They have GPS / differential GPS guidance down to a couple of meters resolution I am sure: they usually hit (and true in this case) in darkness against places that have a wartime blackout in force, don't they? What optical camera works in that?

Yes, they may have an optical camera for stunts like going down city streets etc. But you certainly cannot depend on that because of the above.

Besides, do u think a smokescreen would have saved Baghdad in 1991? That part of the article is pure Berkeley-Stanford, as is (probably) any account of what went on in the Situation Room. And, by extension, the juxtaposition of the ISIS netas' jirga who just happened to be sitting on tops of barrels of chlorine, so that 92 civilians died around them. All too convenient.

And.. note that they omitted the fact that the "retaliatory raid" did hit this one building where the SAA had been developing counter-ATGM measures, that are what won 70% of the ground war.

Yes I am aware of the GPS thing if they use GPS guidance then nothing can stop it short of some distortion in GPS.

I was mearly pointing to the fact the DSCM mechanism relies on optical guidance and Tomahawk have a high failure rate even during GW , Even during Syrian Air field attack only 23 out of 59 Tomahawk missiles could reach but this can be debatable depending on who you ask

US, EU Will Try to Get Away With Bombing Syria Over False Evidence - Russian MoD

https://sputniknews.com/world/201902151 ... al-attack/
"Over the past few years, the Russian Defence Ministry has repeatedly stressed that sooner or later, the truth about these fabrications of Western countries would make its way to the light. And many current high-level policymakers in the United States and Europe, who then called for the 'protection of peaceful Syrians from the regime's terrible chemical attacks' and authorised missile and air strikes on Syria, will try to 'forget' this issue to avoid moral, political and criminal responsibility", Konashenkov said in a statement.

Speaking about the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), he said that granting a mandate to attribute responsibility for chemical weapons attacks in Syria to the OPCW allows western states to attack any country undesirable for them on the basis of fabricated evidence.

"This particularly concerns the vote, pushed through in June 2018 by the manipulations of Washington, London and other Western capitals, on granting the so-called attribution, meaning ‘prosecution,' functions to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Due to this decision, on the basis of deceitful videos of another nursed ‘White Helmets' about chemical attacks threat, western capitals will be able to carry out missile strikes against any state undesirable for them without any authorization by the UN Security Council — meaning, depending on their mood," Konashenkov pointed out.

These Chutiyas Russian beleieve that EU or US will care if the evidence proves that White Helmet staged chemical attack even if now BBC Producer says so.

This is a War either you fight it out or just Chicken out. No one frekin care about any evidence truth or other wise

and likely these White Helmet are part of West/Saudi intel organisation , The fact they only operate at places under terrorist control is good enough evidence

US military accused of stealing 50 tons of gold form Syria
The U.S. Army is transferring tons of gold from Daesh-held areas in Syria to the U.S., multiple reports said.

According to a source who spoke to Kurdish Bas News Agency, the U.S. forces transferred about 50 tons of gold from areas seized from Daesh terrorists in eastern Syria’s Deir el-Zour region and gave a portion of the remaining gold to the PKK’s Syrian offshoot People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The gold was reportedly transported from the U.S. military base in Kobani.

Meanwhile, 40 tons of gold bullions stolen by Daesh terrorists from Iraq’s Mosul province was also taken by the U.S. forces.

resident Donald Trump has overturned decades of US policy by saying it is time to recognise Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, which it captured from Syria in 1967.

In a tweet, Mr Trump declared that the plateau was of "critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and regional stability".

Israel annexed the Golan in 1981 in a move not recognised internationally.

Syria, which has sought to regain the region, has so far made no comments.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - who has warned about the "military entrenchment" of his country's arch-enemy Iran in Syria and has ordered air strikes in an attempt to thwart it - tweeted his thanks to Mr Trump.

"At a time when Iran seeks to use Syria as a platform to destroy Israel, President Trump boldly recognises Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights," he wrote.
A move capable of ensuring peace for decades to come, the orange one is to be appreciated.

