Levant crisis - III

Its unpopulated desert. So white helmets are out luck unless prefab potemkin villages with women and child actors are shipped in from jordan.

Re: Levant crisis - III
Yes, a lot of farmland taken. But the rats are holed up in the old city. It is going to be either street fighting patli gali after patli gali and tunnels or a wait with tight perimeter siege for rats to come out. Either way Mosul is almost in, unless rats can walk under water

Re: Levant crisis - III
What are these Jordanians doing, messing about inside Syria? Deathwish by the Royal Family, isn't it? Jordan already has the long history and ugly stain of the genocide against Palestinians circa 1974 with Paki participation. It's a miracle how they have avoided the Syria/Iraq/Yemen fate until now, but they seem to be trying, trying, to get there.
Re: Levant crisis - III
The Jordanians are cleverly exporting their problems to Syria just as the Pakis have successfully done to us for decades...

x-posting from another thread
having entire Idlib next to the open border with turkiye as a AQ safe zone under nato patronage is going to help nato fight the resurgent AQ looking to reemerge from the shadows ? ....
the population has been purged of any normal people slowly as more and more jihadis with family from other enclaves in syria board the green bus for idlib. chechen trainers are on site, so are north african vets, and uighurs.
it is emerging as the Mordor of the levant. the threat level it radiates is growing
NATOs plan might be to use it like TSP to control and needle Assad and Russia. it has a strategic location to threaten both the coast and aleppo.
but just like TSP while one set of actors will follow the western script, another will deviate and do what they want...and high on that list will be strikes on the west

Re: Levant crisis - III
Assad has been partly responsible for this mess in Idlib, repeatedly making the mistake of allowing a safe passage to rebels. They should not have been allowed to board those busses. Even at the time of Aleppo siege, there was passage kept open for way too long. I know they were facing problems in closing the campaign but its like cleansing peripheral body parts by forcing all the puss to center.

Particularly ugly war crimes allegations coming out from SDOTUS against Assad & Co. Sounds very bad until you remember the pictures of Syrian soldiers being murdered en masse at Palmyra etc. Apparently per SDOTUS Assad is a criminal if he hangs those out to destroy him, but the SDOTUS-backed Moderate Terrorists are just being themselves when they torture Syrian soldiers to death and enslave and rape and burn Syrians for being the wrong religious sect. Getting dangerous to post here. ...

Syrian Army prepares to seize the Jordanian and Iraqi borders
By Izat Charkatli - 15/05/20173
DAMACUS, SYRIA (10:58 P.M.) – Reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army, the National Defense Forces, and Iraqi PMU-affiliated militias continue to pour from all across Syria to east Suweida and Eastern Qalamoun ahead of an anticipated massive offensive aimed at recapturing the Tanf Border Crossing which lies a 100 km from the recently-captured Zaza Checkpoint along the Damascus-Baghdad Highway.
The Tanf Border Crossing that links the Abbasid capital Baghdad to the Omayyad capital Damascus fell to Islamic State terrorists in the early summer of 2015 as exhausted government troops abandoned large swathes of eastern Homs and eastern Hama to focus on more pressing fronts in Dara’a, Damascus, and Idlib (which had witnessed the loss of the government’s last stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour at around the same time).
Though the border crossing was under government control until mid-2015, it had been rendered inoperable as Islamist insurgents dominated the Iraqi side of the Badiyah a year earlier, cutting the vital route that linked Baghdad to Damascus. Currently, US-backed “Commandos of the Revolution” and “Jaish al-Asha’ir” control much of the region between Bir Qassab in east Suweida and the Deir Ezzor provincial boundary including the imperative border crossing.
Frantic about the prospects of US-backed forces establishing foothold along the Euphrates near Mayadeen and Al-Bukamal and eager to reopen the commercial routes to Iraq’s vibrant markets, Damascus made re-opening the strategic highway its utmost priority.
Opening the aforementioned highway would not only link the embattled government to its allies within Iraq, but would also establish a viable land route to Iran, where the impoverished country gets much of the military and financial support that has enabled it to withstand 6 years of attrition and brutal warfare in face of complete economic and political isolation due to merciless sanctions targeting every sector of the Syrian economy including the medical and public service sectors

Clearly syria has sensed the danger in letting these jordanian proxies run around dominating the southern desert area with nato support.
I suspect even with nato support these formations will find al bukamal a tough target and they do not have a good logistical base nearby...al tanf being far off to the west

Re: Levant crisis - III
Lessons for Syria war:
1. VBIED hordes and their effect on conventional infantry defence perimeters. Implications for J&K/Punjab Gujarat borders are not good. Also not in Afghanistan.
2. ATGMs. Tanks need to be urgently reconfigured with those birdcages that the Russians innovated. Plus the moving grillework which must add a couple of tons to the tank weight.
3. This is my big fear: SWARMS of drone UAVs each armed with equivalent of 4 grenades, or C4 IED-Mubaraks. These can penetrate much faster and deeper than VBIEDs and can spread panic. Does India have any of the above in good numbers?

SW of mosul in the deserts...harkat al nujaba fighting ISIS
With Al-Qaywaran still some 17 km away, the next step in their efforts, will be for the militia to seize control of the Thura airbase and Al-Ba´aj from the Islamic State. If they succeed, they will have layed the ground to finally claim back the important town of Al-Qaywaran from the terrorist group.
In addition the Iraqi Airforce took it’s bite from ISIS forces. The Iraqi AirForce Command confirmed that around 50 fighters of the Islamic state have been killed in a row of airstrikes on six different local headquartes of the Islamic state in Iraq. The headquarters were located in the regions of Tal Afar, Al Ba´aj and Qaywaran.
