Without naming Pakistan, UAE slams state-backed terror

NEW DELHI: India and UAE would work together to counter radicalisation and misuse of religion by groups and countries for inciting hatred and perpetrating acts of terrorism. A joint statement issued at the end of the visit by the UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan declared "strong condemnation of and resolute opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, wherever committed and by whomever, and declared that there could be no justification for terrorism anywhere."

Though the statement did not mention by name, it was clearly aimed at Pakistan. It said, "The two sides condemned efforts, including by States, to use religion to justify, sustain and sponsor terrorism against other countries. They further deplored efforts by countries to give religious and sectarian colour to political issues and pointed out the responsibility of all States to control the activities of the so-called 'non-State actors'."

India has stepped up diplomatic pressure against terrorism. UAE has been increasingly uneasy, confronting as it is the twin dangers of Pakistan-supported terror groups in close proximity and the looming threat from Daesh/ISIS.

The most recent reminder was the killing of five UAE diplomats in Kandahar — the Taliban asserted it was not their doing. The UAE is reluctant to openly condemn the Taliban which it had supported in Afghanistan in the 1990s, along with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. A security team from the UAE has just returned from Afghanistan after investigating the attack in Kandahar. Minister of state for foreign affairs, Anwar Gargash, said the government would take appropriate steps after the team submits its report. For the time being, the government is being circumspect on the possible outcome of the investigation.

But with indications that it may have been the work of the Haqqani network, with help from ISI, as the Kandahar police chief stated, the UAE is in a bind. Sirajuddin Haqqani, head of the Haqqani network is now also the deputy leader of the Afghan Taliban, so it would be difficult to insulate the Taliban from responsibility. But it reinforces the Indian position which does not distinguish between good and bad Taliban/terrorists considering both a threat.

The attack has provided fresh thrust to the UAE's current approach of countering extremist ideologies that have created groups like al-Qaida and now ISIS/Daesh. The same UAE which was a supporter of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, after 9/11 decided to send troops to fight al-Qaida and Taliban in Afghanistan.

Today, the Emirates, through numerous state-sponsored organisations like Hedayah, is working with schools, Islamic clerics, and governments to steer away from extremist ideologies, weed out extremism from school curricula and even tailor the message clerics deliver to the faithful. Within UAE, the Friday sermons delivered by the imams are written and vetted by a government department on Islamic affairs to make sure the message is of "tolerance, moderation" etc.

It shows the growing alarm coursing through these societies about radicalised Islam becoming an existential threat. "There is a close relationship between extremism and terrorism. Not every extremist becomes a terrorist, but every terrorist is first an extremist," said state foreign minister Anwar Gargash, to Indian journalists in Abu Dhabi this week.

"We have a problem within Islam, within Muslim societies, while the Islamisation of states are also contributing to growing extremism," he added.

There is a growing sense that countering terrorism is key to maintaining what they call the "UAE model" - a modern, tolerant Muslim nation. It is actually one of the anchors that have drawn India and UAE to each other in recent years.

I have a strong suspicion that they are playing us again in this game of "without mentioning name" ...they could be implicitly naming Iran ...just like they did in 2014.

https://www.rabwah.net/pakistanis-who-p ... u-s-visas/
Pakistanis who Persecute Minorities could be Refused U.S. Visas
Times describes how U.S. visas could be denied to those who engage in “persecution of those who practice other religions”.

The order reads:

In addition, the United States should not admit those who engage in acts of bigotry and hatred (including “honor” killings, other forms of violence against women, or the persecution of those who practice other religions) or those who would oppress members of one race, one gender, or sexual orientation.Under the current Pakistani laws, Ahmadis who identify themselves as Muslims are persecuted for their religious beliefs. Ahmadi Muslims have been jailed for reading the Quran, reciting the Islamic creed (Kalima), the call to prayer (Adhan), referring to their places of worship as Mosques etc, and are banned from the pilgrimage to Mecca. All Muslims in Pakistan applying for a passport are required to sign a legal declaration against the minority Ahmadis, stating that they consider Ahmadis as non-Muslims and they consider the founder of their faith to be an ‘impostor’. This means any Pakistani citizen, Official or Minister who uses his or her position to arrest, harass or persecute Ahmadis due to their religious beliefs could be denied a U.S. visa.In the past, several of the country’s top politicians including cricketer turned politician Imran Khan and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have publicly expressed their support for the laws under which minority Ahmadis are persecuted. If the draft order is made into law, these politicians – and any others found engaging in harassment and persecution of religious minorities – could be denied a U.S. visa.

Seems he was banned over 'hate speech'. Specifically, he accused some abducted activists of blasphemy in a few episodes of his TV show.

By the way, this TV host has been discussed before on BRF. There's youtube footage of him saying some stuff when he didn't think the cameras were recording.

Pakistan Is the Crisis Flying Under the Radar
Why the Trump administration needs a plan for Pakistan, now.

Both javed nusrat (dawn), and Dr. Shahid masood have quoted this article, saying that there are omnious signs of something quiet big (an explosion/ or the assaisination of major political personality). happening in Pakistan.

Me thinks that ISI and US deep state are planning something big in India, so that there is a huge blow back to Pakistan.
Time Line is on or before UP state elections.

BRFites, Friends Indians All - Make Modi Ji take a Leaf from Trumps Book :

It's gonna be very, very hard to come in: Trump on Pakistani immigrants

WASHINGTON: In a recent interview, President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, said that 'It's going to be very hard to come in' for immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, countries which did not make the list of the seven whose immigrants were banned by Trump.

