BREAKING: Gen Hameed Gul's son Abdullah Gul survives attempt on life in Islamabad. Reportedly his jeep came under fire on Islamabad Expressway. Remained unhurt.

Lesson: Those who live by the sword die by the sword as well . Karma , sooner or later will catch up on you.
IMO, Imran Khan will most likely cut short his China visit ( or will not go to Malaysia as planned ) to take "personal control" of the deteriorating situation.
Expect some cabinet ministers to take the fall for this . They will be made to resign
But the Fauji actors who encouraged the TLP and Khadim Rizvi- before election will go scott free . Nothing likely will happen to them
Next time, the Immy Govt will think twice when confronting the Islamis.
Hard to control the "Islam genie", once out of the bottle . It can work both ways . As a force for "Jihad" useful to fight US, India, Israel and Afghanistan . But as happened now, once they are "encouraged" , they want Pakistan to become more "green" . And minorities are collateral damage ( Asia Bibi)

Whatever Imran Khan does or does not do, this episode is not going to "repair Pakistan's broken image" in the eyes of the world !

Lines are being drawn it seems, as we speak. There are enough factions now which resemble the chaos and anarchy in Germany before hitler came to power. It could lead to civil war in toiletistan, leading to the army stepping in (again) to prevent the nukes from getting into wrong(er) hands.

Factions on opposite sides of each other:

1. The army
2. Goberment with judiciary
3. Opposition with their own agendas, often competing with each other
4. The good tellibunnies with their allied islamists
5. The bad tellibunnies with their allied islamists
6. Shia's and their legions of mards
7. Freedom movements in K'rachi, Sindh and B'lochistan
8. Wadheras with their private armies
9. Afghans (don't forget this faction)

Stuck in between all these factions are the minorities, qadianis, liberals, women...that's why the next week will be very telling. And to top this, SeePack and the legions of hard working chinis stuck in pakhanistan. A cocktail made in hell.

Apparently Asia Bibi has been flown out of the country. Good for her and family. But what does that really say about the state of Pakistan? The state has to sneak her out the backdoor because it has absolutely no control over security, and no monopoly on violence.

When the dust settles, it will be interesting to listen, read, view Asia Bibi's interview with a foreign reporter in the foreign country where she has been whisked away !
More problems ahead for Pakistan's "broken image", which cannot be repaired now !

The Kaptaan Should Not Have Left The Islami Genie Untouched In The Bottle During The Election Campaign. ! He Did Not And Now He Faces Backlash From The Islam Brigade

