Great move by BMTC to have buses for aeroindia. Me and SHQ will give it a shot on Friday. I was planning to hire a driver for the day as I did not want to get tired and frustrated driving.
Will be fun on Saturday when 5 lac abduls and ayeshas land up @ the show. I will hire a driver for Saturday though.

When is the timings for the Air Display ? I think I will get the ADVA ticket and slink off without telling the kids (who will insist on coming along) and take the BMTC Volvo to and from the show.

Thanks for the info. Here on the leaflet they mention that Visitor pass worth 1500 is valid for 17th and 18th. But the registration page on the site says only for 18th. Why can't they be clear on this small thing..???siddhu wrote:For people who are yet to collect tickets or yet to register ....I heard that you can pay directly at the counter and get the tickets:

Since I had some time this morning, decided to get an early look at AI. Usually Monday of the AI week is reserved for defence officials day. There will be a full show performance. I was supposed to meet up with some defence dude and sneak inside along with them. Unfortunately, he could not make it due to an emergency and I was stranded near Yelehanka AFB. Decided to hang around to watch the display from outside. There was Yak team display followed by LUH flyby, LCH flyby and Rudra+Dhruv flyby. Note none of them performed any air show manoeuvres. The.re were two LCA departures followed by one landing at least. I waited till noon...no Su-30, Gripen, Rafale, F-16 etc. So, can anyone confirm the roster of display? I might go on Wed for ADVA. I was disappointed today. Please note that carry Water bottle and a baseball cap/hat for protection.
Edit: Saw helicopters at around show centre which may be good 0.5 Kms from perimeter of the base. It is possible that I may have confused Dhruv with LUH, but the chopper looked like a single engined and not twin. Also saw a lot of our desi products taking off and heading towards the city. Perhaps they will be parked over night at HAL and fly to Yelehanka from there (?)

Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
I will wait for some already present BRF members (Vishal et al) to confirm the roster of display before making ADVA purchase. May have to push my visit date from Wed to Thu. I am pretty sure SKAT will be performing (given that there are pics of them practising). Also per Livefist Article, Netra will do a demo. C-17 I think will...at least it did last time around. But it is indeed surprising to hear consecutive lack of jet displays.

BENGALURU: In a first, a Chinese delegation will be participating at Aero India, and what the delegation may look for is already a topic of discussion.
The Chinese delegation will have five officers from the air wing of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The five, according to sources are: Maj Like Yiu, Col Huang Xinyang, Lt Col Joan Jiaji, Maj Gen Wang Qiang and Sr Col Gao Zhikuan.
Terming this a major development, officials said that until now there was a cautious approach and now the government has become proactive.
In the 2011 edition, Chinese journalist Li Miao had stormed into the defence minister's press conference and interrupted ASK Antony's (then defence minister) speech. Complaining about her struggles, she had said: "...Mr Antony, I congratulate you on the show, which I think is a great success, but I want to tell you that I had not received passes until this morning and I still do not have passes to cover the remaining of the show, are we (China) really invited for this show?"
Chinese had never participated in the show and with even the Chinese media never really entertained wholeheartedly, the delegation this time is likely to garner a lot of attention.
Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Perhaps she should have attempted interrupting her on defense minister in China and found out after 20 years of RI working on CPEC breaking stones by hand.Bhaskar_T wrote: Hindi-Cheeni Bhai Bhai but why !!

Sir do you know if one can walk in and purchase a business pass (not sure if these are classified as tickets), or do we have to necessarily register and pay online beforehand?shiv wrote:Got plastic card passes from Coffee Day JP nagar next to RV Dental college after showing barcode printout. Take photu id and payment with you and have it all done there. I was first in queue and the guy after me looked like someone's driver - with 6 aadhaar cards in his hand for tikats. Pass/tikat all the same - this year made of plashtic and credit card size.arshyam wrote:Sir do you know if one can walk in and purchase a business pass (not sure if these are classified as tickets), or do we have to necessarily register and pay online beforehand?shiv wrote:Got plastic card passes from Coffee Day JP nagar next to RV Dental college after showing barcode printout. Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Pure speculation onlee. There were two Tejas departures from AI right after each other. Both of them came back after 30 mins and I witnessed landing of one of them. It is possible that these are customer demo flights...perhaps took the potential customer pilots' on a sneak peak ride.

Yesterday was a rest day for crew after all the practice flights, hence not much activity.. The big jet performance include Rafale, Grippen, Tejas, Su30, SkAt, Sarang, F16 and two other foreign aerobatic teams. AEW&C bird does a small flyby as well along with LCH, Rudra and LUH. Htt40 and Hawk-i haven't been seen yet by me so I am not sure although my friends have seen them perform.Zynda wrote:I will wait for some already present BRF members (Vishal et al) to confirm the roster of display before making ADVA purchase. Went to the MG road CCD this morning. Chap with an HAL badge was sitting with laptop and card printer. Showed ID, paid by debit card on a normal PoS machine (no OTP, phishing site fears etc.) and got the pass. They accept cash as well. 3-4 people in line. Total 10 min.arshyam wrote:Thanks, will try it tomorrow.shiv wrote: Take photu id and payment with you and have it all done there. Recommend this for those who plan to go on Sat.

HI
Is there an option to collect the passes at the airport. Myself and couple of my friends are travelling from chennai and we have registered for the 16th. All the confirmation we have is an SMS. We will be reaching banglore at 7.30 and are planning to go straight to the venue. Is there an option to collect the passes at the venue itself on the day of the show

Re: Aero India 2017 - Feb 14 - 18
Since I won't be attending AI as a business visitor, I am hoping BRF members attending exhibition halls can ask the following questions. Please feel free to leave out any questions which may seem irrelevant or trivial.
1. Apart from ADA & NAL, are there any private SME involved in design of components/sub-assemblies for AMCA? If yes, try to get some names please. (please be cautious on how the 2nd part of the question is framed...no unnecessary paranoia needs to set in the mind of the official). Note: One can always say that he/she is an aerospace professional who is passionate about getting involved with product development activities, especially indigenous ones and is always on the lookout for possible avenues or opportunities. The above implies that if names of companies are given, I will check out their website or try to find a contact and check for suitable opportunities. Just a suggestion
2. Any major changes in air frame design from LCA to AMCA i.e. is usage of composites gonna go up from LCA to AMCA. If yes, is composites usage gonna expand to primary structures as well i.e. major components of Wings (spars, stringers, ribs etc.) and fuselage (frames, longerons etc). Edit: LCA already has a full CFC wing structure...but the fuselage is metallic. So, the question should be, what percentage of fuselage of AMCA is planned to be Composites.
3. Also materials sourcing. I think currently for LCA, the raw materials are being sourced from Italy. Any efforts to indigenize the above?
4. Improvement in Manf: We are supposed to get auto layup of pre-preg plies machines from Rafale (?) and possibly even more from singled engine contract. What indigenous efforts are being undertaken in collab with Private industry to achieve the above? Or will ADA-HAL wait for manf offsets from Rafale & single engined contracts to sink in and utilize that experience.
I am almost dozing as I type this. I will try to post more tomorrow when I am more awake.
Others please help to expand the above...lets try to make it a living document for the next couple of days at least.
