Rupee touches record low against dollar in inter-bank trade - News Desk

The rupee was in free fall in the inter-bank market on Tuesday morning as it shed more than Rs11 against the US dollar over fears that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions for a loan will further devalue the Pakistani currency.

The rupee went past Rs138 to a dollar during the day’s trading session.

Traders said fears of devaluation increased demand for the greenback from importers and added that the local currency is continuously showing weakness.

Pakistan knocks at IMF door to avoid default

On the other hand, the stock market opened on a strong note on Tuesday after losing 1,300 points on Monday. In the morning session, the KSE-100 index gained 1,100 points to break the psychological barrier of 39,000 points.

On Monday, the government announced to seek IMF’s help to cope with the country’s financial crisis. Finance Minister Asad Umar vowed to revive the economy on a sustainable and permanent basis and promised steps to provide relief to common people.

Speaking on Tuesday at a news conference at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bali, Indonesia, IMF Chief Economist Maurice Obstfeld said that Pakistan has not formally approached institution for financial assistance.

Obstfeld said that Pakistan faced financing gaps as it has been hit by a large fiscal and current account deficit, a low level of reserves and a currency, which he described as “too rigid” and over-valued. China’s involvement in Pakistan’s economy could bring both benefits and risks, Obstfeld added.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been reluctant to ask the IMF for emergency loans, said last week Pakistan might need to return to the IMF to address its mounting balance of payments crisis. If there is an IMF bailout package, it would be the second for Pakistan in five years.

Rupee stable against dollar

Pakistan needs more infrastructure development, Obstfeld added, and the country could benefit from China’s role in supporting its project financing. But China’s involvement could also bring potential risks, he said. “It is important that the design of the projects… be solid and excessive debts which cannot be repaid are avoided,” he said.

Chinese officials have rejected the criticism that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects have saddled Pakistan with unsustainable debts. Instead, the Chinese maintain, they have boosted the country’s economic growth and provided 70,000 jobs.

Paki Connection Surface In That Albany Limo Crash

Owner of Limo That Crashed and Killed 20 May Be in Pakistan, Officials Say
TIME
Oct 8, 2018
The owner of the limousine company involved in the deadly crash that killed 20 people in upstate New York Saturday has been located, and investigators believe he is outside of the U.S.
“We have located the owner of the company,” said Maj. Robert Patnaude, a commander with the New York State Police, at a news conference Monday.
Shahed Hussain, the owner of Prestige Limousine, the company that operated the fatal vehicle, is currently out the U.S. and possibly in Pakistan, police said Monday. But questions still remain about his identity and the veracity of Prestige itself, which has previously been under the scrutiny of the Department of Transportation.
Reporters on Monday inquired about Hussain’s criminal history, asking police whether Hussain was the same man who had testified in a federal criminal case in Albany in 2014, to which Patnaude replied, “I would refer you to the FBI.”
Where there is smoke , there is fire. Where there is a crime, a Paki is involved
According to a New York Times report using public records, Hussain shares the same name and address as a man who is a “former informant for the F.B.I. who has testified in two prominent terrorism cases.” The Times also reported that a law enforcement official “suggested that his son may operate the limousine company.”
If terrorism is involved , maybe there is an involvement of the Deep State and CIA as well
In the report, the manager of the hotel out of which Prestige Limousine operated said the owner’s name was “Malik” and lived in Dubai. According to the Times, the informant with the last name Hussain used the name Malik when working with the F.B.I. in the past. The Times also reported that Prestige had a “history of suspicious dealings that seemed to extend to Dubai.”
Possible criminal ties aside, Prestige recently failed an inspection of its vehicles and the driver of the converted 2001 For Excursion limousine did not have the proper license to be operating the vehicle.Investigators are hoping the recovery of the limo’s “black box” will provide clues about what caused the accident.
“We’re in possession of the air bag control module, what would be considered the vehicle’s black box,” said Patnaude. “That is being being analyzed for post crash data.”
Officials said the crash is the worst land-transportation accident in the country since 2009.
If the owner is in Pakiland as reported, will he come back to face the music or seek refuge in Pakistan to avoid answering relevant questions

