said in reference to Kulbhushan Yadav, a serving Naval officer and Indian spy who was arrested from Balochistan in March this year.Sabir said RAW was pulling strings of militants from Afghanistan and so far about 865 people had been arrested. These people belonged to different local militant groups of country with connection to the said spy agencies.“These are not our people. Look at Yadav and India blamed us for the Uri attack within 12 hours,” he said, adding that they could make mountain out of a molehill but ‘we cannot expose them despite having factual evidence’. The IB chief said after getting information about such spies the agency closes such cases due to their sensitivity. The chairperson demanded to provide him the lists of such people, adding that he would expose all of them on media so that the world may know. “Why we just close such files and do not talk about people who are damaging our country and its reputation?” he asked.
The 45.69 Billion Dollar question is (a) will the Chinese Viceroy (aka Ambassador ) buy this version (b) or it is another excuse to pump up the Fauji budget . Remains to be seen !

OIC foreign ministers’ mootra: India slammed for water aggression
SLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday strongly denounced India for threatening to use water as weapon, saying it is a ‘flagrant violation’ of Delhi’s international treaty obligations.“Such an action could only be contemplated by an irresponsible state,” said Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi while leading Pakistan’s delegation to the meeting of the foreign ministers of OIC member states in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.Fatemi accused India of pursuing a policy of destabilisation in its neighbours and strongly condemned the state-terrorism it has let loose in Occupied Kashmir, a Foreign Office statement said. He called for a fair, independent and transparent inquiry into grave human rights violations by Indian security forces in the occupied territory and urged the international community to reject Delhi’s claim that Kashmir is an integral part of India.Calling the claim as ‘ridiculous’, Fatemi pointed out that Jammu and Kashmir dispute is recognised by the UN as an international dispute between two sovereign member-states. He called upon the Muslim Ummah to continue its support for the Kashmiris in their just struggle for the right of self-determination.Meanwhile, FO said Pakistan-Italy Political Bilateral Consultations were held in Islamabad on Tuesday. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry led the Pakistani delegation while the Italian side was led by Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, secretary general of Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.Acknowledging the deepening defence ties they agreed to further strengthen cooperation in this area. A wide range of regional and multilateral issues were also discussed. The Italian side was apprised about the recent developments in the region, including the current situation in the IOK and the massive human rights violations that were being committed by the Indian security forces. The two sides expressed satisfaction at the close cooperation between Pakistan and Italy at various multilateral fora, including the UN, and agreed to intensify this cooperation. These annual consultations, at the foreign secretary level, are part of the institutional mechanism established under the Pakistan-Italy Enhanced Strategic Engagement Plan concluded in 2013.

China corridor to spark outflows from Pak: IMF

NEW DELHI: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that Pakistan will need to manage rising outflows related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in the years ahead and suggested that its government undertake reforms that support growth and exports to generate adequate resources for meeting payment obligations.

The China-funded CPEC is estimated to cost $44.5 billion — around 16% of Pakistan's GDP last fiscal — of which $28 billion is allocated to "early harvest" infrastructure projects. The government will execute projects to the tune of $10 billion through the regular development spending envelope and the remaining $18 billion will be funded via foreign direct investment.

In the energy sector, power plants will be funded through FDI by Chinese firms with commercial loans from Chinese banks. These firms will operate as independent power producers (IPPs) with electricity sales guaranteed through pre-negotiated power purchase pacts, including guaranteed tariffs. In the transport sector, financing will be provided by the Chinese government and state banks as concessional loans.

While there will be a surge in FDI during the investment phase of the early harvest project, there will also be forex outflow to purchase equipment. "If implemented as envisaged, the CPEC could go a long way towards alleviating Pakistan's long-standing supply-side bottlenecks and lifting its long-term potential output," the IMF said adding that this will reduce power shortage and boost economic activity. Similarly the transport projects would allow easier and lower-cost access to markets and boost exports.

But there is a flip side, the IMF warned. "Pakistan will need to manage increasing outflows. As Chinese IPPs start their operations, profit repatriation by these firms would begin to rise in subsequent years... these outflows could reach about 0.4% of GDP per year over the longer run," it cautioned.

Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan-13 June,2016

External debt: In three years, Pakistan has taken on $25b in fresh loans
ISLAMABAD: In its three-year stint, the PML-N government has obtained $25 billion as fresh foreign loans in addition to borrowing Rs3.1 trillion ($30 billion) from the domestic market for budget financing, said Ehtesham Rashid, Director General of the Debt Office at the Ministry of Finance Wednesday.
In dollar terms, the government’s total domestic and foreign borrowings amounted to $55 billion during the last three years. However, the impact of domestic borrowing is not as adverse as that of foreign borrowings due to the liberty of printing rupee amid inflation that remains under control.
Out of the $25 billion in foreign loans the government has obtained from June 2013 to June 2016, an amount of $11.95 billion was spent in repayment of previous loans, said Rashid.
[There was a net addition of $5.6 billion in the country’s external debt during the last fiscal year 2015-16, showing a growth of 28.2% over the increase in foreign debt in 2014-15, according to the Finance Ministry. Similarly, in 2014-15, the net increase in debt was $4.42 billion, higher by 53% over the increase reported in the preceding year. During the last three years, the government paid $2.74 billion in interest on foreign loans./quote]
Out of $25 billion foreign loans, an amount of $1.85 billion was borrowed from commercial banks without competitive bidding, raising transparency concerns. While citing the work done by Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Chairman Standing Committee, questioned that whether the Finance Ministry was secretly borrowing from foreign sources.
However, the debt office DG maintained that the government was not secretly borrowing from abroad.
The government borrowed $3.5 billion by issuing bonds in the international debt markets during the last three years, excluding the last Sukuk bond worth $1 billion that was issued this month. It obtained $9.7 billion in loans from multilateral banks including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank and $3.6 billion from bilateral countries. An amount of $6.2 billion of the IMF borrowings was also part of fresh debt.
The situation on the domestic front is also not different. Rashid said that during last three years, the government obtained Rs3.114 trillion in fresh loans.
Pakistan’s total debt and liabilities stood at Rs22.4 trillion as of June this year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan.

Russia Not Holding Talks With Pakistan on Supply of Su-35 Jets – Official
A few days earlier (Oct 16, 2016) there was the below interview of CEO of ROSTEC, Sergey Chemezov, by the Hindu’s Suhasini Haider which had also indicated that Russia was not negotiating with the Mohammadden Terrorism fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the supply of the Su-35:
How about the new ties with Pakistan, including delivery of helicopters, and the recent military exercises? Do you plan any military sales to Pakistan, given a Russian delegation attended the Karachi DefExpo for the first time?

Our relationship with Pakistan has existed in the past as well, and while you can see areas where it has broadened, but not significantly. The military exercises in September this year were directly connected with modernising counter terror operations in Pakistan. ISIS is a global danger and doesn’t just involve terrorists in the Middle East but also in India and Pakistan. Therefore joint military exercises are important, but it must be noted that were not in any way targeted at India or at any other conflict in the region.

And military sales, given reports Russia may consider selling Su-35s in the future?

We are not delivering any military aircraft to Pakistan. We have made deliveries of transport helicopters and that contract has been completed. No contracts or plans for any other military-related equipment to Pakistan exist for present.
So much for talk in July 2016 by Mohammadden Terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Qazi Khalilullah that Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force Sohail Aman had "fruitful talks" in Moscow in July on purchasing of Russian Su-35  :

arun, I would not be so sanguine about denials etc. Russia, even if not propelled by any other motive, is in dire economic stress. Besides, China may positively influence Russian positions.

The only saving grace is, unlike the US, Russia cannot sell any weapon for free or without hard cash. No concessions there. This may put Russian purchases out of bound for Pakistan.

Sharif versus Sharif: The end game - G.Parthasarathy, Business Line
Relations between Pakistan’s elected government and the country’s all-powerful military establishment become tense and coup-prone whenever Nawaz Sharif is elected as prime minister. This is ironic since Sharif entered politics with the blessings of the military, in the early 1980s.

The then military dictator, General Zia-ul-Haq, had sought the support of Nawaz’s father, the industrialist and steel magnate, Mian Mohamed Sharif, to contribute to the establishment of a new Muslim League Party.

Gen Zia’s military governor in Lahore, Lt-Gen Ghulam Gilani Khan, duly provided the support for Nawaz’s meteoric rise in politics. It was the backing of the military and the ISI chief, Lt-Gen Asad Durrani, that enabled Sharif to cobble together an alliance of Islamist parties, to prevail over Benazir Bhutto’s Peoples’ Party in 1992.