In Asia Bibi blasphemy violence, Imran Khan faces the Frankenstein’s monster
Gul Bukhari - The Print
Nov 2, 2018
Blasphemy accused Asia Bibi’s acquittal and final release, after more than nine years in prison, by the Supreme Court has plunged Pakistan into chaos.
The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, a Barelvi group led by cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi who is known for his extremely profane language and the 22-day long Faizabad Dharna of 2017, mounted protests in every major city to oppose the verdict. In video messages, the TLP leaders called for murder of the three judges on the bench that acquitted Asia Bibi, and urged Muslim generals to rebel against the ‘Qadiani’ Bajwa, a derogatory term for Ahmadis, and oust the ‘Jew’ Imran Khan.
And this is the same person who received monies- before the election - from a Major General Of The Paki Army !
It has been a long wait for Asia Bibi, a poor Christian woman who worked as a farm picker in Nankana, Punjab. She was accused of blasphemy and swiftly imprisoned in June 2009. In 2010, a trial court convicted her and handed out death sentence for disrespecting Prophet Muhammad. Mother of five young children, she has languished in prison since then. Her appeal was rejected by the Lahore High Court in 2014, but she finally got justice from the Supreme Court Wednesday.
All the 3 "Justices" have to be shit scared . A TYLR "Leader" ( Qadri) has openly asked drivers, cooks or security people to kill the judges !
Asia’s case gained international spotlight because of Pakistan’s human rights record. Just this year, the European Union tied trade access to her case. The protests turned into grotesque rioting and arson. Schools had to shut down and many children in different cities were stuck because half of the roads were blocked by the TLP and the other half by local police. In Karachi and two other cities in Sindh, the violence snowballed into Shia-Sunni fight with two dead in Karachi by night. Government ministers and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan remained conspicuous by their absence the entire day.
Clerics of other religious parties joined the chorus with all the Deobandi, Ahle Hadees, and Barelvi groups denouncing the judgment and announcing that they will join the protests Friday onwards. These groups were joined by two major religio-political parties, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Not sure, what "Mullah Unity" , at least in the short term, will mean for Imran and his Govt . Also not sure, how the so called secular opposition ( PML-N and PPP) will make "political hay" out of this !
There was no statement from the military or its Twitter-happy spokesman either. Media had been given instructions the previous night on ‘no coverage’ of any protests – and it complied. There was a complete media blackout in Pakistan for the last 48 hours. However, social media was flooded with details.
At nightfall, finally, PM Imran Khan addressed the nation. Within two months of coming to power, his five years of politics of dharna, incitement to violence, blasphemy campaigns, civil disobedience, disruption to traffic and closing down of different cities had come to bite him back. He first appealed and then threatened the TLP for its actions. Not too long ago, Imran had actively supported the TLP’s violent protests against the Nawaz Sharif government.
Once the Islami genie is out of the bottle , hard to put it back and seal the bottle again
Social media reacted immediately, putting out clips of Imran and his ministers’ past videos of violent speeches, incitement to violence, and their supporters rampaging the Pakistan Television building and Parliament.
Ironically, Imran Khan in his seven-minute address to nation Wednesday said exactly what his government was trying to hide from the Pakistani public. In the video, the PM ended up saying what the TLP leaders had been saying all day, the things that the media had blacked out: that General Bajwa was a ‘Qadiani’ and the army should rebel, and that protesters had called for the murder of the judges. But interestingly, Imran Khan skipped any mention of him being called a ‘Jew’ and demands for his ouster. After going MIA the whole day, Imran Khan was now threatening use of force and promised protection of life and property. But even after his speech, violence, loss of life, mayhem in schools, colleges, and markets continued all night and well into Thursday. At the time of writing this piece, the situation remains volatile with one more death reported on the Lahore-Islamabad motorway.
I still think that the Kaptaan is going to cut short his journey to China and fly back ! And address the Awaam once again !
he politics around the issue of blasphemy that Imran Khan used incessantly during his days in the opposition has now turned into the proverbial Frankenstein’s monster. His opposition politics was clearly supported by the establishment then – clear from the way the army chief refused to come to the aid of government to control the TLP in 2017, and how a military general distributed money among the goons at the end of the ‘protest’. Imran’s opposition politics inevitably emboldened these radical voices. At that time, all the sane voices had warned against this fire of dangerous politics – but none heeded. But the fact that it would come back to haunt the nation so soon was entirely unexpected.
None of the earlier judgments had focused on the dispute itself, overlooking the countless holes and contradictions in the prosecution’s case. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa went far enough to say that the Muslim women committed blasphemy by disparaging Asia Bibi’s religion, book and God. For the first time any member of the legal community, no less a judge, has not only focused on this point, but also made it a part of his judgment – a point I had made in my article in 2011.While we heave a sigh of relief over the verdict, Pakistan risks burning in the fire of religious hatred, use of religion for politics, and the clear prospect of sectarian wars.
And the journo Gul Bukhari is looking for a possible deportation as well ! She has already been "roughed up" once !

Cash-strapped Pakistan at ´low point´, PM tells China

Beijing: Pakistan´s financial woes have dragged the country down to a "low point", its prime minister told Chinese President Xi Jinping Friday, as he seeks funds from Beijing to stave off a fiscal crisis.

Before travelling to China -- one of Pakistan´s firmest allies -- Imran Khan said that he was striving to obtain financial aid from two unnamed countries after Pakistan secured $6 billion in funding from Saudi Arabia.

His government has also entered talks with the International Monetary Fund over a potential bailout as it grapples with a balance of payment crisis and current account deficit.

Greeted by Xi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Khan said he had come to "learn" from China´s experiences in combatting poverty and corruption.

"Unfortunately we have inherited a very difficult economic situation," Khan said.

"Countries go in cycles. They have their high points, they have their low points. Unfortunately our country is going through a low point at the moment," he said.

Xi said he attached "great importance to China-Pakistan relations" and was "willing to work together with the prime minister to strengthen China-Pakistan´s all-weather strategic partnership and build a new era of China-Pakistan destiny."

But neither leader announced any deals. Khan will meet with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday and will attend a massive import expo hosted by Xi in Shanghai next week.

The two countries are building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a multi-billion-dollar project at the heart of Xi´s Belt and Road Initiative, an ambitious trade infrastructure programme spanning the globe.

The corridor aims to increase energy and transport links between the western Chinese region of Xinjiang with the Arabian Sea via Pakistan.

However, given Pakistan´s deteriorating finances, in recent months there have been concerns that portions of the agreement may have to be scaled down.

Analysts said Khan would push for financial assistance from Beijing, an important creditor of Pakistan, during the visit.

Since taking power in August, Khan has sought loans from "friendly" countries like Saudi Arabia, vowed to recover funds stolen by corrupt officials, and embarked on a series of populist austerity drives to raise cash.

Pakistan has gone to the IMF repeatedly since the late 1980s.

The last time was in 2013, when Islamabad got a $6.6 billion loan to tackle a similar crisis.

LAHORE – The launch of a bus service between Pakistan and China, which was scheduled for November 3, has been postponed due to prevailing law and order situation.A private Pakistani transport company, North-South Transport Network (Pvt) Limited, set to launch the service but the officials of the firm has decided to inaugurate it on November 5.
The situation is unlikely to "return to normal" by that date . Hope the transport company has "riot" coverage.
One-way ticket from Lahore to Taskurgan costs Rs13000 per seat One-way ticket from Tashkurgan to Lahore costs RMB 600 (equivalent to Rs11,475 under current exchange rate). Return ticket is Rs23,000.
Most likely the visa issuance sytem will be tightened up further in view of the current situation .

