Oil Alert : Know The Oil Your Biryani And Your Nihari Is Cooked In

Lahore: PFA confiscates 2,400kg cooking oil made with animal offals, fats
LAHORE – The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Saturday confiscated a huge cache of contaminated cooking oil extracted from animal fats and offals from Lahore.
PFA Additional Director General Rafiya Haider informed media that a team of the PFA raided a factory, which was using unhealthy elements in production of the cooking oil, in Mozang.
He added that the officials have confiscated around 2400kgs of animal fats and offals and tins of different brands during the raid.
The authorities of PFA said that the factory was working secretly in the densely populated area. They added that the seized oil hazardous for humans but it could be used for making soaps and bio-diesel. So, it is a matter of a cat and mouse game between The "Food Police" and the "Food Mafia ". Of course, the victims are the "Aam Abduls" of La-Whore and not the Rich Anglasized Pakistani Elite ( otherwise known as RAPE ) for whom nothing less than khalis ghee will do for their paya and aloo gosht

From this article:
I have also quoted the head of the Eastern Command Lt. Gen. Sir Fancis Tukker, who said that from Algeria to the Arabian desert, into Persia and then northern Hindustan, we (the britshits) must create an ‘Islamic arc’ encircling the Soviet Union. The Muslim state in northern Hindustan should be armed with British science to withstand Soviet expansion. I have never seen the Cambridge School focus on such documents to expose that not only was the partition a British decision, but they bear direct responsibility for the rivers of blood which flowed as a result.

^ What Ishtiaq Ahmed has quoted was so true.

I have been following that series of articles between Yasir Latif Hamdani (the great & blind lover of Jinnah whose one point obsession is to write only articles defending the infallible Jinnah) and Ishtiaq Ahmed in DT over the last week. YLH has really been unable to defend his position and so decided to trash the scholarship of others like Dhulipala whose book 'Creating a New Medina' is a mind-bogglingly researched book which pieces together to establish the fact that "far from being a vague idea that led to an accidental creation of Pakistan, it was popularly imagined". Jinnah sought every means, compromised everywhere(except with the INC), allowed everyone to imagine the nation and promised every Islamist stakeholder everything they demanded in order to get his country.

Anyway, coming back to the point quoted above, the Great Game played over two centuries by the British has been continued by Pakistan till this day.

In circa 1813, Persian Empire had ceded Daghestan, Georgia and Abkhazia to Imperial Russia through the Treaty of Gulistan. They also ceded some Khanates like Karabakh & Baku. Later they also lost Azerbaijan. Armenia was ceded to the Russian Empire after the Treaty of Turkmenchay was signed by a defeated Persian Empire after the 1826-1828 Russo-Persian War. The Aras River became the new border of the Russian Empire. The British felt that this treaty threatened India. Therefore, during the Crimean War (1835-36), the British entered into a long-standing alliance with the Ottoman Caliphate, which also had a favourable impact on Indian Muslims. The fear of the British was that the expanding Russian empire could come to the doorsteps of its Crown Jewel, India. The British helped in firing up the Islamist fervor during the Russo-Ottoman war (1877-78) by even distributing Istanbul-produced pamphlets among Indian Muslims. This laid the foundation for a Pan-Islamist movement in India. The British might have also hoped to regain the confidence of the Indian Muslims after their action in the 1857 Freedom War and the subsequent exile of Bahadur Shah Zafar and the extinction of the Mughal Islamic Empire in India, which was already only nominal at that time. The British might have felt this as a good strategy against the Berelvis who were already fighting the British and the newly-founded Deobandis. The British fought three wars to subdue Afghanistan. The Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1878 was triggered by an unsolicited Russian diplomatic mission that reached Kabul which set the alarm bells ringing in the British minds. The c. 1885 border incident between Russian and Afghan forces prompted the British Government to sign a deal with the Russians agreeing to a border commission that drew the northern boundaries of Afghanistan. In c. 1886, Afghanistan’s western border with Russia was demarcated along the Oxus river (now renamed as Amu Darya). Four years later, in c. 1890, Britain persuaded the Tibetans to recognize the British suzerainty over Sikkim followed another three years later, in c. 1893, of demarcation of border between India and Afghanistan through a treaty valid for a hundred years. Thus was born the famous Durand Line that divided the Pashtun tribes, using the well practised British strategy of divide-and-rule. In c. 1907, Britain and Russia agreed on their respective spheres of influence in Persia & Asia with an independent Afghanistan. After the Third Anglo-Afghan War 1919-1921, Kabul got Independence from the British.