Tumultuous relationship

Sharif’s whimsical and authoritarian functioning thereafter led to serious differences with President Ghulam Ishaq Khan. Khan was infuriated by the involvement of Sharif and his handpicked ISI chief, Lt-Gen Javed Nasir, in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. In the meantime, Sharif had developed an acrimonious relationship with his army chief, Gen Asif Nawaz, whose sudden death, attributed to arsenic poisoning, led to suspicions of Sharif’s involvement.

Sharif was sacked by President Ishaq Khan, but briefly restored to office by the Supreme Court. Shortly thereafter, the army chief, Gen Waheed Kakkar, forced both Sharif and Khan out of office.

Sharif’s relationship with the army was equally stormy in his second term. He peremptorily sacked his highly respected and apolitical army chief, Gen Jehangir Karamat. He was then ousted, jailed and exiled by Karamat’s successor, Pervez Musharraf, following differences over who was responsible for the Kargil fiasco.

Sharif’s relations with the army have been no less tumultuous in his term. As in the case of his appointment of Musharraf, Sharif erred in his appointment of Raheel Sharif as army chief. He ignored the fact that Raheel was a protégé of Musharraf, who would challenge the prime minister’s efforts to have Musharraf tried for treason.

Raheel Sharif predictably warned not only Nawaz, but also the Supreme Court, to back off from efforts to arrest and imprison Musharraf.

His success in this effort only whetted Raheel’s appetite for taking control of foreign policy, particularly relations with India, Afghanistan and even the US. China duly played on the general’s huge ego by suggesting that it was the Pakistan army alone that could provide security for its $46-billion ‘One Belt One Road’ project.

The Raheel factor

Over the past three years, Raheel Sharif has taken over control of Pakistan’s foreign policy and the country’s internal security. He undermined the successful meeting that Nawaz had with Narendra Modi in Ufa by not permitting his DGMO to meet his Indian counterpart. He then undermined any chance of a rapprochement with India by the attack on the Pathankot air base just after Modi had extended a hand of friendship by visiting Lahore during the wedding of Sharif’s daughter.

Gen Sharif has taken over conduct of relations with Afghanistan to such an extent that when the Taliban, which has links with the ISI across the border, mounts terrorist strikes in Afghanistan, President Ashraf Ghani speaks to Raheel Sharif rather than Nawaz Sharif!

The general has shown similar disregard for constitutional norms on issues of internal security. He mounted a large-scale attack on the Pashtun tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, ruthlessly using artillery and air strikes, after the Pakistani Taliban attack on the army school in Peshawar. These operations, named Zarb-e-Azb, have rendered 800,000 tribals homeless, with an estimated 50,000 fleeing into Afghanistan. The entire operation was mounted in the face of opposition from both the provincial and federal governments, and without parliamentary approval.

Raheel Sharif showed similar disregard for the views of the federal and provincial governments in his crackdown, using the army controlled Paramilitary Rangers to crush the MQM Party in Karachi. Meanwhile, the brutal army repression in Baluchistan continues. Despite being lauded as a “saviour” by sections in Pakistan, Raheel Sharif has laid the foundations for prolonged unrest in three of Pakistan’s four provinces.

The retaliation

In these circumstances, the Nawaz government hit back with leaks to the Dawn newspaper, alleging that support of the army and ISI for groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Haqqani Network in Afghanistan have led to the diplomatic isolation of Pakistan across the world, with even “all-weather friend” China expressing misgivings. This sentiment echoed widely in Pakistan’s parliament.

The fact that India’s surgical strike has been welcomed by the US and the European Parliament, and that this has accompanied a boycott of the Saarc summit in Islamabad, has given Nawaz Sharif more political space to act. He can now move to replace Raheel Sharif, who is due to retire on November 29, with a person of his choice. This will happen, unless, in the meantime, the Supreme Court acts against Nawaz Sharif on allegations of corruption and money-laundering, or if a proposed agitation by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s Imran Khan paralyses the government and invites army intervention. Nawaz Sharif may, therefore, name the new army chief well before November 29.

