Folks need to wait for the fogs of action to clear ... rest are just rumors. India does not hide it losses and we will know at the end of the day.

The video in the article shows this clearly to be a Mi-17 helicopter and not a MIG fighter. The tail boom shows the letter 'Z', which is the designation used by the IAF on its helis. Mi-17s are marked as ZP-xxxx.

Saar, I think to use a SAM safely one has to shut down all civilian air traffic. Else they just go and hit the next biggest target/heat signature.
yes, civilian a/c do not have IFF to tell SAMs to skip. you could end up with the ukraine thing of a BUK hitting a commercial jet. to my limited knowledge there is no real busy transit airlane over J&K but there is over Punjab Rajasthan and any given time lots of jets overfly india without landing from fast east to gulf and europe.

Am hearing Pakistanis have shot down their own F-16. No Indian jet shot, no pilot captured.

Also, me thinks without any background knowledge but general gup-shup on the forum, that SAMs don't cover every inch of the border. More over being short range, unless they are deployed in overlapping circles of coverage all along the LOC there will be gaps.

Why would a Mig cross the LoC at a time like this? Even if the plane is headed towards Pak and gets shot down, the pilot would probably land on our side. The paki story stinks.

I have been in leadership positions during fast moving crisis (at a much small scale obviously) - trust me on this, right now PR is the LAST thing CCS/MOD is thinking about.

They will spend the next few hours coming up with a strategy and depending on that strategy they will decide what to say and what not to say.

So, it will likely take a few hours before anything *offical* comes out and that is a *good* thing.

I don’t think a MiG-21 was in the air anywhere near the border. These are ancient weapons of last resort, there are more than enough front-long fighters to deal with the Pakistanis.

Mi17 crash is near Srinagar and far from LoC. No way they were shot by F16 that intruded near LoC.

There are photos in Twitter that Rohitvats tweeted of smoke trail of missile near budgam crash site, which is fishy. Friendly fire or manpad from Jehadis or BVR kill from far off (impossible)? Need to wait

If Mi-17 crashed in our territory and none of our Migs have crashed, then which Indian pilot has been arrested by Pakistani's?

PS - TOI running ribbon says Paki pilot arrested and handed over to police.

The *trainers* rumored to be around 25-35 would have been TSPA/ISI regulars plus a lot of trained material was lost.

The fog of war. Contrary to reports thus far, all IAF pilots accounted for say some sources to me. A Pak F-16 has been lost on their side. Was it a case of friendly fire ? What happened to those pilots?

If the Pakistanis really have a pilot in custody - they will have his name, rank and and serial number.

Has any of that been released?

Pakis may have activated a sleeper cell to taken down MI17v5 with Stinger. Possibly a warning shot across our bow to tell us they have more such assets.

Lets wait to see why the Mi 17 crashed, Helicopter crashes do happen, IAF saying all pilots accounted for so DG ISPR continuing from yesterday is telling lies.

F-16 shoot down if confirmed is great news.

Gen. Bakshi is making very good point on times now about letting military do the briefings on military matters and not civilians like how foreign secretary did yesterday.

The biggest factor was the complete chaddi utaro.
1. The air strike was deemed too escalator between two nuke powers solidified by years of inaction. Completely demolished yesterdin. Air power was used and NO nuke *red lines* where triggered. That mental barrier has been broken and the bakis are enraged. There is no way to restore that except by throwing a nuke punch.
2. IAF went *deep* and returned unscathed! What if it has taken a detour to another target? What other target could it have hit yesterdin? The Aircraft is of the kind that is tasked to carry nuke. What if instead of regular bombs it has nuke payload and had chosen a different target? See how that plays on the baki minds?

Understandable.
