Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Pakistan vs Malaysia tomorrow. Who ever wins goes to next round aka quarterfinals.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Bakistan is out of Asia Cup! Good riddance otherwise like last time they took their clothes off and showed middle finger to our Audience.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
That's already over. They drew. The last two matches in Pool D are Ned vs TSP, Germany vs Malaysia. Currently they're ranked Ger, Ned, TSP, Mal. It'll probably stay that way. We are Pool C toppers right now, with Bel in #2, Canada #3 and SA #4 . Saturday we play Canada and Bel plays SA. We should finish #1 in pool, which means we play D2 vs C3 , which would probably be Netherlands vs Canada. Tricky, but the Dutch got beaten badly by Germany, after thrashing Malaysia themselves.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
India through to QF with a comfortable lead position in Pool C
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Pakis will always show their pakistaniyat.
Pakistan have alleged that the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) decision to hand a one-match suspension to defender Ammad Butt reeks of a conspiracy to weaken the team ahead of its crucial third and final Pool D match of the World Cup against the Netherlands. (Paki Logic -We are the best if we loose it is not because we are below average but because of a conspiracy).
On Thursday, Butt was charged with "breach of code of conduct (deliberate, reckless or careless physical contact between players in the course of play)" during the team's 1-1 draw with Malaysia the previous day.
Pakistan's team manager and legendary World Cup winner Hassan Sardar decided to appeal the decision announced by Christian Deckenbrock, the Technical Delegate for the tournament.
This decision is taken by the Dutch Technical Delegate. It's a do-or-die match for them (against us), so that is why this harsh decision was taken," Sardar said. But there seems to be a problem with that accusation. Deckenbrock is not Dutch, he is German. The FIH website confirms that. And so have other sources.

India plays winner of Netherlands vs Canada in the Hockey World Cup quarterfinal. Semifinal opponent Australia.
Great news about the fencing success. Commonwealth fencing championships has been a gora family club until Singapore made some inroads in 2014. 2018 results are here - total gora sweep except the women's sabre event we won.

India to play Netherlands on 13th in quarterfinals!
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
India lost 1-2 to Ned. Played well. It was close game. Much better than loosing tamely in previous WC. Sreejesh was the weakest link. Both here and in AG and CT. May be age is a factor. Probably they should look for a new goalie.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
No one in English MSM covered this match. I have to see Telugu news channel for the result. Pathetic response for the national sport.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
PV Sindu and Sameer Verma are in the SF of badminton Tour finals. Sindhu beat Tai Zhu.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Jinx indeed . She lost five finals this year - Thailand, India , World Championships, Commonwealth Games (to Saina) and Asian Games final . I hope now that she’s tasted victory at the highest stage she will win much more in 2019, with no more mental hurdles. She’s just 23 and has at least 3-5 years left in her .
Hard earned win - she beat all her nemesis players present - Tai Tzu Ying the world #1, Zhang, Yamaguchi, Intanon and then Okuhara .

Congratulations to Odisha for a beautifully organized Hockey World Cup! Very proud of what they have done; truly impressive by all standards! Great games, excellent commentary/coverage, lovely ceremonies, fantastic audience. It's amazing what can be done by our states/regions when they have pride and desire to excel.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Congrats to Belgium for their first title. Was supporting Netherlands, but glad to know we drew the eventual winners. We had tight matches against both finalists, drawing Bel 2-2 and losing 1-2 to Ned thanks to a late goal.
England made it all the way to semifinal only to get mauled twice - 0-6 by Belgium in semi and 1-8 by Oztralia in 3rd place game, which doesn't give them any credit for making it there.
We are better than them, and clearly we are top 5 team, but lacking the composure to make semifinals consistently at world level. Sreejesh gets consistently targeted at his weaker right side.

Focus should be on Olympic qualifications!! Coach Harendra Singh is much better than any of the foreign coaches.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
another predictable test defeat in 4th innings chase.
the age of amarnath, gavaskar, dravid and laxman are long over ....
the art of digging a deep foxhole and surviving enemy artillery is all but lost - worldwide in all teams.
almost every test has a result nowadays.
quality of both pace and spin is worse than 80s and 90s...but batters cannot even survive the reduced bowling attacks.
a west indian 4 man quartet like roberts, holding, marshall and ambrose would rip through todays next-gen lineups.