Raheel Sharif will likely recommend the most senior officer, Lt-Gen Zubair Hayat, presently the chief of general staff, to be the next army chief. Hayat is highly regarded and briefly headed the strategic plans division of Pakistan’s Nuclear Command Authority. But Sharif will be wary of appointing a trusted buddy of Raheel. Hayat could well be “kicked upstairs” to the largely ceremonial, but seniorpost of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). As the CJCSC heads the Nuclear Command Authority, Hayat’s appointment could be justified on the grounds of his earlier association with the Nuclear Command Authority.

In that case, Sharif could look lower down the list, amongst officers of comparable seniority. He could possibly appoint Lt-Gen Iqbal Ramaday, who has impeccable family credentials and is presently Corps Commander Bahawalpur, or Lt-Gen Qamar Bajwa, said to be a competent officer, who evidently has reservations about extremist jihadi outfits. Bajwa presently holds the same post that Raheel did, before he was appointed army chief. {It doesn't matter whom Nawaz Sharif choses to succeed Gen. Raheel Sharif. The Pakistani Army ethos of jihad-fi-Sabilillah will overtake even staunchest anti-jihadi even if there is one in the PA today}

Exactly. Russia simply cannot afford to be a sugar daddy to anyone. They don't have any affection for pakis is an added bonus. I hope IN uses the opportunity to obtain another Akula and a few Tu-22M3's. Even China cannot afford to give freebies to pakis. Worried Pakistan asks US to help bring India to talks, The Nation newspaper says

ISLAMABAD - Washington has responded to a worried Pakistan pressuring the US government to help bring India to the negotiating table, unnamed official Pakistani sources told the newspaper, The Nation.

This, despite the US being " suspicious of Pakistan's anti-terror role", Pakistan foreign ministry sources added.
"Pakistan did not want the region to be pushed to war," a Pakistan foreign ministry official told The Nation.

"Washington has told us the whole West and India doubt Pakistan's credentials on anti-terrorism war. They are convinced regarding our efforts for talks but believe India may be right to doubt us," an official is quoted by The Nation as saying.

"Pakistan had complained to the US that India was avoiding talks despite multiple offers from Pakistan", the official added.

Another official told the paper that Washington had asked Pakistan to improve its "anti-terror image" as it tries to bring India to the dialogue table.

Recent appeals by the US for dialogue between the two countries - usually communicated through near-daily US State Department briefings - were actually a result of Pakistan pressing Washington about persuading India for talks, the foreign ministry sources told The Nation.

"Like us they believe talks is the best way out but they still keep on asking us to do more. We have been telling them all these weeks that we had nothing to do with Uri attack or any such incident," a Pakistan foreign ministry official told The Nation.

In yet another stern warning to Pakistan, the US earlier this week said it is working very hard to push Islamabad to go after terrorist groups that seek safe haven on its soil and territory. State Department spokesman Mark Toner added that Islamabad and New Delhi must adopt a "conciliatory approach" to resolve their issues.

Tension between India and Pakistan has escalated following the Uri terror attack last month, and after India's retaliatory strikes in Pakistani-occupied-Kashmir. The Uri attack killed 19 soldiers.

Why is al bakistan hell bent on bringing India to the negotiating table? Can't be just "for the betterment-of-humanity-and-peace-in-our-time" thingy? Or is the pressure from their deeper than the deepest ocean friend creating conditions for more "investments"?

anup, I hadwondered along the same lines a few days back here, and came to the following conclusion:
Of course, in all the above, the pleas for talks are interspersed with the usual Paki bravado. Leaving aside the swagger & bravado, the question therefore is why are three top leaders of Pakistan calling India for talks, especially after receiving a good spanking? It certainly cannot be a change of heart. I feel that Pakistan expects through these calls to activate the Indian 'talks-lobby' which is now silent and build-up pressure on Modi in order to terminate the current phase of Indian anger. Pakistan hopes to thrive on disunity within India. Its hope is that if the Indian gaddar liberals and their friends in the US can push the Modi-government into talks, it can then become intransigent once again, making a furious India take a tough stance which will then allow India to be painted as a spoil-sport. In the meanwhile, it thinks it can continue with its harassment, attacks here and there and possibly even lull us into complacency before planning another big attack trying to test whether the changed Indian stance of a bye-bye to 'strategic restraint' really holds or not.
What you state, China putting pressure on Pakistan to have 'peace' for the benefit of CPEC, is also another possibility. But, I continue to believe that China is itself interested in LIC with some retaliation by India in order to force the civilian government to hand over the CPEC to the Army. From the CPEC thread, it is clear that CPEC is actually going haywire. The civilian government, the fractious politics, and the inter-provincial discord make China nervous. It might never have dealt with such a situation in any other country where it has dealt with. However, the Uri project went out of control and China is now stuck between a rock and a hard place.

