Its already causing deep consternation in Democrats, Conservative Republicans and kicked out SD officials.

Wonder how many Arabist SD people are going to quit?

Good. Call the malsi bluff.

'em malsi countries reckon that the spectre of pious beards rioting and blowing up stuff should instill enough fear and deterrence against doing the right thing as and when such goes against malsic interests.

Well, now if they riot, as Harrison Ford would say, "Go ahead, make my day."

Yes," Delerium Tremens " has shocked the globe by his latest chess move, the "Jerusalem Gambit"! But will there truly be a united Islamic front against Israel and the US as a result? One clue may be new arms sales with Russia obtaining new markets from ME tyrants, wanting to reduce their dependency on Uncle Sam.

Us shifting our consulate to Jerusalem would be great message to everyone, both inside India and outside. But will NM risk antagonize Iran and other countries. Me thinks, we'll play safe for few years and see how things will be.

DT's decision, dumps the decades old UN resolutions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which will inflame Arab/Islamic sentiment in the streets. It runs the risk of reopening another round of anti-Israeli terror, etc., further bloodshed and violence which will impinge upon Israel's security and peace of mind. All-that-Jazz had this on its site about DT's controversial decision.India should adopt a wait and see policy,as it in actual fact delivers very little gain, but would incur huge losses given our massive worker-force footprint in the Gulf and ME.

DT's sudden decision may be due to his feeling of insecurity over the Russian hacking allegations the investigation of which is gripping the nation.Wag the dog,Donald! DT probably hopes that the ultra-powerful Jewish lobby in Washington will relent upon the increasing possibility of him being impeached! :rotfl:

US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital on Wednesday, overturning decades of international consensus on the highly contested city, half of which was occupied and annexed by Israel following the 1967 War.

In 1980, Israel passed a law that declared Jerusalem the "complete and united" capital of Israel, in violation of international law.

The Palestinians, however, see East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

Al Jazeera highlights the numerous resolutions made by the United Nations and its bodies regarding the city since the 1967 conflict.

UN Security Council
Resolution 242: November 22, 1967, the unanimously adopted resolution called on Israel to withdraw its armed forces from territories occupied in the 1967 conflict.

Resolution 250: April 27, 1968, asked Israel not to hold a military parade in Jerusalem.

Resolution 251: May 2, 1968, condemned Israel holding the military parade in Jerusalem.

Resolution 252: May 21, 1968, asked Israel to cancel all activities in Jerusalem, and condemned the occupation of any land through armed aggression. It also demanded Israel "desist from taking any further action which tends to change the status" of the city.

Resolution 267: July 3, 1969, confirmed resolution 252, reaffirming that "acquisition of territory by military conquest is inadmissible".

Resolution 271: September 15, 1969, condemned the extensive damage caused by arson to the Holy Al Aqsa Mosque, a building under the military occupation of Israel. It called on Israel to observe the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and "refrain from causing any hindrance to the discharge of the established functions of the Supreme Muslim Council of Jerusalem", including "its plans for the maintenance and repair of the Islamic Holy Places" within the city.

Resolution 298: September 25, 1971, confirmed in "the clearest possible terms" that all actions taken by Israel to change the status of Jerusalem, such as land confiscation, were illegal.

Resolution 465: March 1, 1980, demanded Israel to stop the planning and construction of settlements in territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem. It also called on Israel to "dismantle the existing settlements".

Resolution 476: June 30, 1980, reaffirmed the "overriding necessity for ending the prolonged occupation of Arab territories occupied by Israel since 1967" and reiterated that all measures which had altered the status of Jerusalem were "null and void" and had to be rescinded.

Resolution 478: August 20, 1980, condemned in "the strongest terms" the enactment of Israeli law proclaiming a change in status of Jerusalem. The resolution called on all states "that have established diplomatic missions" in Jerusalem to withdraw them from the city.

Resolution 672: October 12, 1990, expressed alarm at the violence which claimed more than twenty Palestinian lives at the al-Aqsa Mosque on October 8, 1990. The resolution condemned the acts of violence committed by Israeli security forces and referred to Israel as an "occupying power".