The British really expected India to fragment and so needed a stable country to thwart the southward expansion of communism (the Truman Doctrine) and protect the oilfields of the Middle East. Francis Tucker, the last General Officer-Commanding of the British Indian Eastern Command, believed that the creation “of a new Muslim power supported by the science of Britain” would “place Islam between Russian Communism and Hindustan.” Hinduism was thought too weak because of its “superstition and formalism” and therefore an easy prey to “a material philosophy such as Communism”. It was therefore deemed necessary by the British to place “Islam between Russian Communism and Hindustan”. They also needed a fuelling/transit point for flights to Far East. They also had little faith that Indian leaders will accept the British hegemony after Independence whereas a Pakistan created with the goodwill of the British will remain grateful to them. They also wanted to protect the ‘wells of power’ as Sir Olaf Caroe called the discovery of oil in the Middle East. The American President Franklin D Roosevelt is said to have told a British diplomat, “Persian oil is yours. We share the oil of Iraq and Kuwait. As for Saudi Arabian oil, it's ours.” Olaf Caroe told the Americans in the 1950s that the operations in Mesopotamia (Iraq) in WW I and in Iran in WW II were made possible from bases in Imperial India and with the independence of India he suggested replacing Imperial India with Pakistan. Thus, the Great Game was continued by the USA which promptly co-opted a more than willing Pakistan into various defence treaties by c. 1955.

Capital suggestion - The yuan

Federal Minister for Planning Professor Ahsan Iqbal has said that “Pakistan is looking for the possibility of replacing [the] dollar with [the] yuan in cross-border trade with China.” The renminbi (RMB) is the official currency of the People’s Republic of China and the yuan is the primary unit. The People’s Bank of China, the central bank of the People’s Republic of China, is the official issuer of the renminbi.

Pakistan’s GDP of $283 billion Not US$ 307 Billion as claimed by the Government of Terroristan is 2.6 percent of China’s $11 trillion GDP. And Pakistan’s GDP is a mere 0.4 percent of its $77 trillion global GDP. Our share in global exports of $16 trillion is a paltry 0.13 percent. What that means is that, whether Pakistan replaces the dollar with the yuan in cross-border trade with China or not, Pakistan’s action will not have any impact on global trade.

But, Pakistan replacing the dollar with the yuan in cross-border trade with China has major implications for Pakistan. Here’s the quantum of trade: Pakistan’s exports to China are around $1.8 billion a year and China’s exports to Pakistan hover around $14 billion a year. Resultantly, Pakistan’s trade deficit with China stands at a colossal $12 billion a year.

Red alert: Pakistan’s trade deficit with China is roughly 40 percent of Pakistan’s total trade deficit with the rest of the world. Currently, Pakistan raises dollar-debt from a wide variety of sources – including multilateral institutions like the IMF – to finance the hefty trade deficit. Once we decide to replace the dollar with the yuan in cross-border trade with China, we would be looking at China to finance the 80 billion yuan trade deficit. That would essentially mean Pakistan moving away from multi-source dependence to single-source dependence.

Red alert: In just five years of trading, our yuan-denominated indebtedness would reach 400 billion yuan or the equivalent of $60 billion. Red alert: Pakistan replacing the dollar with the yuan would mean handing over part of the State Bank of Pakistan’s monopoly over Pakistan’s monetary policy.

China certainly stands to gain. China has long been trying to make the yuan the reserve currency. Yes, China’s investments in Pakistan will face no exchange risk. In essence, it would amount to China’s projection of its economic power over Pakistan – a big geo-strategic plus for China at no added cost.

Here’s what happened in Zimbabwe, China’s other ‘all-weather friend’: between 2010 and 2015, China granted Zimbabwe over $1 billion in low-interest loans. In 2015, President Xi Jinping visited Zimbabwe and cancelled some of Zimbabwe’s China-held debts. In return, Zimbabwe made the Chinese yuan legal tender. Over time, the Zimbabwean dollar became worthless and in 2009 the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the central bank of Zimbabwe, abandoned the Zimbabwean dollar. Resultantly, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe lost all control over Zimbabwe’s monetary policy.

Under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Pakistan offered China “concessions on 6,803 tariff lines” with zero tariff rates on “electric and electronic products, machinery, chemicals and various raw materials…” The FTA has seriously hurt Pakistan as the balance of bilateral trade is heavily tilted in China’s favour.

To be certain, China and Pakistan had agreed upon a swap arrangement some six years ago. What more does China want? Is it in Pakistan’s interest to have a parallel currency? Countries fight really hard to protect their currencies. Should we surrender ours without a fight? Is it simply the adoption of the yuan as a currency of settlement? Is it a pipe-dream or is it 21st century colonisation?

Pakistan need not pay any heed to 'notices' from another country: Raza Rabbani - NO! NO!! NO!!! NOT UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING WITH IMF - WORLD BANK

Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani has said that the US appears to be continuing its decades old policy of trying to foment trouble in other countries in order to bring about regime change more sympathetic to Washington’s foreign policy goals.

