Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
National Speech and Debate Association in the US is seeking new topics for PF (Public Forum) debate.
I am proposing the above mentioned topic as I want to change the rhetoric about US presence in Afghanistan.
I need some help to point me to some research articles
1) Give cost of 1993 WTC blast and cost of 9-11 to American economy
2) Articles on how many personnel US Army looses in normal training operations vs in Afghanistan.
3) Stats on cost of treating injured soldiers from Afghan front
4) Articles that prove Pakistan is fountain head of terrorism that wants to foment Jihad around the world and install Taliban in Afghanistan.
5) Articles that prove Pakistani malice towards US
6) Strategic advantages of controlling Afghanistan.
If folks could share this information on this thread I will use it for my submission.

You might be able to garner a lot of this information from Christine Fair's talk/books. You can check youtube also where she talks a lot about this issue.

JohB, Are you in high school speech and debate coach?
You will find many articles on those topics right from google.
Key in each as a search phrase.
Good luck.

Yes I am. I’ll do the googling and use Christine Fair’s writings.
Re: Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
Good luck to you. I was a parent judge in in speech and debate 15 years ago.
Those topics were very current and shaped national politics later.

Re: Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
It’s a good thing if they are really moving out , today Afghanistan is 1/3 government by Kabul the rest by Taliban.
17 year in Afghanistan don’t yeald much , all the surge thing by BO was just temporary gains all lost since then.
Too many body bags to count not just US but nato forces , it’s like bleeding by thousand cuts and talib have outlasted them.
US economy is shaping badly and can’t afford such deployment any long
Right decision on Afghanistan and Syria by DT

JohB:
The US has been in the wrong country for over 17 years, time to get out and deal with the real enemy:
We have a simple prescription for Peace in South Asia (and the world):
Give Peace a Chance. Destroy the Pakistan Army.
The US in Afghanistan is simply targets. Utterly wasteful loser thinking to demand that US troops be there for another second.
The US should instead be delivering weapons to Pakistan as it should have done on 9/12/2011. From 30,000 feet, or directly from ships and submarines.
It's time to tell the truth in America.

A lot of US army equipment may be abandoned or just given away in afghanistan.UlanBatori wrote:JohB:

India must bid for or get equipment like troop carriers and mine protected vehicles from the US. All these can be transported, via chabahar, to India.
the pakis will not allow the US to take their equipment out via karachi because the paki army wants all the equipment for free, for itself.

Re: Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
Anyway, I feel that johb's basic premise needs some revdirection. The US should stay in the are, but not in Afghanistan.
WHY should US stay in Afghanistan, shooting up the place and its people, when they are simply the victims of Pakistani terrorism, much more than Americans are?
Americans should rightfully leave poor Afghanistan, come over the border into Pakistan, and expend a few million uranium-tipped munitions in downtown Pindi and Islamagood. Clear the waterfront of Karachi, demolishing all the high-rises owned by the Generals who have been getting fat off the terror enterprise. Improve the parking situation in Islamagood and Murdike, as well as Karachi by creating new, glowing parking lots.
Clear the beach at Gwadar lagoon and turn it into a resort. Reduce population pressures in Pakjab and Sindh. Provide employment to the survivors, clearing debris at Karachi harbor and building roads across Balochistan.
Today there is absolutely no room for doubt that Pakistan is THE mischief-maker: why then is Debate in the USA focused on Afghanistan? Reminds me of the old poem that ends:

American foreign policy and military doctrine are laughably stupid, in continuing to kill Afghans to "solve" Pakistani terrorism. And when I died the neighbors came
And buried brother Abdul

IED B4 THE LOCK
US needs to send containers to Kranchi to ship abduls from Lawhore to Barbaria. Other than that, US does not need to be in that area at all. Oh may play demolition derby in Rawalpindi. But that is a different topic.

Re: Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
Who is funding the Taliban these days? Is it Pakistan or China directly, or China and the USA indirectly via aid provided to Pakistan?

Qui bono? Probably KSA via Pak, with Chinese Matching Grants for the worthy cause. Keeps US occupied: high payoff to cost ratio from their pov.

dishaji, best chance to advance The Peace Formula, seen in years. The Present Generation appears to be not caught up on the history and have forgotten The Formula.disha wrote:IB4TL

Ppl seem to have just ACCEPTED the truth that terroristan is behind the Afghan (and worldwide) terror enterprise, and just quit hoping for a real solution. 160 million and growing, what 2 do onlee? They ask.
Simple: Decapitate the Pak Army. The rest will See The Light. At least it's no worse than the present, with a heck of a lot better prospect for the future. Make the slum disintegrate into 6 mutually-loving fraternal neighbors in true paki tradition. Note that except for the border areas, I do not suggest American B.O.G. in Pakistan: merely High Altitude Weapons Aid Delivery (HAWAD).

To provide cannon fodder for the Talibs. However, the supreme commander of Yanqui forces, Failed Marital, Hair Chief Muscle and Admire-all from the Feet, Donald the Trumpeter, has decided that US troops are wasting their time in Afg. staring at burqa clad Afghani "wimmen".He needs them even more critically to keep out the Salvadorean invasion at the Mexica border, and to help build the Great Wall of Trump!

Re: Why US needs to stay in Afghanistan
Juicy contracts to be had! " Contract" killers have been in vogue for a couple of decades now in America's wars, and trillions spent with little to show for it. The war against " Terror", "Talib",
you name it, fundamentally against Islamic entities of diverse factions, appears never-ending- an Orwellian nightmare. For India the task remains not to get sucked into the Afghan quicksand which has consumed over centuries British, Russian, Yanqui, NATO and Paki soldiers. Our attempt to be a logistic provider to the Afghan govt. at times with Russian help is a wiser strategy rather than supplying more cannon fodder for that blood-soaked land.Defending J& K and our N-East from the Sino- Pak combine is our sacred duty.
With us taking over Chahbahar port ops , the thrust should be establishing the road-rail supply route via Iran asap and cementing the alternative trade route to Central Asia and Russia . Yanqui contractors are very welcome in Af-Pak, earning their $$$ and exterminating Islamic terror vermin ad nauseum.
