For the first time since #Turkey started its "Olive Branch", Turkish Air Force bombed the city of #Afrin #Syria, causing 3 dead and several wounded. There are a bit less than one million inhabitants in the city (including IDP).

The city is not surrounded: the south of #Afrin is open to the area under the Syrian government control. The Syrian Army is allowing the flow of people weapons, munitions, food and medicine in and out of the city.

the turkiye convoy of 100 vehicles that tried to occupy El Eis above was trying to block a potential syrian prong from that direction toward Saraqib and safeguard the eastern flanks of Idlib on behalf of the Nusra their buddies.

a couple of trucks were burned by the warning mode shelling by syrians near the convoy which retreated to some areas in the north.

A common question is how do opposition groups get weapons and supplies to the East Ghouta,, despite being besieged......opposition groups have a sophisticated network of tunnels that are used to evade the Syrian military. Often times, rebels travel through rural Damascus 1/2

from Dara'a. They reach southern Damascus and begin smuggling the weapons and supplies. Sometimes they are caught before reaching their destinations, but they are relatively successful.

turks are steadily clawing their way into northern afrin . YPG unable to turn the tide and attack their rear at other points.
they were only effective vs ISIS due to US air support and lack the organic tanks, howitzers, mine layers, meteorit UR77, TOS1 flamethrowers and even the crude elephant rockets the syrians/IRGC bring to any serious fight. all they have are some Milan ATGMs.

they seem to lack the workshops and weapons making cottage industry that all the other players SAA, Nusra, ISIS bring to table. points to a lack of education and engineering expertise and civilian industry in the rojava belt . the PKK is probably even more rustic.

here is a year old but superb report on how ISIS armour workshops worked even under russian air power. they were able to manufacture spares and upkeep all varieties of tanks, IFVs and even build VBIEDs and technicals calmly using agile and concealment tactics. they surely had ex iraqi and syrian army technical people in the ranks , apart from civilian people from automobile workshops

YPG gets these readymade imports of vehicles delivered by the US and seems to lack much of this expertise to keep adapting and repairing things. all they have are pickup trucks. they lack even basic 105mm cannons. completely at mercy of their US overlords who turn the tap on and off and do not share the technology and maintainence workshops.

seems even before Oct 2014, a year before russians made a armed intervention in syria, the shadowy GRU ELINT units were onsite in Syria to provide intel to the Shia Crescent alliance . details were found in a captured base that was vacated. they have really honed their skills in eastern ukraine as well.

Idlib op is now postponed. tiger forces are moving SE to help end the large ISIS pocket that is in north hama est 1000 fighters inside.

just shows the sheer paucity of effective offensive formations in the SAA. I have lost count of the battles and messes the tigers had to fix, everywhere from aleppo to al bukamal.

If Putin is a great chess player for trying to wean Turkey away from Nato, then so is Biden for supporting neo fascists in Ukraine.
If Kurds are collateral damage in the big strategic game, then so were the 40 ethnic Russians burnt in Odessa trade building too.
What were we outraging for then?!
And if Russia is right in supporting jihadis now, then so was US earlier. All moral high ground is gone. Russia is just another terrorist supporting entity.
Cheers

Update:
Earlier today #Turkey issued to all the militias from Al Eis all the day way to Kafrya /Al Fowaa an order to retreat from their positions, or they will be bombed by #RuAF with no backup.
But until now the planes are still dropping ammo+aids to the two besieged towns.

The order was broadcasted through the militias communication devices, due to the continuous drops on the two towns, the militias are suspecting a large battle to occur after the arrival of the troops.

Why don't you expect the front (towards Al Eis) to be a success?

@voglia_tanta

Heavily it's heavily fortified by HTS the front between Khan Touman and Al Eis. On the same time SAA units there are not so good

@dutchresearcher

If there's any soldier thinks this way and expect nothing (good) from an attempt to storm Al Eis, it's better not to begin at all, to my opinion, and wait for better troops to do the job. So, I don't think there will be an offensive towards Al Eis with mediocre troops.

SAA 4th Division and Hezbollah and others were very successful in south Aleppo during late 2015. With sufficient RuaF support they took Hadher, Al Eis, Khan Touman and loads of other areas in like 2 months

Exactly, the Tigers werent there at the time(IIRC they were busy with breaking the siege on Kuweires). And the 4th division and Hezb/IRGC/Nujaba did just fine, as long as they have access to direct RUAF air support everything should be good. That being said i expect heavy combat.

The aleppo to saraqib to hama main highway is the obvious next goal of saa as abu duhur is now wrapped up

But might start after a few weeks only as tigers moved south to clear the north hama isis pocket. Could be maskirovka to setup a strike from aleppo axis too

BEIRUT, LEBANON: Rebel fighters shot down a Russian plane over Syria's northwest Idlib province on Saturday and captured its pilot, a monitor said.

"Rebel factions shot down a Sukhoi 25. The Russian pilot came down in a parachute, before being captured," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

^^ it was bound to happen, with Su25 flying quite low in broad daylight in range of ZSU23-2 and HMGs even mounted on technicals.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:05 P.M.) – The Russian Navy has just fired several cruise missiles over the Idlib countryside, pro-government activists in Latakia reported this afternoon.

The cruise missiles reportedly targeted the eastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate, where the downed Russian pilot was killed today

^^^ I would imagine they will send in more manned a/c incl heavies to ravage the Saraqib area now.

So Jaish Al Nasr shot down a Russian plane and killed the pilot.
Jaish al Nasr is a constituent of Free Syrian Army armed by USA and Turkey, previously. The one, Putin is helping in smashing the evil kurds now.

The life of this Russian pilot, as the earlier one in 2015, is a small price to pay for the great strategic victory Putin will achieve when he rips Turkey away from USA.
