More on China Noise Nutwerks
The sheer idiocy of his OpEd is succinctly captured in the last para:
Isn't this one of the NonProllotullahs who used to scream at India?North Korea will be a nuclear power. We need to accept that now
The sheer idiocy of his OpEd is succinctly captured in the last para:
How exactly is that going to happen? The "10 million Seoul residents" won't count at that point? Why not punish NOW, BEFORE he and his sponsors give out any more nukes?Meanwhile, we must devote all our energies to making sure that none of Kim's nukes fall into the hands of individuals or groups that no one can contain and who will have no restraints on their use.
Of course, each nuclear weapon, once exploded, leaves behind debris that carries quite a distinct "signature" that can immediately identify its country of origin. Kim must be made to understand that in such a case, the creator of the device will be punished as assuredly as whoever detonates it. Such is the new lexicon of MAD.

SoKo are not nice sdre ahimsa types. The main difference seems to be that NoKo shows off stationary artillery pieces that can pulverize Seoul if not pulverized by anti-artillery missiles b4. SoKo shows tanks firing on the move towards Pyongyang. Missiles. They use drones over the DMZ and mountains and their satellites do high-res imagery of all NoKo. You can read the "Made in China" labels on the NoKo shells as they are brought in, sitting in the high 70mm projection room in the Korean Aerospace Research Institute's Welcome Center. Real-time.

They used to do so with much alacrity and frequency. There used to be repeated "commando" raids and incursions aimed at killing SoKo soldiers and civilians. Kim Il Sung even send a 31 man team to assassinate Park Chung Hee. NoKo agents abducted SoKo and even Japanese citizens, set off bombs in the airliners and cities.Atmavik wrote:I have noob pooch as to why NoKo hasnt gone paki and started asymetric war against the south? i dont have much knowledge about this issue?
These have decreased over the years due to several reasons
1. A sinking NoKo economy, especially after the dissolution of USSR and the huge famine of 1994 and the arduous march that followed.
2. SoKo has become progressively richer, better equipped and the border has been completely sealed.
3. Since 1994, NoKo leadership has focussed not on the destruction of SoKo and "peaceful" reunion, but on survival. Pursuit of nukes was in this direction. SoKo are happy to let them be as long as the mad dogs stay north of the 38th parallel.

I still predict that a NoKo sub is going to be halal'ed. USN has suffered way too much damage to H&D (7th Fleet commander canned, 3 destroyers grounded, 1 fighter plane and 1 or 2 V-22s/other transports crashed, some 30+ dead, many wounded.. numerous court-martialed..)Could be used in submarine-launched missiles

SoKo has high urban unemployment, IIRC. So it will create tensions.
Re: India - South & North Korea Thread
There have been lots of studies on the economic ramifications of a reunion. The gap between SoKo and NoKo is much higher than the gap that existed between FDR and GDR in 1990- to this day many Germans Wessi and Ossie grumble about the costs and the aftermath of reunion.kit wrote:so what .. if the Germany s could be unified so can the Koreas , it's not as if the S Korea is destitute
The two Koreas have had a further 30 years of separation, in which time NoKo economy has gone from worse to worst. To this day many NoKo defectors who are resettled in SoKo are unable to fully settle in- NoKos believe that Southerners discriminate against them and make fun of them for their accent among other things, they are unable to fully adapt to living in a capitalist society.
Southerners believe that the Northerners get a free pass at many things- NoKo defectors do receive considerable resettlement allowances and state support for five years that can include tution fee waiver should they attend a university, while SoKo youngsters slog through petty jobs to pay off educational loans; Southerners also believe that Northerners are lazy, unwilling to adapt, less mindful of rules and regulations and are often involved in drug trade and petty crime.
A lot of this defection and resettlement business actively involves EJs who view the 27 million impoverished Northerners as captive soul harvests. This starts as early as when the defectors cross the Yalu river into Dandong and Liasoning province- the area is crawling with SoKo missionaries and churches of every denomination. It's these EJs who assist the defectors in hiding amongst the ethnic Korean population and then make their way down South.
There have been reports that those who have resisted the EJ offers to "see the enlightenment" are often ratted out to Chinese authorities or the NoKo Ministry of State security (MSS) agents that trawl through the local communities looking for defectors. The defectors who are caught, end up being deported to NoKo as a matter of Chinese official policy. To prevent this, the desperate defectors are willing to do anything and it's often the women who bear the brunt of it in terms of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Indeed, many defectors end up "finding the Lord" once they come down South and among the things (Money, clothes, electronics, digital media) they send back to their families still in NoKo, are Bibles and Bible verses in digital format in NoKo dialect.
SoKo does not have the luxury of a captive EU market to absorb the full costs of reunion. Most young Southerners would be happy to let things be as long as the NoKo mad dogs stay north of the 38th parallel. They couldn't care less about reunification.

