Salam air flight OV258/OMS258 seems grounded at Multan.
OV258 landed in Multan about an hour ago after taking off from Lahore, it was initially diverted to Lahore.

I suspect the Indian objective is to bomb the shelters in order to negate the air-delivered nuke option as thats the only credible deterrent left with TSP, having ferried all the missile warheads to Barbaria. IAF alongwith IA is creating several false flag situations which is causing massive shalwar browning & green-on-green firing. A demo of Indian capabilities vis-a-vis hardened shelters was given by B'mos strike on Feb 26.

India should continue stress testing of Pakistan on all 3 dimensions. Scare the heck of their borders and then monitor the heck out of their Radar transmissions and aircraft movements and O/L. Any long term intelligence regarding their strategic locations can be very beneficial. And if we can suck up any and all radio transmissions a la kargil between KSA and Pak that would be the a clear bonus

the stanis are panicking, they haven't even bothered to properly link the air defence systems with whatever iff protocol they are using. Rather than chinese jf17 being shot down, my guess it is another f16 shot down by the chinese SAM which identified it as a foe.

PAF uses link 16 for f16 coms and a homegrown 'link 17' for jf17, j7 and mirage coms.

This is probably CT, but JF-17 and Chinese IFF may not be that capable, LY 80 may not be that good at IFF and shot down JF-17 which probably didn't have a good RWR, F-16 would probably on finding the lock by LY 80 would have turned and burned and been out of range of LY-80.

j-7PG and Mirages I doubt it has these even glass cockpit and communication equipment to use datalinks.

The best part, dare the Pakis to switch on the LY-80 system in Karachi which they were Brandishing on twitter on the night of 27-Feb.

Now that we know this weakness, we should make out Aircraft come soem 10KM from IB whenever civilian aircraft take off from Multan or come in to land, lets see what happens

Kargil was pre-youtube days. There is this famous video of IA returning TFTA bodies after many days (since the TFTAs didnt collect them). Even after that they had the temerity to declare "mujahideen" were in Kargil. I still remember TV and debates on outlook magazine if they were really soldiers.

Well Pakis have not come with some credible reason for the sudden closure of Multan airport and with Rape having heard explosions, Baba banaras tweet is true, then LY 80 cannot be switched on when PAF or civilian aircraft are operating. Great

May be that's actually what happened?
Fearing another strike by India, Pakistan deploys Chinese-made air defence system at LoC
As per reports, air defence missiles, deployed near the Indian border, include five LY-80 (HQ-16) surface-to-air missile units and IBIS-150 surveillance radar batteries that can track and destroy a variety of aerial targets at longer ranges flying at low and medium altitude.

Just thinking allowed if we keep our aircraft flying near the LOC, may become Cobras/ MI17's/ Transports/JF 17 of the PA or PAF will become further causualties of LY 80 IFF issue? will be nice if it happens

There was a PAF jet crash in Multan yesterday night. Not sure of the type or reason.

https://twitter.com/Farhananjum/status/ ... 9012000768

Some Paks saying caught fire while fueling, You don't need to close the runway for that.

We will be able to see where it crashed once GE is updated..

Flights to Multan airport resume after early morning suspension
MULTAN: All flights to the Multan International Airport resumed on Monday morning hours after their suspension owing to “operational reasons”.

Flight operations at the airport were suspended around 2:25am on Monday, a statement issued by the airport’s spokesperson said, explaining that the runway had to be shut down due to “operational reasons”.

All flights that were destined to land in Multan were diverted to Karachi and Lahore, the spokesperson said.

Operations were resumed at 8am, some 6.5 hours after they were suspended.

Recently, following the tensions between Pakistan and India, the Civil Aviation Authority had closed the country’s airspace for all flight operations in the end of February.

The suspension of, specially, the eastern airspace lasted for weeks at the airports of Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and D. G. Khan as CAA had said no flight would enter Pakistan from Indian airspace.

So that part about PAF fighter jet crashing is true and some mobile videos are there of it. Hope it was due to LY 80 IFF issue. Closing the airport is fine due to fighter jet crash, but why close the airspace around it? points more towards LY 80 malfunction

can anyone post video of the crash?

btw how did the SA3/SA6 missile fired by syrian AD unit at F16s hiding near russian elint plane target it. even if the f16 had been flying alongside it, the IFF still should have worked both being russian made weapons.

there was no reason to fire a LY80 large SAM unless something big intrusion was going on...perhaps the radar mistook a friendly fighter as a hostile and autofired. it has happened with nato also and in ODS, atleast one tornado was downed by a friendly SAM. another tornado managed to fire a ALARM ARM and sneak away.

Seen the video earlier. Shot from too far and grainy. Can't make any sense out of it. To an untrained eye, blinking lights possibly from rescue and fire trucks. No bird in sight, on fire or without.

it must have crash landed on or near the runway, hence the diversion of flights for few hours until everything was cleaned out.
need not be a full on crash, could be stuff like undercarriage collapse or overshooting into the side without fire....happens sometimes even to civilian airliners.

Agree. Misleading, dishonest and veiled. And yeah, I think the comment was directed at article and not you.

PS: If I were you, would always try linking the real source, rather aggregator. IDRW is the latter.

hypothesis: missile exploded near bandar, which was damaged. pilot tried to recover to multan, but crashed on landing...?

i also wonder if IFF systems have some limitations

1. switched off to provide anonymity/cover - i.e. no emissions to be detected (e.g. during penetration of enemy airspace)
2. loss of signal/obscuration under specific conditions (e.g. electromagnetic interference in the atmosphere)

or of course there is the possibility that the microscopic yak dung particles in the skies over pakistan created an em spectrum anomaly which the bandar flew in to...

fun facts about multan
a. Holi originates in a temple in Multan
b. Alex the Macedonian Bandit was speared in the gut whilst storming the battlements of Multan by a saffron bandit. Alex never recovered from this wound

From the article
"The aircraft which engaged those targets and fought them were JF-17. As regard to how to use F-16, in what context [they] were used or not — because at that point of time our entire Air Force was airborne — now it remains between Pakistan and the US to see how the MoUs regarding the use of F-16 have been adhered to or otherwise," Ghafoor said.
Hmmm so entire PAF was airborne for 1 sortie,

Targets were engaged by JF-17 but F-16 was airborne and used or not. Slowly climbign down from no F-16's used that day.
