This is a 2000lb (1000kg) JDAM, a Spice 2000 would have had a similar explosion & do you think this will only blow off the roof or knockout a couple of trees?

This is the same kind of feeling I am havingHeres what I think>> Masood Azhar is DEAD... He was killed by IAF strikes... Pakis & @ImranKhanPTI are just spreading this nonsense to slowly announce a "natural death" for him out of some ailment... Kudos to @IAF_MCC @PMOIndia... @Timesnow @Republic ...
Re: Operation Balakot: News & Discussion
I agree with Chetak. We don’t have to give any proof of a military operation. However it is not illiterates that are looking for proof but the elite who would like to discredit Modi govt.
However if we need to criticize Modi govt, between the last strike and this one we went back to defensive mode. We need continue to be on the offensive and keep up the pressure.

Herons might have. We don't know. There was one report that said a Heron did battle damage assessment. But given the amount of disinformation the last 2 weeks, we can't be sure of anything.Mort Walker wrote:
Yes, but it is unlikely the Su-30s or Herons with their SAR package went to Balakot during or after the strike for confirmation.

Re: Operation Balakot: News & Discussion
A few observations:
1) Its a top-attack munition with pre-fed coordinates, imagery & other params like type of roof etc. The imagery from the top would've been supplied by our spy sats and fed into Spice for scene correlation matching. All this must've been done either long ago or in the days after Pulwama. I suspect its the former - i.e. the IAF already had targets pre-fed and ready to go.
2) I am pleasantly surprised by the level of sophistication. In our IT-vity land, we struggle pulling data from System A and pushing it into System B. Here we have Cartosat images fed into Spice!
3) Unkil must have given the silent nod. May have even known the coordinates. Spice uses GPS. So, if Unkil wanted, he could've shutdown GPS intermittently over Crapistan - but he didn't. This is all the more reason why we need IRNSS guided Garuda & Garuthma in 1000s at the earliest

Regarding speculation on teeter about of Masud Azhar being dead , there can be two possibilities:
1. He is actually dead in the airstrikes, and pakistan is trying to put out the news as natural death. This is good, well done IAF
2. He is not actually dead but pakistan is trying to take advantage of the heated situation to falsely portray him dead, so as to deny the Azar card to India which has been a headache to the tarrel than mountains fliend. It will be interesting to see what action GoI takes in this situation.

Spice's USP is it works in GPS denied space.Prem Kumar wrote:3) Unkil must have given the silent nod. May have even known the coordinates. Spice uses GPS. If at all unkil was informed, it was after the fact otherwise unkil would have shut off the GPS in the target area, alerting the pakis in advance.Karan M wrote:Spice's USP is it works in GPS denied space.Prem Kumar wrote:3) Unkil must have given the silent nod. Re: Operation Balakot: News & Discussion
Wrong, Spice's main USP is it circumvents use of GPS and possible jamming. The target image is fed into it, the bombs homes in on the target by matching the image fed to it and the actual target.Prem Kumar wrote:3) Unkil must have given the silent nod. I have a strong feeling that he is in "protective" custody and the paki army will finish him off allowing others to rise in his place.pralay wrote:Regarding speculation on teeter about of Masud Azhar being dead , there can be two possibilities:

Moreover conversely one can argue unkil assigned off on the sim and f-16s the next day, which didn't happen based on the US's reactionKaran M wrote:Spice's USP is it works in GPS denied space.Prem Kumar wrote:3) Unkil must have given the silent nod. This could also be a possibility since there is too much pressure on TSP based on him and is becoming more of a liability than an assert. After the bombing they could even disband JEM and start something new in its placechetak wrote:I have a strong feeling that he is in "protective" custody and the paki army will finish him off allowing others to rise in his place.pralay wrote:.

Not really ... The pic proof of damage is actually pic proof that it is undamaged!
Has been discussed here before. One can make out the problems by careful study of the damage picture. Looks like a construction time pic. Track the shadow.

