After the Khashoggi Murder, Pakistan Shakes Down Weakened Saudi Prince for $6 Billion

Pakistan has emerged as an apparent winner from the international outcry that followed a Saudi hit team’s murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul at the beginning of October. By rushing to stand by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, widely accused of ordering the execution, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan got a $6 billion aid package, which he desperately needs to salvage the Pakistani economy. There undoubtedly is more to the deal, including benefits for Saudi-backed terrorist groups in Pakistan.

---------

Khan got a deal this time. In fact, he got a bigger deal from his second trip than he had asked for on his first. The Saudis provided Khan with a $3 billion balance of payments deposit at a time when Pakistan’s reserves are at a four-year low. In addition, the Saudis agreed to defer payments for oil deliveries to Pakistan for three years, which is worth at least another $3 billion. The Pakistanis are asking the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia’s junior partner in Yemen, for additional aid.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Qureshi has said that there are no strings attached. Asked how the deal happened, the urbane Qureshi said “by the grace of the Holy Prophet.” He was adamant that Pakistan is not changing its approach on Yemen, and since Khan’s party is a strong critic of the war, that’s probably correct. Qureshi also said that the Saudi deal has nothing to do with the ongoing criminal charges against Nawaz Sharif.

Since the deal was signed, the Pakistani government has removed from a list of proscribed groups two organizations headed by Hafiz Saeed—the mastermind of the Mumbai terrorist attack, which took place 10 years ago next month. Saeed was one of the few voices who lobbied to send Pakistani troops to fight in Yemen and he has long raised funds for his terrorist activities in the Kingdom. He also has close ties to the ISI, which trained and assisted the Mumbai killers.

During Musharraf days, the Terroristanis tried seriously to establish diplomatic support with Israel. The two foreign ministers met and Musharraf said he was not 'averse' to another client. The General even offered his services to settle the Arab-Israeli conflict. That's some temerity for the President of a country which not only never had a diplomatic relationship with one party to the conflict but also vows to destroy that party by joining with the other party to the conflict!!

Paki Paper Cautions Govt On "Israeli Rapprochement

Israeli rapprochement?
OVER the past several days, there has been a flurry of reports concerning Israel and its contacts with Arab and Muslim states.Last week, it was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu flew into Oman for a secret meeting with Sultan Qaboos; news and pictures of the visit were only made public after Mr Netanyahu was back in Tel Aviv. Following the visit, a senior Omani minister told a conference in Manama that it was time to accept the Zionist state.Along with these political developments, Israeli competitors and ministers have been in the UAE and Qatar of late as part of sports and cultural activities, with Israel’s flag flying at the venues, along with the playing of its national anthem. Then, of course, there were reports of an Israeli business jet mysteriously flying into Pakistan; the reports have been vehemently denied by the government, but the rumours refuse to die down.
It is hard to imagine that all this diplomatic flurry all of a sudden ( Israeli Minister in UAE, Israel jet in Isloo, Benjamin in Oman ) can occur without a nod-nod wink wink from Ummah Head Saudia
It would be naive to assume all these developments — especially the growing bonhomie between Tel Aviv and the Gulf Arabs — are mere coincidences. It is highly likely that both parties are being given a ‘friendly’ nudge by the US to make peace officially (backchannel contacts are a barely kept secret), especially considering that both Israel and the Arabs are under American patronage.
US of course is "committed" to isolate Iran for its own reason, and its proxies Saudia , and Saudi proxy Pakiland is being "forced to comply" now that Pakistan has received the requisite moolah from Saudia . Pakistan will have no choice but to "submit" to Saudi say so in this matter. And this is why, the "respected" DAWN is cautioning the Immy Govt not to get too cozy with Saudia and to still adopt a hard line approach to Israel , so as not to alienate the Iranis . Maybe, the Irani Foreign Minister who was recently in Isloo, diplomatically conveyed the same message to the Pakis !
This perception is given credence as senior US officials have welcomed the contacts. If peace — and justice for the Palestinians — are the goals, then there may be no harm in diplomatic initiatives. However, if there is a sinister plan at work, such as isolating Iran, then there is cause for alarm. Both the US and the Gulf Arabs have no love lost for Tehran, and vice versa, hence the normalisation of Arab-Israeli ties could be linked to further squeezing Iran.
Agree 100% . This normalization is driven by Massa's plan to further isolate Iran !
But while geopolitics may be governed by selfish interests rather than morals, it should be remembered that Israel continues to slaughter Palestinians at will. In fact, as Gulf Arabs were posing for pictures with Israeli officials, the Zionist state’s military was busy exterminating Palestinian children in Gaza.Israel’s behaviour towards Palestinians, especially under the current Likud regime, has been appalling, hence the Arab autocrats will have a tough time explaining the sudden warming of relations with Tel Aviv.As for Pakistan, considering that this push for rapprochement in the Gulf may be linked to isolating Iran, as well as the repeated violation of Palestinian human rights by Israel, the government needs to proceed very carefully.
Now that the Saudis have given a "lot of money" to the Pakis, they would expect the Pakis to toe their line re Israel . And supply some fodder for the war in Yemen as well .

