BRICS was supposed to be a grouping of 5 equals and it's being hijacked into a Middle Kingdom + 4 spokes (with probably more in the making). This is ridiculous. China already has prime position in SCO, AIIB and BRI. Yet another grouping with China in the middle?

The Subramanian Swamy interview by the Chinese TV channel was somewhat lame being fully focussed on our relations with China. He should have used this awesome opportunity to cut China down to size by talking about the other 3 members and India's relationships with them as well (even if the interviewer only asked about China).

NoKo did an awesome self-goal for China. It would be fun to be a fly on the wall to hear the snickers and snide comments in response to Chinese platitudes about NoKo.

^ Guptaji: And that is precisely what Beijing is carefully assessing by inviting hordes of "journalists" and "analysts" to chai-biscoot with Yang Rui of Gobar Crimes. I think the real interrogation is the private "off-the-record chats" b4 the dissing in public. Indian journos BADLY need a crash course at the Videsh Karyalaya b4 being given a visa to go to China. My Evil 6th coujin for instance, consistently refuses all invitations, honors, this and that to go Cheenistan - for past 28 saal at least. Was strongly considering vijit as co-organizer of major US/international professional society conference in Bejing - just b4 TianmenSquare tank-tread lubrication event. That ended that.

The Chinese are beginning to look pathetic, once the mask of their superiority wore off at Doklam. For so many years we chafed at their supercilious attitude towards us, and now their beseeching 'please don't do this' behavior is both surprising and very enjoyable to see. They aren't used to being taken on, and don't seem to know what to do when suddenly confronted with an Asian competitor the likes of which they've never dealt with so far.

Isn't this classic behavior when bullies are shown up??

Even in filmi style, it could not have been choreographed better.

According to chini spin doctors, it was raining when Modi arrived. He was given a covered walkway whereas the other heads of state were made to suffer in the rain. Eat that dhokla.

It shouldn't matter really ... except to highlight the nature of the Chinese regime. Make him more determined when dealing with China at least that is my hope. You cannot control what others do but you do control what you can do.

swamy has had a special relationship with the hans for the longest time now. He can get things done from them that no Indian govt can.

He is smart enough not to burn any bridges and that's how it should be.

Give him the space that he needs because he has India's interests at heart, first, last and always.

If China really meant a slight then it shows that they are completely shaken after the Doklam episode to even function normally regarding protocols.

:rotfl: What a pathetic bunch of losers. This was so totally expected. "He humiliated us publicly and made us look impotent in front of the world. So lets not do the gangway state welcome parade for him. That'll teach him." Modi probably  at being able to twist them around his finger like this.

Saw the video - there was no rain, there was no PLA, just a very nice welcome with a jolly colorful dancing group. Where did people get all these reports?
Guard of Honor came later, with National Anthems, swords and all.

In contrast, welcome to Putin was MUCH stiffer and more formal: car came up practically 20 yards from plane, and he was escorted past a line of bayonet-mounted cheen soldiers like American TSA. No jolly crowd of dancers, no laughter, no big friendship, just formality. All over in seconds. I loved the welcome for India far far more than that!

I saw this video. Something fishy about the date.

In the speech itself, somewhere there is a mention by Modi of 'here in Shangai' so I think it is not in Xiamen. At another location, Modi talks about "after 3 days in China, I am going to Mongolia, tomorrow Sunday" (and makes a joke about govt official working on a Sunday) whereas today is Sunday, and he got there only today. So I think this is an older video from his previous trip sometime. (ALso, Modi is scheduled to visit Burma after the BRICS meet, not Mongolia). I dont understand how it was posted today and garnered 500K+ views.

(Its too long to watch for 40 minutes, but if the terror parts are still relevant (given the vintage of the speech), please provide the time-points in the video and I'll translate).

IIRC, his 2 year back trip video since he had visited Mongolia and SoKo after China trip

PRC has played its needle game of exploding n-bombs or causing stand-offs during a visit of senior state power holder, again.

