Foreshadowing things to come

Jihadi PMCs

http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/02/10/the ... -tactical/

Heavily armed and expertly kitted with body armor and ballistic helmets, the men can be seen defending bunkers, storming buildings, and even posing by whiteboards giving tactical lessons. Though the titles of these YouTube videos are written in Russian Cyrillic, their background music is an a cappella Islamic chant known as a nasheed, which is often used by extremist groups in propaganda films. But the men are no ordinary jihadis. They are members of Malhama Tactical, the world’s first jihadi private military contractor (PMC) and consulting firm.

Malhama Tactical isn’t an enormous military conglomerate like the infamous Blackwater (now named Academi). It consists of 10 well-trained fighters from Uzbekistan and the restive Muslim-majority republics of the Russian Caucasus. But size isn’t everything in military consulting, especially in the era of social media. Malhama promotes its battles across online platforms, and the relentless marketing has paid off: The outfit’s fighting prowess and training programs are renowned among jihadis in Syria and their admirers elsewhere. It helps that until now the group has specialized its services, focusing on overthrowing Bashar al-Assad’s regime and replacing it with a strict Islamic government.

Meet a Bahadur Bihar soldier
Gunner Rishi Kumar of Field Artillery Regiment was on sentry duty when the fire fight started. He observed the terrorists approach and waited for them to come within close range. He then engaged them & was hit on his head but was saved by Bullet proof patka. However, the whiplash of the impact caused him to fall down. He immediately recovered and fired back to kill the two terrorists. Running out of ammunition he moved out of his bunker and tried to pick the weapon of the slain terrorists to engage the third. The third terrorist fired and injured him thus managing to escape. The soldier is from Ara, Bihar and has 8 years of service. During the incident Rishi has shown the indomitable spirit of Indian soldier.

Need massive hits on pakjabi army inside pakjab soon. They are being hit regularly in KPK and Baluchistan but nothing like hitting them in pakjab.

I am confused here. Our soldier sees the enemy and ambushes them (engaging on his own terms) and somehow gets hit without actually hitting any of the targets he fired upon. Recovers, kills two pigs and runs out of ammo! How does a sentry run out of ammo in his bunker and the terrorists still have ammo? Was he not carrying any extra mags? And where did the other three personnel get killed?

The 3 soldiers were killed while they were asleep in their barracks and the jihadi pigs fired grenades from UBGLs into their rooms. The injured gunner was one of the sentries who engaged them afterwards.

Now if the report is true , then it proves capability of patka. Perhaps a first time account narration. Patka vs AK47 with an impact force caused the soldier fall, but without scratch.
Long ago I remember was a long drawn debate on this..

The patka is actually bulletproof against an AK, compared to the latest greatest infantry helmets we are acquiring that are only proof against artillery fragments and pistols. In a regular battle, perhaps the new helmets are suitable but patka appears more suitable in a COIN/sentry duty type role.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/m ... 382586.ece
Massive anti-militancy operation launched in Kashmir’s Shopian district
South Kashmir has seen a spate of attacks on banks, especially in southern districts of Shopian and Pulwama.

Security forces on Thursday conducted an eight-hour counter-insurgency operation in 12 villages of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The effort was to push back militants and dominate the district that has seen heightened militancy this week.

Hours later, militants attacked the Army and injured three personnel.

The operation was launched around 8 a.m. Over 3,000 security personnel, including jawans from Sector 1 and Sector 2, cordoned off villages, orchards and forest areas in Shopian, around 60 km south of Srinagar.

“We conducted house-to-house searches in several localities,” a senior police official told The Hindu. Drones and helicopters were also used to dominate the area.

CRPF and police personnel, who were part of the law and order component, faced protests by residents of Turkawangam, Sugan and Maldera villages. The villagers alleged their houses were ransacked during the operation.

Several vehicles were damaged by the security forces, alleged locals. Four youths sustained pellet injuries during the protests and were taken to hospitals

Tear-smoke shells were used to disperse stone-throwing protesters. Fresh protests erupted in Shopian town too when the operation was called off around 3.30 p.m.

The security operation was on the lines of the 1990s crackdown where several localities would be put under siege. However, such operations were called off as militancy started waning in 2000. Locals claimed one militant was arrested during the operation.

Hizbul Mujahideen’s Zeenat-ul-Islam and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Waseem Shah allegedly hold sway in the district. Police sources said the operation was meant to push back militants and dominate built-up areas where they suspected support for militancy.

Many militant groups reportedly have found “safe havens” in these villages. “We believe a recent video uploaded by the militants was shot in the orchards of Shopian,” said a police officer.

The crackdown comes in the wake of three bank robberies, killing of seven people and snatching of 10 service rifles in Shopian and nearby Pulwama districts.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said in New Delhi that the operation was necessitated as some banks were looted and some policemen killed.