Speaking at a Six Nations Speaker Conference in Islamabad on Sunday, Rabbani noted that US President Donald Trump has recently announced a new policy for American engagement in Afghanistan which implicitly admitted the superpower’s defeat in the country.

“The United States is trying to shift the blame for its defeat in Afghanistan on to Pakistan, and it consistently refuses to recognise the sacrifices of the people of Pakistan in the war on terror,” the Senate chairman said.

“Pakistan does not need to take heed of any ‘notice’ from a foreign nation. We will never sacrifice on our basic rights as a sovereign country,” Rabbani said in reference to the recent remarks on Pakistan by US Vice President Mike Pence.

Raza Rabbani also talked about the need for the leaders of Asian nations to make their own decisions on the future of their countries, or else history would never forgive them.

“Anything that does not pertain to the specific wishes of a superpower becomes controversial. The US decision of Jerusalem is altogether perplexing. The world has outrightly rejected the American announcement,” he said.

Touching on issues of national interest, the chairman also spoke to the audience about the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and how it had the potential to transform the economic fortunes of the region, ushering in a new era of prospertiy.

He said that a trilateral alliance of India-US-Israel is emerging against CPEC and it is bent on sabotaging the whole project.

“Pakistan believes in dialogue and friendly relations with its neighbours. The six-nation alliance should also play its role in rooting out extremism and sectarianism from the society. We should all adopt a new strategy to deal with threats instead of being hostage to current events.”

So, now every iota of pakhanistan's very "being" (or raisin de ittar) starts and ends with SeePak. SeePak is the basis of their salvation, existence and evolution. Used to be Cashmere. That's a lot of responsibility riding on the chini shoulders.

The count has gone up since...er... the last count (....but wait for the real reason for terrorism)

Pakistan suffered over $ 119 billion loss due to terrorism since 9/11: Ayaz
Pakistan had suffered a loss of over 119 billion dollars to its economy since 9/11 due to cowardly acts of terrorism
wait for it...
the problem had been aggravated further by the corresponding rise in the illicit drug trade, which had largely remained unchecked and throbbed as the major source of terror financing
wait for it...
Why has the global coalition against terrorism consistently failed to control and destroy the booming poppy cultivation?
wait for it...
Most of our respective countries have faced the maximum brunt either through the Al-Qaida, the Taliban, the East Turkistan Islamic Movement and now the eminent threat of the DAAISH
wait for it...
Although, religious fanaticism has been often cited as the main cause of global terrorism, let us not forget that that rise of the Populist Right and the sanctioning of oppression have also added fuel to the mayhem
Here it is...
From the burning fields of the Middle East to the denial of fundamental right of self-determination in Kashmir, the world has failed to address the root-causes of extremism
QED! Now you know why pakhanistan has lost one trillion trillion dollars (sorrrrry, yuan).

Indian Group Hacks Website of Karachi Police :P
Indian hackers have hacked the official website of Karachi Police and posted their name and logo on the website. Pakistani authorities seem to be unaware of the issue as the website is still up and running and nothing has been done so far about it. The hacker group calls itself “Mallu Cyber Soldiers” and claim that they are from Kerala region of India.
At the bottom “We Love India” is written, hackers say they are making their voice heard against “injustice and discrimination”.

Pakistan's One Consistent Policy : Promoting Peace With India Can Be Injurious To Your Health :D