Paki Govt In Panic Mode

Pakistan works to stop Asia Bibi leaving after blasphemy protests
The Guardian UK
Memphis Barker
Nov 2, 2018
Pakistan’s government has been accused of signing the “death warrant” of Asia Bibi after it said it would begin the process of preventing her leaving the country.Bibi, a Christian farm labourer, was acquitted of blasphemy on Wednesday. She had spent eight years on death row after she drank from the same cup as a Muslim, prompting false allegations that she insulted the prophet Muhammad. The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration signed an agreement with the anti-blasphemy group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Friday night, giving in to many of its demands in the face of massive, countrywide protests calling for Bibi to be put to death.
So, the Govt of Imran Khan has caved into the demands of the TLP !
In a document signed by the PTI’s religious affairs minister and the TLP’s second-in-command, Pir Afzal Qadri, the government promised not to oppose a court petition to reverse Bibi’s release. It also pledged to work in the meantime to put her name on the exit control list (ECL) which would prevent her leaving the country.“Placing Asia Bibi on the ECL is like signing her death warrant,” said Wilson Chowdhry of the British Pakistani Christian Association. Bibi, a mother of five, remains in the same prison where last month two men tried to kill her, although she has been shifted out of her windowless cell.
There are some rumours that she has been bundled out of the country and gone to Canada !
The agreement was a “historic capitulation”, tweeted analyst Mosharraf Zaidi. On Wednesday night, the prime minister and leader of the PTI, Imran Khan, defended the verdict acquitting Bibi and suggested the government would clamp down on protesters it termed “enemies of the state”.
Another item to the U Turn List
The TLP has agreed to call off its protests, which saw thousands of Islamists blockade the country’s major motorways, burning cars and lorries and chanting that they were ready to die to protect the honour of the prophet.Meanwhile, the government has promised to free any TLP workers arrested during the three-day protest. The group has only apologised for the damage it caused, the cost of which one government official estimated at $1.2bn (£900m).
This incident alone shows how powerful the Mullah Brigade is in Pakiland !
Afzal Qadri told the Guardian “the government has almost accepted our maximum demands” and that if it backtracked “we can come [out on the streets] again”.
Islamists poured on to the streets after Friday prayers in a show of force that briefly unified extremist groups from the majority Barelvi sect, which the TLP springs from, and the more traditionally hardline Deobandis. Terrorist-linked outfits including Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat held rallies in Islamabad, alleging that the EU had pressurised the government into releasing Bibi. While the protests were ongoing, unknown assailants stabbed Sami ul Haq – the 80-year-old founder of the Haqqania madrasa known as the “father of the Taliban” – to death in his own home.
The spokesperson for Pakistan’s army, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, said that the military’s chief condemned the assassination and expressed “grief and condolences” for the ul Haq family. Earlier in the day, Ghafoor released a statement about the protests which avoided criticising the TLP, despite its leaders calling for soldiers to mutiny.
Would not be surprised if Immy cuts short visit to China to personally deal with the situation . Financial crunch meanwhile on the back burner

Spineless Imran Khan Govt Succumbs To Mullah Brigade Demands !

Five-point pact ends dharna ( Hindi word "adopted" - in the lexicon of Oordu - by Islam Pasand Pakiland )
The News International
Nov 3, 2018
ISLAMABAD: Talks between the federal government and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) remained successful and the two sides reached an agreement on Friday evening, sources told Geo News.
The religious party has agreed to end the countrywide protests and sit-ins against the acquittal of Asia Bibi. A five-point agreement has been signed by the two sides.
According to the agreement, the government has agreed that it would not object to the review petition, filed by the complainant over Aasia Bibi’s acquittal, and that due process would be followed to bar her from leaving the country.
The five points of the agreement are listed below:

1. A review petition has been filed in the Aasia Bibi case, which is the right of the petitioners. The government will raise no objections over the review petition.
2. Due process will be followed immediately to include the name of Aasia Bibi in the Exit Control List (ECL).
3. Immediate legal action will be taken over the martyrdom of any individuals during the protest campaign against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi.
4. All those arrested on October 30 or afterwards in the protest campaign against Aasia Bibi's acquittal will be released immediately.
5. The TLP apologises to anybody whose sentiments have been unnecessarily hurt during the incident.
The agreement was signed by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sahibzada Dr Noorul Haq Qadri, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat, representing the government, and Pir Mohammad Afzal Qadri and Mohammad Waheed Noor from the TLP.
After the agreement, the TLP chief Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi said he expected that the final judgement on the review petition would be in accordance with Quran and Sunnah.
e announced holding a public meeting at the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal on his birth anniversary on Nov 9, while a march would be held from Faizabad Interchange to Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi on Nov 25 to pray for the departed souls of the martyrs of the protest movement.
Pir Afzal Qadri told the media that Aasia Bibi had again been put under detention and the airplane which had arrived from the UK to take her to some Western country had flown back without her.