No its post construction and before construction, a 2000lb bomb will leave a crater and not a blown roof. And its not the camp but some other buildingsudeepj wrote:Before and after pictures of Jaba top.. This appears to be the real deal and the photographic proof.

To add: The unbroken shadow is of good wall. Now presuming it is made of Brick what kind of a brick wall will survive a 2000 lb bomb dropped right in middle of a closed space! Impossible.
Folks are trying too hard to fit the facts to the narrative. Don't.

Interesting. Does it use INS? Scene matching can kick in when its close enough to the target, not when its launched.Karan M wrote:Spice's USP is it works in GPS denied space.
I guess, once its fed the GPS coordinates, it sets itself a guide path. It tries to take GPS coordinates mid-course. But if GPS is denied, it relies on INS to see if it deviates from the guide path and corrects itself.

After India conducted surgical strike in Myanmar , pakistan had thundered that nobody ought to do the same to al bakistan as it was an atom-i-taqat .
Few years down the line , India not only conducted surgical strike but also carried air strikes exploiting the so-virginity of al bakistan.
Now , I ask why is Bajwa not lamp posted till now for failing to protect the al baki honour , dignity and so-virginity .

The exchange has ensured that if required the statesman Dimran will decorate the nearest lamppost.
Why Pajwa? Did anyone think that Dimran was installed to take credit from TSPA and pass on the blame to Pajwa?

Stung by the loss of an F-16 to a Mig-21 the bakis are spinning a new yarn that a SU-MKI was shot down by an F-16 as a face saver.

Modi has to feed the public something to get over this election.
it was shocking that moon-moon singh was elected not once but twice after Vajpayee.
after coming back he has more cards to play that were not there a decade back.

Prem, Have you wondered why Israel developed SPICE with all that US help?
Because they didn't get the help!
Guys IAF has the imagery and said its up to govt to reveal.
The chatteratti wanted capability revealed.
Members here are feeding that frenzy.

The pa/paf has broken the protection contract of the jihadis
They were supposed to keep india off the jihadis
Expect jihadis to wage a few attacks on pa paf soon to bring them back in line and inform who is the real boss

Saudi FM who was expected to visit India on Sunday for diffusing tension has postponed his visit.

Reason is said to be disinterested attitude of Indian side.
News on China special envoy visiting India and Pakistan are mostly from Paki news websites or Bhadrakumar types.
Russia and Turkey have shown interest in mediation.
Surprisingly no news of uncle trying to diffuse.

To add to ramana ji's post above, IAF Mirages went for the strike with Litening targeting pods which would have provided real time feedback to the pilots for any correction if at all required. From earlier exercises it is well known how Litening targeting pods have helped deliver even dumb bombs as accurate as PGMs so ...

Re: Operation Balakot: News & Discussion
Looks like the entire top brass of JeM were at Balakot, to give a rousing speech to the new 107 recruits! Must be some sort of initiation ritual.
The intel was simply brilliant and so was the timing, choice of weapons and decoy tactics. Military & Intel agencies from around the world will be analyzing this with their jaw dropped.
Added later: we can expect JeM to train its guns on PA/PAF. Masood Azhar's brother repeatedly said (with a lot of burnol) that India attacked the Madarassa instead of ISI headquarters. Nice

I don't have such high hopes BUT if a large number of recruits and trainer went that is good enough.

Re: Operation Balakot: News & Discussion
In light of Balakot, I hope we expedite a lot more of the following:
1) Garuda & Garuthma: induct in the 100s, if not in the 1000s. GPS independence
2) Tejas-MK1 & MK1A: numbers!
3) Akash & MRSAM. Can't be relying completely on fighter scrambling to defend a massive border
4) More Netras in the sky for 24x7 operation
5) Rapid Astra induction to take down ingressing/egressing fighters
What Balakot demonstrated was that a good mix of high-end (Netra, Spice) and dal-chawal (Mig-21) systems can be deadly effective.