Russian MoD: French, Belgian Intel Officers Plan Chemical ‘Provocation’ in Idlib

https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/2019 ... ovocation/
Belgian and French intelligence officers have arrived in Syria’s Idlib to stage provocations with the use of chemical substances, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Syrian Reconciliation said on Friday.

"To organize provocations, representatives of the French and Belgian secret services arrived in Idlib. Under their supervision, a meeting was held with the field commanders of the terrorist groups of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and Hurras Al-Din, as well as with the representatives of the pseudo-humanitarian organization ‘White helmets’", Maj. Gen. Viktor Kupchishin said at a news briefing.

At the meeting, the attendees discussed organization of staged film shoots, which would falsely depict Russia and Syria using chemical agents against civilians, according to the center.

"For participation in filming of scenes depicting the effects of the use of poisonous substances, payments were set at $100 per person. At the same time, it is possible that organizers used real toxic substances in order to achieve ‘authenticity’ of photo and video materials", Kupchishin underlined, adding that refugees and families held by the terrorist groups could have been forced to take part in the staged shoots.

At the same time, the Belgian special services have been filming the strikes of the Russian Aerospace Forces at the arms depots of terrorists in order to use that footage in accusing Russia of using of chemical weapons, according to the center’s head.

"From 14 March to 27 March 2019, the representatives of the Belgian secret services recorded strikes on video, which the Russian Aerospace Forces targeted at terror groups' arms depots and footholds of drones on the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone, in order to subsequently present them as an ‘evidence’ of the use of chemical weapons", Kupchishin stressed.

One Rocket provoked the US Withdrawal: details of the Kurdish-Russian-Syrian Deal

Last Friday a 155 mm artillery shell landed 300 metres from a US command post near the Syrian bordering city of Ayn al-Arab (known by the Syrian Kurds as “Kobane”) during an ongoing operation carried out by Turkey – a NATO and a US ally. This operation aimed to dislodge, at a distance of 30-35 kilometres from the border, the US-backed Kurdish militants known as the YPG, the Syrian branch of the US-EU-NATO designated terrorist group, the “Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The Turkish troops backed by Syrian proxies had rapidly advanced in the first week of the military operation into US-occupied Syrian territory, cutting the main roads and attempting to isolate their enemies.

These two swift events were enough to ring the alarm bells and straightaway pushed the US administration to announce, via the Secretary of Defence Mark Esper, the withdrawal of approximately 1,000 US troops from north-east Syria (NES). The killing of any US soldier in Syria would effectively have been a nail in the coffin of the US President Donald Trump’s electoral campaign in 2020. France and Britain, who maintain Special Forces in NES, will follow the US forces out of Syria.

The Syrian forces were given orders to deploy in NES following a deal between Russia and Turkey, and between Russia and the Syrian officials, to guarantee the safety of the separatist Syrian Kurds.

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad agreed to guarantee the safety of the Kurds as long as these become part of the National Security Forces. No other conditions were put forward by the Kurds, who have lost momentum with the sudden US withdrawal. Damascus promised there will be no revenge or resentment measures towards the Kurds who have, for years, acted as human shields to protect the US occupation forces which remained in Syria notwithstanding the defeat of ISIS.

The Russian-Kurdish deal consists of the deployment of the Syrian army on all borders with Turkey and the return of all sources of energy (gas and oil) to the Syrian government-controlled forces. These sources of energy are vital to the Syrian government, which has been suffering under heavy US-EU sanctions. Any delivery of oil was blocked, except the crude oil from Iran, whose supertanker managed to breach the siege.

The initial agreement between the Kurds and Damascus (via Russia) consists in the ending of the self-administration of NES, the integration of the Syrian Kurds under the command of the Syrian Army, and the pursuit and destruction of all ISIS forces.

A US withdrawal from the al-Tanaf border crossing between Iraq and Syria is also expected when a solution is found for the 64,000 refugees at the Rukhba camp.