Seems TSP is seeing spate of protests at Pak SC (PSC) dismissing case against Asiya Bibi.
Its all over their cities.

I think PSC gave judgment to bolster image before IMF to get loans etc.
Now public is telling what they really think.

Some mullahs have questioned Dimmy and Bajwa parentage.
A real cat fight is underway.
Maybe after 72 hours the Jihadi-e-Fistula will restore orders.

Indian Security Forces In Kashmir Kill Nephew Of Masood Azhar

Masood Azhar’s Nephew Killed, Half of His Sniper Cell Eliminated in 'Biggest Success' for Forces This Year
News 18
Oct 31, 2018
Security forces on Tuesday gunned down a militant, in South Kashmir’s Tral district, who is believed to have been the head of the module that was carrying out sniper attacks on forces in the Valley for the past 10 days. The Pakistan-based militant was identified as Mohammad Usman. He was the nephew of Moulana Masood Azhar, the chief of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad. A senior security official deployed on ground described the killing of Azhar’s high-profile nephew as “the biggest success for the forces in this year.”
Usman was the son of Azhar’s elder brother Ibrahim, who was involved in the hijack of the IC-814 in 1999 to free the JeM chief. He is believed to have infiltrated the Valley less than a year ago and had laid low since, possibly to revive the terror outfit founded by his uncle.
However, for the past nearly two weeks, he became active by creating, what security agencies believe was a four-member sniper cell, two of who were also killed in the encounter on Tuesday.Security agencies have, meanwhile, sounded a full alert in anticipation of reprisal attacks by Jaish. Usman’s younger brother Umer is also in the Valley since July, sources said.
Usman turned on his sniper cell around 10 days ago and since then was believed to have targeted and killed eight security force personnel in over a dozen attacks. As Usman and his other militant colleagues took out security personnel one-by-one, they soon became the biggest security challenge in the Valley. The Inspector General of Police issued a review of the ‘snipers’ and of the security provided to the VVIPs.
Even the army chief issued a statement a statement saying that the force was looking into reports of snipers entering the Kashmir Valley to target defence personnel.
The source added that the house in which the militants were hiding has been blown up and the process of recovery of weapons is still in process. While the weapon handled by Usman has still not been recovered, he is believed to have been firing from a NATO grade weapon which has a range of around 170 meters.
This weapon is expected to be sent to a ballistics laboratory to find more about the nature of the weapon and possibly the place from where it was procured.
Jaish is the terror group responsible for carrying out several high-profile fidayeen attacks like the one in Mumbai on 26/11.
And of course, the founder of Jaish, Maulana Masood is the mentor of another well known terrorist - Omar Saeed Sheikh, currently languishing in jail for the murder of Daniel Pearl . And Omar Saeed Sheikh was himself an Agent of Paki Deep State. Besides being a Double Agent for British MI- 5 !

