IMHR is medium size helicopter proposed by HAL , I dont think it has even reached a stage where it is funded , so a long way to go.

So close but yet so far away. The Vikrant has had this “almost finished” look in photos for about three years now. Keep waiting for sea trial announcements because it looks like it should be going out soon. The anticipation is like a constant ache.

India’s Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL) is seeking a vendor to perform “platform modification and installation” of the Sarvadhari communications intelligence (COMINT) system aboard the Indian navy’s IL-38 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA).
A document for the project notes that the vendor would have to perform engineering studies and analyses as part of the process to install and integrate the new COMINT kit. The planned timeframe for engineering and installation work is over a period of five months from order placement.
The Sarvadhari COMINT system includes an underbelly mounted five-blade antennae, GPS antennae, signal processing and receiver units, and a removable laptop display.

India’s Plan To Buy Helicopter Carriers Falters
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news ... rs-falters
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news ... rs-falters
The Indian Navy issued an RFP for the LHDs in late 2013, but no action was taken on the proposals. The requirement was reaffirmed in May 2017 and fresh bids invited. The financial and technical tests have been completed and the two commercial bids were submitted. However, the opening of the bids has been delayed as Navantia is currently the sole contender for a contract where competition is required. Reliance has been disqualified because of the strict clause about financial stability in India’s Defense Procurement Policy.
The situation is causing concern. “Why should a company be penalized through no fault of its own, particularly since this is an issue of precedence for the Navy?” said a senior retired naval officer.
Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016
Some great steps made in terms of SIGINT as well in recent years.
Varuna ESM which can detect LPI radars is now cleared for series production by Navy after two units were trialed extensively.
Radar Fingerprinting system which was first made for the Navy, is now mainstream on tri-service platforms, including the land based version of the GBMES for the IAF and the P-8I's.
AEW&C is the only platform so far which brings in a proper sensor fusion & battle management aspect, and it would be great if DRDO can make compact versions and mainstream that too across all sorts of platforms.

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016
These things will happen any which way since everyone wants to make money. The MoD should come up with a system where everyone gets some piece of pie irrespective of who wins the order since that would be incentive to not block the entire process for all involved. In this particular case, I believe we should split the order between both the yards once the design is finalized and have them build 2 each.
Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016
If you split the order then it will get costly for the MOD because they must have gone via L1 process , if there are dozens of ships to be built then it makes sense to split but for small numbers it gets costly. Even the pvt players wont be keen if they see little profit coming from such splitting of small orders.
Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016
The splitting or orders will work on items that are to procured in large numbers. For such a small production run. It makes no sense to split the order.
But part of the work recieved by L1 yard can be subcontracted to different yard. If modular construction methods are being employed. But QC will be a challenge that will have to be managed.

The electric car procurement by EESL was a good scheme. L1 gets (I think) 60% order and if L2 can match the L1 price, they get the orders for other 40%. Else L1 gets the orders for other 40% too.Bala Vignesh wrote:These things will happen any which way since everyone wants to make money. Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016
This is how vital acquisitions get shafted. One side deliberately gets disqualified, makes allegations about the favourites and the entire process is dumped! The MOD should instead be called MAD!
There should be a clause that once you enter the ring and contest any withdrawal/ disqualification does not mean the whole process is screwed. The last man standing should win.

At this point I am wondering if we have created too many defence shipyards for too few orders;Bala Vignesh wrote:These things will happen any which way since everyone wants to make money. Indian Navy Team Sent On Board Container Ship On Fire To Stop It From Drifting Towards Sunderbans, Bangladesh
India FP Staff Jun 16, 2018
An Indian Navy team led by Marine Commandos (MARCOS) from Visakhapatnam managed to prevent a container ship, which had caught fire in the Bay of Bengal on 14 June, from drifting any further.
The navy arrested the movement of MV SSL Kolkata by anchoring the cargo ship — still on fire — from drifting towards the international maritime boundary line in the Sundarbans delta between India and Bangladesh, reported Deccan Chronicle.
According to India Today, a Sea King 42C helicopter of the Eastern Naval Command first lowered one MARCOS officer to the burning ship, who later called in three others. The team then managed to drop the starboard anchor and also prepared the seamanship gear, in case the vessel needed to be towed. The navy told ANI that if the ship had not been anchored, it could have caused havoc to the flora and fauna of Sunderbans and to the marine life in the Ganges Delta. "No oil spill has been reported as of now," it added.
After the ship caught fire on 14 June in the Bay of Bengal, all 22 crew members were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajkiran and Dornier aircraft. Coast Guard units undertook the rescue operation despite bad weather and rough sea conditions. By the time the rescue team reached MV SSL Kolkata, about 70 percent of the vessel was on fire, and the master of the vessel had abandoned ship.
The container carrier was on a coastal voyage from Krishnapatnam to Kolkata with the crew and 464 containers. An explosion in one of the containers caused the fire, which gradually spread.

Apparently, the ship was abandoned, burning and drifting.
One MARCOS guy was winched down on to the burning ship to make the initial assessment.

Interesting possibilities open up now, because the ship was abandoned, it may belong to whoever salvages it, if it doesn't sink in the meanwhile.

Turning the ANC into a very potent forward unsinkable platorm (remember that SPore is smaller than the ANC!), from which we can project hard power into the ICS and Pacific as well as acting as the " front line of the mainland is absolutely necessary whether we need more CVs or not. The two are not interchangeable. It is only a lack of money that prevents us building more larger carriers.
However, strengthening up the ANC as discussed ad nauseum, will help to an extent the non-availability of CV no.3 esp. in the eastern sector from which subs, warships and LR maritime strike birds can operate from.

Probe by CBI, CVC sought against L&T Defence for Indian Navy warship project
RNEL's complaint reportedly mentions Vice Admiral D. Deshpande who, it has alleged, is acting virtually as "an agent" of L&T and is passing on vital information pertaining to the sensitive defence projects to the company.
The complaint also alleged that the Vice Admiral's son was going to pursue an MBA degree that would be paid for and "sponsored by L&T".
According to a media report, Deshpande has clarified his position in the matter to the Defence Ministry top brass, details of which are not available.