In Pakistan, promoting peace with India can be bad for your health — and freedom
By Beena Sarwar December 22
Washington Post
I first heard of Raza Mahmood Khan when he went missing on Dec. 2. He has not been heard from since. His case has many similarities to that of Zeenat Shahzadi, who disappeared in August 2015. Her recovery in October this year was cause for jubilation — but not for long. She has yet to be brought before a judge or get her statement recorded. Authorities are tight-lipped about her whereabouts, and frightened family members will only say she is being treated at a medical facility. This has been the modus operandi of the "Deep State" !
Their apparent crimes? Working for improved relations with India. There is a political consensus in Pakistan for this goal that many political and social activists, writers, journalists, artists, and others openly support. What makes Khan and Shahzadi vulnerable is that they do not operate from positions of privilege or as part of larger networks. If you in a position of "authority", the "prescribed treatment", might be different . Eg: The fate of Nawaz Sharif, who expressed his desire to "improve" relations with India !
Both were picked up in bustling Lahore, capital of Punjab, Pakistan’s most populous province. Khan was taken from his rented room, Shahzadi from a bus stop. Both from humble, rural backgrounds, they were the first in their families to attend college. Although active on social media, their posts were innocuous. But their views of India — which they saw not as an enemy but as a neighbor with fellow humans and similar problems — ran contrary to Pakistan’s dominant ideological-security narrative.
hese young people with no social capital or strong support systems apparently pose a bigger security threat than the organizations that openly support militants, have a huge online presence and go door to door handing out periodicals advocating violent jihad against India. Now they have been "mainstreamed' in anticipation of the coming election !
When she went missing, Shahzadi had been working on the case of a young Indian, Hamid Ansari, who went missing in Pakistan in November 2012. Obtaining power of attorney from Ansari’s mother in Mumbai, she pursued the case with Pakistan’s judicial Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances. Her efforts led to the commission’s unprecedented inclusion of an Indian national, Ansari, on its roster.
Pakistan denied any knowledge of Ansari’s whereabouts until January 2016. Security agencies finally admitted he was in their custody, and they produced him before a military court that sentenced him to three years in prison for espionage.
The commission is hearing the cases of more than 1,400 missing persons, mostly from the restive province of Balochistan. Baloch students have recently even gone missing from Karachi University. Ironic that Khan and Shahzadi, who spoke up for missing people, have been disappeared.
The security state has long targeted progressive Pakistani politicians, poets, journalists and activists. Twin accusations of blasphemy and treason have become an additional silencing tool; both can spark lone-wolf attacks, such as those that killed Punjab governor Salman Taseer and young social entrepreneur Sabeen Mahmud.
This is not just about Raza Khan. It is also about reclaiming spaces for a more pluralistic, inclusive discourse of peace. The story reverberates beyond Pakistan to other areas where such tactics are used to silence dissent. IMO, the Pakistani "excuse" that relations with India can be normalized "once Kashmir dispute is solved", is not believable. Pakistan has not recovered yet from the 1971 shock of the loss of the "Eastern Wing" :)

Another Equal Equal Initiative

The Robin Hoods of India and Pakistan
Mubashir Zaidi
The Hindu
Some 30 youngsters gathered on a Sunday morning this month at Karsaz in Karachi. Anmol, 20, was taking a roll-call. In the next 30 minutes they all left in cars for the 13-D basti in the city’s Gulshan area. These are volunteers of Robin Hood Army Pakistan (RHA), a social initiative aimed at eliminating hunger by distributing food to poor families.
Sameer Beg, who leads the RHA in Pakistan, is happy that the wedding season has begun. Till now, the RHA has been collecting surplus food from restaurants. They have also managed to convince wedding planners and caterers to provide them surplus food, though the efforts of these youngsters may be commendable, it is yet another example of the Govt social sector responsibility being outsourced to yet another NGO for lack of funds, etc etc
The RHA was established by an Indian student, Neel Ghose, when he returned from London in 2014 after doing masters in finance. Born and brought up in Kolkata, Mr. Ghose
The RHA was established by an Indian student, Neel Ghose, when he returned from London in 2014 after doing masters in finance. Born and brought up in Kolkata, Mr. Ghose
After founding the Indian operations, he contacted his Pakistani classmate Sara Afridi and encouraged her to begin the RHA here. “Since both countries face similar problems of inequality and hunger, we chatted and she, along with her husband Sarfraz, founded the RHA Pakistan,” Mr. Ghose said. Ms. Afridi began the initiative on February 15, 2015, when Pakistan and India played against each other in the Cricket World Cup. She began with six of her relatives. Sameer Beg, the current team leader, was the ninth volunteer. The Pakistani authorities, for obvious reasons, do not discourage these kinds of initiatives. It obviously shows them in a "good light" and at the same time, it absolves them from their own responsibility towards their own citizens !
Both Mr. Ghose and Mr. Beg are less concerned about the government-to-government relationship between India and Pakistan