So, the Mullahs have succeeded ! And the spineless govt has backed down ! So much for Imran's address to the nation where he talked about "justice and malsi" and how false accusations kept a "poor Christian woman" in jail !
And one of the TLP Leader ( Qadri I believe who signed the agreement . ) had openly called for the assassination of the 3 judges, calling Bajwa a Qadiani and Immy "son of a jew" . Once again shows how powerful, the Mullah Brigade is in Pakistan !!!

Maulana Sandwich gone?

Some thoughts at this time.

He was the Emir of Darul Uloom Haqqania is in the town of Akora Khattak near Peshawar. This Deobandi institute was founded in 1947 by Maulana Abdul Haq, father of Samiul Haq. Now, his son will take over.

On Jan 9, 2001 (just 8 months before 9/11), he organized a conference of Islamic parties and terrorist groups, attended also by Gen. Mirza Aslam Beg and ex-ISI chief Hamild Gul as well as most Islamist and Jihadi terrorist tanzeems and leaders in Pakistan & Afghanistan, that declared Osama as a great hero and vowed to protect him.

The Maulana was expelled from EU in 2005 and was denied a UK Visa in June, 2007.

Angered by the award of knighthood to Salman Rushdie, the Maulana advised the Pakistani government to devise a similar scheme of recognition and give the first award to Osama bin Laden.

Haqqani Network founder Jalaluddin Haqqani, Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) leader Asim Umar and slain Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, were among alumni of the seminary which is dubbed as the 'University of Jihad'.

In 2016, the PTI-led Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government sanctioned Rs.300 million to Darul-Uloom-Haqqania under Government budget.

This is the best play by the IK government. Let the bloodletting die a natural death, which it will after a few days.

If the government had stepped up force to take on protesters either via the police or the army, it would have led to widespread internal dissent, culminating in a mutiny, coup or worse. Radical ideology has been warmly embraced across all levels of Paki government so it's hard for IK to declare war on islamists. It's much easier to deal with a few days of violence, some bad press articles, and then return to normalcy, during which time IK will anyway be in China.

Thanks but no thanks

A Russian oligarch of Pakistani origin (yes, such a being exists!) was recently approached by The Great Khan’s vizier and offered a JV at our long-defunct steel works. This oligarch apparently has a close relationship with the strongman of his country of adoption, and upon consultation, received a resounding “no”. Ditto in the case of a giant Gulf construction group who were asked to invest in the Land of the Pure. They mooted the proposal with their international consultants who were unequivocal in their opposition to any such idea. The Bhilai Steel Plant is a "Twin" of the PSM Plant, both having an initial capacity of 1.1 Million Tonnes Annually - but - the Bhilai Plant is THIRTY YEARS OLDER than the PSM Plant. Bhilai now Produces Five Million Tonnes Annually and is in the Proess of being Upgraded to 7.5 Million Tonnes Annually! PSM closed around THREE YEARS AGO!

Aasia Bibi’s lawyer says he is leaving Pakistan
Nov 3, 2018
Express Tribune
ISLAMABAD: Aasia Bibi’s lawyer Saiful Malook on Friday said he is leaving Pakistan as his life is in danger. Talking to The Express Tribune, Malook, however, clarified that he would return to Pakistan to represent Bibi at hearing of the review petition if the army provided him security. “My family is also facing immense security threat and the federal government should provide security to them,” he added. Full text of Supreme Court’s judgement in Aasia Bibi case. Meanwhile, complainant Qari Muhammad Saalam has requested the Supreme Court for the early hearing of a review petition against its October 31 order to acquit Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who was booked for blasphemy in 2009.
Filing an early hearing plea, Saalam said Aasia is planning to leave the country and an application has already been filed to place her name on the Exit Control List (ECL). In case this review petition is not fixed, he said, the application/petition shall suffer an irreparable loss and injury. It is learnt that the review petition, which was filed in SC Lahore registry, has been transferred to Islamabad registry where all judges are sitting. A number has also been allotted to the review petition.
Legal team of the petitioner expects that the review petition may be fixed the next week. However, review petitions are very rarely heard so soon. Several “lacunas and factual legal contradictions” have been raised in the review petition filed through Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry and Azhar Siddique.Highlighting “inordinate delay, defective investigation and other technicalities” in the review petition, he has asked whether these should be made hurdles in dispensation of justice although the SC was bound to take into consideration the nature of the case and the test which were especially applicable to a normal case in view of the application of blasphemy laws read with judgements of the superior courts. The petitioner has also asked whether the country’s top court had jurisdiction to overrule a peculiar fact like the confessional statement of Bibi. Pointing out the shortcomings, Salaam has asked whether the SC, acquitting Aasia, met the standards of jurisprudence set in this regard in view of the history as well as Islamic provisions and normal principle of justice with reference to application in blasphemy laws. The petition also sought if the SC had taken into consideration inclusion of members of the Appellate Shariat Court in its bench, adding that the matter needed detailed consideration due to the peculiar circumstances of the case as well as application of Section 295-C in its time letter and spirit. The complainant said the SC did not interpret the provisions of Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 read with Section 295-C of Pakistan Penal Code as well as Article 25 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 while passing the judgement.
If the decision is reversed, then the Paki Supreme Court is going to be the "laughing stock" of the whole judicial world . DJinnah, himself a lawyer, turning in his Karachi grave