More Seafood, Meat, Fruit, Vegetables And Grains To Be Exported To Feed The Hungry Chinese

Pakistan, China sign US$200m agreements for seafood, steel and agri trade
ISLAMABAD – China will invest US$200 million in Pakistan’s seafood, steel and agriculture sector ( what is the meaning of "invest" in this context !) to boost bilateral business between the two Asian neighbours.
Pakistani officials signed the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for a total of 11 agreements with Chinese investors during their visit to Islamabad on Tuesday, according to commercial attaché at Chinese embassy. By investing in Pakistan, Chinese companies can promote exports to South Asia, Middle East, Africa and many other destinations.
So, Chinese companies will be established in Pakistan, muscling out local companies . Further Chinification of Pakiland
China is the world’s largest importer of agricultural products. In 2015, China imported $ 160 billion worth of agricultural products.
The Arabian Sea in and around Gwadar is going to be fished out at an extraordinary rate ( shrimp, fish, octopus, sea urchins and such creatures !) . May not be surprised if Paki Donkeys are also on the list. Donkey phallus being a Chinese delicacy ! Wild boars , considered haraam animals should also be included !
With a population of 1.3 billion people, China consumes almost $ 1 trillion worth of food every year. The domestic consumption is expected to grow by another $ 500 billion in the next 10 years.

This Is A "Dog Bites Man" Story :D

Czech court jails man for making terror threats to Pakistan
Oct 9, 2018
PLZEŇ – A court in Czech Republic has sentenced a Bulgarian national to three years and four months in jail for sending hoax terrorist threats to Pakistan in a bid to secure the release of a young Czech woman held for drugs smuggling.
The man, who goes by the name of Nikolay Ivanov and had claimed to be a Czech citizen in the threatening email, was also banned from returning to the Central European country for a period of eight years by the regional court in Plzen.
The young man had sent emails with the hoax threats to two Pakistani media outlets, including Daily Pakistan, in January this year, demanding the freedom for 21-year-old Czech model Tereza Hluskova, who was arrested while trying to smuggle 9 kilograms of heroin outside Pakistan from Lahore airport.
“ATTENTION if within 48 hours Pakistan does not release Therese which was detained with 9 kg of heroin and does not put it on an airplane for the Czech Republic there will be terrorist attacks in Pakistan Teresa can contact me on the number +4207925—– if she did not call me be released I promise to have revenge,” the email read.
In 99% of such cases, it The Paki who threatens, US, UK, India, etc etc
He later defended himself in court saying he had acted rashly and would not have committed any attacks. A court psychologist concluded that the man had no aggressive tendencies and was emotionally unstable, the Radio Prague reports. The arrest of Czech model caused an uproar in Pakistan after it was discovered that she successfully crossed two airport checkpoints, including the anti-narcotics force checkpoint before she was arrested by customs authorities.
There is probably much more to the story than the above suggests.

Pakistan buying 48 high-end military drones from China: report
BEIJING – Pakistan’s ‘all-weather ally’ China will sell 48 high-end military drones to Pakistan in a deal that is being perceived as one of the biggest deals in recent times
According to a report by moneycontrol, Wing Loong II, a high-end reconnaissance, strike and multi-role endurance unmanned aircraft system, is manufactured by Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Company; it made its maiden flight in February last year.In future, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) will also be jointly manufactured, as per the reports carried by Chinese state-run Global Times. The Pak-China deal comes on the heels of India’s move to acquire S-400 sophisticated missile defence systems from Russia; the deal was brokered during recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi.
...however, the exact worth of the deal was not revealed.
According to military expert and TV commentator, Song Zhongping the deal involving as many as 48 Wing Loong IIs, if confirmed, would be China’s largest export deal for drones to date. The deal is trustworthy given the close military ties between the two countries and Pakistan’s need for drones, Song said.
Sounds more like a counter announcement to India's acquisition of the Russian System !