When interviewer David Muir asked Donald Trump about Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, the three countries not included in the list of seven states who were suspended from adopting a US visa by the president's executive order, Trump stated that there would be 'extreme vetting' in their case.

"You're going to see -- you're going to see. We're going to have extreme vetting in all cases. And I mean extreme. And we're not letting people in if we think there's even a little chance of some problem," said Trump. "We are excluding certain countries. But for other countries we're gonna have extreme vetting. It's going to be very hard to come in. Right now it's very easy to come in. It's gonna be very, very hard. I don't want terror in this country," he added.

Trump cited the examples of the San Bernardino shooting as well as the World Trade Center to justify the need for 'extreme vetting' in states excluded from the list, which also also includes Pakistan.

When the interviewer asked Trump whether or not he was afraid the move to ban refugees and suspend visas to the seven nations would trigger anger among Muslims across the world, the American president stated that there was plenty of anger among Muslims in the world due to the invasion of Iraq and the strife in Mosul, Aleppo.

"The world is a mess. The world is as angry as it gets. What? You think this is gonna cause a little more anger? The world is an angry place. All of this has happened. We went into Iraq. We shouldn't have gone into Iraq. We shouldn't have gotten out the way we got out," he said.

"The world is a total mess. Take a look at what's happening with Aleppo. Take a look what's happening in Mosul. Take a look what's going on in the Middle East. And people are fleeing and they're going into Europe and all over the place. The world is a mess, David."

During the interview, he also spoke on how the Americans should have taken the oil from Iraq in order to prevent it from ending up in the hands of the ISIS. He also stated that the American people would have to pay for the wall to be built on the border with Mexico and the Mexican government will reimburse 'in some form' later to the USA the cost of building the wall.

Daniel Pearl's convicted murderer appeals against death sentence
KARACHI: The man convicted of kidnapping and murdering American journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi, Omar Saeed Sheikh, has filed an appeal against his death sentence before the Sindh High Court. Others sentenced to life imprisonment have also filed appeals. The Sindh High Court has issued a notice to the prosecutor general for March 3rd 2017. The court has also given orders to allow Omar Saeed Sheikh to meet his lawyers.Daniel Pearl was the South Asian bureau chief at the Wall Street Journal. He was kidnapped from Karachi in 2002. However, a few weeks later his decomposed remains were found buried, along with an identifying jacket, in a shallow grave on the outskirts of Karachi. After the incident, Omar Saeed Sheikh was sentenced to death while three others were given life imprisonment.
This Deep State- double /triple - agent, from earlier newspaper reports, is still being sheltered/ nurtured by the Paki authorities and it would be travesty of justice , if he is set free . The US authorities and Daniel Pearl's family should take note of this !

Peregrine ji, the only three countries that suffered the worst from Pakistani terrorism are Bangladesh, India & Afghanistan. In the case of the US, it struck a Faustian deal with it and has therefore no reason to complain. India *should* have done much more than merely stopping the Pakis from entering our country, a long, long time back. We still support Pakistanis working in India, earning money and using that either directly or indirectly to support jihadi terror against us! We follow inconsistent policies, taking into account the 'sensitivities' of every nation on Planet Earth, except our own.

That being said, I still believe that brave words are normally uttered in the run up to and the initial flush of Presidency. We should not take them on face value.

SSridhar Ji :

The Problem is with the Indian Business Community. Pardon me for "sounding castist". I consider a Brahmin or Kshatriya who is in the Meat Business as a Kasayi. Thus be they Brahmin or Kshatriya then if they are in Business I consider them to Business Men-Women. A person in Business - world wide - only thinks of Profit. That is why J P Morgan financed the Germans. It is believed that Bush Senior's Father in Law was an Investment Banker who financed the Nazis. "Money Making" has neither a Religion of Caste. Money is Money.

The Indian Business Community wants Trade with Cwpistan and Transit Facilities to Afghanistan and the Central Asian Republics. They do not think of the Dangers. If India gets Transit Facilities to Afghanistan and the Central Asian Republics then India will have to give Cwapistan Transit Facilities to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh & Myanmar.

Consider :

1. Indian Trucks carrying Indian goods to Afghanistan and the CARs. These trucks carrying goods to Afghanistan and the CARs will get the same treatment as the Cwapistanis gave to the US Containers carrying US Goods to Afghanistan.

2. Cwapistani Trucks goods to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar will carry Terrorists for India.

As such not only Indian Trade to and through Cwapistan should be discouraged but also stop all Cwapistani Trade to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar etc. (If there is none now then it should not be granted in future). In additon no more Cwapistani Artists, Cwapistanis seeking Medical Help in India, Cwapistani Students getting Scholarship as well as admission to Indian Educational Institutions.

It is time that India told Cwapistan "Basta" i.e. Enough is Enough, No more Trade, Medical Treatment or Education etc. & etc. for Cwapistan and Cwapistanis in-via India.

Apologies in advance for the Rant.

Dus Percenti Lying About Getting Donald Trump Inauguration Invitation ?

Did Asif Zardari buy ticket to attend Donald Trump inauguration?
LAHORE – The leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party, who were terming the invitation for participating in U.S. President Donald Trump’s oath taking ceremony to Asif Ali Zardari as an honour and image-building, might be disappointed after learning the reality, which was revealed by a Pakistani columnist.