Yet Another Confirmed Case Of Sexual Abuse In The Islamic Schools Of Pakistan

Islamic schools in Pakistan plagued by sex abuse of children
By KATHY GANNON, AP
Nov. 22, 2017
KEHRORE PAKKA, Pakistan (AP) — Kausar Parveen struggles through tears as she remembers the blood-soaked pants of her 9-year-old son, raped by a religious cleric. Each time she begins to speak, she stops, swallows hard, wipes her tears and begins again. The boy had studied for a year at a nearby Islamic school in the town of Kehrore Pakka. In the blistering heat of late April, in the grimy two-room Islamic madrassa, he awoke one night to find his teacher lying beside him.“I didn’t move. I was afraid,” he says. The cleric lifted the boy’s long tunic-style shirt over his head, and then pulled down his baggy pants.
“I was crying. He was hurting me. He shoved my shirt in my mouth,” the boy says, using his scarf to show how the cleric tried to stifle his cries. He looks over at his mother. “Did he touch you?’” He nods. “Did he hurt you when he touched you?” ″Yes,” he whispers.“Did he rape you?” He buries his face in his scarf and nods yes.Parveen reaches over and grabs her son, pulling him toward her, cradling his head in her lap. This is one consequence when the govt outsources child education to madrassahs !
The AP found hundreds of cases of sexual abuse by clerics reported in the past decade, and officials suspect there are many more within a far-reaching system that teaches at least 2 million children in Pakistan. The investigation was based on police documents and dozens of interviews with victims, relatives, former and current ministers, aid groups and religious officials. The fear of clerics and the militant religious organizations that sometimes support them came through clearly. One senior official in a ministry tasked with registering these cases says many madrassas are “infested” with sexual abuse. The official asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution; he has been a target of suicide attacks because of his hard position against militant groups.
He compares the situation to the abuse of children by priests in the Catholic Church.“There are thousands of incidences of sexual abuse in the madrassas,” he says. “This thing is very common, that this is happening.”Pakistan’s clerics close ranks when the madrassa system is too closely scrutinized, he says. Among the weapons they use to frighten their critics is a controversial blasphemy law that carries a death penalty in the case of a conviction.“This is not a small thing here in Pakistan — I am scared of them and what they can do,” the official says. “I am not sure what it will take to expose the extent of it. It’s very dangerous to even try.” The Mullahs are well entrenched in all sectors of Paki society, well into the corridors of power . It is not easily to dislodge them now , as they can throw the blasphemy charges against their opponents !
In 2004, a Pakistani official disclosed more than 500 complaints of sexual assaults against young boys in madrassas. He has since refused to talk, and there have been no significant arrests or prosecutions.Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf dismisses the suggestion that sexual abuse is widespread, saying such talk is an attempt to malign the religion, seminaries and clerics. He says he was not aware of even the cases reported in the newspapers, but that it could occur occasionally ’because there are criminals everywhere.” Yousaf says the reform and control of madrassas is the job of the interior ministry. The Interior Ministry, which oversees madrassas, refused repeated written and telephone requests for an interview.
The case of Parveen’s son was one of at least three within a month in the towns of Kehrore Pakka and Rajanpur in Punjab province’s deep south, according to police reports. Another incident involved the drugging and gang rape of a 12-year-old boy asleep on his madrassa rooftop by former students. And the third was of a 10-year-old boy sodomized by the madrassa principal when he brought him his meal. The cleric threatened to kill the boy if he told. The AP is not naming the children because they are victims of sexual abuse.
The fear of clerics was evident at the courthouse in Kehrore Pakka, where the former teacher of Parveen’s son waited his turn to go before a judge. A half dozen members of the radical Sunni militant organization Sipah-e-Sahabah were there to support the teacher.
The teacher had already confessed, according to police, and the police report said he was found with the boy. Yet he swore his innocence in court.“I am married,” he said. “My wife is pretty, why would I do this to a kid?” Taqqiya
There are more than 22,000 registered madrassas or Islamic schools in Pakistan. The students they teach are often among the country’s poorest, who receive food and an education for free.
Madrassas are funded by wealthy business people, religious political parties and even donors from other countries, such as Saudi Arabia. The teachings of the madrassas are guided by schools of Islamic thought, such as Shiite and Sunni. However, unlike the Catholic Church, which has a clear hierarchy topped by the Vatican, there is no central religious authority that governs madrassas. There is also no central body that investigates or responds to allegations in religious schools.
In south Punjab, a cleric was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2016 and sentenced to 12 years in prison and the equivalent of a $1,500 fine. The same cleric had in the past managed to get several families to settle over sexual abuse cases because of his close links to religious extremist groups, said local officials. This time, a local activist group known as Roshan Pakistan, or Bright Pakistan, persuaded the family of the young girl to resist.Far more often, the family gives in, as in the case of a 9-year-old girl who was raped by the maulvi of the unregistered madrassa she attended, according to a police report. Her uncle, Mohammed Azam, points across a field to the madrassa, surrounded by a high wall. The girl started working two years ago, at 7, and her only schooling was in the Quran. She spent the rest of the day sitting cross-legged on a mud floor inside a swelteringly hot room sewing the traditional shalwar kameez.Last July, a cleric “forcibly took her shalwar off and started molesting her,” according to the police report obtained by the AP. She screamed. Two men heard her screams and stormed into the room, and found the cleric attacking her. Seeing them, the cleric fled, and the men took the bleeding girl home, the report said.
“We would hear that these kinds of things happen, children raped in the madrassas, but you never know until it happens to your family,” says Azam, her uncle.
Yet the family settled the case out of court. He refused to say how much money they got, but neighbors say it was around $800.
“The family took money to not speak about it,” says Rana Mohammed Jamal, an elderly neighbor. He says he believes abuses occurred predominantly in the small madrassas that spring up in poor neighborhoods, “where it is just the mullah and no one can say who he is, and he can do anything.”
Parveen, the mother of the 9-year-old boy who says he was raped by his teacher in Kehrore Pakka, vowed that she would never give in to intimidation. But relatives and neighbors say the family was hounded by religious militants to drop the charges and take money. In the end, the mother “forgave” the cleric and accepted $300, according to police. The cleric was set free. To jail a cleric in Islamic Pakistan, and for this kind of a crime, is too too dangerous for the "system"

