Admin Note: Please post something more than a URL in this forum! It would be nice gesture towards rest of us, if you can summarize any interesting things in this URL
Singhaji,
Let me tell you a story that my friend told me a few years back. My friend was a parole agent in the Department of Corrections. It seems his boss, a Parole Agent III (and a black), was working in his garden on a Sunday. At the end of his chores he walked to a Starbucks in the neighborhood and ordered an iced coffee drink to cool off. He was wearing a pair of cutoff jeans and a tee shirt and his hands were soiled from the garden work. As he was drinking his beverage, suddenly two police officers appeared and asked him to step outside the Starbucks. He did so and they started to question him. One officer then recognized him as a comparatively high ranking official in the parole office and he remembered him from a past operation. The police officer told him that Starbucks rang the police saying that a suspicious black man was “casing” the Starbucks for a future robbery. They were there to investigate this complain. The fact that he was black, wore soiled clothing, did not have a car and walked to the shop caused this suspicion. The Police did not detain him as he was a known Peace Officer and asked him if he was willing to press charges against Starbucks for falsely accusing him. The PAIII declined, as peace officers do not have time for this and no desire to make a sister organization look bad, and the matter ended there.
For one such public case there may be hundred similar cases of discrimination that go unreported.

A senior US diplomat has threatened to use the Lockheed Martin F-35 programme as a retaliatory tool against Turkey for acquiring a sophisticated air defence system from Russia.
And folks want India to join US bandwagon for these expensive turkeys.

Turkey is a NATO ally with largest military in that alliance.
They invested early on in F35.
They make parts for the plane.
They are second source for center fuselage.
They already paid for first 10 planes.
And they get threatened by 2 bit govt official!!!

India is none of this. What chance they won't get cutoff if even a retired officer writes an op ed to take back PoK.
100 percent cutoff.
the US needs India more than the other way around .. the degree of importance growing exponentially over next decade. they will bend over to do all sorts of waivers period.

shri conrad black’s take:

America is being mocked by the shallow bias of its free press

“We are living through an era when the Western democracies are generally reassessing a great deal of assumed conventional liberal wisdom...The larger issue in the United States and the leading western European countries is that the media are at war with the governments, and as all the governments involved have been freely elected, with the people.“

^ We have ranted for many years about the "Desi Dork Media", the garbage peddled by Dar ka Butt and Josie Joseph and Shekhar Gupta and Naxal Ram and the Chindoo. But the quality of journalism (all sides of the spectrum) in the USA has been so bloody dismal over the past few years that the DDM look Pulitzer/Nobel quality in comparison. Then again, they are doing what they do best: they parrot the US/Western reports, in a race to the bottom.
It is a strange time, when one finds that RT.com and New China News Agency and Al Jazeera are far more credible than the "Western Mainstream Media". At least they are not as pompous as they lie, and their "in-depth reporting" is pretty factual.
Also, there is severe censorship at dumps such as ABCNEWS and CNN. There is a reason why their "comments" threads look so zero-watt: all other comments are deleted without explanation. How do I know? Well.. UBCN knows these things.

The US media in particular, and the Western media in general, have been catastrophic over the last 3 years or so. Loss of integrity, professionalism and naturally, therefore, relevance. One begins to wonder whether the transition from fourth estate to fifth column is irreversible.

If you claim to understand this, you can understand the US. Or Pakistan for that matter.
“I was just shoved and screamed at by a big group in a pub in Manhattan and forced out of the place. One of them was a reporter for Gizmodo. They were screaming at the top of their lungs about ‘Nazis’ and ‘KKK,’” Yiannopoulos wrote on Facebook. He then explained that he decided to leave the venue because he didn’t want to have to explain to his black husband that he was injured after being called a “white supremacist.”
Yiannopoulos married his long-time African-American boyfriend last year in Hawaii.
"It’s now impossible for me to safely go out for lunch in most major cities in America because I supported Trump at the last election and don’t like feminism," he wrote.
So this is a Greek-American right-wing KKK-Nazi homosexual married to an African-American "husband" and supporter of Donald Trump, attacked and chased out of a bar in New York by "liberal" tolerant, inclusive civilized rabid American communists who support the Democratic Party.