He(?) stated in his column that Center for Public Integrity, a leading investigation news agency of U.S, has gotten a broacher? according to which tickets for the ceremony had been sold for $1 million to donors.
On the other hand, PPP had issued a press release saying Zardari has been invited to attend the ceremony that is an honour. Later, it was informed that Shirin Rehman and Rehman Malick are also invited. In a lying culture like Pakistan, it is hard to know the truth. But, IMO, I don' t see Trump's team "wasting" their invitation on second raters like Rehman and Malick

Tahir Ul Qadri presents evidence of Indian National visas for Ramzan Sugar Mills
LAHORE : Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr. Tahir ul Qadri held a press conference today against the Sharif brother alleged activities in Pakistan with respect to the visa issuance of the Indian Nationals for Ramzan sugar Mills owned by Sharif family.
Dr. Tahir ul Qadri provided copies from the documents of Pakistani High Commissioner office based in New Delhi, Ramzan Sugar Mills, and Customs at Wagah Border to validate his stance of the treason.)
Dr. Tahir ul Qadri provided copies from the documents of Pakistani High Commissioner office based in New Delhi, Ramzan Sugar Mills, and Customs at Wagah Border to validate his stance of the treason. So, this padri called Qadri has some sources inside the Paki establishment or did he obtain these documents through the Right To Information legislation !
He also diverted the attention of national security agencies to take action against Sharif Brothers as at least 300 Indian nationals, who are granted unrestricted visas beyond the scrutiny of security agencies.
Dr. Tahir ul Qadri has also casted doubts that the record of the Indian Nationals visas to Pakistan may be destroyed by the Sharif brothers. It is interesting to note that Qadri, like the snowbird , without fail , hibernates every year in Pakistan to escape the harsh Canadian winter /quote]

Census On Again !

General Bajwa approves deployment of 200,000 troops for census
In Pakistan, the first four censuses i.e., 1951, 1961, 1972 and 1981, were held on time by the Population Census Organisation, in collaboration with staff from the provincial governments. The fifth census was due in 1991 and the House Listing Operation carried out in 1990 showed abnormal population growth in some parts of the country, which not be justified by normal demographic indicators.Consequently, the government decided to postpone the 1991 census. Another effort was made in 1994, which could not mature due to pressure by from political and ethnic groups.
It was decided that the 1998 census would be held with the support of the armed forces, which was broadly accepted by all political parties and appreciated internally. The sixth Population and Housing Census was due in 2008, but could not materialise due to the law and order situation in the country, a paucity of staff and financial constraints
So, IOW, no census has been taken after 1981, so all the govt planning and population estimates were largely based on Lahori logic and Sialkoti statistics . I suspect that the Pakistan wants to bury its hand in the sand and they are ashamed that they are "breeding like rabbits" - a demographic time bomb in the making

Missing Pakistani activists make contact with family
Islamabad, Pakistan - Two out of five disappeared Pakistani activists have made contact with their families assuring them that they are safe, family members told Al Jazeera, three weeks after the men first went missing.Salman Haider and Ahmed Raza Naseer made contact via a telephone call on Saturday, the family members said, without offering comment on their relatives' current whereabouts. Hand of Deep State ?
The disappearances prompted a series of protests by rights groups across the country, calling for the government to locate the men, or for them to be produced in a court to face formal charges if they had been detained by the state's intelligence agencies.Haider - a noted progressive activist, poet and university lecturer - was abducted while on his way home on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital Islamabad on January 6, family members told Al Jazeera earlier.Naseer was abducted from his electronics shop in his native village just outside the town of Nankana Sahib in Punjab province on January 7, his family said.
"He is safe and has made contact with us on the telephone," said Tahir Raza Naseer, Ahmed's brother. "He did not say who had taken him."Haider's family made a similar statement."He has been in contact with the family, and the police should be consulted for further details," said a close family member, on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the subject."We are still looking into these reports and will make a statement later," said Naeem Iqbal, a spokesperson for the Islamabad Police.
. First warning given and will be let go ?

Moral Policing At Punjab University.

Campus diaries: Forbidden friendships in Pakistan’s universities
With girls huddled at the back and boys at the front, a chemistry lab class is in full swing at Lahore’s historic Punjab University (PU) - ranked second in Pakistan. For Urooj, a science student at PU, this kind of segregation is quite common. “As long as we can hear the lab attendant’s voice, we have to stand at the back of the class,” she says.
The kind of gender segregation Urooj is referring to extends well beyond her classroom. She reveals; “Even outside the classrooms there are different spaces for girls and boys. There are a number of canteens where girls aren’t allowed. In the ones they are, curtains are drawn to separate them from the boys." It is precisely these kind of rules- under the name of Islam- which lead to sexual frustration. And the "wild behaviour" of Pakistanis when they venture abroad (like the recent arrest of KP province prosecutors in Bangkok for sexual assault !)
According to the 2015 fact book of Punjab University there are only two percent more boys than girls studying at the institution. With the population evenly divided, segregation on logistical grounds is a flimsy argument.Rather, it appears to be a moralistic pursuit based on one of Pakistan’s widely accepted and deeply problematic social constructs: the belief that girls and boys mingling and interacting leads to immorality, and the disintegration of society. The wahabbi version of Islam, which more and more Pakistanis are adopting !
Late in October 2016, a group of agitated, club-wielding students marched through a part of the campus. They were looking for a boy who they had found sitting with a girl in the vicinity of PU's sociology department.“Some of them stormed the building, broke the gate and tortured the guard. They slammed doors and shattered the windows. All this hooliganism lasted more than an hour or two,” narrates Hanain Afridi, a student who witnessed the events that took place at the college’s Institute of Communication Studies (ICS). Vigilante "justice" - in the name of Islam - at diplay!
Today, it seems that the IJT is behind much of the moral policing that happens in one of Pakistan’s largest public universities. How do they command such a position of authority? Some say the IJT owes its success to the consistency and organisational ability it has embodied over the years. Others feel that factions of the university administration are complicit in nurturing and facilitating the organisation.Urooj feels that the administration, in turning a blind eye towards such incidents, stands complicit in aiding violent elements. Anyone who objects to such hooliganism is instantly silenced with accusations of being anti- Islam or pro western !