This was a targeted attack, pure and simple. The book on the surgical strikes ops mentions how Pak deployed every asset they had to attack indian border outposts when the attacks occurred including snipers. We should pay these fellows back in the right language, with no qualms whatsoever.
I hope more than a few Paki heads roll on the birthday of the Qaid, on the border and elsewhere. We can do another test of the ATGM and release the video.

The ‘dysfunctional’ nation of 2017: Pakistan

NEW DELHI: In a year when the world attention focused largely on North Korea and the crisis in West Asia and Europe, developments in Pakistan where fundamentalists made concrete moves to mainstream their discourse missed global headlines.

Backed by the army, terror masterminds led by Hafiz Saeed — Pakistan's most powerful institution — are making plans to enter Parliament, undermining global efforts to legally punish the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jama'at-ud-Da'wah leader. Simultaneously, Islamabad's grand dream over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is facing hurdles from within and even Beijing appears upset over implementation of the mega project.

The situation is gloomy as Pakistan may plunge into further crisis in 2018, constraining India's already limited engagement with Islamabad. India, as a strategy, is maintaining minimum contact with Pakistan and has been successful since the attack on the Pathankot airbase to prevent Islamabad from dominating headlines here, expect towards the last phase of electioneering in Gujarat. While Pakistan's decision to allow Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother and wife to meet him on Monday could be seen as a desperate attempt by Islamabad to reach out to Delhi, the Modi government is likely to be less inclined to restart any dialogue at this stage.

Image

Critics say Pakistan as a nation in 2017 was unstuck and dysfunctional. There is merit to this argument considering the fact that the extremist groups had held the country hostage through demonstrations at the heart of the capital. The crisis could be resolved only after the government caved in to their demands.

"Pakistan today projects a picture of a dysfunctional nation steeped (in) and slipping into an abyss of medieval Islamic obscurantism — sadly into the very opposite conception of Pakistan which its founder Jinnah had visualised," former Indian diplomat Subhash Kapila wrote in a recent article in the South Asia Analysis Group. "Pakistan's liberalist sections and the educated middle class stand drowned by the Pakistan army-mullah nexus... The Pakistan army could have achieved the same end as many other armies of the world in similar situations have done without resorting to enlisting the support of Islamic mullahs (clerics), Islamic jihadi terrorist outfits and Islamic fundamentalists of the most medieval type as its mainstays to rule and stay in power in Pakistan."

In a rather defiant move in the backdrop of the Trump administration's opposition, the Pak army not only ensured the release of Hafiz Saeed from detention, but also encouraged him to legitimise his politics.

Fundamentalism is not only alive in Pakistan but is growing — a fact that the international community cannot ignore. Pak-based extremist groups are as dangerous or lethal as the Islamic State whose members are now returning to their countries of origin.

Terroristan - 29 September 2017

Terroristan's Steady March towards becoming an Islamic Theocracy! All Hail Jinnah :rotfl:

Either Rana Sanaullah goes by Dec 31 or you do, Sialvi warns Punjab CM

Pir Hameeduddin Sialvi of Astana-e-Aalia Sial Sharif has given until December 31 to Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to make provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah quit or resign himself.

“How will Shehbaz Sharif run the government when he can’t even make his servant [Rana Sanaullah] resign,” the spiritual leader said at a Khatme Nabuwwat conference in Gujranwala on Sunday.

“Let’s all promise that we won’t vote for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). If anything goes wrong, I’ll be the first one to take the bullet,” he added.

“Don’t provoke us. Otherwise, we will reach the assemblies.

Sialvi warned that the Punjab government would be forced out of power if the provincial law minister was not ousted from his post.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashraf Jalali of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik said PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari were all working for the West.

“The masses of Pakistan can put up with electricity and gas shortages but won’t compromise over the issue of Khatme Nabuwwat,” he added.

Jalali announced that the Tehreek-e-Labbaik would continue its protest campaign until the government succumbed to its demands. The religious group will stage a rally from Data Darbar to the Punjab Assembly in Lahore on January 4, he added.

Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza told the participants of the conference that he would not accept a parliament which had “conspired” against the ideology of Khatme Nabuwwat.

He demanded that the rulers should resign by December 31. “Why are Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif silent over Rana Sanaullah’s statement,” he asked.