Resolution 1073: September 28, 1996, expressed concern about developments in Jerusalem relating to Israel's opening of an entrance to a tunnel near the al-Aqsa Mosque, which resulted in a number of civilian deaths, and called for "the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians to be ensured".

Resolution 1322: October 7, 2000, denounced the visit made by Israeli opposition leader, Ariel Sharon, to the al-Aqsa Mosque and the "subsequent violence there and at other holy places" which resulted in more than 80 Palestinian deaths.

Resolution 1397: March 12, 2002, called on Palestinian and Israeli leaders to resume the peace process through negotiations regarding a political settlement.

Resolution 2334: December 23, 2016, condemned Israel's construction of settlements in all territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. The UNSC emphasised it would not recognise any changes to the pre-1967 conflict lines, and stressed that the "cessation of all Israeli settlement activities is essential for salvaging the two-State solution".

UN General Assembly
Resolution 2253: July 4, 1967, expressed concern at Israel’s attempts to change the status of Jerusalem and called for "all measures already taken" to be rescinded and no further such action.

Resolution 36/15: October 28, 1981, determined that Israel’s transformation of Jerusalem, including historical, cultural and religious sites, constituted a "flagrant violation of the principles of international law". Such acts, the resolution stated, "constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East".

Resolution 55/130: February 28, 2001, demanded that Israel cooperate with a special committee set up to "investigate Israeli practices affecting the human rights of Palestinian people and other Arabs" in the occupied territories. The resolution expressed "grave concern" about the situation in Jerusalem "as a result of Israeli practices and measures … [especially] the excessive use of force … which has resulted in more than 160 Palestinian deaths".

Resolution 10/14: December 12, 2003, requested the International Court of Justice to provide an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel's construction of a wall in the "Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem".

Resolution 60/104: January 18, 2006, requested the Special Committee, "pending complete termination of the Israeli occupation", continue to investigate Israeli actions in "the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and other Arab territories" since 1967.

Resolution 70/89: December 15, 2015, condemned the continuation of Israeli occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, as a violation of international law. The resolution also denounced Israel’s "unlawful construction" of a wall inside occupied territories, including "in and around East Jerusalem".

Resolution 71/96: December 23, 2016, reaffirmed that the Geneva Convention, relative to the protection of civilians during conflict, was applicable to the "Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and other Arab territories occupied by Israel since 1967".

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)
150: November 27, 1996, stated the "Old City of Jerusalem" was inscribed on the endangered world heritage list, and labelled Israel's opening of an entrance to a tunnel near the al-Aqsa Mosque "an act which has offended religious sensibilities in the world".

159: June 15, 2000, expressed concern at "the measures which continue to impede the free access of Palestinians to Jerusalem".

184: April 2, 2010, expressed "deep concern" regarding Israeli archeological works, including excavations, at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem. The resolution stated the works "contradict UNESCO decisions and conventions".

192: January 13, 2014, criticised Israel’s "continuous, [and] intrusive" archeological demolitions, excavations and works in East Jerusalem.

196: May 22, 2015, stated "deep regret" at Israel's "refusal to implement previous UNESCO decisions concerning Jerusalem" and called for the deployment of a permanent expert to East Jerusalem "to report on a regular basis about all the aspects covering all UNESCO fields of competence in East Jerusalem".

202: November 18, 2017, expressed regret at Israel's refusal to "implement the UNESCO request … to appoint a permanent representative to be stationed in East Jerusalem", and stressed the "urgent need to implement the UNESCO reactive monitoring mission to the Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls".

Russia ready to help US destroy Islamic State terrorists in Iraq

Military & Defense December 06, 20:32 UTC+3
All Islamic State's units in Syria have been destroyed, head of Russia's General Staff said earlier

MOSCOW, December 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Defense Ministry is ready to hold talks with US counterparts on assisting them to destroy fighters of the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) in Iraq’s western regions, Russian First Deputy Defense Minister General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the General Staff, said at an annual briefing for foreign military attaches on Wednesday.
"The attention of the international counterterrorism coalition should be focused on how to destroy militants in Iraq’s western regions in order to prevent the ISIL comeback [former name of Islamic State - TASS] to Syria and how to exclude the revival of Islamic Caliphate there, but not on deployment of own military bases in Syria," Gerasimov said.
"We are ready to hold dialogue and join American counterparts in solving this issue," he said.