Urooj feels that the administration, in turning a blind eye towards such incidents, stands complicit in aiding violent elements.
“Local culture demands that young girls and boys should not sit as couples. We never discourage girls and boys in groups,” said Furqan.
To strengthen his argument, Khalil reveals that there are departments in the university where faculty heads too, restrict girls and boys from sitting together. He added there are other departments, where such restrictions do not apply.
At QAU, gender separation seems largely self-imposed. Bari argues; “Such voluntary forms of segregation are detrimental for larger society because students are then ill-prepared for workplace interactions.”For now, a murky set of moral 'codes' are going to stay in place for the foreseeable future. Until more tolerant guidelines built from socially progressive values are introduced, students who wish to have friends outside their own gender may need to keep a spare Rs5,000 note in their pocket to pay the impending fine. Campus segregation in part of the overall Islamization of Pakistan society ; it is futile to enforce such strict segregation; normal interaction between youngsters of both sexes, specially in a campus environment , cannot be policed ; Pakistan as a society is regressing rather than progressing - all in the name of Islam !

Missing Pakistani activist Salman Haider returns home
Pakistani blogger Salman Haider has returned home, more than 20 days after disappearing in the capital Islamabad. He was one of five liberal activists to have disappeared in recent weeks.Mr Haider's brother said he was well, but did not disclose where the blogger had been. The men had aired views critical of the military or militancy on social media. No group has admitted holding them. The government has denied accusations that its secret agencies were involved. When the activists disappeared in early January, hundreds of people held protests across Pakistan to demand the authorities traced them.
Mr Haider, a well-known poet and university professor, was last seen in Islamabad on 6 January, two days after bloggers Waqas Goraya and his cousin Asim Saeed disappeared in Lahore.Another blogger, Ahmed Raza Naseer, who has polio, disappeared from his shop in Skeikhupura near Lahore on Saturday.A fifth activist, Samar Abbas, also disappeared a few days later. The whereabouts of the other four men are not known.
Pakistan's ( nominal !) government expressed concern and said they were investigating.

Muslims fear that Donald Trump's visa ban will boost terrorist groups
CAIRO: Across the Muslim world, the refrain was resounding: President Donald Trump's freeze on refugee arrivals and visa requests from seven predominantly Muslim countries will have major diplomatic repercussions, worsen perceptions of Americans and offer a propaganda boost to the terrorist groups Trump says he is targeting.

Cwapistan has been shedding An Ocean of Tears that their "Fighting their Terrorists Campaign" has been hindered due to their Army being occupied in guarding the Western (with Afghanistan) and Eastern (with India) Borders.

Now that Cwapistan is using One Third of its Personnel Strength in Electioneering how come the Cwapistanis are endangering their Vigilance on the Two Fronts?

"Get" Altaf At Any Cost

MQM Founder Altaf Hussain to be brought back through INTERPOL :((
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain to be brought back through INTERPOL.The government of Sindh would provide evidence in regard to this to the federal government., the Interior ministry of Sindh has sought related information to be presented to them by the police.
Short release no details !
So, the Govt of Sind has been assigned to do the dirty task of fabricating evidence against Altaf Bhai, which will be presented/ forwarded as "evidence" to Interpol in support of false charges against the MQM leader. Just a few months ago, Scotland Yard had announced, that after examining the Pakistani documentation given to them, they recommended that no charges of money laundering etc should be laid against Altaf Hussein !. Even Imran Khan, through his British contacts was not able to pin Altaf down. Can anyone expect fair justice for Altaf in Pakistan, even if his guilty in the first place?

Paki "Black Money" Not Coming To Dubai

Investments by Pakistanis in UAE property market declining :D
KARACHI: While Pakistani real estate agents made a fortune in the sale and purchase of properties in Dubai in 2016, the magnitude of investments made by Pakistanis in the commercial capital of the UAE has dropped significantly in the corresponding period, it emerged on Friday.According to figures released recently by the Dubai Land Department (DLD), the share of Pakistani investors in the Dubai property market in 2016 stood at AED 4.4 billion ($1.2bn as of today) — a 42.8 kcent decline compared to the previous year. With the AED 4.4bn investment in 2016, the investment of Pakistanis in Dubai property market since 2013 reached AED 28.4bn ($7.73bn) or Rs810bn.
Real estate brokers here believed that a major reason behind a decline in the investment of Pakistani citizens was a fear that the UAE government would share their bank details with the Pakistani government.
“[Pakistani] investors feared that the UAE government will share their investment details with the government... so they moved, and are moving, their capital from Dubai to Pakistan,” said property dealer Maaz Liaquat.
Firstly Dubai's "loss" is Pakistan's gain
Secondly, Dubai could not care "less" about Paki Capital inflow - legal or illegal . It's dubious "reputation" of being the Wild, Wild, West East of unbridled capitalism (in it's march to be an = = to Singapore and Hong Kong) AND offering fun under the (Islamic ) sun remains intact !