Earlier this month, after three successive deadlines to the Punjab government to clarify its stance over Sanaullah’s comments about Ahmadis, the Astana-e-Aalia announced that it would not support the PML-N in the elections due next year and its followers would resign from the government.

Pir Hameeduddin Sialvi claims to have written resignations of over a dozen members of the provincial and national assemblies for submission to the speakers of the houses on his orders.

The first deadline given by Sialvi for Sanaullah’s resignation, of December 1, was delayed on the request of provincial Minister Zaeem Qadri. The next deadline was December 3 with a slightly moderate demand for the law minister to visit Sial Sharif to offer a clarification along with his resignation.

Sanaullah suggested that anyone who wanted his resignation should approach PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. After this statement, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured Sialvi by phone of addressing his complaint and the deadline was again extended for two days.

However, according to MPA Sahibzada Ghulam Nizamuddin Sialvi, the government did not pay heed to the demand.

He said he was called by Hameeduddin Sialvi and informed about the decision. He said he tried his best to ease the situation by conveying the message to the CM and his son Hamza Shehbaz. When no interest was shown in addressing the concerns, he finally backed down from trying to defuse the situation, the MPA added.

He said the primary demand of his group now was Sanaullah’s resignation and the doors for clarifying his stance would only open after this.

The Track-II Chaophrya meeting has its echo.

Ms. Suhasini Haidar writes an op-ed in The Hindu equating India & Pakistan and suggesting that the 'peace talks' must resume.

Time for an icebreaker

Obviously, my following comment is too much for The Hindu to publish:
This is yet another demonstration of our analysts wanting to be seen 'neutral' in this conflict even at the cost of truth. Implicating India as an equal partner in crime is not 'analysis'. Comparisons are odious when action and reaction are placed at the same pedestal. For example, the author bemoans the severing of cultural ties. From Pakistan's side, it has been trying (since the All India Muslim League days) to forge a new identity for itself, totally bereft of any trace of its much reviled Indian influence, while, from the Indian side, our visa restrictions are more a punishment for Pakistan's non-stop terrorism and economic & political destabilization of our country. Pakistan’s identity crisis is so well known that I am surprised that the author insinuates India in that. One can easily see the incongruity in every 'equality' that the author draws. Our innate desire to be seen ‘unbiased’ & ‘moralistic’ seems such that we want to cut off our face even as we spare the Pakistani nose.

Bacha Khan University bars male and female students from 'sitting idle' together
...or roaming with female students
...also imposed a ban on smoking, the use of chaadar, using the rooftops of campus buildings and ragging new students (or "fooling", as the notification clarifies).
...the decision had been taken in the larger interest of the students "as they waste a lot of their time roaming around the campus"
He strongly denied the notion that the university was being turned into a madrassah.
However, keeping up to the name of "bacha" khan university and time-honored pakhtoon traditions, there is no ban on same-sex students roaming or "sitting idle" together. By the way, I did not get the "chadar" ban thingy?

That farticle was published on Dec 23rd, it took 2 days apparently for Pakistan to go from 'rising' to 'risen' as per another farticle by the same guy on Dec 25th:

Despite growth, economy still under risk, says IPR

LAHORE: Despite a revival of growth, Pakistan’s economy is still facing some serious risks and vulnerabilities.

Economic growth has improved with the revival in manufacturing and agriculture, rapid increase in tax revenue has strengthened public finance, however, major foreign financing challenges remain, stated the Institute for Policy Reforms (IPR) in the review of the economy for the first quarter of 2017-18 on Friday.

At 4.4% of GDP, the current account deficit grew by 120% over the same quarter of last fiscal year and far exceeds the target set by the government. Foreign reserves have fallen despite hefty external borrowing. So far, the government has attributed the runaway current account deficit to growth-inducing machinery imports. Machinery imports, however, did not grow during the quarter. Import of power generation equipment fell by 17%.

The report asserts that Pakistan is dependent on external savings and the economy is exposed to continuous loan rollover and re-pricing risks. Recent correction in rupee value may reduce imports and the deficit. The central bank estimates foreign exchange financing gap of $12 billion in FY18 (later retracted). IPR says that the gap will be higher. Next year’s foreign financing gap is a major economic risk.

Fiscal deficit also is higher than target. This has increased government’s indebtedness, both domestic and external. These macroeconomic factors prevent sustained and long-term growth of the economy. They are the result of years of economic decision making that prioritises firefighting to solve immediate problems, but does not show resolve to deal with structural issues.

The problems point to an economic structure that does not allow the economy to substantially increase investment. It is the result of a political economy that favors the privileged at the expense of everyone else.

The report cautions against despondency though because that is the last thing the market needs today. It affirms that Pakistan has the potential to turn the economy around if all institutions show firm intent.