Hours after the operation, militants opened fire on a vehicle carrying Army jawans from 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at Shopian’s Kellora village. Preliminary reports suggested three soldiers were injured. However, a civilian driver was killed in the firing.

Yup, there is a thick layer of kevlar and some metal plate (or maybe ceramic ?) inside. Almost as heavy or heavier than most combat helmets. Atleast the one I checked. BTW, there is some protection at top too, just not as much as the sides.

I have a more fundamental question of why there was only one sentry on duty? This is not the first attack of its kind. Expecting a single sentry to successfully fend off an attack like this is impossible. Now maybe his job was to raise the alarm as early warning. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. He didn't have any backup.

Having said that my suspicion is that Tarmak does not have the whole story.

nachiket...the sentry is usually 1..except at the main gate etc. the individual sentry is in touch with a QRT or something similar on radio. the issue is of manpower... if there are 2 sentries..u can complain why are there not 3 or 4? even the single sentry was enough to neutralise 2 pigs and snatch weapon of the thrid runaway pig !! how are u sure he did not have backup? the account of the soldier was something like this..he heard firing so he checked on radio whats happening ..he was told its an attack..and he saw the pigs coming.. he must have said he has visual contact..but the backup cant arrive in a second... the shooting didnt last for an hour..must have been over in minutes..i dont know whats the issue?

From what i know. J&KP SOG, Army SF and SG are often found going Covert while other members of their same units are operating overtly during an Op. Did it with great success when the TSD was around.

IMO it would be a good idea of restarting the ikhwani program given the current ground situation. I however doubt it can be reactivated so quickly. Those Ikhwanis got royally screwed with the Govt Pull the plug on them last time around. - Also lead to the formation of J&K SOG. Dont know how much trust remains to reactivate on short notice.

Terrorists want to sow fear in Kashmiri youth to prevent them from joining IA. Just a way to ensure that there remains a huge divide between the youth and the rest of India. The biggest fear of the terrorists is if some boy joins the IA and actually sees true secularism in action and turns his fellow youth against the Paki terrorists.

Why a hindu area in India? Their house should be burnt down and they should be bought a one way bus ticket to Lahore.

No, we shouldn't. An army officer should be free from any worries when he returns home. Besides how many can one person fight.

Imagine had a usa army service man returned from deployment in iraq and had been hurt as such on us soil.

A line has definitely been crossed today. When one of their own died( burhan wani ), they burnt down half the state literally and new delhi had to send a parliamentary panel to beg them to stop.

Now one of our own has died, we should ensure such that hurriyat conference has to beg us to stop. Period. It's our soil and there should be consequences for internal enemies.

All OGW, sympathisers should be fair game for the next few weeks.

This is the problem, even after so many years we as a country still don't realise how low they (Pakis) can get. We think a few cross border raids will hurt their izzat & make them turn from their ways. But they don't have any izzat, and that's what we keep forgetting. The Punjab CM has correctly kicked the Indian Army in it's collective balls by saying "Stop being a gentleman's army". So it's waayyyy past time for us to start stooping low.

You see, the government & the defences forces seem to like playing the 'Good Cop, Bad Cop' routine. By being good to the good Kashmiris and being bad to the bad Kashmiris, our establishment thinks it can play a 'divide and rule' rule game in Kashmir just like the Brits played with us. What it forgets is that the Kashmiris are bound by a common religion, which can make the 'good' Kashmiri turn into a 'bad' Kashmiri at the flip of a switch. So unless we treat them all as a whole block there is always the possibility that while we are having Taj Mahal tea with the good Kashmiri, the bad Kashmiri will come from behind and drop a grenade into our chaddi.
Khalsa wrote: Eff this launch the pinakas or prithivi at their Corps HQ
All the brahmos, prithvis, Sukhois we have are like hammers which the Pakis know we wont use against them for fear of escalation. They know that with their favourite weapon -- the PIG (Pakistani Insurgent Guy), they can continue giving us pin pricks anywhere in our country and that's a capability that nothing in our arsenal can ever match. We need a irregular warfare force NOW... not some under cover cops, SOG covert guys or IKHWANI,biriyani or whatever...we need to take some really poor suicidal farmer types from the hinter lands, kit them with a suicide vest and send them across the LOC through the same route the PIGs come over. That is the best present we can give them and one will make them really sit up & take notice.

I agree sir..Officer should be free from worries..Having an arm will definitely help in it..I dont think terrorists can bring too many every time to overwhelm an armed well trained IA officer..

One more thing worries me..If these pigs take officers/jawans on leave as soft targets..They will try to repeat this cowardly act again ..Whoever is behind this should be burnt alive..
