Despite Orders from Buj Bahadur Terroristani Police "Phyr" on Islamic Religious Zealots!

Pakistan police fire rubber bullets to disperse Islamist sit-in

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani forces fired rubber bullets and lobbed tear gas at protesters in Islamabad on Saturday as they moved to disperse an Islamist sit-in that has virtually paralysed the country's capital for weeks.

The roughly 8,500 elite police and paramilitary troops in riot gear began clearing the 2,000 or so demonstrators soon after dawn, with nearby roads and markets closed.

The sit-in by the little-known hardline group called Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah Pakistan has blocked a main highway used by thousands of commuters since November 6, causing hours-long traffic snarls and enraging commuters.

The protesters are demanding that Pakistan's law minister Zahid Hamid resign over a hastily-abandoned amendment to the oath that election candidates must swear.

Demonstrators have linked it to blasphemy -- a highly contentious issue in Muslim Pakistan -- and claim the oath was softened to enable the participation of Ahmadis, a long-persecuted Islamic minority sect. But, But Buj Bahadur is an Ahmadi!

AFP reporters at the scene said small scuffles had broken out as protesters hurled rocks at police. Others were detained as security forces began to clear the site. Some ambulances could be seen in the area but it was not clear if there had been any injuries.

Television images showed people standing on top of freight containers that had blocked the roads around the sit-in, and plumes of smoke filling the air.

An Islamabad police official said that the operation sought to avoid any loss of life on either side.

The sit-in has already cost the life of at least one eight-year-old child whose ambulance could not reach a hospital in time due to the blocked roads, a statement from Pakistan's Supreme Court confirmed this week.

Despite the protest's relatively small size, authorities have hesitated to act against it, citing fears of violence as the demonstrators have vowed to die for their cause.

But government inaction has drawn the fury of the courts as well as millions of residents in Islamabad and neighbouring Rawalpindi. The Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court have issued blistering criticism and threatened to hold officials in contempt for their inaction.

Analysts and critics have accused the government of bungling its response to the protest, and allowing a minor issue to grow into a headline-grabbing and potentially dangerous situation.

It set an alarming precedent, that "anytime anyone is upset with the government, the capital may be choked and the government will bend its knees," warned Zeeshan Salahuddin of the Center for Research and Security Studies, a think tank in Islamabad.

Phynalli we have ACTION!

Policeman martyred, over 190 injured in Islamabad clashes

ISLAMABAD: A policeman was martyred and over 190 people including police officers were injured as forces on Saturday moved to disperse a sit-in that has virtually paralysed the country´s capital for weeks. YEH DIL MANGAY MORE!

Smoke and tear gas filled the air as the roughly 8,500 elite police and paramilitary troops in riot gear were also seen throwing rocks and using slingshots in the ongoing bid to clear 2,000 or so hardline demonstrators which began soon after dawn.

AFP reporters at the site said more protesters were arriving, though it was difficult to tell how many. Trees had been cut down to block roads, and protesters were burning tyres.

Pakistan´s media regulator barred local TV channels from broadcasting live images from the scene as violence intensified.

At least 110 injured people have been taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, a spokesman from the hospital told AFP, adding that 66 of them were members of the security forces.

An Islamabad police spokesman confirmed that a policeman was martyred in the fighting after he was struck in the head by a rock. Television footage showed a police van and demonstrators´ tents on fire.

Local media reported that small protests -- each with several dozen TLYRAP supporters -- were breaking out in other cities, including Karachi and Lahore, as the Islamabad operation dragged on through Saturday.

An Islamabad police official had said before the violent clashes that the operation sought to avoid any loss of life on either side.

Police said a policeman died of head injuries at a local hospital. The policeman was injured when protesters pelted the forces with stones in I-8-4 area of the city.

An emergency has been declared in the hospitals of the federal capital in the wake of the crackdown.

Complying with court orders, the district administration of Islamabad earlier on Friday had issued final warning to protesters to clear Faizabad interchange and other main roads by midnight.

On Friday, Islamabad High Court ordered the federal capital administration to end the ongoing Faizabad sit-in by Sunday.

The protesters belonging to religious parties — Tehreek-i-Khatm-i-Nabuwwat, Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) and the Sunni Tehreek Pakistan (ST) —are calling for the sacking of Law Minister Zahid Hamid and strict action against those behind the amendment to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017. The amendment had earlier been deemed a ‘clerical error’ and has already been rectified.

The protesters had occupied the Faizabad Bridge which connects Rawalpindi and Islamabad through the Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road, both of which are the busiest roads in the twin cities.