Man slaughters family on faith healer’s advice in Khanewal

Oct 9, 2018
KHANEWAL – In a shocking incident of ignorance, a man murdered three members of his family, including his wife and two children, on the advice of his “spiritual healer” in Kabirwala tehsil. The incident happened on Monday in Mahni Sial village where Shaukat Ali slit the throat of his wife, and then killed his nine-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter when they were sleeping in their home. However, another son of the accused, aged 11, fled the scene after he woke up due to noise.Police have arrested Shaukat and recovered the weapon used for killing.
Is this " pir -shir business" regulated in Pakiland . Imran's wife Peerni is also involved in the same business in Pakpattan , if Paki reports are to be believed. Need a Code Of Ethics IMO
According to security officials, the suspect visited a spiritual healer Jabir Shah in Multan, seeking a solution to the problems he was facing. In response, Shah told him that his wife and daughter were allegedly involved in immoral activities and he should kill them.Shaukat, during interrogation, also revealed that he killed his family members for the sake of honour on the order of the faith healer. The Saddar police have registered a case against the suspect and further investigation is underway.
So, it turns out to be another "honour killing"

Immy's "Naya Pakistan" Launches "Mera Ghar" Program
Oct 9, 2018

"Mera Ghar": PM Imran Khan to launch 5 million housing project tomorrow
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch a pilot project of ‘Mera Ghar’ scheme on Wednesday.
The project has been conceived by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government to provide houses to homeless people in the country as part of its elections manifesto.
Sources said that the federal government has decided to launch pilot projects in four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan in the first phase of the ‘Mera Ghar’ scheme.
Imran's friend from Bartania- Aneel Mussarat - has been "appointed" Housing Advisor . He has promised to bring in "10,000 new property developers" ( on a pro bono basis which no one believes !). Interesting to see, if Aneel is going to be there tomorrow
Sources said that Mera Ghar Authority will be established after proper legislation to execute the housing project. ------------------------------
The Prime Minister will announce the project tomorrow in Lahore. The PTI before coming into power have promised with the masses to construct 5 million low cost and affordable house units for the homeless people.
Remains to be seen, if this hare brained scheme is going to another collateral damage under the IMF stringent loan conditions when monies are given to almost bankrupt Pakiland

Terroristan Reduces the CPEC US$ 60 Billion Loan by US$ 2 Billon and takes a Further Loan of US$ 42 Billion!

”Pakistan expecting another $42bn investment from China under CPEC”

Dismissing the allegations that the government is weakening China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that Pakistan is anticipating another additional $42 billion in terms of investment from China.

Speaking to a private news channel, the information minister brushed off the opposition’s accusations against the government of ‘weakening’ CPEC project. “We have decided to expand CPEC, one of the ways to achieve it if other countries invest in the project. We are anticipating another additional $42bn in terms of investment from China,” said Chaudhry. But, but, Rasheed the Cigar in the Mouth Asana Specialist pared down the Railway "Aid" Package as by US$ Two Billion ot redduce the Debt!

The investment would be utilized in providing expertise, building industrial zones, Gwadar port development and different power and infrastructure projects, informed the minister.

The opposition lawmakers in Senate accused on Monday the government of trying to ‘weaken’ the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and asked why the Parliament was not taken into confidence prior to offering a third country to join the multibillion dollar project.

“It appears – one feels as the incumbent government is rethinking CPEC programs and if media reports are juxtaposed with the statements from the Foreign Office, an impression is emerging that efforts are underway to dilute the project,” claimed Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Raza Rabbani .

Meanwhile, the Information Minister was of the view that the government will complete all projects signed by the predecessor Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s govt with China under CPEC.

On Monday, the government cut the size of the biggest Chinese “Silk Road” project in Pakistan by $2 billion, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed said, citing government concerns about the country’s debt levels. Rasheed the Cigar Asana Specialist!

The changes are part of Islamabad’s efforts to rethink key Belt and Road Initiative projects in Pakistan. “Pakistan is a poor country that cannot afford huge burden of the loans,” Rasheed told a news conference in the city of Lahore.

