I believe they have a partnership with Thales to promote SMART-L radar. Is it confirmed that these will be based on it?

The articles mentioned a partnership with Indra (Spain) so this is probably one of their legacy L band phased array products.

Some things to keep a watch on for Rakshaks. The new DA to the Cheen embassy is purported to be cyber warfare specialist and this(appointment) could signal the emphasis placed by the Party on Cyber espionage in Bharat Varsha.

China Establishing Businesses Near Indian Navy Bases to Keep an Eye on Them, Says Intelligence Report
https://www.india.com/news/world/china- ... 13051/amp/

-Manish Shukla
China is engaged in espionage of the sensitive bases of the military establishment, said an intelligence report.

According to the report, China is trying to spy on Indian Naval bases specifically INS Kadamba in Karnataka and APJ Kalam Island on Odisha coast, also known as Wheeler Island. For this purpose, a Chinese business delegation had visited the Betul Island near INS Kadamba to set up business activities nearby so they could also monitor the activities of the Indian Navy.

Wheeler Island is India's Integrated Missile Test Range Facility of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) while Abdul Kalam Island is the missile test facility for most missiles of India: Akash Missiles, Agni Missiles, Astra Missile, BrahMos, Nirbhay, Prahaar Missile, Prithvi Missiles, Shaurya Missile, Advanced Air Defence (AAD), and Prithvi Air Defence.

In such a situation, the presence of Chinese people at Wheeler Island can be dangerous for the security of the country. Similarly, INS Kadamba is the key base of the Indian Navy and India's two aircraft carriers are always present in Karwar. This base is so important that India monitors China and Pakistan in the Arabian Sea through it.

"China is establishing a foothold in strategic areas. Chinese firms have emerged as lowest bidders in many infrastructural projects in India, with the active support of the Chinese Government. Such Chinese Footprints were increasingly being noticed in many states," said an officer working in security establishment.

In 2017, China Ambassdor Luo Zhaohui visited the World war 11 Cemetery at village Longtong in district Tinsukia, Assam. His visit wasn't taken for a common tour by the security establishment as Tinsukia is not very far away from China border and strategic assets of the armed forces are deployed there.

"China is making efforts through its businessmen to gain access to decision-making levels in Indian establishments," said an officer deployed in the security establishment.

Notably, China is using the same methods of intelligence-gathering as those of their counterparts in the US and Russia under the cover of legitimate activities. Its intelligence-gathering is through academics and scholars, business people and intelligence operatives under the official cover of diplomats, defence attaches and journalists.

China has established one such centre in Mumbai and was making efforts of doing so in Vellore, Sulur, Coimbatore and Kolkata for intelligence activities.

Navy inducts LCU, GRSE becomes 'first' Indian shipyard to deliver 100 warships.

Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on Saturday became the "first Indian shipyard" to build and deliver 100 warships, the state-owned company said.

GRSE Chairman and Managing Director, Rear Admiral (Retd) V K Saxena, formally handed over the 100th warship -- 'IN LCU L-56' -- to the Indian Navy, it said. The 100th warship, a Landing Craft Utility (LCU), is the sixth of an order of eight such vessels from the Navy, the company said in a release.

On March 27, GRSE had handed over its 99th warship, 'ICGS Priyadarshini' -- an advanced 'Fast Patrol Vessel' -- to the Indian Coast Guard.

First secure link between India, US navies set up.

India and the US have set up the first ever secure communication link between the naval headquarters here and the US Central as well as Pacific Naval Commands under the landmark Indo-US COMCASA pact reached last year.

ET has reliably gathered that the US has also activated the Selective Availability AntiSpoofing Module GPS system in some of C-130 and C-17 transport aircraft as a result of the implementation of the COMCASA (Communications, Compatibility & Security Agreement).