Instead of the n-bomb in lop-nur, it's done in NK this time.

Please don't forget who are we dealing with.

Fully agree with SuSwamy's interests and intentions here. The point I am making is that BRICS is a multilateral organization of equals, and not one with China in the front and center, and I wished he had cut them down to size. Anyway he did answer the interviewer's question to the point and it's entirely likely that there were more questions which were edited out...

The video on Youtube purportedly Modi's welcome for BRICS was from an earlier trip, the location is Xi'an airport. This time it was very much a jetbridge story.

Putin got the Merc, the others got local Chinese FAW Hongqi limos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAW_Group ... 46376).jpg which have glorious history with Chinese characteristics.

This page has some great images and video http://www.financialexpress.com/india-n ... ng/839872/

1. Watch Modi cockily walk to Xi for handshake. He has a bounce in his step that I have not seen before, and smartly dressed too.
2. Still pictures as well as handshake show no Xi t, ie still constipated.
3. In the group picture Modi is at the right corner, alls not well. In some previous pictures, Modi and Putin were at Xi's sides.
4. As some others have pointed out that dance welcome video is likely from a different time. The current welcome picture is in this link.

The official arrival and welcome by Xi of the 4 other leaders at the summit venue. Watch from 20:00 onwards when Xi receives and shakes hands with the other 4 sequentially on stage. My take is that the Xi showed genuine warmth only when greeting Putin. For Zuma and the Brazilian President he kind off just went through the motions almost as if they were wasting his time. For Modi I could not quite place it....Modi shook his hand a lot longer than the others, Xi looked irritated I think, maybe also tense, he certainly did not look happy...

Modi kept shaking Xi's hand and actually pulled the carpet from under Xis feet because the length and vigor of the handshake were meant for the TV cameras. "I have no rancour. We are friends - or at least we have a cordial relationship" is what Modi was signalling. This can be used against him - and it will, by Indian opposition parties - but it has certain advantages for the domestic audience as well. "Modi is not a warmonger, He does not seek war" is what he is saying IMO and he will surely use this to his advantage. Modi has now been top dog in his environs for 18 years - and that is longer than most leaders. He has an eye for media aesthetics.

Modi was actually saying picture-wise,"I can handle you and your mischief too!",pun intended. The smile and effusive handshake was also meant to say,Doklam was water off a duck's back to the intl. community who would be watching for such body-lingo signals. XI Gins artificial smile of constipation showed that he had probably had one too many the night before. He boys,is ion real trouble. The Doklam incident not being a clear "victory" for China was a jolt to the Zhongnanhai braggarts and the almost continuous criticism by the Trumpeteer over the NoKo equation, has shown the world of China's limitations and impotence in keeping NoKo to heel, something that never used to happen before when far stronger NoKo leaders like the Kims, father and son, were in power.

The coolest customer at BRICS is pres. Putin, who is gleefully watching the fun. The US has "gone over Niagra" in its diplomatic spat with Russia,at a time when it should instead be courting ti to help resolve issues suchlike (NoKo). Xi GIns is so impotent over the NoKo crisis that he can neither take real steps to harm NoKo,imposing steep sanctions, or ask the US to pipe down from its own N-rhetoric. "The Congress is coming",very soon and XI Gins and his ambitions might suffer if he cannot handle his impish neighbour. At the very least he should send a Chin delegation to NoKo to discuss and debate the issue.if wants to revive his own personal fortunes,If he succeeds, this charismatic global hit could get a Nobel for himself too!

It is a win for India. We failed to name LeT and JeM in Goa declaration. Now, this should hurt both Cheen and Pakistan. How can Cheen justify putting technical hold on JeM chief when BRICs declaration on its soil condemned them by name.

My guess is that China wouldn't extend the tech hold on Azar when it expires next. That may be one of the things they may have bargained away to get a face saver on Doklam.