“Therefore, we have reduced the loan from China under CPEC for rail projects from $8.2 billion to $6.2 billion,” he added, referring to the CPEC. Rasheed the Cigar in the Mouth Asana Specialist!

With the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government finally making the “difficult decision” of approaching the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout to address the mounting balance of payments crisis faced by the country, the ruling party has drawn the ire of thousands of social media users.Amid the criticism that PTI is facing over its “double standards” – censuring previous governments’ practice of seeking loans and resorting to the same – the official Twitter account of the party’s Lahore wing has deleted a tweet that criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for approaching the IMF.
Interestingly, the IMF has "clarified" that no official "application for loan " has yet been received has been received from the almost bankrupt Pakis

The "Dam Obsessed" Paki Vs The Dead Quiet Indus !

Dead-quiet, flows the Indus
Daily Times Pakistan
Oct 9, 2018
Sarang Mangi
It is often said that the man who pulls the lever that breaks your neck should be a dispassionate man. As dispassion is the very essence of justice. For justice delivered without dispassion is always in danger of not being justice but the honourable chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar is a man of passion. He is passionate about saving Pakistan. A few months back he stated that anyone who is against dams, is against Pakistan and anyone who is in the favour of Pakistan, will work towards building dams.
Dam Obsessed !
His passion for building dams to save Pakistan resulted in a pervasive judicial-cum-political campaign to collect money for dams. It spread everywhere, at some schools, teachers attached letters in children’s homework diaries, encouraging parents to donate for the dam. Banks, cellular networks, media outlets, and educational institutes jumped right into the bandwagon, all patriotically flaunting advertisements, encouraging Pakistani citizens to fund the dam. Even public service messages encouraging breastfeeding are ending with the ‘Fund the dam”.
He offered a choice to Pakiland's biggest crook, Malik Riaz , pay a massive fine - Rs 1 Trillion or build the Dam !
And why not? The highest judge of our country has found a talismanic solution and is afraid to wait too long lest it magically disappears. He has left no page unturned to ensure Pakistan’s survival. Rest assured, our country’s judges are well acquainted with Mario Puzo, as well as the Sicilian way of delivering justice. The chief has already made an offer he thinks no one can refuse. He has cautioned that “everyone opposing this effort is a traitor and an enemy of the state.” and will be severely punished under article 6. And as we all know freedom of expression can be sacrificed when it comes to the matters of national security and survival. Our chief has warned, that the dam is essential for Pakistan’s survival and security and hence “Those who resort to criticism do it on other matters, but not on the issue of dams’ donation.”
Mind you, the honourable Chief Justice’s plan is sustainable as well. He has declared that after his retirement, he will put up a tent in front of the dam and will guard it day and night. He has also consulted experts to apply their brilliant minds in this regard. He has said that the experts had told him that the only way out was to build more dams “otherwise, the nation will have to fight for its existence”.
Environmental experts quote ‘dams’ among the top anthropogenic activities threatening the biodiversity of rivers and their delta wetlands. Unfortunately, the herpetofauna of Indus is not protected by the law in the country. The existence of 3 million hectares of Indus Delta and a plethora of a complicated biodiversity depends on the continuous flow of the Indus River. Their existence is threatened by dams, what is being called “wastage” of water in the sea is in fact lifeline for the entire ecosystem of Indus Delta along with the native people who have depended on this resource for centuries.
Sorry, the CJP is not an "expert on environment"
If we were well versed in latest scientific literature on water conservation, we would know that dams, undoubtedly, make nice political statements as they are large and visible, but require a lot of investment and are not the wisest answer to water conservation. In the presence of much lower cost, efficient methods of water conservation, investment in new dams seems out of place. Using dams to secure water supply for irrigation is similar to using a bazooka to kill an ant. Yes, it will definitely kill the ant, but it is a fairly inefficient way of doing it, and will destroy many other things in the process.
But we are a nation on a mission to protect Pakistan and would not allow the freshwater of Indus River to flow freely all the way to the Arabian Sea only to be wasted as an unused resource. And in order to ensure it,we want to conserve it in a colossal concrete box hundreds of miles away from the native people of the delta and coastal areas who are surrounded by water all year yet have no water to drink.
The CJP is surprisingly quiet these days on the " Dam Business"

