Late Brig RayC had similar comments on INSAS polymer magazines and he was a participant in that fight.

Couldnt the INSAS LMG have a commando variant? Shorter barrel, box fed, folding stock, foregrip and oh, black colour :-)

Wow, using Google Translate on that thread shows what looks to be an insane amount of racist crap being spewed on Indians. An eye-opener certainly. And yet most Indians are still delusional about Russians being some kind of eternal friend (and the only trusted one).

Sorry for the OT.
Thanks. I've removed the link to that site. No point in sending more traffic there. My mistake for not translating. I was only interested in the pics and didn't bother.

Short barrel would be a disaster for INSAS LMG, which would take away it's most redeeming quality, accuracy It has been known to use INSAS LMG with scope in a DMR role. Rest sounds like a thicker barrel with Insas mk1c layout.
Image
INSAS already uses box magazines, now there are dubious sources on the internet that say INSAS can accept STANAG magazines, I doubt to see how that is possible because even if magazine dimensions are similar, INSAS magazine uses rock and lock system with latches on front and rear of magazine.
Image

Whereas STANAG magazines have notch on the left of the magazine for holding it in place. I have never had a look inside INSAS magwell, nor are there any pictures available to confirm the same.

INSAS LMG and UBGL are two small arms which are being rapidly inducted into the Army in last 5 years at the rate of around 5000-8000 each per annum.

The Russians seem to be using AK-74s. The 103s belong to Marcos.

https://twitter.com/sjha1618/status/938464207120375809 --> As far as OFB's R-2 7.62 × 51 mm assault rifle is concerned, the Army wants a prototype that can fire over 2000 rounds continuously without any stoppages. OFB says they'll be back soon.

JVPCs, Ghatak AKMs and Excalibur Mk-1 (not INSAS or Mk-1C) in production. Excalibur Mk-1 comes with a short picatinny rail where dovetail rail used to be. You can tell it is not Mk-1C because of the stamped steel construction instead of milled aluminium.

^^ Quite accurate too. But at 30+ kgs so heavy to carry and the recoil is almost a shoulder cracker to the inexperienced.

The Croatians with their lighter single shot RT-20, tried to solve the recoil issue by adding a counter-recoil reactive tube above the gun barrel, to funnels gasses from the cartridge out the back end. It didn't solve the problem entirely.. and IMHO made it ergonomically worse for the shooter.

^^ Before the 84 mm Charlie-g, the swedes had a 20 mm recoilless rifle, m42, again from M/s Carl Gustaf, which was reasonably successful. The rifle pushed the boundaries of recoil and carry weight was around 11 kgs. It used ammunition closer to 23 mm Soviet cannon round, but most of the gases exited through the venturi tube at the rear. I think the idea deserves a rethink today.

Wow. Could you share some links please. Would like to see the construct and material used.

And you are right. Definitely worth a relook. The nature of today's asymmetrical conflicts do afford a place for older simpler and economical weapons.
(I think Shiv saar had started a thread on the same as well)

MKU has purchased the production license of DRDO's bullet proof jacket .

Meanwhile, good news on procurement of BPJ, all three Indian firms competing for the tender have qualified, whereas last time around, all had failed forcing army to go for emergency procurement of 50,000 jackets that were not GSQR compliant. The delivery of those jackets has been completed.

Pistol caliber conversion of M4 carbine in service with Telangana police.

^^ This seems like a wasteful expenditure. Buying M4 for SWAT roles seems alright, but there are cheaper alternates to cost of M4 + 9 mm conversion kit.