I need to take a break to shake my head clear on that one.

I don't know if you know who Yiannopoulos is but I find it funny that he's playing the victim here. This is the guy who once blamed a black actress for playing victim on twitter when the usual mob was railing against her.

Also the guy who was kicked out of Breitbart for his comments excusing child sexual abuse. I'm sure you will not call Breitbart part of the liberal media.

See this: https://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwi ... .bhLWO2x87
Following the scandal last month that engulfed Milo Yiannopolous over his remarks about sexual abuse, another video has resurfaced showing the former senior editor at Breitbart News attacking survivors of clerical abuse as "whinging, selfish brats", and erroneously claiming that a disproportionate number of gay men are paedophiles.

In an interview with Gavin McInnes on his eponymous US internet chat show – originally aired in 2015 on Compound Media – Yiannopoulos, responding to a remark by the host regarding priests who abuse children, said: "The real problem I have is all these people who suddenly remember they were abused 20 years later and suddenly decide that it was a problem – whinging, selfish brats."

As for the white supremacist stuff, plz to read this: http://www.dallasobserver.com/news/inte ... ke-9948271
One night in 2016, infamous right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos and homegrown Dallas white nationalist Richard Spencer walked into a karaoke bar on Abrams Road in Lake Highlands. They left less than a half-hour later after being kicked out by One Nostalgia Tavern's bartenders. Before they did, someone filmed a video of Yiannopoulos singing "America the Beautiful" as Spencer and his fellow travelers gave Nazi salutes from the crowd.

and yes there really is a Mongolian Nazi movement - called the blue mongols, dedicated to purifying the homeland of han infiltrators

White police brutalize and partially disrobe a black woman at a waffle house restaurant. They throw her to the ground, threaten to break her arm, tear her clothes to reveal her top.

This despite the fact that she was clearly non-violent and offering no physical resistance.

https://www.vox.com/identities/2018/4/2 ... ice-racism

This is unprovoked, aggravated sexual assault by uniformed white police officers on a non-white woman.

Imagine what Devyani Khobragade went through at the hands of these pigs, especially with no camera around to video it.

It's also reminiscent of the unprovoked assault by a white policeman that partially paralyzed 58-year-old grandfather Sureshbhai Patel.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-amer ... er-n573806

In that incident, which also occurred in Alabama, ALL charges against the police officer were dropped.

let us turn the question around ... has any police officer in the last 10 years been convicted and sentenced to prison time for wrongful assault/detention/death of innocent victims?

things have to reach an extreme level for any form of punishment to even be tabled ...and this was because of a good nurse who ratted on the officers at risk of being threatened

Listening to the Trump-Macron speeches looks like France is being restored to first and oldest ally as it was at the founding of the Republic.
macron referred tot eh British burning the White House in 1812 and James Monroe choosing French furniture....

After #Brexit and Trump election, UK is losing its special relationship as it won't have much clout in Europe.
If anyone recalls this special relationship was about a hundred years old during George V reign.

I expect the UK will now push Commonwealth and flatter Indian gungadins.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... havens-two

The offshore world is all around us. More than half of world trade passes, at least on paper, through tax havens. More than half of all banking assets and a third of foreign direct investment by multinational corporations are routed offshore. An impression has been created in sections of the world's media, since a series of stirring denunciations of tax havens by world leaders in 2008 and 2009, that the offshore system has been dismantled, or at least tamed. In fact quite the opposite has happened. The offshore system is in very rude health — and growing fast.