Shastri and Kohli made a big mistake by not including either Ravinder Jadeja or Kuldeep Yadav and opted for unexperienced Vihari! The australian spinner Lyon took 9 wickets.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
We have no openers, 3 good batsmen in the middle order and four number 11. On the other hand we have far stronger bowling . The result is a reflection of playing with 3 batsmen and 4 bowlers .
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
^^True its bad batting, but bad team selection too. we could have overhauled their score if Jadeja was playing and given far fewer runs in both the innings. Umesh Yadav leaks runs. What does our bowlers do when they are not in the playing 11. Can't they work on their batting? Their bowlers are better than ours in both the departments. We lost quite a few away matches due to poor team selection.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
This was the same story in England...Every time we were made to bat 4th Innings, we fold without a fight. There was no defiance or grit except maybe in the last test, where again it was only two batsmen who showed up while the rest went by the script. Losing is part of the game, but we would hope to see some kind of resistance. Nope..Kohli's team will win only if we bat first!..and to rub salt to wound, Kohli claims we were 'competitive'!...Competitive was Australia in the first test where they scared us until the final wicket.
Having said all this, I would be really happy if we can eke out one more test win.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
there has been a general downfall of the technique needed to play out multiple sessions as the old gods did. gavaskar or amarnath did not come to the crease to hit a sweet fast 45 and then hole out trying for 4.5rpo. he came to the crease in his white bush hat to face the best bowling attacks in the world man to man and play out 2-3 sessions until the ball and attack were both tired out. old gods like that are no more and we WORSHIP new fickle gods.
in any 4-5 test series we always have people dropping out after two tests with injuries. too many ODI/T20 leaves no off season to recover and go in with peak sustainable fitness. perhaps the goras also do more gym training and have a sturdier bone structure? I can understand a fast bowler facing injury niggles after 3 or 4 hard tests back to back, but even our spinners seem to get frequently injured

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
I do not think one more person would make a difference ie Jadeja as a do-everything allrounder isn't going to fix anything. Fundamentally, you cannot fix people not doing their jobs by adding more people. You add morepeople when the ones right now are all doing their jobs but requires more or a different skill set .
We have no openers. What's up with Vijay and Rahul ? Basically anonymous so far. Time for Shaw to take one of those spots. All batting is done by 3 people right now, and that is never going to work. We have 3 bowlers - Umesh wasted his opportunity in Perth by not bowling intelligently. We have a slightly better bowling attack than them, but are not being smart about playing to conditions. Why a finger spinner like Ashwin ? Why not a wrist spinner like Kuldeep ? Ashwin doesn't seem fit enough to maintain the intensity on a long hard day.
The next couple of tests are at venues that ought to favor us, but at the current rate, Lyon's going to keep outdoing our spinners. 1-1 going into 3rd test isn't bad. But this was an opportunity to go up 2-0 really badly wasted.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Rahul was selected based on hype about his 'talent' and a good IPL season. Absolutely not the criteria to select opening batsmen for test cricket. We also had some bad luck with Shaw and Pandya being injured, and Ashwin for the Perth match.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
They are trying too many IPL shots (sixes instead of playing on the ground)
When you punch the ball (IPL created it) there are more chances of edging. They need to play straight with soft hands covering the wickets
These are class test match shots.
1. cover drive
2. leg glance.
3. drive to mid on/off.
4. straight drive to long on/long off.
5. cut drive between point and slip.
that's all. Coach should be telling them to not to hit in the air and take guard on the leg stump and cover the wickets and play very late just like Gavaskar use to move his head by few inches to let the ball go.
We should try Shubman Gill as he is opener, only 19 years and very consistent with average of 49 in Ranji Trophy.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
^Exactly. The trick is to play classic test cricket till the bowlers tire, and then unleash shots when you are in a safe position and can take the game away from the opposition. This is what most great batsmen do, and the lesser batsmen fail at.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Rahul first was selected for tests based on his Ranji performances. In fact, he was not known for his short game and he almost went undrafted in IPL. IIRC, he was bought by RCB at the last minute at his base price and played in the 11 because of an injury to another player. He scored rapidly in that match and that was a turning point for him. He went on to do very well in that season.Bart S wrote:Rahul was selected based on hype about his 'talent' and a good IPL season. Among the three openers, Dhawan, Vijay and Rahul, Rahul had more success recently. I believe he should be given more chances since Vijay and Dhawan had an extended run. Kohli seems to hint he will be given an extended run. Anyway, we are running out of openers to try.
Prithvi Shaw is out of the series and a replacement opener, Mayank Agarwal is being sent. He will most likely be a failure if he gets a chance. I have seen him play in the IPL for the last several years and his limit was a quick 10 or 20. He rarely scored a half century. Hope he is a better test player.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Rahul and Vijay replaced by Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma.
Jadeja back in. Ashwin still not fit!
