Also, look for the names Kaitlan Collins and Jeff Zeleny in the near future as Acosta's replacements. I think Acosta has a waiting assignment in Darfur.

America's descent into total oligarchy has been stopped. For now
Heather Cox Richardson, Thu 8 Nov 2018.
American democracy just got some breathing room. Democrats took control of the House of Representatives on Tuesday night, where they can put a check on runaway Donald Trump and the compliant Republican Congress. Had this not happened, America’s descent into oligarchy was imminent.
But the election is only a stay. It is not the triumph of American democracy.
It could have been. Tuesday night’s blue wave was a popular tsunami. Despite voter suppression in states like Georgia, Democrats still won by 7.1% popular margin. Unfortunately, because of gerrymandering, by which Republicans have cut extreme districts that favor themselves, Democrats will pick up only 27 seats despite their popular strength. A majority of voters – by a large margin – rejects the Republican party, but the party has rigged the system to retain power. Republicans are unpopular enough, though, that voters have turned the House to the Democrats, who now control the House committees charged with oversight of President Trump and his administration. Democratic leaders have already said they will demand the tax returns that Trump has steadfastly refused to release. They will undoubtedly also launch investigations into the corruption scandals surrounding administration officials such as interior secretary Ryan Zinke and commerce secretary Wilbur Ross, and investigate the October 2017 attack in Niger which left four Americans dead (the same number killed at Benghazi, which prompted a Republican House to investigate for more than two years).
More than that, though, the Democratic House will stand up to Trump’s effort to undermine Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Russian interference in the 2016 election, and any crimes associated with that interference. Mueller has stayed in the shadows lately, likely waiting for the midterms to pass, but with them behind us, we expect to hear more from him very soon. The Mueller investigation has already netted guilty pleas from four of Trump’s top advisers, and Trump’s frantic tweets on the subject suggest that he is worried that he and his children will be connected to obstruction, collusion, and/or financial crimes. His wildly careening press conference the day after the election, followed by his abrupt firing of Jeff Sessions, suggests that he feels the walls closing in.
The loss of the House has made Trump desperate. He has been bolstering his cult-like base during the midterm campaign, egging it on with tales of a “caravan” of terrorists menacing the border, telling his supporters that Democrats are “arsonists” and “socialists” who cannot be trusted, and attacking the media, sowing lies and confusion at a frenetic pace.

So good to read that and read all the constructive things the House is going to do for America! For a moment there I thought they might have some intention to:
a) Straighten out the immigration mess where merit and legitimate business matters over lottery or illegal entry
b) Address the ballooning deficit
c) Improve education
d) Act to reduce Global Warming and sea level rise
e) Increase competition in the medical system by opening it to global participation, and actually **CUT** costs?
f) Reduce the tortures of air travel by dictating seats designed for bigger (Democrats)
g) Bring in Gun Control and ENFORCE it
h) Actually balance a budget
i) Foster innovation to raise wages by profit rather than government diktat
But no such dangers. They have **SAVED*** America!!!! We will get to see Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi on TV every day!!!

Re: Understanding the US - Again
Speaking of Voter Suppression:
Stacey Abrams ...(Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia) filed a lawsuit Sunday insisting that provisional ballots in heavily Democratic counties around Atlanta be counted before the 2018 election is officially certified...asks that the deadline to certify the election, set for Tuesday, be extended by one day. According to the Georgia Secretary of State, 21,190 provisional ballots were cast on November 6th — a number the Abrams campaign calls historic. “Each of these tens of thousands of ballots represents the voice of a Georgian voter, and now, those voices are at risk of not being heard,” the campaign says in its suit.
Provisional ballots are used when there’s a question about a voter’s eligibility — if his or her name can’t be found on the voter rolls, for instance. They’re particularly important in Georgia this year because, according to an investigation by journalist Greg Palast, Abrams’ opponent, Brian Kemp, improperly purged 340,000 Georgia voters from the rolls during his tenure as Georgia’s Secretary of State. (Palast’s discovery this year stemmed from an earlier story he wrote about the GOP’s nationwide effort to remove voters from the rolls for Rolling Stone in 2016.)
Kemp’s margin in the race now stands at less than 59,000 votes as votes continue to trickle in; if that lead continues to dwindle, it could fall below the threshold required to force a runoff or a recount. According to calculations by the Abrams campaign, they need 20,893 votes to trigger a runoff, 18,555 for the race to go to a recount.

She apparently mentioned the words "public hanging" and that is deemed "hurtful to One Community".

They are hurtful to millions of Mississippians who are people of goodwill and they're harmful because they tend to reinforce the stereotypes that held back our state for so long and that have cost us jobs and harmed our economy."