It is no coincidence that London, once the capital of the greatest empire the world has known, is the centre of the most important part of the global offshore system. The City's offshore network has three main parts. Two inner rings – Britain's crown dependencies of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man; and its overseas territories, such as the Cayman Islands – are substantially controlled by Britain, and combine futuristic offshore finance with medieval politics. The outer ring comprises a more diverse array of havens, such as Hong Kong, which are outside Britain's direct control but have strong links.

This network of offshore satellites does several things. First, it gives the City a truly global reach. The British havens scattered all around the world's time zones attract and catch mobile international capital flowing to and from nearby jurisdictions, just as a spider's web catches passing insects. Much of the money attracted to these places, and the business of handling that money, is then funnelled through to London.

Second, this British spider's web lets the City get involved in business that might be forbidden in Britain, providing sufficient distance to allow financiers in London plausible deniability of wrongdoing. Much (but not all) of the financial activity hosted in these places breaks laws and avoids regulation elsewhere.

The three crown dependencies in the inner ring are substantially controlled and supported by Britain but have enough independence to allow Britain to say "there is nothing we can do" when other countries complain of abuses run out of these havens. They channel very large amounts of finance up to the City of London: in the second quarter of 2009 the UK received net financing of $332.5bn (£215bn) just from its three crown dependencies. Jersey Finance promotional literature makes the point plainly. "Jersey," it says, "represents an extension of the City of London."

The 14 overseas territories, the next ring in the spider's web, are the last surviving outposts of Britain's formal empire. With just a quarter of a million inhabitants between them they include some of the world's top secrecy jurisdictions: the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Turks and Caicos islands and Gibraltar.

Just like the crown dependencies, the overseas territories have close but ambiguous political relationships with Britain. In the Caymans the most powerful person is the governor, appointed by the Queen. The governor handles defence, internal security and foreign relations; he appoints the police commissioner, the complaints commissioner, the auditor general, the attorney general, the judiciary and other top officials. The final appeal court is the privy council in London.

It is the world's fifth largest financial centre, hosting 80,000 registered companies, more than three-quarters of the world's hedge funds, and $1.9tn (£1.2tn) on deposit – four times as much as in New York City banks.

The third, outer ring of the British spider's web includes Hong Kong, Singapore, the Bahamas, Dubai and Ireland, which are fully independent though deeply connected to the City of London

sorry, deleted my post by mistake, lets try again...

no macron doesn't get on with putin, he publicly told him to BTFU after the french election interference and blatant promotion of marine le pen, french intel were told to retaliate where required against FSB/GRU by whatever means possible
macron believes it is his destiny to assume the leadership slot that obama has vacated given that the other contenders are unfit or unwilling
and much has been written about his belief of #FFGE (faire france grande encore) - which is just like #MAGA but completely different

I find it curious that people are so enthused about a small-time politician pr1ck like Macron puffing up, while discounting the US.

What exactly does Europe see as Future? Or, more to the point, what should others see as Europe's Future? Energy shortage, skills shortage, aging nostalgic (or hostile young Islamic) population, democracy sliding under the tectonic plate of Islam, practically NO competitive product line except weapons and sex to offer.

Banking capital? I have to laugh. To trade what except illegal weapons and terrorism?

The US has all those problems, but has finally woken up and kicked out the Islam wave (see the sheer viciousness of its clawed grip as it is pried loose!), has started to shake the China grip, and, at the end of the day, the US has practically endles natural resources, more than enough to be able to shut down all borders and still thrive.

France IMO is on the way to becoming New Algeria. Deservingly so. As for that great Terrorism Capital UK aka Pakistan West, I think that is far worse in future. Yeah, Dubai West, but for how long? I think Dublin aka Hong Lin has much better prospects if its Chinese mega-lords want to be in a cold wet place. Short hop across the Atlantic, longer hop over the poles to Shanghai.

French prospects for leading Oirope are equally grim. Germany has the depth to replace its leader, they still have some skilled labor and industry to offer, plus a killer soccer team. WTFrance does France offer?