The US-led coalition's fight against terrorism in Syria
The US-led coalition has failed to achieve any serious success in the fight against terrorists in Syria, Gerasimov added.

"Contrary to the statements by our Western partners, the operations of the international anti-terror coalition led by the United States have not yielded any considerable successes on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic," the general said.
"The coalition forces only liberated the city of Raqqa in 2017 and its siege and storming lasted 11 months," he said.
"However, as a result of the coalition’s air strikes, Raqqa was 90% destroyed and became actually unsuitable for living," the chief of Russia’s General Staff said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that the coalition’s aircraft had delivered strikes over the past month less than the Russian air task force used to deliver over a day.

India should ....
A bit of perspective, please? All that has happened is that ONE country of of 200+? UN members, has said they MIGHT shift their Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. What does this have to do with India? AFAIK, Israel has not shifted its international airport to Jerusalem. What is the need for India to do (or worse, say) anything at all?
US will now spend $B constructing a fortress in Jerusalem for the embassy, and on the motorcades to and from it since there is no safe airport there. If India is that keen on having a presence close to the US embassy in Israel, India can set up a Consulate there.

If a Real SuperPower like China or Pakistan moves its embassy, that would be news.
Diplomatic missions in Israel refers to foreign embassies and consulates in Israel. There are currently over 86 embassies in Tel Aviv and the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area (not including honorary consulates).
Previously some states maintained embassies in Jerusalem, but currently they are all relocated to Tel Aviv with the last post-1982 being these of Costa Rica and El Salvador whose relocation was announced in August 2006. On December 6, 2017 United States President Donald Trump announced that the US Embassy to Israel would be moved to Jerusalem.

Nothing to do with Malsi religion. Simple and most compact way to store wealth in form of 5kg frame and 40x40 inches boxes stored in a underground vaults of Geneva. How else would you store half a billion in such a safe and compact way? Diamonds 450 millions of diamonds are not even up for sale at any point in these auction houses. One can get loads of it too. It takes years to auction hundreds of diamonds in case cash is required whereas this painting is a Uber ride away to bank vault to nearest Sotheby's in Geneva, Zurich or any other international cities. There will be atleast two of these ilks who will want to buy it and hence they always makes profit on it anyway because it's estimate will start at 450 million anyway.

I am pretty sure that the wahabbi or any salafi clerics who back MBS's rule would not be pleased with promoting false gods. Anyway, the story seems to be that this is going to be on public display at the "Louvre" in Dubai. Guess Louvre is now opening a branch in Dubai.

True they will not be pleased but both house of sauds and Wahhabi maulanas are in symbiotic relationship to keep their power over people. If there is democracy like Lebanon both of these gangs will become irrelevant. So they keep their backside warm by a) by providing money to wahabbism to be exported worldwide and keeping maulana happy and b) by turning blind eye on activities of house of sauds the other way. The mediator of this cozy relationship is unkil.
If you go to Tunisian upscale clubs these Arabs are running and dancing naked over women's and in daytime the same jokers are preaching Malsi to aam Abdul's. This was 15 years back during days of my studies and a fellow Tunisian student showed me photos (hard copies before era of smartphones) to prove it. He moved to venice with family as he was pissed to with double dealing in name of religion by this jokers. Like every Tunisian he was a trained martial art expert right from school and was well disciplined and educated to not fall prey to religious misinterpretation.

I spend hours over coffee and lunch times just listening to Carthage and Berber and later Arab history of North Africa.

Agree. But this symbiotic relationship also implies that any claims made by Bin Salman about becoming all enlightened and moderate is a tactical move, and that he has no intention of doing any such thing. Buying this expensive portrait and then palming it off to UAE seems to be a way of convincing the people that run democracies that he is not a rabid islamist but a reformer who needs time and space to do his reforming.

Iran ready to make peace with Saudis: Rouhani

Iranians calling for a common united front against Israel -- demanding that KSA stop war in Yemen and stop dealing with Israel.
At the end of his speech, Rohani concluded that "Palestine has been and will remain our cause, and the United States and the Zionist regime will not succeed in their recent conspiracy, and God willing, the Islamic nations will liberate al-Quds soon."