Well worth a read.America’s Struggle for Moral Coherence
The problem of how to reconcile irreconcilable values is what led to the Civil War. It hasn’t gone away.
My favorite line:
In Massachusetts in 1854, after a fugitive was violently arrested and sent back to his master in Virginia, one New England industrialist whose textile mills wove slave-grown cotton into cloth remarked, “We went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs & waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”

In the last session of Congress, the Republican House made House Resolution 1 their budget and reconciliation bill created to allow them to jam Obamacare repeal through the Senate on a simple majority vote. Which failed. In contrast, the incoming House Democrats have reserved that special designation, H.R. 1 for reclaiming our democratic republic, starting with establishing automatic voter registration and restoring the Voting Rights Act.
...
In addition to automatic voter registration, it would take redistricting power away from state legislatures in favor of independent commissions. It would include provisions to require more campaign finance disclosure and create a public financing match to encourage small contributions. It would close the loophole that exempts the president from the ban on conflicts of interest and require presidential candidates release their tax returns to public scrutiny.

CNN sues President Trump and top White House aides for barring Jim Acosta
I dont understand whats the point of CNN suing Trump. Trump can might as well say goodbye to any or all press conference. What will the press do then? Sue Trump again saying that he is not doing press conferences?
Seems like CNN is engaging in upmanship and wanting to spite Trump.

Megachurch pastor tells church to stop going to yoga, because of its 'demonic roots'

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A pastor of an Assemblies of God megachurch recently took aim at yoga, saying it has "demonic roots" and warning Christians to avoid the popular activity.
Pastor John Lindell told the attendees of James River Church in Ozark, Missouri — which has a congregation of about 10,500, according to a 2016 report — that the positions in yoga were "created with demonic intent to open you up to demonic power because Hinduism is demonic."
Members of nearby Springfield's yoga community are now speaking out.
A Christian yogi says his practice has brought him closer to God and wants others to know that it's possible to do sun salutations while following Christ. One owner of a yoga studio said she's worried that small local businesses are being hurt. An instructor, feeling on edge after a shooting at a Florida yoga studio Nov. 2, can't shake a fear that someone might take the church's anti-yoga message too far.
They are taking a stand against the sermon's message, which they say is "ignorant" and divisive, in a time when unity is needed.
"Yoga transcends religion," said Reggie Harris, who also said five years of yoga has transformed his life. "Yoga brings people together in a heart of unity and love. You're teaching people to hate something that may help them physically, emotionally, spiritually."
Sermon: Yoga as 'paranormal'
Lindell delivered a paranormal-themed sermon the Sunday before Halloween. Among other things, he warned congregants about the spiritual dangers of fortune-telling, Wicca, a form of paganism, and finally, yoga.

President (Unmentionable) announced during a Diwali ceremonial lighting ceremony at the White House Tuesday that he is nominating Neomi Rao to fill Justice (Even More Unmentionable's) seat on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.
"I won't say today that I just nominated Neomi to be on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, the seat of Justice (Even More Unmentionable)," Trump said, 24 hours before a planned announcement. "She's going to be fantastic -- great person."
Trump said the early announcement "gives me a big story."
"We were going to announce that tomorrow and I said you know, here we are Neomi -- we're never gonna do better than this -- I thought it was an appropriate place"
Is it coincidence that he nominates a wimmen university prof to The Seat vacated by the Unmentionable?Rao, who currently serves as administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, an agency within the White House Office of Management and Budget.. Rao is on leave of absence from George Mason University Scalia School of Law, where she is an associate law professor.
Asked to say something by Trump, Rao responded with "thank you very much, Mr. President, for the confidence you've shown in me. I greatly appreciate it."

This NRao bibi is a she. No idea of brfee nrao gender. But yes, Ginsburg replacement is possible: if RaoAmma has, say, 5 days experience as DC Appeals judge I guess she is more than qualified to be on SCOTUS! A prof to boot, so she can write erudite Opinions. Kavanaugh is barely literate: a political honcho who brings wacko notions that happen to fit the neocon narrative. But also a fairly productive gavel-wielder apparently. Hardly a Legal Luminary.
Thing is:
The new Judge is a Woman.
OF COLOR.
A University Prof.
Of Law
Also a White House staffer (that's pretty in ur face right there, to the donkeystanis)
Comes (I assume tenured) from the SCALIA school: if they go by the name, they must be one step right of Mussolini, per Barbara Boxer/ Kamala Harris standards.
From the very few words she uttered, sounds maybe ABCD rather than desh import, hain? But pretty neutral accent so may not be ABCD either.