In a major boost to India’s defence diplomacy, the two upgrades will allow both sides to share real-time operational intelligence. In the case of the C-130s and C-17s, the systems were purchased but not activated because the US said it could not part with the encryption codes until the enabling COMCASA pact is signed. The establishment of a secure active link between the two navies is being seen as a significant step forward as India will gain access to latest US naval intelligence besides conducting joint operations in the future.

The link was set up, sources said, by a US team which visited India recently. The Comcasa pact will in due course enable both sides to operate on the same communication systems, thus helping build an “interoperable” environment for militaries. Without this pact, the US could not part with highly coded communication gear with the military platforms they sell to India. As a result, India had to depend on less secure systems on, otherwise, high-end platforms like C-130Js and the P8I maritime surveillance aircraft, among others.

While negotiating the pact, India also obtained a reliability assurance from the US that it will ensure availability of secured communication equipment covered by the pact at all time as well as keep them operational.

India was also assured that the US will not share data from Indian platforms with another country, nor access this data without prior permission. Also, sources said, the choice to upgrade would rest with India and not wholly determined by the US.

What is the status of the Shyena light and Varunastra torpedoes? Shyena was formally inducted in 2012 and reportedly we also sold or have agreed to sell to Myanmar. How many have we actually produced/inducted and which platforms carry these torpedoes? Can our P8I's and the upcoming MH60R use these torpedoes or are we tied to using Khan weapons with Khan platforms? How does the Shyena compare with the MK54?

For the Varunastra, it was declared that they are ready for ship borne deployment. Are the P15A destroyers or any other ships armed with the Varunastra or are we still using the old Russian type 53-65 torpedoes for all our surface combatants as well? Wiki says 73 have been ordered to be fitted on various surface ships. The number seems fairly small. A submarine launched version is under development. Are we developing two versions for using with Russian standard tubes and one for western standard tubes?

Having indigenous high end weapons is very important, from the point of view of price as well as availability of the weapons system. Latest high end weapons cost a bomb and we can only afford to have a few of these gold plated systems in the inventory.

Anti-submarine torpedo Varunastra inducted in navy

https://thediplomat.com/2019/01/indias- ... torpedoes/

https://www.ssbcrack.com/2016/07/15-poi ... rpedo.html
The torpedo can be launched from Kolkata, Delhi, Teg, Talwar and Kamorta classes of ships.
This made India one of the eight countries to have the capability to design and build such a system. 73 such torpedoes have been ordered by the Indian Navy.
This landmark has put navy in the elite club of navies across the globe that can boast of self-reliance in under water sensors and under water weapons.

Significant development , shame on us if we still import a 530mm torpedo in this class , systematic but gradual stoppage of imports is needed to maintain both self reliance as well as preserve our economy.

I think version of Varunastra for use on Kalavari class should be the next step and completed on war footing .

This would mean 12 ships of IN to use the torpedo, not counting the 4 P15Bs currently under construction. Only 73 torpedos for 12 ships already in service seems too low. Seems like just a first order for use with P15A and Kamorta class. The rest would still operate with the russian Type53 torpedos. We will probably replace them progressibely as the shelf life of the Type53's expires.

What about the Light torpedo? It was formally inducted in the IN in 2012, but there has been no news of any orders or production or of any platforms carrying the torpedos. L&T had developed a triple ship based launcher for these torpedos and initial reports had claimed the Kamorta class was to carry these light torpedos instead of the heavy ones. Thankfully it seems that has changed. Not sure if any other ships carry the triple launcher and TAL torpedos. More importantly light torpedos are mainly used by Helicopters and MPA's. Don't know if the Seakings or Il-38s carry these or whether any trials have been conducted with N-ALH? The P8I carry US Mk54 and so will the MH60R. If the perforance of TAL is close then in future we can use the same with these platforms as well.

Agreed.
But the Asagiri blends well with the colour of the water and Kadmatt looks a little bit too light.
Maybe it's the image or the waters in that area suit the Asagiri more?