All motivation and benefits offered to the US to maintain occupation forces in Syria have ceased: the “Iranian danger” is no longer on the table following the re-opening of al-Qaem border crossing. Therefore, to maintain US forces on the borders when no more “adverse” forces will remain in the country will needlessly cost Trump more money and engage responsibility uselessly.

Clearly the motive to keep US forces in Syria until a new constitution is agreed no longer interests or concerns the US. Trump is leaving this problem to Russia and Turkey to sort out (with the support of Iran!) with President Assad.

Imposing sanctions on Syria is meaningless now and preventing the Arabs’ rapprochement no longer holds any justification. All Arab countries – with the exception of Qatar – expressed solidarity with President Assad and condemned the Turkish invasion. The return of the Arabs will construct a robust base for the reconstruction of Syria. The Syrian market is attractive to Arab countries, and this commercial contact will bring also their influence back to the Levant. President Assad doesn’t mind closing the pages of war and starting a new and positive relationship with the Middle Eastern countries, and he will allow these to enjoy some influence, as was the case before 2011.

Sanctions on Iran have lost their meaning and purpose when al-Tanaf regains its activity, with al-Qaem. Iranian goods will find their way into the Syrian market and vice versa. The Tehran-Baghdad-Damascus-Lebanon road is expected to regain strength and significance.

Trump announced his withdrawal without informing his allies. The US-EU partnership on the ground has fallen apart. US credibility is at its lowest level following its attitude towards the Kurds who had defended the Trump forces in exchange for a State, “Rojava”.

The US sanctions on Turkey were simple words without foundation. Trump threatened to impose sanctions on Turkey if it crossed the red line, beyond 35 kilometres- only to call for a total withdrawal two days later.

The US elite’s attempt to demonise Russia has fallen apart: Moscow is the saviour of the Kurds, betrayed by the US. The supporters of the Kurds were fanatically supporting the Kurds and asking to avoid their extermination by Turkey: now they can no longer turn their guns and pens against Russia. Here comes Russia, with Assad moving in to save them.

The Kremlin is gaining ground in the Middle East, perfecting its diplomacy in a very complicated area of the world: the US is running away from it. Moscow took in its arms these same Kurds who had chosen to stay for years in US arms. President Vladimir Putin has skilfully managed to establish a good relationship with both Iran and Saudi Arabia, with Assad and Israel, with Hezbollah, and with the Syrian rebels: even with Turkey.

There are many winners in Syria today, and these include Trump- who is running away to avoid human casualties (as he promised in his campaign). The Kurds are the only real losers as they have lost 11,000 people for a State they only dreamt would materialise one day. Although they bet disastrously on the wrong (American) horse, in the end, they saved their lives by switching mentors.

net net situation so far :

here are the areas confirmed that the SAA and the Syrian Government have taken full control

1)Repeat again, all Manbij pocket is now in total control of the SAA, all of it.

2) Key cities under total control by the Syrian Gov.
al Hasaka
Al Qamishli
Manbij
Raqqa
Tabqa
Ayn Issa
Tell Tamr
Ayn al Arab
Ras al Ayn – fighting is on here but the SAA came to calm down the situation.

3) Key sites
Qarah Qawzaq bridge – the only bridge left over the Euphrates.
Tishrim Dam
Tabqa Dam
Tabqa Airbase – to be operation in 2 weeks max, work is on it already today.
Brigade 93
Division 17

There are over 40,000 SAA soldiers being sent to all corners of North, NE and Easter Syria, have seen videos of SAA forces going one direction and the US forces going the other direction, hilarious indeed to see it happening.

The oil and gas fields will have a group of SAA to defend each one of them, and SAA soldiers are already on the way, these are top priority for the Syrian Gov.

There is already effort within the Syrian Gov to evaluate all oil and gas pipelines to see how quickly they can be used to pump oil and gas to the coast, this is urgent and critical due to the up coming winter approaching, last winter Syrians suffered terribly due to the criminal sanctions on the ordinary people.