One more pleading, begging for intervention from the US. - ToI
Zakaria [Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Nafees Zakaria ] also referred to a media report quoting US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who described tensions between India and Pakistan as a "very, very hot tinderbox" and offered to be "the mediator or arbitrator".

Zakaria noted that though Pakistan does not comment on media reports usually, in this case it welcomed the mediation offer. :rotfl:

"We continue to urge our American friends including those in the administration to play their due role in resolving bilateral issues between Pakistan and India, particularly the Kashmir dispute," he said.

"And definitely Pakistan has welcomed in the past also any role of mediation, we welcome such offers," he added.
Really, it looks very pathetic.

From my e-book, if I may
http://pakistanfailedstate.blogspot.in/ ... neral.html
Disputes and mediation:

Pakistani leaders have initiated war against India mainly when they have assessed India as being weak. On every occasion, the Pakistani assessment of Indian weakness has led to a situation in which Pakistan is faced with military defeat. But to the Pakistani leadership, an offer of peace by any party is considered as a sign of weakness. Courage and a willingness to fight are honourable, and offering peace is a sign of cowardice and an unwillingness to fight.

When faced with a situation in which Pakistan is the weaker party, the need to maintain honour and avoid shame requires that Pakistan must not sue for peace by directly negotiating with India. This calls for the introduction of a mediator or middleman. It is cowardly to call for peace directly, but it is honourable to agree to peace when mediated by a respected third party, which avoids the need for defeat and dishonour. Any concessions that Pakistan is forced to make can be conveniently blamed on the mediating party. The important need here is for Pakistani leaders to appear to be strong and retain their honour in front of their own people. It does not matter if anyone else considers that Pakistan was defeated, weak or dishonoured as long as the Pakistani people see their leaders as having pulled off some kind of victory, and are not seen as having lost their honour to the weaker party India.

This explains the tendency that Pakistani leaders have to call for third party mediation in settling a dispute between India and Pakistan by appealing to the US, the UN, the International community or any other third party rather than facing shame by negotiating for settlement directly with India. In the Kargil conflict, when Pakistani forces were facing rout, the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demanded an audience with President Clinton of the US and then ordered withdrawal of the remnants of the Pakistani forces to give the appearance that it was not a clear defeat, but a respected third party’s request from President Clinton of the US that made a triumphant Pakistan pull back from defeating India.

Because talk of peace is considered to be a sign of weakness, it is likely that peace offers from India have been misinterpreted by Pakistani leaders. Indian peace initiatives are seen as a sign of weakness, which must be met with threats and demands for concessions. But an India that appears to be showing weakness by talking about peace mystifies Pakistan by refusing third party mediation. For India, third party mediation is unacceptable in what is essentially a bilateral dispute with Pakistan. This confuses and angers the Pakistani leadership, because on the one hand India appears weak to them by asking for peace, but on the other hand India refuses third party mediation which a weak nation should accept with gratitude to save its own face.

Bakis are not strategic thinkers. It is not in their DNA. Their ever green hero, el musharraf, son of el ataturk, was all about tactics (think: Kargil) and bravado (being mard-e-momeens and all that). Strategies, be damned. I don't think that bakis have a long term plan when they leave no stone unturned (no pun intended if you are an islamist) in urging every tom, li or saudi to convince India to the negotiating table now. There is a short term goal in their minds and, to me, it is obvious who is behind this. The NaPak army. Shiv may be right. There is a nexus blooming between PLA and NaPak.

In 'slummabad, they are already looking for a tall enough lamp post, registered in Panama.

I believe it is of paramount importance for the Porks to keep up appearances. There will be no 'green' judgement for Capt. Panama (So, fun activities, like lampbosting, mongo crate-ing, head chopping, soosai bumming, shooting followed by soosai bumming followed by hosing is all out of question).
Nawaz will probably be thrown out of the country by the scruff of his neck with a warning never to return. Dimran will be the new puppet, he can take over the begging duties.

unless.. someone goes qadri on Mian's musharaff and throws a wrench in the works..