Iranian Foreign Minister holds important meeting with PM Imran Khan
Oct 31, 2018
ISLAMABAD - Mohammad Javad Zarif Khonsari, Foreign Minister of Iran called on Prime Minister Imran Khan today on his second visit during the past two months.
Iranian FM is visiting Pakistan to discuss relations between the two countries and issues of mutual interest including the recovery of 12 Iranian border security guards .
IMO, there is "something" brewing behind the scene. First, the Iranis are "furious" that their border guards were kidnapped by a Pakistani Terrorist Group, active in Balochistan, which may or may not have Saudi financial support for their "mischief".
Secondly, the Iranis are more suspicious now of Paki shenanigans , considering that they have received billions from MBS for salvaging the recent Conference . The Saudis expect the Pakis to "be in their camp" vis-a-vis their "fight" with the Iranians.
Thirdly, the Iranis want to "know" more about that mysterious Israeli Aircraft that landed in Isloo . Part of a US plan to mend fences with the "Zionist Entity" and further isolate Iran ?. The Iranis want to be assured that the Pakis are not part of this game.Hence the visit to clear the matter .

Khan Finest Hour

Khan’s finest hour
DAWN - Khurram Hussain
Nov 1, 2018
LAST night was a rare spectacle. For far too long we have watched our country’s leadership quake at the knees when confronting the forces of bigotry and hatred. In most cases we watched in horror as rival political factions thought they could use these forces to put wind in their own sails. Nobody, it seemed, had the courage to call them what they really are: marginal voices in this country’s electoral landscape, using violence and virulence as strategies to assert themselves in the public space.Last night Khan changed all that, hopefully. At least if the moment is to last and not run out of air soon. Last night he took an unequivocal and strong line against religious bigotry and hatred that we have not seen taken in almost two decades. The last time I recall a leader of this country being this clear in dismissing the politics of hate was in the early years of the Musharraf regime, and therein might lie a problem. Because Musharraf’s resolve fizzled out as the increasingly heavy burdens of rule weighed him down.
The usually sane columnist has got it all wrong IMO. First, he should have waited/ reflected before he began singing the Khan's paeans through this column. The Islamis have not needed the Kaptaan's stern warning. Khadim Rizvi's followers are out on the streets of Karachi, Lawhore and Isloo today also. The Kaptaan is off to China and his minions are confused. His Govt has caved in and "offered talks" to TLP and others . So much so for "toughness" ! And some reports have suggested that the "poor Christian woman" will not be allowed to leave Pakiland !
What the TLP leadership said in their speeches all day following the announcement of the verdict, joined in by Samiul Haq, was nothing short of incitement to rebel and mutiny within the armed forces, and calls for the violent overthrow of the sitting, democratically elected, government. In other words, some might say the words were truly treasonous, the real treason, not the treason of twitter trolls who bandy this word around like a toy gun.

Like the TTP "snakes" earlier "cultivated" by the Deep State, the TLP "snakes" have also come to bite the Army , which before the election , a Major Gen of the fauj was shown on camera feeding them Rupees !
The judgement authored by Justice Khosa deserves equal praise. Here too, the judgement is ultimately weighed down by the baggage of the moment. The biggest such baggage is the sheer delay: Aasia Bibi had to spend eight years in prison before her conviction was finally overturned. Who will give her those years of her life back?
In a "normal" country, her lawyer would file suit for wrongful detention and claim monetary damages. But this is Pakistan ! IMO, the Pakis need to pay attention to western public opinion on this subject , because if she is not allowed to leave this accursed country soon, there will be a public relations nightmare, along the lines of the Kashoggi affair !
What happened after the judgement showed what real treasonous language sounds like. It showed the true face of those the state needs to be fighting, dissuading and otherwise containing. Using these people as political pawns was always a bad idea, no matter the ends being pursued. So ultimately the right lessons need to be drawn so we don’t keep finding ourselves on the cusp of such battles.
This was Imran Khan’s finest hour, thus far, but he is in the game for much longer than an hour. Having found the right words, let’s hope he can find the right actions to put behind them.

Wrong IMO. It is not his finest hour ! He used TLP against Ganja Sharif before the election. Now the same beardos are going to make trouble for him !