Fearing for life, Asia Bibi's lawyer flees Pakistan; requests govt to protect family – PTI

ISLAMABAD: The lawyer of Asia Bibi fled Pakistan early Saturday after fearing for his life amid countrywide protests by hundreds of radical Islamist hardliners against the acquittal of the Christian woman who was sentenced to death for committing blasphemy, media reports said.

Bibi, a 47-year-old mother of four, was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting Islam in a row with her neighbours. She always maintained her innocence, but has spent most of the past eight years in solitary confinement.

Her lawyer Saiful Malook claimed that he was facing life threats from sections of lawyers and it was difficult for him to practice in the prevailing situation, the Express Tribune reported.

He, however, clarified that he would return to Pakistan to represent his client at the hearing of the review petition if the army provided him security. Oh, wise one - are you not aware that these "Terrorist Groups" have been created by the Terroristani Armed Forces in General and the Army in Particular?

"My family is also facing immense security threats and the federal government should provide security to them," Malook said.

It was not immediately known as to which place he was headed for in his bid to evade life threats and how long would he stay there.

Meanwhile, the complainant in the case, Qari Muhammad Saalam, has requested the Supreme Court for the early hearing of a review petition against its October 31 order acquitting Bibi, who was booked for blasphemy in 2009.

Saalam said Bibi is planning to leave the country and an application has already been filed to place her name on the Exit Control List (ECL).

In case this review petition is not fixed, he said, the application/petition shall suffer Pakistan

It is learnt that the review petition, which was filed in the Islamabad Supreme Court Lahore registry, has been transferred to the registry where all judges are sitting.

A number has also been allotted to the review petition.

The legal team of the petitioner expects that the review petition may be fixed for the next week. However, review petitions are rarely heard on a priority basis.

Several "lacunas and factual legal contradictions" have been raised in the review petition filed through Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry and Azhar Siddique.

Highlighting the "inordinate delay, defective investigation and other technicalities" in the review petition, the petitioner has asked whether these should be made hurdles in dispensation of justice.

The petitioner has asked whether the country's top court had jurisdiction to overrule a peculiar fact like the confessional statement of Bibi.

He asked whether the apex court met the standards of jurisprudence set in this regard in view of the history as well as Islamic provisions and normal principle of justice with reference to application in blasphemy laws.

The apex court's judgement, which was pronounced last Wednesday, triggered protests across Pakistan with protestors led by Islamic political party Tehreek-iLabaik Pakistan and other groups blocking major highways and roads in different parts of the country.

Educational institutions were closed in many parts of the country. Many universities across Pakistan announced cancellation of papers due to the ongoing tense situation.

The mobile phone and internet services also remained suspended in major cities. Ah! Terroristan has returned to its Terroristani NORMALITY

The tiger has tasted blood. Now the islamists know their power and will not miss any opportunity to use it. IK has just postponed the inevitable. The islamists will dictate terms and make him dance to their tune. No doubt about that. Molvi has taunted IK and even contemptously abused his mother and said "Mazakraat humne kya teri maa se kiye thein" and "Pakistan tumhari maa jahez mein nahi layi thi"

He actually had a make or break moment, and it looked for a short time post his speech that he was actually going to stand up to them. I don't think that there would have been a major bloodbath, like all cowards and bullies those idiots will melt away once real force is shown (it is a different question as to whether IK himself can command the forces to stand up to them). This was why all the Paki liberals and media and anybody even slightly sane was celebrating after his speech and full of optimism.

Thankfully for us, he capitulated and climbed back aboard the slow-moving Islamist train wreck that Pakistan has become over the last 50 years.

Slightly OT observation, but perhaps relevant because of the British (including both the deep state and the Guardianista type loony left who support Islamism and hate India) history as the most prominent of the Paki FourFathers: Not one article on Asia bibi on the website has the comments section open, whereas any and every critical article on India is open for comment and full of Pakis, India-hating racist Brits, and self-loathing JNU-type coconuts to vent their biased and hateful crap on India.