Iran may cancel $7bn gas pipeline deal with Pakistan: Iranian media
TEHRAN: Iran may cancel high-profile gas pipeline project with Pakistan due to stunted progress on construction work, the head of National Gas Company Hamid Reza Araqi told Iran’s Mehr news agency.Hamid Reza said that Iran is faced with three options: either to continue with the pipeline, restart negotiations to realise the project or cancel it altogether. He also asked Pakistan to complete the gas pipeline project on its side. The “peace pipeline” deal entails import of 22 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas by Pakistan and was signed during President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s enure. The news agency noted that Pakistan was to start gas imports in early 2015, but has not begun construction of a pipeline. Iran also has failed to finish the IGAT7 project which was to transit South Pars field’s gas to the borders with Pakistan.Pakistani politicians have reiterated the country’s commitment to complete the project, while noting that sanctions by UN and the US on Iran slowed down the progress. The $7 billion gas project has faced repeated delays since it was conceived in the 1990s to connect Iran's giant South Pars gas field to India via Pakistan.
This pipe-dream line is going nowhere; Pakistan is dilly-dallying and finding one excuse after another ( US sanction, Saudi pressure ). Pakistan does not have the "diplomatic guts" to say NO to this Ummah neighbour. Right now, CPEC is the flavour of the year and in theory it is going to solve all energy shortages of Pakistan .

Pakistan is preparing for a new role, to play off the US against China. Hence the CPEC lynchpin, while selling itself to Trump as the country from which to deal with Iran.

This is the endgame play. If it's military leaders succeed in making it, and the Trump administration buys into it, Pakistan will not survive as a country beyond this period.

SWITZERLAND / DAVOS: Relations between Pakistan and the United States have been frayed by ‘fatigue’ for the past two years and the only way to repair the ties is to have success on the ground and work on people-to-people contacts, says a former American ambassador to Pakistan.

After a period of great commitment and great effort on the American side to work not only on counterterrorism but also in the development of Pakistan by building social capital and the country’s relations with its neighbours, there is a feeling that many of these things did not work, Cameron Munter told The Express Tribune in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum.

Munter described this state as ‘Pakistan fatigue’ in the American circles.

“Over the last couple of years, there has been [a perception] in Washington what we call ‘Pakistan fatigue’,” he added.

Munter, who served as the US ambassador in Islamabad between 2010 and 2012, is currently President of the East West Institute (EWI) – one of the largest independent think tanks working for conflict resolution.

Munter spoke to The Express Tribune after attending a talk by former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif at the Pakistan Breakfast, organised by the Pathfinder Group.

Raheel narrated successes achieved by the country in the wake of Pakistan Army’s counterterrorism operations and sacrifices rendered by the Pakistani nation. He also spoke about the possibility of forging good relations with all neighbours, including India, “with dignity and honour”.

About the possibility of a Free-Trade Agreement, Munter said there was a real perception that the security situation in Pakistan was so difficult that got in the way of many good projects.

He said there were many institutions in the US that were still very apprehensive about going to Pakistan because of Pakistan’s reputation.

Pakistan, he said had “wonderful people and … a great future”.

“I just hope Pakistan and America can get back to the kind of relationship where they should be … Friends as they have been in the past and partners as they should be in the future.”

Fata reforms
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif deserves the credit for this one. The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) constitute an area of 27,224 square kilometres and a population of around four million – roughly three percent of Pakistan’s area and two percent of our population.
Former US president Bush described Fata as “one the most dangerous areas in the world”. Former CIA director Michael Hayden said that Al-Qaeda safe havens in Fata are a “clear and present danger” to the US. Admiral Michael Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, “If I were going to pick the next attack to hit the United States, it would come out of Fata.” General David Petraeus, who was commanding general of the Multi-National Force, said, “[The] Next 9/11 [will] come from Fata.”
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is trying to ‘restore a modicum of stability to Fata’. Article 247 states: “No Act of Majlis-e-Shoora (parliament) shall apply to Fata.” This must go. The Frontier Crimes Regulation of 1901 permits “collective punishment of a family or a tribe for crimes committed by individuals”. This must go. Section 40 of the FCR – which empowers the political agent to jail anyone for three years without assigning a reason – is the worst of them all. It must go. The FCR has six chapters, 64 sections and three schedules. They must all go.
Constitutionally a part of Pakistan, Fata has long had a weird legal status and an occult system of governance. Fata is about three things: poverty, illiteracy and exclusion. This must change. Fata is a lot poorer than the rest of Pakistan. Fata is a lot more illiterate than the rest of Pakistan. And Fata is almost completely excluded from the rest of Pakistan – politically, socially, economically and legally.
Four million Pakistanis living in Fata have beenreduced to only five ways to earn a living: smuggling, car theft, drug trafficking, the sale of illegal weapons or working for an extremist organisation. Can the PML-N change that?