Human Rights Commission Of Pakistan Welcomes The Asia Bibi Verdict And Urges The Pakistani Government To Rein In The Tehreek- E- Labbaik Pakistan And Give "Justice" To 40 Other Similar Detainees On "Death Row"

HRCP welcomes landmark Asia Bibi verdict
Nov 1, 2018
The News International
‘With at least 40 other people reportedly on death row or serving life sentences for blasphemy, both the state and civil society need to introspect. From a human rights perspective, the Supreme Court’s detailed judgment underlines several of the most problematic aspects of applying the blasphemy laws.
‘HRCP strongly condemns the vicious reaction of all far-right religious-political groups who have taken to violent protests and openly threatened the lives of those associated with this case.
The Press Release dated Nov 1, 2018, signed by the Chairperson of HRCP specifically mentions the Khadim Rizvi "outfit" , which this newspaper chooses not to mention for its own reasons !

Foreign exchange: SBP's reserves fall $48m, stand at $7.78b - Our Correspondent

KARACHI: The foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank continued to spiral downwards for the 10th successive week as they fell 0.61% on a weekly basis, according to data released on Thursday.

The continued drop in the reserves raises concern about Pakistan’s ability to meet its financing requirements as the reserves have fallen below the $8-billion mark.

However, the government announced on Tuesday last week that it had managed to secure a financial package of $6 billion from Saudi Arabia. This will help provide much-needed breathing space to the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Although the impact is yet to be seen, the Saudi assistance will immediately push the official foreign currency reserves back into double digits in addition to lessening the stress on the external sector.

Foreign exchange: SBP’s reserves fall $219m, stand at $8.1b

The prime minister has also left for China to seek further assistance. Additionally, in early October, Pakistan formally requested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sidelines of IMF-World Bank annual meetings to help address the country’s economic challenges.

On October 26, the foreign currency reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were recorded at $7,776.9 million, down $48.1 million compared with $7,825 million in the previous week.

The decrease was attributed to external debt servicing and other official payments.

Overall, liquid foreign currency reserves held by the country, including net reserves held by banks other than the SBP, stood at $14,184.5 million. Net reserves held by banks amounted to $6,407.6 million. It must be taken into account that SBP has taken US$ 5.8 Billion from the Commercial Banks and the figures given above are a case of Double Accounting. Thus the real figures are :- SBP : US$ 01.9769 Billion - COMM BANKS : US$ 06.4076 Billion - Total : US$ 08.3845 Billion ONLY!

A month ago, China agreed to immediately give a loan of $2 billion to Pakistan, a move meant to arrest the slide in foreign currency reserves and provide much-needed breathing space for the new government.

Earlier, the reserves dipped to $9.06 billion, forcing the central bank to let the rupee depreciate massively for the fourth time since December 2017 and sparking concern about the country’s ability to finance a hefty import bill as well as meet debt obligations in coming months.

In April, the SBP’s reserves increased $593 million due to official inflows. A few months ago, the reserves surged due to official inflows including $622 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and $106 million from the World Bank.

The SBP also received $350 million under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) earlier.

In January, the SBP made a $500-million loan repayment to the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), China.

Housing ‘Pakistan’ - Nabeel Qadeer
Pakistan has the largest population of slum dwellers in the world with 45.5% of the total urban population living in slum settlements and Karachi’s Orangi Town surpassing Mumbai’s Dharavi. The populace, however, is counted as an economic burden. The reasons include limited economic activity, illegal occupation of state land, and possible involvement in street crime. Therefore, the proposition of relocating the dwelling group in more developed housing units.

Russian, Indian And Iranian
"C.P.E.C " In The Works - Paki Media .