Mrs Hussain Haqqani ( AKA Farahnaz Ispahani ) Blasts Imran Khan And His Govt Over Asia Bibi File

A judgment and its aftermath
The Hindu
Farahnaz Ispahani

The reaction by extremist Islamist groups to the Pakistan Supreme Court’s decision to acquit a poor Christian woman, eight years after she was charged with blasphemy, highlights the country’s deeper problem.
After years of religious rhetoric as an essential element of national politics and statecraft, Pakistan often finds itself at the mercy of hardline clerics and unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit religion for political gain. The result is not only loss of individual liberty but also a state of permanent crisis.
This "state of permanent crisis" is not likely to go away for a long long time . !
The Asia Bibi case has all the elements of Pakistan’s inherent weaknesses. First, the law allowed neighbours with a grudge to persecute Asia Noreen, usually referred to as Asia Bibi, and now, even belated judicial recognition of her innocence seems unacceptable to those rioting in the streets. They want to kill someone against whom the Supreme Court found no credible evidence and are threatening apex court judges as well senior military commanders while trying to force Pakistan to a halt.
She was tried under British common law system . ( Innocent until proven guilty ) Now, the Islamic clerics want her tried under Sharia Justice . ( guilty until proven innocent !)
Ms. Bibi, an illiterate berry (falsa ) picker, was convicted of defiling the name of the Prophet Mohammed. She was accused by her Muslim neighbours who objected to her drinking water from the same glass as them because she was Christian. Under Pakistan’s blasphemy law, her alleged comment is punishable by death. In 2010, Ms. Bibi, at age 39, was sentenced to hang, but her final appeal remained pending until the Supreme Court decision on Wednesday.
In intervening years, Ms. Bibi’s case became an international cause célèbre. Earlier this year, Rome’s Colosseum was lit in red in support of persecuted Christians, including her, and Pope Francis described Ms. Bibi, alongside a Nigerian woman who was captured by Boko Haram, as “martyrs”.

The Mullahs do not care about Pakiland's image abroad ( Khadim Rizvi once threatened to "atom bomb" Holland !) but the Paki Govt wants favourable tarrif terms from EU . And EU has made this conditional on the release of Asia Bibi
The Pope’s attention to Ms. Bibi’s case paralleled efforts by the European Union’s Special Envoy for the promotion of the freedom of religion or belief to secure her release by making it a condition for continued European market access for Pakistani products. The Pakistani government was informed that the future of Generalised System/Scheme of Preferences (GSP) status to Pakistan, which allows Pakistan duty-free access to EU markets, would be directly linked to the peaceful resolution of the blasphemy case.
The reason the Supreme Court heard Ms. Bibi’s appeal and acknowledged in its judgment what had been widely known — that witnesses against her had either retracted their testimony or contradicted each other — can be found in Pakistan’s severe financial woes. Ms. Bibi got relief she should have been entitled to as a right just because the Chief Justice wanted to help a weak new government struggling to manage the country’s external finances.
The Mullah Brigade does not care about Pakiland's financial woes . Allah will provide IF the Islamic System ( whatever it means !) is implemented in Pakiland . This has been the mantra for the last 70 years or so
Pakistan’s blasphemy laws date back to the military dictatorship of General Zia-ul-Haq. A series of changes were introduced in the 1980s, making derogatory remarks against any Islamic personage a crime under Section 295 of Pakistan’s Penal Code and punishable by three years in prison; prescribing life imprisonment for “wilful desecration of the Quran”; and punishing blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed with “death, or imprisonment for life”.
Ms. Bibi’s case illustrates how blasphemy laws are used to persecute the weakest of the weak among Pakistan’s religious minorities. As a poor Christian from a low caste, she was among the most vulnerable and susceptible to discrimination. And the legal system — which, in theory, should be designed to protect the innocent — failed her in every way until political expediency necessitated otherwise.Laws prohibiting blasphemy or harming religious feelings exist in many countries, although in some places they are rarely used even if they still exist on the statute books. But in Pakistan, which has one of the highest numbers of blasphemy cases in the world, the charge is used widely to settle grudges or property disputes.
On last count, 40 such "blasphemy" cases, are now pending in the Paki courts !

As Pakistan gets increasingly isolated internationally, the military may have sought Ms. Bibi’s acquittal and reported departure to safety abroad to relieve some pressure on Pakistan’s image around the world. She is reported to have left Pakistan and to have been reunited with her husband, daughters and grandchild.
There is some confusion as to her whereabouts . Some latest rumours says that she is still held in the same jail and the "Deep State" has "assured" the Mullahs that she has not left for "abroad" !
To claim moral leadership, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan attacked hardliners and appealed for calm in a televised address, taking a U-turn from his pre-election rhetoric that had projected him as a defender of the Prophet’s honour and a crusader against blasphemers.According to Mr. Khan, the hardliners were “inciting [people] for their own political gain” and were “doing no service to Islam”. But Ministers have also started negotiating with the extremist clerics, and it is only a matter of time before another U-turn is taken to fashion some compromise with the hardliners. The Supreme Court’s decision in the Asia Bibi case is a small step in the right direction but a long journey awaits Pakistan in reversing the cumulative injustice it has meted out to its religious minorities over the decades.
Another example of an U Turn made by the Kaptaan

The main stumbling block, however, over any stragtegic “course correction” by the Miltablishment is the divided polity of Pakistan. The PPP and PMLN which still represent mainstream Sindh and Punjab are in the dock, alienated and angry. The PTI’s parliamentary majority is wafer thin and there is considerable grumbling in its ranks. Indeed, instead of trying to cobble a political consensus on the “course corrections”, PTI leaders are bent on punishing the opposition and driving it into a corner. This needs to be reversed, if gains achieved by course correction are to be permanent.

what is this new word "miltablishment" by the author. Miltary as ruling establishment.