Immy On A Rant
The Express Tribune

I pray Trump stops giving visas to Pakistanis: Imran
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan hoped that the United States will also slap visa ban on Pakistanis so that the people here could focus on their own country.“I pray that [US President Donald] Trump stops giving us [Pakistanis] visas because then we will try fixing our own country,” Imran said while addressing a party gathering in Sahiwal on Sunday. His party supporters in Massaland may disagree with this "undiplomatic" statement :D
Imran vowed to continue fighting against thealleged corruption of the Sharif family till his last breath.
Taking a jibe at the prime minister, the PTI leader said the premier had broken all records of telling lies. “In my cricketing career I saw a lot of records being broken but I have never seen such high records of lies being broken as Nawaz Sharif as done,” he said. The cricketer-turned-politician said that he felt sympathetic towards Maryam Nawaz because “Nawaz has brought her forward to hide his own corruption”. “Nawaz Sharif is hiding behind his offspring,” he added.
Imran Khan is obviously frustrated . IMO, his chances of dethroning corrupt Nawaz - in the next election- do not look good !

I am with ModiJi on everything else except his blow hot blow cold TSP policy. When here is Trump banning Muslims, why can't India ban or at least demand TSP actors and other RAPE wanting to come to India to declare that they do not approve of their pigLeT terror against India sponsored by their army and ISI? And short of that, they would not be granted visas? Instead we have this unnecessary suck up as if TSP is going to be impressed.

115 charged with burning Christians’ homes acquitted
LAHORE: An antiterrorism court on Saturday acquitted for lack of evidence 115 suspects involved in torching of more than 100 houses of Christians at Joseph Colony in the Badami Bagh area following an alleged blasphemy incident in 2013.Know more: 125 Christian houses burnt over blasphemy.A charged mob had rampaged through Joseph Colony and set on fire the houses following alleged blasphemy committed by a suspect, Sawan Masih.Hundreds of residents were displaced following the violence.A court had tried Masih and sentenced him to death in a verdict delivered in 2014.During Saturday’s hearing, Advocate Ghulam Murtaza Chaudhry argued that the prosecution had failed to bring even a single piece of evidence to establish the charges against the suspects. He asked the court to acquit them.A deputy prosecutor general opposed the arguments of the defence side. He said the evidence provided by the prosecution was enough to convict the suspects. He said the incident had not only spread a wave of terror in the city but also given a bad to name to Pakistan. The presiding judge, Chaudhry Mohammad Azam, accepted the arguments of defence and acquitted the suspects for lack of evidence.

US made 'special concessions' to Pakistan and other countries with 'secret bases'
The following is an excerpt from a declassified document released online by America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as part of a searchable database on its website Reading Room. Declassified documents were previously only available to the public at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland. In a report titled The "General Tricks" Gap, and available in General CIA record, scholar-activist Richard J. Barnet, made a case against secret security intelligence operations. In the document, released Oct 18, 2004, Barnet argued that "…to protect the existence of secret bases in to protect the existence of secret bases in such places as Pakistan and Ethiopia the U.S. has had to make special concessions to those countries it would not otherwise have made."He also quoted a New York Times article as saying, "More than 200 agents… pose as business abroad." US built a "secret base" near Peshawar to spy on the Soviet Union
In the document, Barnet also raises questions about the necessity of covert CIA ops.He writes: "The very existence of a large secret war-fighting capability undermines American democracy because under our system of government it is the people's elected representatives who are supposed to decide when and where we are to go to war.""The maintenance of a large bureaucracy whose very purpose is deception breeds suspicion and cynicism about government in general. Systematic lying to the public, an institutionalised habit in such bureaucracies, has eroded confidence in government to an unprecedented extent."He adds: "The inescapable fact is that effective control over an apparatus of the size and character of the US intelligence community is impossible. The choice is between "trusting" that those in charge are "honorable men", as Richard Helms urger in 1971, or dismantling the covert intelligence arm of the United States. There is an overwhelming necessity, in my view for the second choice."The essay goes on to say that the existence of the intelligence network is largely linked to what kind of foreign policy the US wants to pursue."... The intelligence underworld is a necessary institution for managing a modern empire. If we cannot find security in the world without trying to run it, then the "dirty tricks" department must remain a fixture of our national life."Specifically, the writer talks about Chile and "the recently exposed destabilitisation campaign in Chile"."Indeed there are many reasons why the CIA now seems a more important political instrument than ever, including the improved techniques for "low profile" interventions, the growing desire to control resource-producing Third World countries, the increasing difficulties in mounting conventional military operations abroad.
IMO, it seems that there is some sort of understanding ( informal agreement ) between the Deep State of both countries ; they would need each other for their own interest- and that is why the US is not coming "hard" on Pakistan

US hints at extending visa ban to Pakistan

A day after US President Donald Trump ordered no-visa policy for seven Muslim states, a White House official hinted that the ban could be extended to other countries, including Pakistan.

“You can point to other countries that have similar problems like Pakistan and others – perhaps we need to take it further,” White House chief of staff Reince Priebus told CBS News.

“But for now, immediate steps, pulling the Band-Aid off, is to do further vetting for people traveling in and out of those countries.”

In the most sweeping use of his presidential powers since taking office a week ago, Trump signed an executive order on Friday to pause the entry of travellers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for at least 90 days.

The travel curbs began immediately, causing confusion for would-be travellers with passports from the seven countries.

Defending the US president’s widely denounced order, Priebus said: “This is not a Muslim ban.”

He said Trump has solely identified countries where terrorism is taking place and could lead to danger in the US.

“All this is identifying the seven countries – and the reason we chose those seven countries is those were the seven countries that both the Congress and the Obama administration identified as being the seven countries that were most identifiable with dangerous terrorism taking place in their country.”