Pakistan links to Rohingya militants ‘deep-rooted’
Myanmar President Htin Kyaw's statement blaming a little-known Rohingya militant group “Aqa Mul Mujahideen” for the recent attacks on Myanmar border outposts and its Pakistan links has not surprised Indian and Bangladesh intelligence.
The HUJI-A chief is Abdus Qadoos Burmi, a Pakistani national of Rohingya origin, who it is claimed recruited Hafiz Tohar, 45, from Kyauk Pyin Seik village in Maungdaw in Myanmar and arranged for his training in Pakistan.
Senior Bangladesh intelligence officials said that in July 2012, Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD)/ Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) started the Difa-e-Musalman-e-Arakan conference in Pakistan to highlight the Rohingya cause."Subsequently, senior JuD operatives, Shahid Mahmood and Nadeem Awan, visited,in August 2012, Bangladesh to establish direct contacts with Rohingya elements based in camps along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border," said a top Bangladesh intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity.Indian intelligence officials say that Pakistan-linked Rohingya terror groups have also been noticed in Mae Sot area on the Thai side of the Thai-Myanmar border.
We cannot rule out that these Rohingya armed groups may have close links with Bangladesh's homegrown jihadis and could share hideouts, finances and sources of weapons supply," said a senior official of Bangladesh's Counter-Terrorism Centre.

India, Bangla Desh and Myanmar should jointly name and shame Pakistan in international fora on this issue !

Pakistan needs to lobby its case

Posted by Mirwais Achakzai

An outgoing French diplomat, who served in Islamabad for many years, very alarmingly explained Pakistan’s state of external affairs.

But first a little history. He explained how Pakistan had a cordial relationship with France which had been the first non-Muslim state to recognize Pakistan. During the Cold War, France considered Pakistan a “state deserving attention” and had been a major foreign supplier of Pakistan Armed Forces. She had also been an important partner, particularly for the PAF and Pakistan Navy. In 1967, France sold the first batch of its Mirage fighters as well as submarine technology to Pakistan.
In those days, Pakistan’s foreign office was quite actively lobbying and achieving results in securing major military and economic gains. He mentioned how Paris would get excited whenever Pakistan would announce it was holding a Qawwali concert in Paris. People would go mad and the concert tickets were snapped up two months in advance.
But today, he said, Pakistan is not really doing anything but it suffers largely of its image. When you talk about Pakistan, the western world thinks of terrorism, the Taliban and uncertainty. There is no tourism, the national economy is failing. But when you mention India, they think of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, and mega developments and defense projects.

This conversation really made one wonder what the rest of the world thought of Pakistan post 9/11. Even though Pakistan had little or nothing to do with 9/11, why does it suffer so much in terms of its international image?

It is indeed alarming, as times have changed. India has become more proactive in the equation. India is suddenly a potential market for the West. Europe wants to sell military hardware to India. Major corporations started investing in India. Many offshore offices have opened up in India. India’s fat defense budget and huge tenders prompted France and other western countries to consider it as a huge potential market for military hardware. India is currently in the process of securing a huge defense deal worth $8.9 billion known as the Rafale deal, a contract for 36 Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft. Indian lobbies were so active in the west that, it turned away many deals from Pakistan.
The Indian government spends millions of dollars every year to influence the US government and other interest groups. It does this in many other important capitals of the world. This very Indian lobby steered away the $700 million deal for eight F-16 multi-role fighters, which was to be partially financed through the US Foreign Military Financing but Congress simply disallowed it.

Pakistan failed to highlight the Kashmir issue and the atrocities of Indian forces, whereas, the Indians were able to convince the west that Pakistan is to be blamed for the rising tension in Kashmir. Afghanistan and India, via their lobbies, persuaded the US state department that Pakistan was not doing anything or too little to eliminate cross-border terrorism. The pro-Indian lobby was able to block the CSF fund by Congress. In the process Pakistan lost it due to our politicians’ incompetency.
Appointments were made on political grounds. Irrelevant people, who had little or no background in understanding external affairs, were handed over the important Foreign Affairs ministry over the course of time. Successful lobbying by the Saudis, acquitted Saudi Arabia from the 9/11 congressional joint inquiry report.