India, Iran, Russia want to create alternative trade route to Suez Canal
Russia, India and Iran will meet later this month to discuss the operation of the 7,200-km International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which is seen as “a cheaper and shorter alternative to the traditional route through the Suez Canal,” according to the Iranian news agency.
The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a multimode network of sea and rail routes, will link the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf via Iran to Russia and North Europe.
The project comes in the backdrop of China’s multi-trillion-dollar One Belt One Road initiative. Within Iran, the two routes overlap in a potential boon to future businesses.New Delhi has been actively courting Tehran, given the utmost importance it attaches to the route and Iran has been receptive.
China has said that is "open" to other countries joining CPEC. Pakistan has also "invited" brotherly Iran to join the same . It now seems , if this report has any credence, that the Iranis are joining the Russians and the Indians in devising something new . How will Massa react to this , considering its existing plans to isolate Iran economically and diplomatically, remains to be seen !
Once operational, the corridor will allow India to send its goods to Bandar Abbas ( what about Chahbar  ) in Iran by sea, from where they will be transported to Iran’s Bandar Anzali on the Caspian Sea by road. Next, they will be shipped to Astrakhan in Russia and transported into Europe by rail.
The route will cut the time and cost of delivering goods by about 30 percent to more than 40 percent. Compared with the Suez Canal, the corridor will reduce the transport time between Mumbai and Moscow to about 20 days. The estimated capacity of the corridor is 20 to 30 million tonnes of goods per year.
India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday met a Russian business delegation in New Delhi, where he said: “all issues may be resolved in order to operationalize the (INSTC) route as early as possible.”
An official statement said India, Russia and Iran will hold a trilateral meeting on November 23 to make the route operational soon, Indian media reported Tuesday.
To access resource-rich Central Asia, India has to route its goods either through China, Europe or Iran. The routes through China and Europe are long, expensive and time-consuming, with Iran being the most viable one.

Dutch ambassador’s life at risk amid growing TLP agitation: report
The life of Dutch Ambassador to Pakistan Ardi Stoios-Braken is at risk amid the worsening law and order situation in the country, especially due to the agitation movement launched by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after the Supreme Court acquitted Aasiya Bibi in the blasphemy phase.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, there are reports that zealots, with alleged links to the Labbaik, have planned to stage an attack on the Dutch envoy in a bid “to seek revenge for uploading of blasphemous caricatures by Greet Wilders, Dutch parliamentarian, on his personal Twitter account.”

A Fairly Objective Article On The Pakistani Ship Of State in Choppy Waters For The Last 70 Years . IMO , It Will Remain In Choppy Waters Indefinitely , Until Some Sort Of A Khomeni Type Leader Combined With A Junior Army Officer, Topples The Corrupt Set Up. Then There Will Be Mass Exodus , Like In Iran !