The move precipitated large protests across major airports nationwide. The ensuing mobilisation against the order could herald a protracted battle shaping up between migrant advocates and the Trump administration.

While a federal judge has blocked part of the temporary immigration ban, the issue may end up before Supreme Court, which has not ruled on a similar issue since the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act.

Pakistan: Muslims Rape Woman, Torch House to Grab Father’s Property
A 70-year-old Christian man’s refusal to sell his home in Pakistan prompted Muslim arsonists to burn down the property while everyone inside, including his daughter and four-year-old grandson, were sleeping. The British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA), a group that combats Christian persecution, has reported the details of the crime, in which no one was fatally injured.Four Muslim men forced their way into the Christian home and gang-raped the 25-year-old homeowner’s daughter “with threats to leave their family property which was adjacent to home of culprits,” notes Pakistan Christian Post.
Rehmat believes some of the Muslim men who have been sending death threats for refusing to sell his property played a role in the arson attack, adding that “they had formed a local land mafia gang and were frightening other Christians too.”

One question to ask is why is the Pakistani Govt not doing the things that are against the law ; is it blatant discrimination because the victims are non- Muslims ?

BISP not in a mood to give $430m to the poor
ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has failed to disburse $430 million under the Social Protection Development Project despite a lapse of more than three years.Daily Times learnt that BISP disbursed only $123 million to 5.3 million beneficiaries until November 2016. BISP identified 7.2 million poor families (23% of the total population) for the project on the basis of a nationwide poverty scorecard survey.Documents indicate that the Asian Development Bank and the government had signed social protection development project agreement worth $430 million in November 2013 to less income and non-income families in Pakistan.Under the project, the BISP has to disburse $430 million for education, health and public sector management. In this agreement, $80 million were earmarked for health and education and rest of the money was allocated for social protection initiatives.
Basically, what is happening is because of shortage of funds, monies ear-marked for a specific purpose ( in this case BISP) is being used for other programmes ( Defense expenditures etc ) without the public knowing about it. In a lying culture like Pakistan, hard to know where the money received disappeared

The mere fact that Pakistan was not included in the list confirms the continuation of the same policy that the US has followed since the 50s. No other country deserves to be there in the list more than TSP. Of course, we have no moral authority to comment on that because we, the direct recipients of Pakistani largesse, also allow Pakistanis to come to our country for so many reasons.

Pakistan Could be in Immigration Ban List In Future: White House

Washington: There is a possibility in the future of including Pakistan in the list of countries from where immigration has been banned, a top White House official indicated on Sunday, acknowledging for the first time that Pakistan was under consideration to be put in that category.

"The reason we chose those seven countries was, those were the seven countries that both the Congress and the Obama administration identified as being the seven countries that were most identifiable with dangerous terrorism taking place in their country," White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, told CBS News.

Trump has issued a controversial executive order banning immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries -- Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Syria and Somalia.

"Now, you can point to other countries that have similar problems, like Pakistan and others. Perhaps we need to take it further. But for now, immediate steps, pulling the Band-Aid off, is to do further vetting for people traveling in and out of those countries," Priebus said.

This is for the first time that the Trump Administration has publicly acknowledged about considering putting Pakistan into that list.

ALSO READ: London's Pakistan-origin Mayor Criticises Trump's Immigration Ban

Currently as per the executive order, visitors from countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan are subject to extreme vetting.

Priebus said the executive orders were signed after a lot of planning.

"We're not going to advertise to the world that we're going to put a stop or at least a further vetting on travel in and out of our country from these seven places," he said.

"Some people have suggested, that, well, maybe we should have given everyone a three-day warning. But that would just mean that a terrorist would just move up their travel plans by three days.Identifying too many people in these countries and giving them a heads-up in these countries would only potentially flag the executive order for bad order," Priebus said.

"The President has a call with leadership in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and other countries around world. And I'm sure this topic may come up," he said. Priebus asserted that Americans have to be protected first.

"These are countries that harbour and train terrorists. These are countries that we want to know who is coming and going in and out of to prevent calamities from happening in this country," he said.

"We're not willing to be wrong on this subject. President Trump is not willing to take chances on this subject. He was elected president in many respects because people knew that he was going to be tough on immigration from countries that harbour terrorists," Priebus said.

"I can't imagine too many people out there watching this right now think it's unreasonable to ask a few more questions from someone traveling in and out of Libya and Yemen before being let loose in the United States. And that's all this is," he said.

What does Trump's Executive Order mean for Pakistanis?
RAFIA ZAKARIA — UPDATED about 3 hours ago
On Friday January 27, 2017, United States President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order titled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States.”
The text of the order stops the admission of refugees from Syria indefinitely and further bans entry of all citizens from seven countries including Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. The refugee ban does not state a time limit.
The ban on visa issuance will be in effect for 90 days after which the list will be reconsidered (and possibly expanded) to include other countries, including Pakistan.
The text of the order refers to 9/11 and the threat of “radical Islamic terrorists” as the basis for instituting the ban.
In an interview following the signing, Trump stated that the ban on refugees would not extend to Syrian Christians who are fleeing persecution. And while the ban does not call itself a “Muslim ban” its effect will be to ban non-citizen Muslims from the listed countries from traveling to the United States.
The day after Trump signed the Executive Order, visa and green card holders from the countries listed were already being stopped at US airports and in several cases pulled out of planes at other airports around the world as they attempted to travel to the United States.
....
Another notable facet of the current ban is that it applies to all non-citizens from the countries stated. This means that even green card holders, known as “legal permanent residents” or “resident aliens” are also barred from returning to the United States.
Based on the above, Pakistani citizens who are legal permanent residents of US (green card holders) or hold other US non-immigrant visas must take seriously the possibility of an imminent ban on Pakistani citizens as well.
Pakistani citizens who are currently in the United States on F student visas, H-1B visas, J visas (usually issued to resident physicians and exchange programs) should not travel out of the United States for the next several months if they wish to return there.
Those who hold these visas and are currently in Pakistan and wish to return to the United States should perhaps return immediately.
Those Pakistanis who are legal permanent residents/US green card holders and wish to return and live in the United States must also return as soon as possible.
If the ban is extended to Pakistan, none of these categories of people (save US citizens) will be able to return to the United States.