LSM grew by a healthy 8.4% during the first quarter primarily due to improved power supply, better security, low interest rates, low inflation, and past years’ investments. Agriculture has recovered from higher fertiliser off-take, higher credit and mechanisation, and support price for wheat.

GDP growth will be higher than last year’s 5.28%. An expansionary monetary policy coupled with largely steady exchange rate (despite 5% correction in December) and some agriculture and industrial revival have stimulated growth. Continuous growth in public sector investment and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) development projects also have given impetus.

Indian Army crosses LOC to retaliate, kills three Pak soldiers.

Indian Army troops crossed over the Line of Control killing three Pakistani army soldiers and leaving one injured in a cross border raid on Monday retaliating to the death of four India army personnel including a major on Saturday. Based on ground intelligence and surveillance intelligence, agencies have identified the Pakistani soldiers killed as sepoy Sajjad, sepoy Abdul Rehman and Sepoy M Usman. The injured soldier on the Pakistani side has been identified as sepoy Athzaz Hussain.

"We got a go ahead to cross over and carry out an operation to avenge the killings of four soldiers including a major rank officer," said government sources confirming the army strike in PoK. According to a statement by Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations, Indian forces opened fire along the Line of Control killing three of their soldiers. The raid happened in 12 Division of the 59 Balooch Unit in PoK, sources said.

This comes a day after Indian Army said one Pakistani soldier was killed in retaliation to the Pakistani Army firing killing four Indian Army personnel. ISPR said one other than the casualties one Pakistani soldier was injured. There have been frequent skirmishes on the line of Control with Pakistan Army indulging in repeated ceasefire violations. There has also been an increase in infiltration attempts from Pakistan trying to send terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.

^^^^ Pakjabi officer scum have pushed low ranking Baluch to be halaled while they themselves are enjoying fine scotch back in the barracks. This is not effective retaliation till some officers are likewise blown up at a time and place of our choosing although it is a step in the right direction.

The present level of punitive action while welcome has on this count some way to go to address the loss of Indian lives:

Army major among four soldiers killed in Pak firing on LoC : Three of the dead have been identified as Major Prafulla Ambadas Moharkar, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh, Udhampur-based Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel N N Joshi said.

If the "border" was crossed, it means that it was a retaliation for a BAT team attack. This is not going to end here and the concerned Indian unit will definitely be doing this many times over.

the barbarians carry out the mutilations because they believe it "strikes terror" in the hearts of their enemies.
At least three Pakistani soldiers were killed as forces crossed the Line of Control (LoC) to retaliate against an attack in which three Indian soldiers were killed and their bodies mutilated by Pakistan's Border Action Team in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday, ANI has reported.

This does not look as innocent as it sounds. It looks like a specifically targeted attack.

Diplomat's mobile phone snatched in New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 26 2017,

Eenam Gambhir, first secretary in India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was robbed off her mobile phone by two bike-borne miscreants in Delhi recently.

Eenam, a 2005-batch IFS officer, was on a vacation.

She was out for a walk with her mother on Saturday when miscreants snatched her mobile phone, sources in the police said.

Eenam hogged the limelight on September 22 when she stated that Pakistan was hosting an "Ivy League of Terrorism".

Exercising India's right to reply after Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi raked up the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly, Eenam had made a strong rebuttal by calling Pakistan "terroristan".

Eenam told the police that her iPhone had a US-registered SIM card and some important files related to her work.

Most corporations have MDM (mobile device management) solutions deployed where phones with official access have a restricted set of security settings (including encryption typically) and the ability to remote wipe or automatically wipe the contents after a set number of failed unlock attempts.

Given the general incompetence of the politicians and bureaucracy though, I am not sure if even these simple measures have been adopted for GOI staff.

Of course, given that many of our officials would be using Chinese made phones (again due to incompetence and lethargy from the GOI in general) there are probably hardware or firmware level loopholes built in that bypass those. :(

+1 Given that this news has been 'leaked' it is clearly an attempt to position it as a retaliation from our side. If that is true, it is far from adequate and one can only hope it is just the start. Would be happier if they just made the Pakis hurt, without bothering to publicize limited actions taken in a 1:1 (or actually worse) ratio.

there are reports that the pakis are not disclosing the true causality figures they suffered in the attack.

Timed carefully after kulbushan's family exited pakiland??

Anyway, the promptly mounted retaliation speaks volumes for the abilities and the determination of the IA to strike, even in the face of an enemy who is vigilant, expecting retaliation and is prepared for it.

quite a change from the mickey mouse regime which always went in for full appeasement, be it with the hans or with the pakis. Now that the IA has been unshackled and most determinedly in the hunting mode, the pakis are squealing like stuck pigs because the image of the PA is taking a hit and they cannot rely anymore on Indian quislings to control the wrath of the IA.
