HAL has to move MK1A forward. Even if they manage 16 per year from 2019, they will complete FOC delivery in 1.25 year.. i.e 2020! And other 16 should be on production line when these deliveries happen!
The lines may go idle by end of 2019/ early 2020.. if MK1A is not ready.

Just above the tyre I spy a piece of equipment that looks like a specialist camera relegated to capturing the aircraft as it gets arrested.

Just below the tyre I spy the cable for hooking and getting arrested. The aircraft seems to have just gone over it.
Just thought I would add this.

3 production lines are fine but do they have another place to service the existing in-service Tejas fighters?

I don’t think there would be any major work on the Tejas that requires it to go back to the assembly line for repairs currently. It should be mostly 1st line and flight line work currently with the second line work for any major issues in the base engineering hangar.

Sulur is home to IAF No 5 BRD that would logically take up MRO of Tejas as it enters service. Presence of BRD one of the factors deciding basing at Sulur. The BRD folks are also building up their knowledge and skills.ramana wrote:IAF base repair depots.

Below link suggests Tejas ready for ALSR trials. The Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) version of the Tejas (16 fighters) already automatically limits many of the aircraft parameters. The only parameter not limited automatically (by FBW) is low speed of aircraft which pilot needs to monitor manually. For FOC versions, this parameter will be made part of automatic control/monitor.
The other feature to be tested is Disorientation Recovery Function (DRF).

This article is correct. Except that ALSR has already been cleared. In clean config it takes over at 100 knots. Wet refueling and small CEPs are correctly reported. Test pilots are currently pushing the 8G envelop. Have gone over a few times, safely. That limit might be revised upwards. SDR and Guns are not part of Mk1 FoC.If no new requirements arrive, Mk1 should recieve FOC by year end.

Wonderful. The mark of a 4th gen fighter, the ALSR and the Auto recovery mode is truly something very impressive from the perspective of making the jet fully carefree.Indranil wrote:This article is correct. And with the panic button to recover from any disorienting situation, it should make the jet that much safer for pilots, especially when flying in the dark and over featureless terrain. I remember seeing this feature for the first time in a documentary on the Super Hornet, a long long time ago. The test pilot was testing the panic button and it’s auto recovery feature which would bring the SH to a level attitude from any attitude. Made the jet near impossible to put into a spin and was claimed to have made the pilot’s lives that much safer since pilot disorientation was one of the number one causes of fighter jet.
crashes.
Perhaps in the future they will work on the GCAS - Ground Collision Avoidance System.

My understanding of the pic is SP-10 & SP-11 (completed aircrafts) on the right and SP-12 could be the first one on the left with the one behind it could be SP-14

HAL ramps up Tejas production
SP-12, SP-14 and SP-16 are with the LCA Tejas Division, SP-13 and SP-15 are with the second production line at the Aircraft Division.
The SP-12 fighter is ready to undergo a full performance EGR (engine ground run) signalling that it will be ready to kiss the skies for the first time in a week.
HAL officials say that SP-13 and SP-15 will be ready for maiden flights in December. The Aircraft Division will hand over these two fighters to the Tejas Division after conducting the HSTT (high-speed taxi trials).
HAL is awaiting a major milestone when L&T Aerospace delivers the wings of Tejas. This it says will be a major step in Make in India and its partnership with a private industry. The last fighter in the IOC series SP-16 will be the first to be integrated with the wings from L&T.
HAL says that the first FOC fighter (SP-21) will fly out by October, 2019. It is hopeful of creating a new benchmark by delivering 16 aircraft during 2019-20 fiscal.

Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A News & Discussions: 09 February 2018
Wonderful news. Things are moving slowly, but steadily. Looks like the full prod cycle for one LCA is 10 months. Hope they reduce it further.
Regarding getting plastered for under-performance driving changes in HAL, looks like plastering works. Fear of bad press seems to be the anecdote.
Just like fear of bad press resulted in a LCA with a wonderful safety record.
Hope there is progress on MK1A as well.

The article by writetake is a huge delight to read. Full of information, and to the point. No BS.
Rakesh, since you are maintaining the delivery list I think, can we please pick up some planned key dates from here and put in the first post of the thread under a separate head with something like " Planned future milestones"..? Would be a good reminder of dates. The forum keeps forgeting this all the time and we keep running into circles even with factual info. Would be good to have ready reference.
PS - This Diwali has brought quite a lot of good news from Desi Defense establishment. LCA, HTT40, couple of missile tests and so on.

Planned Future Milestones in 2018, 2019 and 2020
- SP-12 to SP-16 (five birds in all) are are all on the final equipping phase.
- SP-12, SP-14 and SP-16 are with the LCA Tejas Division (Line 1)
- SP-13 and SP-15 are with the second production line at the Aircraft Division (Line 2)
- As of 11 Nov 2018, SP-12 is ready to undergo a full performance EGR (engine ground run), with first flight in a week's time.
- SP-13 and SP-15 will be ready for maiden flights in December 2018.
- SP-16 will have its wings from a private manufacturer - Larsen & Tubro. (who is making the wings now?)
- 16 Tejas aircraft are to be delivered in 2019-20 fiscal year. (All FOC variants?)
- SP-21 (FOC variant) is expected to have a first flight in October 2019.
- The assembly of two sets of air fame have already started for SP-21 and SP-22.
- The parts for SP-23 and SP-24 will be up by the first week of December 2018.
Saar, can you elaborate more? What is DAL? Or did Anantha mean HAL?Kakarat wrote:https://twitter.com/writetake/status/10 ... 4422517760

Is 30 months the timeframe to deliver the four trainers? I doubt that.

Relocation to Sulur AFS is a fantastic move. Sulur offers clear skies and freedom from the congested Bangalore air space.

Rakesh Good idea.
When milestones are achieved just note next to the aircraft.
Dont edit with new date.
That way we have data on schedule performance.

Sir, Sorry to say but expected dates are from HAL.. and on previous occasions they didn't meet those promises.
So, lets wait for SP12 to make first flight.. just a week.

It is expected that the DAL(Drawing Applicability List) or the build-standard of eight trainers in the FOC version will be now be ready by February 2019 and the first plane will be likely available to IAF by September, 2021.
Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A News & Discussions: 09 February 2018
The time for fitting out the aircraft after the structure is ready has been discussed as anything from 3 months to 9 months. So, Flight of SP16 By March 2019 will be touch & go.
Does AAR continue to be a requirement of FOC or has it been shifted to MK1A?
How many IAF version 2 seater are flying? One or two? Is there any plans to fit AAR probe on it?
It seems production of ten FOC aircraft will be started (has started) without waiting for FOC and balance ten will be built after Formal FOC clearance. I think if FOC of single seater does not come by March 2019 then there will be Gap in production

The 1,000-plus workforce of LCA Tejas Division probably is aware that the future of HAL is currently hinged on to their performances. A plane not wanted by many till recently has suddenly become the hope for a company, its user and the nation.
The upgraded versions of Tejas set to fly out in the future will be a testimony to the belief that making is better than buying.
