some from Saurav Jha
MBDA's PARS 3LR along with the SPIKE LR was shortlisted to arm armed variants of the HAL ALH family.
A twin launcher that would allow the HAL Rudra to field the PARS 3LR was specifically developed by MBDA & an Indian SME.
I think PARS 3LR ATGMs would have been ordered to arm the Army's HAL Rudra attack helicopters.

Carrier killer needs to be air or sub launched. as we dont have ssn for brahmos the air launch is only option.

The liaoning air wing can launch attacks on surface ships from well outside the 600k max range of brahmos as su27 combat radius is around 1500km

Hope we'll build our own Oscar class. A small fleet of 3-5 should be good enough complemented by backfires.

That is why K-15 is ideal for carrier killer role. It can be fired from subs or land 1000km away. Its a huge missile at 10 m length but that's still smaller than KH-22.

Only in pure AA mode is the combat radius 1500 km. If it carrying any decent strike package it will drop to below 1000 km.

SSNs are configured to fire both Ballistic and Cruise missiles.

Is possible to have Brahmos capability on the next batch of SSNs?

Last development trial of Agni-5 is due anytime, if this is successful then user trial will start next year with induction. We need it as soon as possible :-)

It is a must have. Need to develop the capability to launch from TT. The SSN should be able to carry atleast 8-10 BrahMos along with HWTs.

I wonder if some new fuel will give this capability to current Brahmos with ramjet to give them Hypersonic Capability

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/new ... 848593.cms
What is the update on the Mark II version of the BrahMos? What are the production and trial timelines and how does it improve on the existing missile system?

BrahMos Mark II or Hypersonic BrahMos will be able to fly much faster than the existing one. The speed of the existing BrahMos missile is 2.8 to 3 Mach. In order to make a pure hypersonic missile, one has to make a scramjet engine. Our study suggests that the present engine can be improved if we redesign some some components and do proper thermal management, after which the missile can travel at a speed of 5 Mach.

At 5 Mach speed, the engine cannot be called pure hypersonic. In fact it is just beginning of the hypersonic regime. There are some problems in making a pure hypersonic engine. As of now, we are conducting research completely in the theoretical region. To test a pure hypersonic engine, we will have to make electronics which can withstand very high temperature. We have to make it shock proof so that it can withstand speed of 8-9 Mach. My estimate is that we will be standing at the door of hypersonic engine in about three to four years, and pure hypersonic in about seven to eight years

^^ what are Nirbhay's woes? Last publicised test with umpteens of way point navigation was a success. I am guessing underwater launch may be an issue. Warhead integration may be another. Again, no contract means no deadline means no motivation?

China already has a Brahmos equivalent in addition to sub-sonic cruise missiles. India urgently needs to pay a lot more attention for it's sub-sonic cruise missiles instead of putting all the eggs in Brahmos basket.

Assembly of HSDTV has started: FABRICATION OF CG FIXTURE OF CRUISE VEHICLE.

So, ISRO: first (first flight test completed). DRDO: second (fabrication of cruise vehicle on going) and Brahmos: third.

Awesome news...

Its a fixture for CG measurement. Means you put the missile in it and measure CG location.

We should be pouring in huge monies in Hypersonic tech. This is our chance to leapfrog. This is what i was referring to in some post in that Single Engine fighter thread. We cant keep playing catching up with unkil always. We will hv to take such jumps. We hv a short window available. Hope we make it.

^^ Any news on the Nirbhay? Is it in the same state as the Rustom ( on critical life support)?

Seems a unusual long time between testing after being firmly announced of a Oct test flight

Can some one plot that area on map?
Would like to know the splash area!
chetak or tsarkar?

----
Looking at deltas of Lat and Long its a short range vehicle. Most likely a Prithvi type.
Unless this is the launch area.
Definitely in Bay of Bengal.

--------------

Got it

http://www.darrinward.com/lat-long/?id=2409740

I had to convert the Lat/Long to decimal and input them each in one line.
And then the area showed up.

Can you calculate the total length as way points?
And as just from Balasore to extreme splash point?

Seems NaMo / Parrikar have told drdo to keep mum on various programs. Thus very little news coming out from mijjiles, n-lca, etc etc.

Only big ticket news worthy of surgical strike will be released.

The co-ordinates as way points come up to ~ 650 kms

The distance from the co-ordinate closest to Balasore to the farthest co-ordinate is ~230 kms

Unsurprisingly, Kalam Island (formerly wheeler island) falls within these co-ordinates.. The past notam plots for BM tests were mostly strips, with the length of the 'strip' corresponding directly to the range of the object to be tested.

The nice boxy plot this time looks like something for an object that takes the scenic route. Also one must note that the NOTAM is for 4 hours.

Let's see what this turns out to be..

Duration and range looks like for a subsonic cruise missile or maybe multiple tests !

Based on sudhan interpretation of the plot, its a cruise missile with long loiter time.

But on other hand the 4 hors cloud also be for launch window.

What does Hemant Rout say?

It can also be a ABM or LRSAM test. Earlier waypoints from Nirbhay test were much more wider than current set of coordinates.

Are are so confident that we will allow an untested CM to fly back towards mainland just to go in close circuits.

Rustom 2 would be tested at HAL or if that is considered high risk, then at Chitradurga. Ideally.
Hope to see more info in any case.