Chicken, chicken! Trump is paper tiger. You gotta hand it to NoKim. Next thing: China declares Japanese airspace to be "disputed territory", patrolled regularly by NoKo.
"We have to say that this morning's launch by the North is the most serious and grave threat ever to us, as the missile seems to have passed through our airspace," Suga told reporters at a news conference, according to Japan's NHK public broadcaster. "It could endanger peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. It is also very dangerous and problematic in terms of the traffic safety of planes and ships. The launch is an obvious violation of UN resolutions. We cannot tolerate these repeated provocations by the North. We condemn this in the strongest possible way." Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke to reporters early Tuesday, after reports emerged of North Korea's launch, saying: "We'll immediately gather information and analyze it, and take all possible measures to ensure people's safety," NHK reported.

Re: India - South & North Korea Thread
Noob pooch. How high above the surface is a country's sovereign airspace? Wiki chacha says that it could range from 30-160 km, but no legally defined limit. If a missile overflies at ~500 km above a country, it wont be a violation of the sovereign airspace, yes?

Re: India - South & North Korea Thread
500km is far into Space. Space Law allows overflight. Generally controlled airspace ends at ~18km. Below about 100km is still atmosphere (Von Karman Limit). From Wikipurana:
From the Japanese it appears that the mijjile may have streaked through below 18km (controlled airspace)The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale has established the Kármán line, at an altitude of 100 km (62 mi), as the boundary between the Earth's atmosphere and outer space, while the United States considers anyone who has flown above 50 miles (80 km) to be an astronaut; indeed descending space shuttles have flown closer than 80 km (50 mi) over other nations, such as Canada, without requesting permission first.[4] Nonetheless both the Kármán line and the U.S. definition are merely working benchmarks, without any real legal authority over matters of national sovereignty.
The boundary between public airspace and private air rights is defined by national or local law.

In all fairness, how does a prolific missile-tester nation such as NoKo test its fine products without overflying Japan, hain? Surely not overfly Ivan-stan? That might be very seriously foolish... They COULD overfly SoKo I suppose, but again, not a good idea. Only other option is to aim for the Gobi desert.... or Tibet.
Re: India - South & North Korea Thread
If you look at NKorea as independant from China it is aa big mistake. N Korea Missile activities and Nuke Testing are meant to humliate S. Korea, Japan and USA. For China's domestic population there is a Huge H7D impact from showing these 3 countries as paper tigers.

NORTH KOREA: Kim Jong-un has ordered his soldiers ready for an 'imminent war' with the US
Kim Jong-un’s generals have told their soldiers to get ready for battle as US bombers fly war drills over the Korean Peninsula.
Fears of nuclear war were renewed as the brazen dictator fired a missile over the northern-most island of Japan.
Air raid sirens rung out as people were warned to take cover, before the rocket passed overhead, broke apart, and crashed into the Pacific.
North Korea has said this launch was a preparation for a “real war” and it was feared to be a test flight for a potential strike near US bases in Guam.
Sources have revealed North Korean soldiers have been told to get war ready and steal food and resources from Kim’s own citizens, reports Daily NK.
Commandos to KILL Kim Jong-un ‘within weeks’ unless North Korea backs down
NORTH Korea faces a plan to kill or capture Kim Jong-un “within weeks” should the rogue state “cross the line”.
By Henry Holloway / Published 1st September 2017
Kim Jong-unGETTY
NORTH KOREA: Kim Jong-un is the target of a military plan being drawn up by South Korea
Pyongyang will be target of a “deep offensive operation” using paratroopers and marines to take out the leadership of North Korea.
Kim has reignited nuclear war fears this week as fired a missile over Japan before it crash landed into the Pacific.
South Korea is reportedly drawing-up plans for a “fully-fledged war” as tensions stretch to breaking point with the North.
More than 1,000 key targets will be identified and wiped out using airstrikes and cruise missiles, reports Seoul newspaper Chosun Ilbo.
The operation is designed to end any conflict “within weeks” without having to wait for reinforcements from the US.
“In case North Korea stages a provocation that crosses the line or attacks the capital region”
President Moon Jae-in
North Korea would be wiped away in a rapid war spearheaded by special forces with the mission to take out the regime’s leaders in Pyongyang.
Kim is understood to be the prime target of the operation.
A military source told the paper: “The plan is the mobilisation of airborne troops and Marines to infiltrate Pyongyang to quickly bring down the North Korean regime."
President Moon Jae-in was briefed on the operation on Monday as he vowed form "aggressive wartime action plan”.
He said: "Push for reform of the military structure to meet the requirements of modern warfare so that it can quickly switch to an offensive posture in case North Korea stages a provocation that crosses the line or attacks the capital region."
The president said his military must focus on countering Kim’s nuclear weapons without having to develop nukes of their own.
PREPARING FOR WAR? America and South Korea prepare to defend against the North
US and South Korea forces have been staging a massive war games in the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea claims the military drills are carried out as a prelude to an invasion.
Kim has ramped up his missile test this year as he believes securing an ICBM capable of striking the US will secure his rule.
The two nations – which remain technically at war – are separated by a huge wasteland known as the DMZ.
Earlier this week, South Korean bombers practiced airstrikes following the North’s missile launch over Japan