Bangladesh refuses to accept Pakistan envoy
Economic Times
Oct 9, 2018
New Delhi: Pakistan's ties with Bangladesh are set to dip further with Dhaka refusing to accept Islamabad's new envoy following allegations of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission being misused to perpetrate ISI activities against Dhaka and Delhi.
The post of High Commissioner of Pakistan in Dhaka has been vacant since this March. While Islamabad nominated a new envoy to Dhaka Saqlain Syedah, the Hasina government has refused to accept her. The Pakistan High Commission is being charged with encouraging activities against the Bangladesh government.
Bangladesh government sources told ET from Dhaka that the Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka has emerged as a centre of anti-government activities as well as activities against India.Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, alleged that Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka was misusing social media tools such as Facebook to spread disinformation campaign.
It is no secret that Pak-Bangla ties are far from cordial and the Hasina government did not budge from executing the 1971 pro-Pak war criminals over the past 10 years despite Pakistan’s plea.
The previous BNP regime has been accused of promoting ISI designs from the Bangladeshi territory against India, including support to the insurgent groups from Northeast India. However, within months after coming to power in 2009, Hasina cracked down and handed over all insurgents to Delhi. The ISI has also been accused of promoting activities against Awami League.
Pakistan has protested !

Salamat Masih was convicted for blasphemy by a segment of the judiciary that was too scared to ask how an illiterate boy could have chalked anti-Islamic remarks on the wall of a mosque(alleged chalkings that the complainant had confessed to removing so there was no evidence). (1)

World Bank sees fragile economic situation in Pakistan for two years - Shahbaz Rana

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s economic situation is expected to remain fragile for at least two years as a combination of low economic growth and high inflation due to stabilisation policies will undermine efforts to lift people out of poverty and create jobs, says a new World Bank report.

Findings of the World Bank’s report – the South Asia Economic Focus, Budget Crunch – contrast with the PTI government’s agenda of creating jobs and lifting people out of poverty.

The report says Pakistan is the only country in South Asia that has a limited room for manoeuvring, is exposed to serious boom-and-bust economic cycles and has high build-up of liabilities.

Rising global interest rates and tighter liquidity situation will also pose challenges for Pakistan, given the high gross external financing requirements, said the Washington-based lender in the report that was released on the eve of World Bank-IMF annual meetings.

Pakistan knocks at IMF door to avoid default

The World Bank has warned that a sharp decline in foreign exchange reserves – now standing at only $8.4 billion – and elevated debt ratios have diminished Pakistan’s ability to withstand external shocks and risks will remain predominantly on the downside.

It seems that there is consensus among the three leading international financial institutions that the economic growth rate will slip below 5% this year. After the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank has also projected that economic growth is projected to decelerate to 4.8% in this fiscal year, as the government is expected to tighten fiscal policy to correct imbalances. It said the growth rate is expected to recover in fiscal year 2019-20 and may reach 5.2% as macroeconomic conditions improve.

But short-term measures for fiscal consolidation and export growth need to be complemented with the implementation of medium-term structural reforms to uplift the economy out of frequent boom-and-bust cycles, it added.

The World Bank report showed that this year all the three main sectors of the economy will face a slowdown, most notably the services sector that contribute nearly 60% in total national output.

Similarly, inflation is expected to rise to 8% in this fiscal year and could remain high in the next fiscal year due to devaluation of the rupee against the US dollar and increase in domestic prices, stated the World Bank.

“The growth deceleration and higher inflation are expected to slow down poverty reduction in fiscal year 2018-19, though overall poverty decline is projected to continue reflecting GDP growth,” according to the lender.

The bank underlined that Pakistan’s macroeconomic situation would remain fragile as consumption-led growth is expected to slow down due to fiscal and possible monetary tightening.

The lender noted that the pressure on the current account is expected to persist and the trade deficit is projected to remain elevated during the next two years as well. The report said Pakistan faced sharpest deterioration in the current account deficit in the region. The growth of imports is partly the result of capital goods imports for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), but it is also the consequence of growing macroeconomic imbalances, according to the report.