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in June, according to Reuters, that any future war waged by Israel against Syria or Lebanon could draw in fighters from countries including Iran and Iraq.

I don't see how the Iranians are going to reconcile all of these contradictions -- KSA is the driver of the war against Syria and Lebanon and Yemen. Iranian are pretending it is all Israel's fault...lying to themselves mostly.

The West Asian GCC countries now seem to throwing a lot of silly money on Western Fighter manufacturers.

1. UAE 6.4 Billion for 80 F-16's now options etc this purchase probably exceeds 10 Billion plus upgrade of 32 M-2000-9's
2. Saudi 30 Billion for 232 F-15's overall fleet and 17 Billion for 72 Eurofighters
3. Qatar ~ 10 Billion for 36 Rafale, 12 Billion for 36 F-15 and 8 Billion for 24 Eurofighters- ~ 30 Billion for 96 fighters.

Boy in the names of Arms Sales the West is taking over all the cash from their sovereign Wealth funds. Not to Mention what Kuwait, Iraq etc are all buying.

I am sure there are some software kill switches so that they cannot do some combined air assault on Israel some day.

Indeed. This is not lost on all the weapons suppliers surely. This war happens right about the time when their oil revenues are down too. But maybe they have all become smart enough to move past this worldview of theirs that we take for granted...we'll just have to keep watching.

Thats Bullshit, it will not deter them. What deters them is conventional arms and Nukes plus a large population. It will not be in their interest to help Pakis in a war against us.

I am not saying that they will never attack us -- there is no reason for them to turn their gaze towards India at this time, given that they are busy with a knife at each other's throats. More generally, being armed with a sharp sword, with the willingness to use it without hesitation is what will protect India. But is not like wars start on a whim suddenly...surely we will all have figured it out by then on these threads if India is getting pulled in. This may still happen given the pakis are starting to use Rohingyas to foment terror on India's eastern border, which is not going to end well unless BD govt. removes all islamists in its polity..fat chance of that happening.

I think DT has a price in mind for the Yerushalem thing. My guess is a withdrawal from West Bank settlements. Whether he can force that is another question. This is so that Israel can keep the Golan Heights oil fields.

DT is not "wagging the dog", he's "flogging" it!
He's under severe pressure from Christian fundoos- his votebank, who from Dubya's time wanted to accelerate Armageddon and Christ's second coming. This votebank is essential to securing Senate and House seats at home , majority in Congress and the Senate and getting his controversial policies passed.Watch him go as he may have just started!

Houthis cause fireworks display in Riyadh.
(CNN)The Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen has said it intercepted a ballistic missile south of Riyadh on Tuesday, according to Saudi state television station Al Ekhbariya. The missile did not cause any damage. The missile was heading to a residential area in the Saudi capital, before it was intercepted, Saudi Arabia's official news agency reported. A Houthi rebel spokesperson Mohammed AbdulSalam said on his Twitter account that the rebels fired the Burkan 2H ballistic missile, targeting the prestigious Yamama Palace hotel in the Saudi capital. The Burkan missile is an Iranian-modified scud missile.
If they had hit the hotel...
Wonder what happens if they fire two near-simultaneous.

Saudi vs Qatar crisis is actually family feud spreading into palaces and religion...
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/ ... -rivalries#

to cut long story short
-Hamad father of current king of Qatar Eir Tamam still rules and pulls the strings
-Hamad was against Iraq in 1991, but fired at Saudi's royals while commandeering military
-in past 2 decades he has often taken jibe at Saudi if needed we will answer with barrel of gun
-Saudis have relations in royal families of Qatar
-Hamad rather than marrying into Attiyahs (Saudi's allegiance in Qatar) married in Thani's family
-Thani & Atiyyahs are 2 different tribes in Qatar
-Hamad also has challenged Wahabi version from Saudi, supporting democracy in past which rattled Saudis
-One of Qatar royal in past has married a UAE prince, ever since UAE has taken sides in Qatari feuds and has axe to grind

overall its complicated but has been repeated many times in Mughal past!!