There is a NFZ in northern Syria, mostly Manbij pocket, and all northern Raqqa all the way to Qamishili. RuAF and SAAF have put over 30 jets to stay 24×7 on the skies there.

Last but not least, in every place the SAA arrived in northern and NE Syria so far, the ordinary people flocked to embrace the SAA, they know who they can trust, it shows how strong was the support to the Syrian Gov and the only army that can protect all Syrians.

Very important to mention that the liberation of Idlib and western Aleppo is coming, the RuAF, SAAF and SAA artilleries are pounding hard the turkish backed terrorists for 2 days, non stop, Arbeen mountain has been single handed this time, massive bombing on Ariha and areas nearby it.

The deadline for the turlish backed terrorists to exit M5 was due yesterday, so it is fair game now for the SAA. With the recent collapse of reputation and other things, Turkey is no position to offer any possible defense to its terrorists in Idlib, they will be eradicated from Syria or they will flee to Turkey then Europe/Central Asia, this is going to happen, have no doubt about that.

The newly named 25th SOF Division (Tiger Forces) has moved north, place is not disclosed yet, it could be related to the liberation of Afrin then downwards to Bab al Hawa border crossing then all western Aleppo, we will hear more about this subject in few days time.

Can you imagine any other outcome.

Donald T can now sell the turks his patriots because the Russians are enforcing no fly zone. Turkey back with tail tucked into nato camp. Without air power turkish army do not have the muscle to defeat the battle hardened triumvirate of SAA, IRGC, hezb, russian irregulars & spec ops.

Iran sanctions will become meaningless once manbij and hasakah are subdued. That is what the fledgeling US force out there is attempting half-heartedly to prevent.

Classic pic if not doctored.

Syrian Army retreats as US advances. Oh wait! Its the other way round. US returns from Kobane Mall as Syrians head there for Tuesday Sale. RT.com does have imaginative writers:
shows a US military convoy of several armored vehicles leaving the border town of Kobani. A Syrian military unit, transported on apparently less fancy vehicles, is seen heading towards the town.
An unlikely road meeting of US and Syrian troops was captured in northern Syria as the American vehicles were retreating from the Kurdish-held town of Kobani, while the Syrians rushed to protect it from the Turkish-led offensive.

Getting American and Syrian government forces into a single image is quite a difficult task despite the protracted – and illegal – US military presence in the war-torn country. Nonetheless, RT’s video agency Ruptly managed to snap a rare shot at a highway between northern Syrian towns of Tabaqqa and Kobani.

RT rubs it in..
Westerners who propped up Islamist ‘moderate rebels’ suddenly realize they're terrorists as they launch ‘genocide’ of Kurds.

An absolutely fascinating phenomenon accompanying the Turkish invasion of Syria has been watching the reaction of western journalists who once shilled for ‘moderate rebels’ now falling into the trap of having to condemn them.

Spearheading the Turkish invasion are the very “Free Syrian Army” and other “moderate” militants that the mainstream Western outlets have promoted for years as the victims of “genocidal monster” Bashar Assad in Damascus. Now, however, the “rebels” are baddies and Assad is the savior – at least when it comes to the Kurds the media have been lamenting as allies “betrayed” by US President Donald Trump. What a headache!

“When Turkish forces fight the Kurds the media calls them genocidal maniacs and ISIS-helpers,”tweeted scholar Max Abrahms. “When Turkish forces fight [Syrian President Bashar] Assad the media calls them rebels and revolutionaries.”

Outlets like the Washington Post are now describing as “crazy and not reliable” the very same militants they defended as “moderate rebels” just months earlier, journalist Aaron Mate pointed out. “There are surely proxy war apologists who previously cheered on FSA now pained by their atrocities against Syrian Kurds,” Mate tweeted, noting that they shouldn’t be taken seriously unless they apologize to those they smeared as “Assadists” for being right all along.