Mass Confusion Following Asia Bibi's Release
Course Correction
Najam Sethi
Friday Time
Nov 2, 2018
POSTED IN FULL
By acquitting Aasia Bibi of the charge of blasphemy, the three judges on the Supreme Court Bench (Chief Justice Saquib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel) have shown great wisdom and courage. Wisdom because this case had become a “showface” of Pakistan tagged to the troubling question of whether the country would continue to slide down the dangerous path of religious violence at home led by fanatics like Khadim Rizvi, Sami ul Haq et al and be ostracized abroad, or demonstrate a willingness for “course correction” with significant dividends. Courage because the judges could not help but be mindful of the fact that 62 people accused of blasphemy have already been murdered before being brought to trial and ex-Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer and ex-Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti laid down their lives for defending innocent people accused of blasphemy. The fanatics have now declared that the three judges are “Wajib al Qatl”, meaning they are “worthy of death”.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also had the courage to stand up and back this judgment. For this he must be lauded (notwithstanding his criticism of Nawaz Sharif when he took the courageous decision to order the execution of Mumtaz Qadri who was convicted of murdering Salmaan Taseer). Praise is also due to the COAS, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, without whose forceful backing the judges and prime minister might well have balked. The extremists have also targeted him.
There was a moment, however, when hope for Aasia Bibi seemed to dim. That happened when the judges withheld their decision after concluding the hearing. This allowed the fanatics time to plan and organize widespread protests in the event of an acquittal. It is now clear, however, that the decision was taken on advice to give Imran Khan’s new government time and space to firm up its bearings to face the challenge of the fanatics.
But the fruits of this sole “victory” for the rule of law (for which Aasia Bibi spent nine years on death row) will surely be squandered, and the courage and wisdom of the three judges will go in vain, if state institutions, political parties, parliament and society do not collectively shoulder the responsibility of changing laws and challenging practices that feed into religious fanaticism and violence by targeting innocent citizens, no less than judges, journalists and policemen upholding the law. This is the first time since 2002 that the Supreme Court has heard an appeal against conviction for blasphemy (by the Lahore High Court).
For a welcome change, too, Pakistan has been lauded abroad for protecting minority rights instead of being lambasted at the altar of human rights as usual. The International Court of Justice, the British parliament, the US State Department, and global rights organisations have heaped praise on the judges and expressed the hope that this judgment might pave the way for Pakistan’s return journey to “normal statehood” as envisaged by its founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Can we dare sniff that prospect in the air?
Certainly, there are some potential “course correction” signs to decipher. After a long and often bitter impasse in US-Pak relations over a “solution” acceptable to all stakeholders in the civil-war in Afghanistan, experts are suggesting that the two sides are finally ready to take reciprocal steps to break the deadlock before the Afghan elections next year. Pakistan has also offered unconditional talks to India, an unprecedented move to end the proxy wars that have only served to feed religious fanatics. Now it seems that Islamabad is thinking of moving in the direction of the mainstream, “pragmatic”, Muslim world in fashioning its Israel-Palestine policy. Following in the footsteps of Egypt, Jordan, Turkey and Oman, now Saudi Arabia and the UAE are thinking of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel. It may be recalled that the Musharraf regime weighed the pros and cons of talking with Israel ten years ago but abandoned the move because it could neither whip up popular support nor silence potential critics. But the current proponents of “realignment with pro-West forces” may think the time is ripe for it now. Imran Khan’s government needs a significant financial bailout from the West and its Muslim allies like Saudi Arabia and the UAE; the opposition PPP and PMLN are under the Miltablishment fist and dare not mount any significant opposition; the media is obediently towing the line. The only fear is that any such Pakistani realignment should not play into the hands of an anti-Iran coalition because that could have serious consequences for domestic stability.
The main stumbling block, however, over any stragtegic “course correction” by the Miltablishment is the divided polity of Pakistan. The PPP and PMLN which still represent mainstream Sindh and Punjab are in the dock, alienated and angry. The PTI’s parliamentary majority is wafer thin and there is considerable grumbling in its ranks. Indeed, instead of trying to cobble a political consensus on the “course corrections”, PTI leaders are bent on punishing the opposition and driving it into a corner. This needs to be reversed, if gains achieved by course correction are to be permanent.

Stabbed to death

No the creator of Taliban. Maulana of Akhora Khattack whose party is allies with Imran Khan niazi.
Influential religious scholar and former senator Maulana Samiul Haq has been assassinated at his residence in Rawalpindi, his son has confirmed.

Maulana Hamidul Haq said his father was stabbed to death while he was resting in his room.

"His driver Haqqani had gone out. On his return, he saw that Maulana Sami was lying in his bed in a pool of blood. He was no longer alive," Hamid said while talking to Geo News.

The news of his death comes at a sensitive time, with religio-political parties out on the streets protesting the Supreme Court's acquittal of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman, in a blasphemy case.

Sorry. You are right check this news

https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/neig ... 1991-12-15

ill just a few weeks ago, she was consigned to obscurity in Islamabad's salubrious outskirts. But last fortnight 33-year-old Tahira (nobody knows her second name) hit the headlines, after her startling disclosures about the not-so-kosher extra-curricular activities of a member of the clergy.

Ironically, Haq, who has been attacked for sexual peccadilloes, was the prime mover of the Shariat Bill.
Madame Tahira, as the press named her, made amazing revelations about the nocturnal activities of the ruling elite, which were later retracted. But the Islamabad Sex Scandal exploded when Pakistani high society was still reeling from Tehmina Durrani's revelations about her feudal lord.

The central character, the ruling Islami Jumhoori Ittehad's (IJI) dissident Senator Maulana Samiul Haq, who hadn't been cited by name at the time, denied his involvement as the issue was discussed in the Senate.