China says more talks needed on economic aid for Pakistan – Reuters

BEIJING: China will provide Pakistan with economic aid but more talks will take place to fix the details, a senior Chinese diplomat said, after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday.

Pakistan’s foreign reserves have plunged 42 per cent since the start of the year and now stand at about $8 billion, or less than two months of import cover. Terroristan Real Reserves – IN US$ BILLIONS are ”SBP : 01.9769 – COMM. BANKS : 06.4076 – TOTAL : 08.3845

Last month, The country received a $6 billion rescue package from Saudi Arabia, but officials say it is not enough and the country still plans to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to avert a balance of payments crisis.

It would be Pakistan’s 13th rescue package from the multilateral lender since the late 1980s.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People following PM Imran’s talks with Li, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou said his country would help.

“During the visit, the two sides have made it clear in principle that the Chinese government will provide necessary support and assistance to Pakistan in tiding over the current economic difficulties,” Kong said.

“As for specific measures to be taken, the relevant authorities of the two sides will have detailed discussions,” he added, without giving details.

The premier told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday that he had inherited “a very difficult economic situation” in Pakistan.

Pakistan-China bus service to launch today

Pakistan has looked to amend CPEC to put greater emphasis on projects that focus on social development, rather than purely on infrastructure.

Kong said there would be no change in the number of projects under CPEC.

“There is no change at all. If there were, it would only be to increase, not decrease” the number of projects, he added.

However the scope of the project would increase and will tilt in favour of people’s livelihoods, Kong said, also without elaborating.

After visiting Beijing, PM Imran is also set to be a key note speaker at a major import fair in Shanghai, an event that China hopes will show the world the country welcomes foreign companies and their products.

Pak-China agreements

Pakistan and China on Saturday also signed 15 agreements and MoUs extending cooperation in diverse fields such as agriculture, industrial and technical training, Radio Pakistan reported.

An agreement regarding strategic level talks between the foreign ministers of the two countries was also reached.

The two sides also signed agreements regarding poverty alleviation in Pakistan and strengthening of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industrial sectors and technical training were also signed by the two sides.

A MoU for cooperation in forestry, earth sciences and transfer of electronics was also signed during the visit.

An agreement was also reached between Higher Education of Pakistan and Science Academy of China whilst another was signed between the Chinese Academy of Science and Pakistan Metrological Department.

The signing ceremony of the agreements was witnessed by PM Imran and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.

A madness that binds: The common thread linking murdered J&K BJP secretary Anil Parihar with Pakistan's Asia Bibi