thats a non-starter unless the H1 boom of 2000 occurs. he is the self-crowned king but where will he get his legions of troops from?
family based migration will also be increasingly clamped down. and indian PIO kids are marrying outside the circle in large numbers.
I figure the indian naturalized citizenship flow has reached "peak oil" and will taper down now. goras are not going to bring in unlimited numerical threats to their white collar dominance. india and cheen can flood the place if free movement is allowed.
the hispanics will continue to build numbers and kabilas in blue collar occupations and then strike hard for white collar in the next generation...theirs is a long term play of reclaiming what was anyway once theirs to rule - all the lands of the south and the mountains upto colorado. I would not expect any special sympathy from hispanic power brokers purely based on brown skin. their religion and cultural goals are very different, albeit they share some values in being devoted toward stable families. south-south bhaichara wont work.
in between all these giants fighting, I see agile, startup mode countries and peoples like tibetans, nepalese, bangladeshis using their quotas and concessions effectively and setting up shop in most unusual places. I would not be surprised to see nepalese running indian restaurants in northern hokkaido or the capitals of peru, equador and chile ... well off the map for indic routes.

4. Race-mixing
5. Pagan-Heathen
6. White House experience under DT-stan.
7. SDRE.
8. Real academic credentials in Law from U.Chicago review to tenured assoc. prof at George Mason. Not Yale Party Circuit.
Wow! That is one heck of an in-ur-face to the Boxer-Harris crowd!

True, Super record! The move to Judge is a bit surprising because the Wiki claim was that her appt to WHOTUS indicated seriousness to bring about administrative reform. I don't see how an Appeals Court judge can help in that, so it is a shift in emphasis/specialization? Following that line of thought leads to the SC where big admin changes will be contested, but time is short. OTOH, she has previously sailed through COTUS - which again points in the same direction. OK, I am done on this topic.

As far as I see, absolutely no difference.
He bisses on large nations with no hesitation,
and he befriends rulers of small ones with the amicability of a real estate salesman.
No sign that he is a bully as in being tough on small fry and cowardly before big ones.
Very consistent.
"MAGA" is his simple philosophy.
Plus NBD. Negotiate Better Deals.
He has no real friends, and understands that.
As for ally, neutral, opponents, he deals with everyone as bijnej.
Absolutely no real concern about hyooman rites etc.
But if I were an enemy of the Yoo Ess (say Eleven) I would bet fairly safely that DT will not actually go to war. After that first Niger(?) SNAFU, he has not done any really violent stunts. Held back from striking despite grave provocation from Thin Young One. And takes pride in keeping US out of war and solving problems without that. Says so too.

Doubtful. NR was always brandishing his illini pedigree. My guess is he's in Obama country... Illinois. Wonder where he's at though, he made some interesting contributions here....NRaoji, lurker mode mein Kya Kar rahey ho, aapki tareef sey brfites mohtaaj hai. Amantran tatha dawatekabil ho...Mort Walker wrote:UB,
OMG. Could this be our own NRao.
Recall there is at least one BRF member who advocates U.S.A. (United States of Andhra). Maybe his dream is coming true, so when Ginsburg drops off NRao can fill the position as a SCOTUS judge.

Quite interestingly, conservatives are mighty happy with her choice and are seeing her as Ginsburg replacement....from phox newj.UlanBatori wrote:AoA! Never heard of a Pharisee named Rao. So HerHonner's full naam is Naomi Jehangir Rao, hubby is Jewish name. The Diwali connection with obvious Yindoo Ameriki Phoundation ultra-nationalists grinning in the background, suggests a lot.
Let me sum up:
1. Wimmens
2. OF COLOR
3. Legal Immigrant/2nd gen from Legal Immigrants
4. Race-mixing
Re: Understanding the US - Again
I had some time to think over the 2018 election results.
Republicans kept the Senate and Democrats won the House.
Basically one can say that DT concentrated in Senate where there is power.
He can take solace from statistics that party which has the President has historically lost the Congress.
But that hides the fact that his earlier 2016 theme of focus on white male angst did not sustain his campaign.
We will see he needs to broaden his appeal. And if you think about it he has started immediately.
That brings us to Nancy Pelosi and her achievement.
She has created a non-Southern Democrat, Libera, women based coalition that dislodged the old Jimmy Carter/Bill Clinton machine.
This upends Democrat politics of 60 years.
Its now bi-coastal and supported by women:white and African American.
She managed to win even in Republican Orange county and Modesto displacing Jeff Denham.
Will this last till 2020 we don't know.
But if DT has excised the old country club Republicans and made it mainstream conservatives,
NP has excised the old Southern Democrats and changed the support base to more liberal.
In other words the splitting of the center is now complete.
Its clearly bi-modal and not Gaussian distribution.
A clear conservative vs liberal
No longer the centrist middle that was needed from World War II to end of Cold War.
So expect the differences to be sharper and combative.