It further stated that the fiscal consolidation would improve debt dynamics, but the public debt to GDP ratio is expected to stay around 70% of GDP during two years. The debt has already climbed to 74% of GDP, it added.

It said a delayed adjustment of the exchange rate led to considerable loss of reserves, bringing coverage down to only one and half months of import cover by end-September 2018. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) intervened heavily in the foreign exchange market in the first half of FY18 to maintain the value of the Pakistani rupee, resulting in a large decline in international reserves.

These debt levels are high in international perspective. The report warned that Pakistan’s external financing needs are expected to increase further over the next few years, partly due to loan repayments and profit repatriation related to projects in CPEC.

The government has estimated $31-billion external financing needs in the current fiscal year in the baseline scenario.

Paki Authorities Find Another "Fake Millionaire" In Karachi

Another Fake Account with Millions of Rupees Transaction Unearthed in Karachi
Oct 9, 2018
After the ‘billionaire’ Karachi falooda vendor, another fake account has been unearthed in Karachi which was used for millions of rupees transactions.
A female employee of Sindh health department recently received tax notice from the Federal Board of Revenue stating that millions of rupees transactions have been made from his bank account and she did not pay any tax despite the hefty transactions. After receiving the notice she was shell-shocked as she neither has an account in the mentioned bank nor so much money to make such huge transactions.
The government employee, Sarvat Zehra, says she came to know about the fake account through the FBR tax notice. The FIR served on her a notice for recovery of Rs110 million in taxes over the transactions made from her bank account. She says that her CNIC and mobile number were used for opening the fake account. She recounts some four years ago she had lost her cell phone and that phone might be used for opening the account.
About the transactions, she says that how it is possible such a huge amount is transferred from the account of a lower grade government employee.
She added that the FBR has advised her to contact the Federal Investigation Agency, which is currently investigating fake bank accounts’ matter on the order of the Supreme Court.Last month, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) discovered a hefty amount of Rs2.25 billion deposited in a bank account opened in the name of a Karachi falooda vendor.
Abdul Qadir, a resident of Orangi Town, Karachi, learned that he has Rs2.225 billion in his bank account after FIA summoned him. He only came to know about the hefty amount when he got a letter from the FIA.The deposit was unearthed during investigations related to the biggest money laundering scam in Sindh’s history.

Newspaper Columnist Made Govt Spokesman On Economy

Dr Farrukh Saleem made government spokesman on economy, energy issues
The News International
Oct 9, 2018
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Farrukh Saleem, economist, financial analyst, journalist, as spokesperson on economy and energy issues. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry announced on Twitter saying Ministry of Information is pleased to announce that Dr Farrukh Saleem will be the government’s spokesperson on Economy and energy issues.

He writes for the News International

From His Wiki Page
In March 2013, Saleem applied his theoretical insights to analyse the "Kayanian Doctrine"— a geopolitical contingency armed program of Pakistan military built on four pillars, comprises:[13]

- American troops would have to withdraw from Afghanistan.
- Reconciliation among Afghan factions is not possible without the ISI.
-The Jalalabad-Torkham-Karachi route remains the most viable for withdrawing American forces.
- India cannot be allowed to encircle Pakistan.
Saleem observes that the doctrine has apparently put India out of the Afghan war equation but in all probability, Pakistan’s security challenges are going to become even more challenging when the militants of all sorts and forms could team up in their attempt to subdue Pakistan in which Pakistan military has no contingency plan.

Farrukh Saleem is normally sane and gave common sense analysis on what is wrong in pakistan economy and has been critical of all the ruling parties and its ministers. His appointments as government spokesmen and boy did he change. Just today was watching him in talk show where he was arguing against Miftah Ismail of PML-N, the good things PTI is doing and how its is all PPP/PML-N fault for the ills pakistan is facing.

They must have appointed a ISI picked, kattarpanti paki supporter of the beedi opposition and hence the rejection. This is the usual brinkmanship of the new slimeball paki FM.