US policy in the region is changing, as it eyes to curtail China through India. Recently India was designated as a major defense partner by the US. India has recently signed a Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA), an agreement that will allow the US and its allies to avail logistics support facilities. China is ambitious in the region and it will not wait for Pakistan. The only factor, which has kept us from becoming Syria or Egypt, is our nuclear capability, as the west cannot afford a disturbed and destabilized nuclear power in the region. Pakistan is so far failing on this front. It’s an alarming situation. If we are dreaming of becoming the next Asian tigers, or if Pakistan wants to buy military hardware, it has to invest in lobbies operating across the world.

Religious Fanaticism Prevails Over Pakistan’s Court
The country’s Supreme Court dodges a decision by adjourning a high-profile blasphemy case.

By Farahnaz Ispahani and Nina Shea
Oct. 20, 2016 1:15 p.m. ET
The fate of an illiterate berry picker on death row for blasphemy has gripped Pakistan in a furor of religious fanaticism. Few examples better illustrate the misplaced priorities of the Pakistani government (e.g. closing of liquor shops to display Isamiat !, issue directives to deliver communication in Urdu only !) and the country’s Islamist ideologues. Asia Bibi was scheduled to appear before Pakistan’s Supreme Court last week. She was arrested in 2009 following an angry dispute with her fellow field hands over whether she, a Christian, was too impure to sip from a cup of water she had fetched for them. The mother of five denies that she blasphemed, and has testified that she was merely professing her Christian faith.
At her initial trial, Ms. Bibi’s inexperienced lawyer failed to cross-examine the two witnesses or object to errors in the proceedings. Ms. Bibi was convicted under Pakistan’s 1986 blasphemy law and sentenced to death by hanging.Since then, Ms. Bibi has been on death row and placed in solitary confinement, ostensibly for her own protection. Though Pakistan has never carried out the death penalty for blasphemy, some defendants in prior cases were murdered by cellmates and guards. Ms. Bibi’s was the first capital blasphemy conviction against a woman to be affirmed by a Pakistani appellate court.
Surprising that the C-& C of the Church In Rome has not been successful in rescuing this helpless woman from the impeding gallows !
Qadri, a bodyguard for Salman Taseer, who was at the time the governor of Punjab, was convicted in 2011 of murdering Taseer for publicly defending Ms. Bibi. After Qadri’s execution, mobs rioted in Islamabad for four days, calling for Ms. Bibi’s blood. That fanaticism returned to full boil last week as the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear Ms. Bibi’s case. Perhaps that’s why one of the three judges recused himself for a conflict of interest, waiting until the last minute to explain that he had also presided over the Qadri case.
In the past, the judiciary has thrown out charges of criminal conduct against the Red Mosque leadership, validating the leaders’ belief that they—and their religious interpretations—are above the law. The blasphemy code is empowering them and their ilk to spread extremism.Saif-ul-Mulook, a Muslim lawyer braving death threats to defend Ms. Bibi before the Supreme Court, has said it could take months for the appeal to be rescheduled. But if Pakistan’s government remains paralyzed in the face of blasphemy-law vigilantism, the decision will be between the judges’ lives and Ms. Bibi’s. Realistically, she may never get her day in court. And Pakistan would take a step closer to the edge of political and cultural chaos.
Why is the "sole practitioner " of Enlightened (Islamic) Moderation (currently on self imposed exile in Dubai, London and Massaland ) AKA Kammandu silent on this relevant issue and why are the so-called liberal feces faces not speaking out

Porkistan wants to stop weaponization of space

Read the full article for a hearty laugh

Some gems
Concerned about the negative implications of the development and deployment of anti-ballistic missile defence systems and the pursuit of related advanced military technologies, Ambassador Janjua said those weapons were destabilising and could have wide reaching implications for regional and international security.

"The effects of the introduction of such systems can be destabilising for sensitive regions like South Asia," the envoy said, adding that all those concerns needed to be addressed in a legally binding treaty.
The surrender monkeys from pindi must've poked her to raise this after India's S400 deal
"Today developing countries, including my country, are tapping into space technology in diverse areas ranging from meteorology and disaster management to economy and telecommunications," she said, adding, "Their reliance on space technology will grow further in the years to come."

"The dominance enjoyed by certain countries in outer space owing to their current technological prowess, therefore, cannot last forever," Ambassador Janjua said.
Not sure what this lady wants to convey. But the mere reference to SUPARCO gives me a heary laugh