"Here's another fine mess you have got me into, Stanley"! - Ollie

As LNG imports rise, refineries brace for imminent closure

KARACHI: The government is stepping up imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the expense of domestic oil refineries, which face the prospect of closure as they are finding it difficult to find consumers of expensive furnace oil because power plants based on relatively cheaper LNG are gradually coming on stream.

Industry sources said the refineries would stop producing petroleum products one after another very soon since supplies of furnace oil had plunged to zero following closure of 10 oil-fired power plants on the orders of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi due to the gradual start of LNG power plants in the winter season.

“The oil storage capacity is brimming with furnace oil; we cannot continue producing refined petroleum products, including jet fuel, petrol, diesel and kerosene oil in coming days,” an industry official said.

“We may not be able to operate if the current situation continues for over 8 to 10 days,” said a high official of Byco Petroleum, which runs the country’s largest refinery of 120,000 barrels per day.

An official of Attock Refinery painted an even grimmer picture, saying they would close the refinery if the situation persisted for three to four more days.

The sudden closure of oil-based power plants coincided with 100% increase in the country’s LNG import capacity to 1,200 million cubic feet per day after the second LNG terminal came on line at Port Qasim on Monday.

A source explained that all petroleum products were produced in one go and it was impossible for the refineries to stop producing furnace oil and continue to churn out other products.

The halt to the refineries’ operations would also impact oil exploration and production in the country.

“If things do not get better, a shortage of petroleum products may emerge at filling stations, which will lead to increased imports of refined petroleum products,” a source cautioned.

Refineries meet 30% (around 8-9 million tons) of the domestic demand while the rest is met through imports.

The situation aggravated when oil marketing companies kept importing furnace oil due to increasing demand, mainly from power producers.

PSO paying demurrages :rotfl:

An official said a ship carrying 55,000 tons of furnace oil has been waiting for offloading its cargo since November 10 as the storages were full.

“(State-owned) Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has imported the oil and has been paying $15,000 per day in demurrages since November 10,” the official added.

PSO, the largest oil marketing company with over 56% market share in Pakistan, is set to receive three more ships before the end of November with cargo totalling 250,000 tons and another three vessels will bring 200,000 tons in December.

“Oil has been imported to meet the demand raised by the power plants via government channels,” a source said.

Other oil marketing companies are also facing a similar situation.

Solutions under consideration

The government is considering many options to resolve the crisis, including cancelation of furnace oil import orders which will lead to payment of penalties and/or resuming oil-fired power plants.

The Ministry of Energy, oil refineries and marketing companies have been holding meetings for the past one week or so. Now, the decision has to be taken by the prime minister, according to industry officials.

An industry source said two oil-fired power plants, out of the 10 closed ones, had resumed production to consume furnace oil stocks and ease the pressure off refineries.

Besides, the Ministry of Energy is determined to stop further furnace oil imports to help stabilise refineries. “The ministry is expected to notify the ban on imports tomorrow (Saturday),” he said.

Pakistan calls on army as violent clashes leave 6 dead, over 200 injured

ISLAMABAD: Six people were killed and another 200 injured on Saturday as police launched an operation to clear Islamist protesters from an intersection linking the Pakistani capital with the garrison city of Rawalpindi, doctors at local hospitals said. The protest triggered demonstrators to take to the streets of other cities across the country in solidarity, bringing them to a virtual standstill.

The Pakistani government has called on the powerful military to deploy in the capital Islamabad. The request was made by Islamabad Capital Territory authorities, according to an interior ministry order, which said the federal government had authorised the deployment of "sufficient troops" to "control law and order" in the city until further notice.

Dr Masood Safdar of Benazir Bhutto Hospital said five civilians arrived dead from bullets wounds. Dr Tariq Niazi of the Holy Family Hospital confirmed the death of a young man who was shot in head during the violence at Faizabad intersection and the surrounding area.

Hundreds of police in riot gear had moved in against the supporters of the Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah party early Saturday after a deadline expired at midnight. The police action and reaction from protesters, who had camped out at the venue for the last 20 days, sent scores of injured police and protesters to hospitals with injuries caused by stoning and respiratory problems from tear gas. Hospital officials said near 200 people were injured, most of them police.

News of the police intervention spread quickly, prompting sympathizers in cities round the country to take to the streets in a show of solidarity with the Islamabad protesters. The situation prompted the country's regulatory body for electronic media to take TV broadcasts off the air. Key social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were also blocked. Government officials were not immediately available for comment on the situation.

Taking note of a worsening situation, military chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa telephoned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to call for the peaceful handling of the protest, according to a tweet by military spokesman Maj. Gen Asif Ghafoor.