Ironically, Haq was one of the prime movers of the Shariat Bill. "I'm innocent. I've been framed by government agencies for opposing official policies," he shouted in the House, but later resigned from office.

However, few were outraged by the scandal in a country with a tradition of sexual indiscretion by those in power. Former chief martial law administrator general Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan rose to greater fame for his orgies.

Akleem Akhtar, called General Rani - who ran the bordello which catered to Yahya Khan - had vivid tales about the general's "unique" sexual practices. The charismatic Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was a playboy of sorts. But he was never charged with perverted sexual behaviour.

Madame Tahira (left); and Maulana Samiul Haq: Dangerous liaisons
However, Haq's story - appropriately headlined by Pakistan's premier daily, The News, as 'Burning a scandal at both ends' - was different. Tahira mentioned the maulana's sexual prowess during a "sandwich session". This reportedly involved his own son-in-law and one of the madame's charming young hostesses.

Interestingly, Tahira claimed the maulana's appetite was insatiable during the debate before the passage of the Shariat Bill. Ironically, the legislation prescribes "exemplary" penalties for sinners. Tahira had also cited many politicians and top government officers.

Among those using coded phone calls to have escorts dropped off at their residence were a minister, and another maulana - who led the anti-Salman Rushdie campaign.

Tahira apparently has several rolls of negatives with government functionaries caught in action. As an IJI member said, the maulana was not lambasted for just having sinned, but for getting caught at a time when the Government was reeling in the aftermath of the cooperatives collapse and the loan scandals.

The sex scandal could have been a chance for the administration to divert attention away from opposition attack.

This is the argument of those who say the highest in the land has got away unscathed with his affairs. The reference is to the one who's said to have been overheard singing Kishore Kumar's Aisay na mujhay tum dekho to a socialite

All,

Now we have two parallel threads on pakhanistan that seemingly have similar contents. I have mixed thoughts on this and am slightly confused. Why was this necessary?

His bodyguard and driver, most likely, ISI operatives, took off 15 mins before the attack.

About ham sandwich retiring to meet his hoors, something doesn't gel right.

Maulana Sami ul Haq stabbed to death in Rawalpindi
"My father could not join the protest in Islamabad due to road blockage and returned to his house for rest due to his old age"
"His driver went out for half an hour and when he returned, he found Maulana lying in a pool of blood"
Maulana had recently been aligned with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
Known as father of Taliban...
Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is on a five-day visit to China, has taken notice of the killing of Maulana Sami ul Haq and asked for a report.

So, el papa, came home to rest and his deeriver promptly took off for half hour (on some errand). No s'curity? Thirty minutes? Something black in the lentils with el sonny and the deeriver.

So, if the tellibunnies (both paki and haqqanis) were a pain in the rear for TSPA, then baki COAS should be doing cartwheels on the streets of 'slummabad and 'paindi. But, here he is expressing remorse and grief. Maybe it was the ISI.

COAS Gen. Bajwa strongly condemns assassination of Maulana Sami Ul Haq
General Qamar Javed Bajwa has strongly condemned assassination of renowned religious scholar and political leader Maulana Sami ul Haq.
Expresses grief and condolences to the bereaved family

Interesting link. My only suspicion is why his driver and bodyguard took off. Usually ISI keep their people in that position.

All ij well that endj well.

Government, TLP reach agreement to end nationwide protests

Image
...the government making the concession to "initiate the legal process" to place Asia Bibi's name on the exit control list (ECL).
The government has also said it will not oppose a review petition filed against the Supreme Court's judgement in the Asia Bibi blasphemy case.
The government has also promised to take appropriate legal action to redress any deaths that may have occurred during the protests against the Asia Bibi verdict and to release all people picked up in connection with the protests starting October 30.
The TLP has in turn apoloigised if it "hurt the sentiments or inconvenienced anyone without reason".
I think qualifies as Total and Unconditional Capitulation, don't you think?

ca·pit·u·la·tion (kə-pĭch′ə-lā′shən), n.
1. The act of surrendering or giving up
2. A document containing the terms of surrender.