While no apologies have been forthcoming, there has been plenty of hand-wringing by western journalists. Here is Danny Gold of PBS Newshour, bemoaning the discovery that the anti-government fighter he once “embedded with” (while working for Vice) is now taking part in Turkey’s invasion of northern Syria:

Reading the mainstream Western press this week, one would think they are the real victims of last week’s developments – not the Syrian Kurds whose fate they are lamenting – as the narrative they have crafted and maintained since 2011 is falling apart. Not only has the Turkish invasion exposed the true nature of “moderate rebels,” it has also served as a pretext for a general US withdrawal from Syria, and a deal between the Kurds and the Syrian government that Washington has spent years blocking.

The very same journalists who’ve spent years demonizing Assad as a genocidal war criminal and a week accusing Trump of abandoning the Kurds to Turkish “genocide” are now struggling to cope with the Syrian Arab Army stepping in to defend the Kurds from Turkey.

Needless to say, the process is not going too well.

“Trump has driven the Kurds into Russia's arms,” tweeted Edward Luce, chief US columnist for Financial Times, describing the Syrian development as a disaster of global proportions, an unraveling of the world order that only benefits the Kremlin.

“I don't know whether it's too late to retrieve the benign image America had in most of the world. But the light is failing,” Luce said in a thread on Monday.

Journalist Max Blumenthal described Luce’s thread as “panic over an empire's waning,” which is fitting for such melodrama. Notice that there is little or no concern for the well-being of Syrians, who have suffered for over eight years of proxy warfare and IS terror – or even the Kurds themselves, who were the original recipients of all the hand-wringing up to the moment they made a deal with Damascus.

It’s hard to admit being wrong, which is why most journalists never do it. Much easier to blame Russia, like they’ve been doing ever since the 2016 US presidential election and the Brexit referendum revealed how horribly out of touch they’ve been with their own societies. What Syria has shown is the extent to which this is true for international coverage as well. Don’t look for them to apologize, however – they’re the real victims in all this, don’t you know?

RT.com:
The Syrian Arab Army has established full control over the city of Manbij and nearby settlements, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

Russian military police continue to patrol the northwestern borders of Manbij District along the line of engagement of the Syrian and Turkish armed forces, TASS reported. “Cooperation with the Turkish side” has also been established, according to the statement.

Manbij, which is located some 85km east of Aleppo, was liberated by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units in August 2016. The city had earlier been an outpost for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).

On October 9, Turkey launched a new military campaign in northern Syria dubbed ‘Operation Peace Spring.’

With all that is happening on Syria, this thread should not have had to be forcibly bumped back up to the top. This thread was forgotten because we have way too many threads covering the same stuff (Turkey thread, Iran thread, Saudi thread, W. Asia thread, etc). Nobody knows where to post things, and we all end up monitoring a bunch of different threads to get the same news.

Syria heats back up. Where to post? Turkey thread? Iran thread? W. Asia thread? Resurrect old Levant thread? You guys see the problem? This forum suffers from thread fatigue! :)

Seriously can't we clean this mess up?

I vote for a unified "Middle East" thread!

Re: Levant crisis - III

I don't know about the "while SAA looked on" bit. They had not arrived yet, and per reports, US forces who had not been clued in, were desperately holding the bridges across the U-fritis to keep them from genociding the gentle child-beheading secessionists living in Manbij and Kobane. And USAF was reported striking "pro-SAA" positions. All in all, a classic Western bar brawl between drunks. Armed with ATGMs and artillery. It does look like US forces are pulling out, and bissfully passing SAA coming in.

May be true that it was "pro-Turkey" Flee Sillian Almy (who have been merrily genociding in Kobane) that fired at the US forces. I think they have become fair game for RuAF as well as USAF. In this whole tamasha I think it is the FSA that is going to be eradicated.

RT.com films inside former US base
An RT Arabic crew peeked inside the US compound in Syria’s Manbij, abandoned by the Americans just a few hours previously. Footage from the scene suggests the US troops were in a hurry, leaving behind hardware and personal items.