Senior police officer Ismatullah Junejo said police were swiftly clearing the venue as some 300 protesters ignored the final warning to disperse. He said none of the police carried firearms to avoid loss of life, instead using only tear gas and a water cannon to disperse the protesters. But witnesses said at one point a police van came under attack and was set on fire after two police officers aimed assault rifles at protesters.

Police lobbed tear gas canisters and deployed the water cannon while surrounding and arresting dozens of protesters who resisted by throwing rocks. The riot police used batons against protesters who resisted.

The government had made several attempts to resolve the stalemate through negotiations with the protesters, who demanded the resignation of a law minister over an omitted reference to the Prophet Muhammad in a parliamentary bill.
The minister, Zahid Hamid, apologized for the omission - a phrase saying that Muhammad is the last prophet in Islam - saying it was a clerical error that was later corrected.

But protest leaders were adamant and refused to clear the intersection unless the law minister resigned.

Saturday's action came after a court ordered an end to the protest because it was disrupting daily life.

Officials said that more than 150 people, including police, were injured in the rock throwing and taken to three hospitals in the area. Dr. Mohammad Altaf Hussain, at Islamabad's main hospital, said 186 people were brought from the rally with minor injuries and respiratory problems. He said among them were 106 police. More than 20 injured were taken to other hospitals.

Television footage showed police initially taking control of the bridge where the protesters were camped out. Some protesters could be seen throwing stones at police. The images showed an area engulfed in thick smoke from tear gas and black smoke from burned tents.

Later in the morning, seminary students from Rawalpindi reinforced the protesters who pushed back police and Frontier Constabulary forces. Witnesses said a group of baton-carrying protesters snatched a tear gas gun and a few shells from a constable and lobbed them at police.

Enraged protesters also torched three police vans, two civilian vehicles, three two motorcycles and damaged two television station vehicles used for live coverage. They also ransacked a newly built metro bus terminal near the venue.

Later in the day, security forces appeared to face difficulty clearing the crucial intersection as more and more supporters joined protesters at the site, a bridge between the capital and Rawalpindi. Police and civil administrators met to formulate a strategy to resolve the situation.

State television stations reported that security forces had temporarily suspended their operations. They reported that police arrested around 150 protesters, some with knives and pistols.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal told state television that the government had shown patience in dealing with the protesters.

"The administration is taking action under court order but still we are open for talks with them," he said, referring to the protesters. Ahsan said that some among the protesters wanted to create chaos and destabilization in the country.

Some protesters who escaped the operation later gathered at a main street in Rawalpindi blocking it and suspending traffic by throwing stones at moving vehicles.

In Karachi, groups of people gathered at three crucial venues blocking streets in protest against the police action in Islamabad. When police used tear gas to disperse them amid the traffic rush hours, protesters threw stones wounding 20 people, including two journalists.

Protesters in groups of various sizes also took to the streets in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Layyah, Vihari, Dera Ghazi Khan and others cities in Punjab province and in the northwestern city of Peshawar, as well as in southern city of Hyderabad, to show solidarity with the Islamabad protesters.

In Lahore, an unruly mob torched a vehicle and damaged others with stoning and staged sit-ins at four key areas in the city.

Malik Mohammad Ahmed, the spokesman for Punjab government, said enraged protesters in Rawalpindi attacked the residence of the former interior minister, Chaudhry Nisar, damaging the main gate. He added that they wounded lawmaker Javed Latif in Shaikhupura, hitting him in the head with a stone, and that a furious crowd attacked Law Minister Zahid Hamid's villa in Pasroor, ransacking the place.

Trump admin cracks down on release of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, warns Pakistan of repercussions

WASHINGTON: The White House on Saturday came down heavily on Pakistan for the release of its state-coddled Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Hafiz Saeed, warning that there will be "repercussions for bilateral relations and for Pakistan's global reputation" if he is not immediately re-arrested and prosecuted.

In an extraordinarily strong statement on the subject, the White House just stopped short of calling Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism, saying the country's failure to prosecute or charge Saeed, "sends a deeply troubling message about Pakistan's commitment to combatting international terrorism and belies Pakistani claims that it will not provide sanctuary for terrorists on its soil."

It also called Saeed a "notorious terrorist" and pointed out that "a clear international consensus" exists regarding Saeed's culpability - he was designated by the United Nations under UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December 2008 and the Department of the Treasury has designated him a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

"As President Donald Trump's South Asia policy makes clear, the United States seeks a constructive relationship with Pakistan, but expects decisive action against militant and terrorist groups on Pakistani soil that are a threat to the region. The release of Saeed is a step in the wrong direction. The Pakistani government now has an opportunity to demonstrate its seriousness in confronting all forms of terrorism, without distinction, by arresting and charging Hafiz Saeed for his crimes," the White House said.