A madness that binds: The common thread linking murdered J&K BJP secretary Anil Parihar with Pakistan's Asia Bibi
The shooting, only a few days before the festival of Diwali, was so brutal, it left the area in shock and under curfew as investigations are underway, probing possible militant involvement. However, the timing of the murder is not surprising, given what is happening quite near Kishtwar. In neighbouring Pakistan.
Today, Pakistan is facing protests and sit-ins across the country, called by the Labbaik-e-Pakistan (LeP) chief Khadim Rizvi and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed. The reason — the Supreme Court of the nation recently found a poor Christian woman, Asia Bibi, innocent of blasphemy, and ordered her release. This, after the woman spent eight years in prison, on death row. And after jihadi elements gunned down people speaking up for her, including the Governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, and minority affairs minister Shabaz Bhatti, in 2011.
But their murders have clearly not satisfied the likes of the Lashkar and Labbaik ganglords.Joined by other jihadi outfits that have sprung up like acne on Pakistan’s nuclear-moustachioed face, these groups are leading the mobs baying for Asia Bibi’s blood now. The woman has reportedly been banned from leaving the country by a government that is duty-bound to provide her — and particularly after the intense suffering she's undergone — safe passage to any country which can offer her the decency of a modern, and not an insane medieval, state.
The murder of Anil Parihar, and the potential murder of Asia Bibi, are deeply — in fact, inextricably — linked. For the militancy of Kashmir is now nothing more than a mirror to the growing madness of Pakistan.
Kashmiri terrorists today don’t even bother with the pretence of 'azaadi' for the sake of having their own independent modern nation. They are instead candid, in their half-wit manner, about their dream of having the azaadi to go join Lashkaris, Labbaiks and other louts on the streets of Karachi and Lahore, in the merry pastime of stoning Asia Bibis to death, and occasionally stringing up an Ahmadi or shooting a Shia for variety. That is the azaadi Kashmiri terrorists want.
The azaadi to join Pakistan in its meltdown to lunacy.
It is this death wish, this dream of the dimwit’s dreadful paradise, that drives the jihad in Kashmir, the stone pelting, the sniper shootings and the militant shootouts, shielded by mobs clucking with anger around the armed forces, enraged at their presence between them and their sweetest wish — a paradise where they can join the Pakistanis in stoning anyone who’s not considered 'Muslim enough' to death.
It’s not the armed forces alone. Anyone and everyone — politicians, policemen, cultural figures, editors — who stands between the jihadi Kashmiri and their dream of a state of eternal violence, must be obliterated in this worldview. Anyone who represents the normalcy of civilised life must be killed. Anyone who embodies the normalcy of Indian life — including an Anil Parihar — with its daily rhythms of excitement and blandness, freedom and constraints, elections and governments, free media and blame — must be eliminated.
In a sense, there is a logic to this relationship of madness shared between Pakistani and Kashmiri jihadis. The 1980s onwards, as numerous experts recorded, Pakistan allowed itself to be steadily flooded by Afghan and other crazies, their one common bind being, they all claimed to be Islamo-Fascists. Why, you ask? Simply in order to strengthen its fighting forces in Kashmir. But, in the process, Pakistan, which once prided itself on being the land of poetry and whiskey, ghazals and kebabs, lehengas and languor and all the good things of life (to be enjoyed by Punjabi Generals and Sindhi feudals, with a bone thrown to the vassals) went mad itself.
It let itself be taken over by manic maulvis, limping maulanas, blind-in-one-eye mullahs and beady-eyed Hafiz Saeeds, whose big thrill is to kill, preferably with a stone or a club or something nice and heavy and medieval-ish.
Today, Pakistan faces yet another siege from its home-grown religious crazies. Some have found their way into Kashmir, where they shoot dead unarmed cops, soldiers returning home on Eid, journalists and politicians too.Anyone who is normal, basically.Anyone who represents the sanity, even the banality, of a normal life, bound by law, modernity, civilised norms.A life where you don’t dream of expressing yourself with a stone.
That is a life the rest of India will not let Kashmir slip into.Let Pakistan implode. We will not let Srinagar turn into another Kabul.Or indeed, another Lashkar-e-Lahore.
The Asia Bibi file is of course not closed yet . As yet, there is some confusion as to where she is . Still lodged in jail or flown out . Lots of rumours . If she is still in Pakiland, it is very doubtful that she will be released . Which proves that the Paki Supreme Court is a "paper tiger" . So called "prestige" of Saquib and Company will take a hit . Ditto for the Kaptaan. And it will reinforce Pakiland's uber - Islamic image in the world . FATF Black List will surely await . And Pakistan will likely join pariah nations club like NOKO and Iran . Imran needs to be get advice from Peerni's crystal ball on a pronto basis ( ASAP)

Another surrender

Image
Yet another govt has capitulated to violent religious extremists who neither believe in democracy, nor the Constitution.

AFTER three days of protests, destruction of property, closure of roads and highways and massive disruptions to the daily life of citizens, the government appears to have found a solution: agree to the protesters’ demands.

Seemingly already consigned to the dustbin of history is Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speech on Wednesday; yet another government has capitulated to violent religious extremists who neither believe in democracy, nor the Constitution.

Take a look: Khan’s finest hour

Perhaps the PTI government will argue that an agreement negotiated with the protest leaders does not make illegal concessions and the government has only pledged to let the law — and the appeals process — take its course.

But the law had already taken its course and an innocent woman was to be set free after a hellish, near-decade-long ordeal. It is the protesters against whom the law now needed to take its course.

Yet, the woman expressly declared innocent by the highest court in the land is to be kept in legal limbo, while the protest leaders have had to issue a half-hearted, one-line apology seemingly added as an afterthought to the agreement reportedly signed last night.

Perhaps Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government decided that, despite Mr Khan’s nationally televised address this week, a hands-off approach that allowed the protesters to vent their rage would allow the country to return to a semblance of normality quicker than a confrontational approach and potentially bloody clashes between the protesters and law enforcement. And perhaps the murder, possibly assassination, of Samiul Haq last evening caused some in the government to panic and recommend a swift end to the original protests before JUI-S supporters possibly took to the streets.

But what is already apparent is that the first-time governments of the PTI at the centre and in Punjab are struggling to coordinate, decide policy and implement decisions.

The days ahead will reveal whether the dysfunction and uncertainty at the heart of government are carrying the country deeper into the morass of extremist violence. Other institutions will also have to look at their own conduct in recent days.

Despite the shocking and unacceptable allegations made by the protest leaders against the military leadership and blatant calls for mutiny in the armed forces, the institution remained, at least publicly, on the sidelines.

Yesterday, when the DG ISPR at last addressed the ominous security situation in the country, he spoke in relatively soft words and urged the protesters to follow a lawful course.

Meanwhile, and in stark contrast to recent times, the superior judiciary appears to have decided that it would speak only through written judgements and took no suo motu action against those who called for the execution of superior court justices.

Pakistan, it would seem, was a country with no real leadership while chaos and anarchy spread in the streets once again. The repercussions could quickly manifest themselves in the days ahead.