The troops pulled out of the base, located southwest of the northern city of Manbij, overnight and into Tuesday. The retreat follows the decision by the US President Donald Trump to withdraw American personnel in the face of the Turkish operation against Kurdish-led militias.

Just as the US troops withdrew, the Syrian Arab Army rushed to fill in the void they’d left. War correspondents followed, catching a rare insight into the secretive fortified compounds. The RT Arabic crew was among the first to get into the base, hidden inside thick gabion wall. Footage from the scene shows all its structures had been left in place, including personnel tents and huts.

The troops have, apparently, been leaving in a rush – furniture, personal belongings and even an unfinished supper can be seen left behind. More sensitive equipment, however, appears to have been dismantled. He even played around with an anti-SVBIED (Suicide Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device) barrier at the base’s entrance. The mechanism turned out to be fully operational, as the retreating troops apparently did not have enough time to dismantle or destroy it.
Suggests a rather hurried exit, hain? I wonder exactly why. Commanders disgusted at orders? Reports that window was closing as Turks/ moderate child beheader FSA came close?

BTW, I tried searching for the Twitter feed of I. Sidorenko, one of Singhaji's prime sources. Turns out he was banned by Twitter or something (not surprised, he was doing a super job exposing the Deep State MSM garbage and giving a professional account of the war in Syria), about a year back, and now one has to go subscribe to his feed - which requires a Twitter account. Rules out us yak-herders.

Tulsiji gives it to May Butt-e-gig

A
fter Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a major in the Army National Guard, called for an end to the regime-change war in Syria, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a Navy intelligence officer, responded, "Respectfully, congresswoman, I think that is dead wrong. The slaughter going on in Syria is not a consequence of American presence, it’s a consequence of a withdrawal and a betrayal by this president of American allies and American values."

"I think we need to get out of Afghanistan, but it's also the case that a small number of specialized, special operations forces and intelligence capabilities were the only thing that stood between that part of Syria and what we're seeing now, which is the beginning of a genocide and the resurgence of ISIS," he continued.
But Gabbard immediately disagreed, arguing, "So really, what you're saying, mayor Pete, is that you would continue to support having U.S. Troops in Syria for an indefinite period of time, to continue this regime-change war that has caused so many refugees to flee Syria, that you would continue to have our country involved in a war that has undermined our national security, you would continue this policy of the U.S. actually providing arms in support to terrorist groups in Syria...because they are the ones who have been the ground force in this regime-change war."
But Buttigieg fa*ted, "What we were doing in Syria was keeping our word ... I would have a hard time, today, looking an Afghan civilian or soldier in the eye after what just happened over there, and it is undermining the honor of our soldiers. You take away the honor of our soldiers, you might as well go after their body armor next."
9:12 p.m.: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard attacks the mainstream media

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard called out debate hosts CNN and the New York Times on claims that they "smeared veterans."

"Donald Trump has the blood of the Kurds on his hand, but so do many of the politicians in our country from both parties who have supported this ongoing regime-change war in Syria that started in 2011, along with many in the mainstream media, who have been championing and cheerleading this regime-change war," Gabbard said.

"Not only that but, "New York Times" and CNN have also smeared veterans like myself for calling for an end to this regime-change war. Just two days ago, the "New York Times" put out an article saying that I'm a Russian asset and an Assad apologist and all these different smears. This morning, a CNN commentator said on national television that I'm an asset of Russia."

The congresswoman then asked Sen. Elizabeth Warren to join her calls to for an end to this regime-change war in Syria.

"I think we ought to get out of the Middle East," Warren fa*ted. "I don't think we should have troops in the Middle East, but we have to do it the right way, the smart way. What this president has done is that he has sucked up to dictators, he has made impulsive decisions that often his own team doesn't understand."

SAA convoy waiting for fleedom force to pass as per that pic. It was a very hurried retreat by US ground troops so all sorts of funny images were captured.
