"Also, it is possible that the Chinese are flying the J-20 with radar reflectors attached to enlarge and conceal its true radar cross section during peacetime operations - just as the USAF routinely does with the F-22 and F-35," said Bronk.

For safety and training purposes, stealth aircraft often fly with markers that destroy their stealth during peacetime maneuvers.

If this is the case with the J-20s, then India may be in for an unpleasant surprise next time it tries to track the supposedly stealth jets.
The irony is if the Chinese jets are stealthy as they claim, they could have just carried out their testing without the reflectors and India would have been none the wiser!

There was no need to tell the world J20 is been tested in Tibet, is it?

The report thinks India wouldn't know to differentiate if a jet is carrying reflectors on it.

How difficult is it to fit Luneburg reflective lenses on non Stealth aircraft and Su-57 to see the impact they have, given their size cant be adding more than .1sq mtr to .3 sq mtr to the aircraft radar size. Based on that calculations can be done to see what is the radar return without it?

They could have done both with and without the reflectors.

Who knows. All this is just assumption.

In fact, who knows if the ungainly underpowered thing could even take off from Tibet because according to the chini threads on PDF, the nearest the J-20 got to Tibet is Szechuan. lol

Yes. Kinetic warfare happens very rarely. The rest of the time it is establishment of jurisdiction with your forces versus theirs. In the oceans, it is basically a race between the MICs because you can only establish a persistent presence at sea with ships and numbers do count.

If all you do is plan for war with all those best on market firangi systems and subsystems then you will lose the peace. We need a MIC. A corvette that we can mass-produce is critical to the MIC.

In case you did not expect this and are not shivering already, "gobar swines" reports this:

China’s fighter jets perform ‘perfect combination’ training
China's three most advanced missile-carrying fighter jets have conducted combined combat training that a Chinese expert on Sunday called "perfect combinations."
Taking part in air defense penetration drills were China's most advanced J-20 stealth fighter jet, the J-16 multi-role strike fighter and the J-10C multi-role fighter jet, China Central Television (CCTV) reported.
"The three fighter jets… and the two missiles are perfect combinations," Song Zhongping, a military expert and TV commentator, told the Global Times on Sunday.
First, the J-20 is capable of destroying a hostile air defense system
the J-10C can take over air supremacy while the J-16 can strike enemy ground forces
The drills reflected the true combat potential of the PLA Air Force
Perfect. 1, 2, 3, kick! All hail comrade eleven gin pegs for building an indestructible communist party airforce!

And we are not even talking about Kitsap/Bremerton or other mooring places.... China's ill-thought out antics in psyops was kind of well covered by JRR Tolkein:
"A strong place and wonderful was Isengard, and long it had been beautiful [...]. But Saruman had slowly shaped it to his shifting purposes, and made it better, as he thought, being deceived - for all those arts and subtle devices, for which he forsook his former wisdom, and which fondly he imagined were his own, came but from Mordor; so that what he made was naught, only a little copy, a child's model or a slave's flattery, of that vast fortress, armoury, prison, furnace of great power, Barad-dûr, the Dark Tower, which suffered no rival, and laughed at flattery, biding its time, secure in its pride and its immeasurable strength."
Substitute Saruman with Tsinghua Clique and we kind of begin to understand why we are destined to watch this expensive drama at chinese people's expense, that is being orchestrated from across the oceans.

At one point they did genuinely seek out to buy themselves some space in Madagascar or in Australia.
I believe the negotations were on for derelict useless land.

i.e buy yourself a nation.

Naturally, once the issues of sovereignty etc crept it they talks fell through.
They need to learn from the Chinese.

The Valar does not share power either but they are still great and good :)

I will use the ancient tome of The Silmarillion for my analogy:

Unkil is Aman.

Cheen is Numenor.

Numenor envied the Light of Aman. In her attempt to match the glory of the West, she built a great fleet.

Under their 25th Emperor Ar-Parazon, Numenor attempted to invade Aman with so many ships that their sails blotted out the Sun.

But their vanity was met with complete annihilation and Numenor sank below the waves. Her people scattered to Middle Earth.

China just showed it has a new 'Dark Sword' fighter jet — and it's a nightmare for the US
:
:
:
Justin Bronk, an air combat expert at the Royal United Services Institute, said the Dark Sword "represents a very different design philosophy" than US unmanned combat jet plans.