In 1984, Indian Air Force could have 'inflicted major damage' on Pakistan's nuclear facilities, CIA believed

Shailaja Neelakantan | Updated: Jan 30, 2017, 01.00 PM IST
NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force (IAF) could have "inflicted major damage on Pakistan's most critical nuclear facilities", in 1984, says a secret CIA document from November of that year.
The secret "intelligence assessment", made soon after then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination, also said that an attack by the IAF could "destroy or sufficiently damage the facilities to prevent Islamabad from producing nuclear weapons for several years."
Surprisingly, the CIA document also says that MIG 29s - which India at the time was awaiting delivery of - had "medium-range capability superior to" that of the F-16s, which were and still are made by the US. Notably, Pakistan possessed F-16s.
Because of "poor command, control, and communications, we judge that Islamabad could not blunt a massed Indian airstrike", the document says. It adds, though, that "surprise and speed" by the IAF were critical for a successful strike on Pakistan's 'most critical' nuclear facilities. According to the CIA, those facilities were the Kahuta Enrichment Plant and PINSTECH-New Laboratories facility, both of which were just 30 minutes away by plane from India.
India's air force was "larger and better" than Pakistan's, the 1984 CIA document says.
"We believe that the Pakistanis can neither provide effective air defense for their military and industrial targets against a concerted Indian air attack nor seriously threaten most strategic targets in India," it adds.
In the event of an IAF strike on Pakistan, the IAF would have most likely used its MIg-23s and its Jaguar aircraft, the CIA believed at the time.

"New Face" For Jaamat -ud- Daawa ?

Act against JuD or face sanctions, US tells Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has again been pushed to decide whether it’s going to declare Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) as defunct or continue to give it a clean chit. However, this time the United States has clearly told Islamabad that in case of not following the ‘advice’, Pakistan may face sanctions. On the other hand, JuD may also change its face again with a new name, highly-placed government sources told this correspondent.“Consultations are going on whether to declare JuD as defunct or not. However, the final decision will be taken after consultations between the civilians and military authorities,” one of the key senior officials directly linked with the matter revealed to The News.
JuD, a charity organization, is also alleged to be the front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The organisation, which is headed by Hafiz Saeed Ahmed, is allegedly involved in militant activities in Indian held Kashmir and has already been declared as a ‘foreign terrorist organisation’ by the United States in June 2014.
There is no need to put "alleged" as there is sufficient evidence available to support the "terrorism" charges !
The sources claim that the United States assistant secretary of state in his meeting with Jalil Abbbas Jilani, Pakistani High Commissioner to the US, on January 11 this year raised the issue in the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG)’s latest report.
Reportedly, in the latest APG report, some key objections were raised regarding the activities and the financial traffic of JuD. The same were presented before High Commissioner Jalil Abbas Jilani. The sources claim that the US authorities clearly told the high commissioner that if the objections raised in the report were not addressed, the US may put Pakistan in the blacklist of the countries in the International Cooperative Review Group (ICRG).In case of being blacklisted, Pakistan has to tender a request for each of its international transaction through the international financial institutions.
So, Pakistan already being under financial pressure , is going to being squeezed further, if this report, is to be believed
The sources claim that Dar, in a closed door meeting, had clearly said that the decision to ban the JuD would be made by the security establishment. The sources claim that it has unanimously been decided that the report containing the concerns of APG would be drafted by Syed Mansur Ali, the director general of State Bank Financial Monitoring Unit. Despite many attempts to reach the DG MFU, no response was received. Nominal civilian govt, passing the "hot potato" to the Deep State!
On the other hand, the JuD has started discreetly working under the name of ‘Tehreek-e-Azadi-e-Kashmir’ (Kashmir Freedom Movement). The latest name has been adopted by the JuD chief Hafiz Saeed since January 14, 2017 in a press conference. According to Saeed, they have declared the year 2017 as a year for Kashmir, so they will be using this name besides keeping their independent position as JuD. The sources claim that in the days to come, the JuD may change its face again and may also announce to join politics probably with the new name. This correspondent attempted to reach Yahya Mujhaid, the spokesman of JuD, but he too was not available for comment.
New "avatar" coming soon for JuD

Act against JuD or face sanctions, US tells Pakistan
Remember when China stood by Pakistan on this very same issue about a year and a half back when India raised the issue at FATF meeting? China stood by Pakistan at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meet at Brisbane where we had strongly raised non-compliance by Pakistan on freezing assets of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates. China, however, felt that Pakistan was doing all it could and had been submitting reports to the Asia Pacific Group (APG) on Money Laundering that collaborates closely with the FATF. China also objected to India raising the issue at the FATF on the grounds that Pakistan was not member of the grouping.