Coming on the heels of a similar, but less potent statement from the State Department+ , the White House missive suggests President Trump's bare-knuckled style had kicked into action, unconstrained by diplomatic niceties that tie down the Secretary of State. It now remains to be seen if Pakistan will fall in line, and what the White House will do if it does not.

The statement also distances the White House from the US Congress that last week changed a provision in a defense bill that would have required Islamabad to take steps to "significantly disrupt" the activities of both LeT and the Haqqani network. The new version of the bill restricted the requirement only to the Haqqani group, giving the impression Washington was not particularly concerned about LeT, Saeed, and their activities on the eastern front.

Previous administrations handled Pakistan with kid gloves despite compelling evidence of its use of terrorism and terrorist groups to further its policy objective, fearful that Washington did not have sufficient leverage to handle a state that threatens to go rogue when confronted. But by bluntly calling out Pakistan and its terrorist ward, the Trump White House has cornered Islamabad.

There is no official statement of this sort in the whitehouse.gov web site, nor any press briefing by press secretary this week.

This rudderless ship is about to change course once again.

They (the fauj) are I suspect preparing for:
1. A govt of technocrats lead by retired faujis
2. An attack on Iran using their jihadi forces.
Gagan Ji :

I beg to differ. Terroristan will never OFFICIALLY go War with Iran!

Sir ji
Who said anything about war?
Officially toh Pakistan is not at war with India even.
That does not stop them from using the "Dushman Mulq" designation towards India.
Even as they have been sponsoring terrorism against India since their inception

The fauj will have to stick the blame on someone for this.
They've already dismissed Nawaz, so he can't be blamed any more.
Looks like Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's shaamat (calamity) has arrived. Allah rehem kare is nanhi si jaan par :rotfl:

Or...
They might still blame Nawaz and confisticate all his property and factories.
Rumour is that Nawaz has sold off his Raiwind Mansion to someone, or atleast transferred the name in someone else's name.

But the end of Democracy as the world knows it is right around the corner.
Some crore kammandus might take early retirement to be eligible for the posts in the technocrat government

Is KSA behind this agitation? A theocratic sunni dictatorship in Pakistan at war with Iran is a godsend for them.

PPP gone, MQM gone, now PMLN gone. Meanwhile PTI remained fauj pasand. So the army could experiment with PTI.

There is another possibility. What if these yahoos are not backed by the army. What if the army has shoot in pakistan's foot by going after all political parties. And now these groups are trying to fill political void. In recent times many such fringe groups have surfaced. Not the coincident. If you notice only extreme religious political force can tame the army. Those foreign based, suit boot wearing, english educated MQM, PPP, PMLN can easily be dominated by the army. But not these yahoos. If these yahoos come in power they WILL control the army. Fk they will kick out those whiskey drinking generals and replace them with real mulla warriors. Hell, not a single army backed media channel can bad mouth religious yahoo run government. Point is, if not army then it would be interesting to understand where the funding is coming from.

Army will then have two options. Either coup or keep old political parties breathing.

1. Gagan bhai, democracy? When did it come and from where..the ruhani constitution??

2. Schinnas, Very plausible. MBS has weeding out (both types) for quite some time. Pliant PA would be his dream come true. But my sense was that it was rawalpindi who refused to go to yemen. But then in pakistan anything is possible and army may be getting back at him (again) for "kargil cheating".
If that happens it will not be good for India, for pakis would extract their pounds from KSA for a help and we all know where that money goes

3. Abhi, What are you saying AK47 weilding yahoos can beat the TFTA F16 flying PAF :rotfl: :rotfl: (not at you, but at the plight of pakis). That said, again if there is a civil war there (my wet dream) which side would india support (some or all? )

Has China thought of a new name for the "China-Pakistan-Exploitation-Corridor" hain ji?

These benevolent souls were offering to change the name.

The Pakis were calling Indians "Hindoo Buniyas" all these years - wonder what they call the Cheenis in their private conversations ?

One, these yahoos are absolutely backed by the Army, whose game is pretty obvious in the current situation.

Two, the army/ISI is not a necessarily a monolithic entity when Jihadis are involved. For example the Lal Masjid incident where the pompous dog loving whiskey swilling phony Kamandu ordered action against the Jihadis that others in the Army/ISI had propped up and supported.