Bronk examined the photos available of the Dark Sword and concluded it appeared optimized for fast, supersonic flight as opposed to maximized stealth.

"The Chinese have gone with something that has a longer body, so it's stable in pitch. It's got these vertical, F-22 style vertical stabilizers" which suggest it's "geared towards supersonic performance and fighter-style capability."

Though the US once led in designing drones, it was caught off guard by militarized off-the-shelf drones used in combat in the Middle East. Now, once again, the US appears caught off guard by China moving on the idea of an unmanned fighter jet — an idea the US had and abandoned.

What a bullshit, clickbait title. :rotfl:

Not an American fanboy, but the idea that a vague photo of a mockup of a plane in a Chinese workshop means that they have eclipsed the aviation prowess of a country that built and put into production usage the SR71 blackbird way back in the mid-sixties is a laughable attempt at psyops.

This is written by Americans for Americans. Not for desis so we can laugh all we want.

But they won’t.

They don’t care how much they are ahead by. If there is any remote possibility of a threat, they will take it seriously.

And increase their budget. At $650Billion, it is only three times Cheen’s and more than the next 7 nations combined so definitely room for improvement.

This is what makes them them and us us.

You can't reflect more than what you receive. If you modulate then the signatures are different. I dont think the chinese nor the westerners know our capabilities.

Let them keep guessing or fake on our observations. It will strengthen our observation capabilities.

Unmanned 'shark swarm' to be used in sea battles, military patrols
A Guangdong company has tested 56 unmanned boats and is working with the military to develop a "shark swarm" for sea battles and military patrols.

The unmanned drone-like vessels were tested in formation and demonstrated their potential for military use in the sea near Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, according to a statement the company sent to the Global Times on Tuesday.

The boats reportedly avoided islands and reefs, crossed bridges and tunnels, turned and changed their formation into the shape of an aircraft carrier with the slogan "civil-military."

South China-based manufacturer Yunzhou Tech is cooperating with the Chinese arms industry to put the "shark swarm" into the hands of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the statement said.

Western military powers including the U.S. are developing unmanned equipment including "ant swarms" for land, "drone swarms" in the air and "shark swarms" on the sea, Yunzhou said.

"The institutes together will further develop unmanned vessel systematic devices for reconnaissance, command and attack and will form a 'shark swarm' with different battle functions."

Using artificial intelligence technology, the company vowed to promote the "shark swarm" to be used in daily duty and for real sea battles and to safeguard Chinese territorial waters all the time, the statement said.

Unmanned swarm boats can be used with high efficiency in escorting, mine sweeping, intelligence gathering and amphibious operations, thepaper.cn said.

"Once equipped with weapons, unmanned small combat vessels can attack the enemy in large numbers, similar to drones," Li Jie, a Beijing-based naval expert, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

"A mother ship will control the swarm in combat, making them easy to deploy."

The number advantage means that even if some drone vessels malfunction or are jammed, others can continue, Li noted.

China is a world leader in the technology, Li said, and unmanned vessels will play a significant role in future naval warfare and aid China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity in areas such as the South China Sea.

Intel tweet from French chini watcher:
https://twitter.com/HenriKenhmann/statu ... 5905301504

Components for the third Chinese carrier are being assembled in a shed in Shanghai.

Image

We’ll probably see the carrier in drydock by end of year or next. Then two or three years after that it will be completed and at sea trials. The porki forum’s chini crowd said there are signs that Dalian is preparing for a carrier as well. Probably a sister to the one in Shanghai. They will be CATOBARs with possible EM cats.

This is the kind of planning that, as the reigning carrier and naval air power, we should have done decades ago as the original Vikrant and then Viraat were nearing retirement.

^^^ That looks like the berths and docks for the destroyers. You can see at least five destroyers (possibly 7) with three Type 052Ds berthed for fitting and two 055s being constructed in the large drydock. There are the makings of two more DDGs in the section immediately in front of the 055s.

The docks and berths for the carriers are in another part of Dalian.

The information stolen was stored on the contractor’s unclassified network despite being “highly sensitive nature,” according to information obtained by the Washington Post.

According to the report, 614 gigabytes of material on a closely held project known as Sea Dragon were taken. Contracted for the military organization Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Sea Dragon aims to develop a supersonic anti-ship missile for use on U.S. submarines.