IMO Russia is the sleeper here.

Ramana Garu, look at this map:

Image

It's Europe (dominated by the French Empire) in 1812.

Only Russia and Britain are outside the French Empire's influence. The Ottoman Empire is the other power extending into Europe.

Do we see similarities with today?

Declining political unity in Germany has left France with an opening to claim the EU leadership.

Britain has Brexited, so it's outside.

Russia is of course outside. Its contested zones of influence with the EU (Ukraine, Poland, Livonia/Baltic states) are nearly identical to what we see in the 1812 map.

And in Turkey we have the new Sultan with a neo-Ottomanesque vision.

Relevance to the USA? Well, what does a marginalized Britain try to do when it has lost its purchase on events on the European continent? Where does it seek to project its influence instead?

Remember the War of 1812.

dear herdsman
the US has not been discounted, rather there is a sense globally that we have seen 'peak US' and now we need to understand what emperor Xi has in mind for the world. the orangeone is rapidly taking the image of the US downwards (in the eyes of all but 'the base' and a curious segment of American desis - who have an interesting set of motivations for believing in the cause)
otherwise Rudradev's map is very insightful. read a very good book recently about geography and power... it seems that for millennia the same patterns repeat themselves

Dear Lal Mullah ji, was the book by any chance written by a Englader, Frogistani or Deutschlander? The other day I was browsing "CricInfo" where there was this great Cricket History Quiz. If you saw that you would not know that India has ever won any matches, or Indians done anything of note in cricket.
Who was the first woman to have scored more than 37 but less than 43 runs in an international match that was not conducted in India and was played in July?
(paraphrasing..)
Yesterday M.S. Dhoni won yet another match, coolly hammering in 70 to make 99 off the last 7 overs, concluding with a 6 with 2 balls to go. Yet nowhere do I see a ranking that recognizing the glaring reality that his record is now practically superhuman.
I am tired of smelling these sh1ts every day: watching their Iraq/Libya/Syria cruelty removed any blinders that I had on. 1000 years ago IIRC, Germans were swinging by their tails in the Black Forest, while Frogistanis were crucifying each other in Crusades or whatever, and wishing someone would invent La Parfum because they had not discovered the idea of taking baths. The British certainly had not invented said Perfumes either but knew that over in "Inja" they had this thing called Sandalwood.

As for the USA, I would say that "the peak" may or may not have been reached, but that is like arguing for Mt. Kahuta as being the world's highest because Gauri-Shankar has lost 2 feet of snow off the top.
Take away their American-enforced but otherwise completely undeserved UNSC Permanent Membership that demands their participation in US-led gang looting operations, and what do Britain or France have left? Britain OK at least fought using Indian and Canadian and Australian and American lives against Germany in a war that was primarly if British making, but France? :rotfl: The same France that raced faster than Rommel to surrender to him?

As for the hangup about Trump, the fellow stood for election, beat the knickers off his opponents (crooks, racists, looters all) in their own game, and won the election on the same system set up by the crooks. He came in with NO party support. Inside 1.5 years he has given The People a tax code that means a 25%to 30% net reduction of taxes for middle class people, increased interest rates so that retired people can see some slight hope of not starving on 0.02% interest, given some hope of controlling the borders, caused the Korean War to end, taken Xi's arrogance down a bit, and at least for a year, sent the markets zooming so that one could take a bit of short-term profit. And he is the **ONLY** leader who has used the word "Deep State" and not (yet) knuckled under their paid-media onslaught. I doubt that any of this is visible to people who are expert on American internal realities sitting across the oceans, but that is what people even in Ulan Bator can see on a clear day looking from the high plateau as the yaks go Baa Baa.

By real "western historical metrics", Greece and Italy should be the only superpowers. Italy conquered both Britain and France and taught them to crucify each other, remember? :rotfl:
