Balakot Islamic Terrorist training camp strike by India is described by the US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo in his statement as “Indian counter-terrorism actions”.

Demands the Mohammadden Terrorism Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan take steps for “de-escalating current tensions by avoiding military action” and also takes “meaningful action against terrorist groups operating on its soil”.

Pompeo’s statement is not the usual equal=equal US statements of old.

Concern Regarding India-Pakistan Tensions

Press Statement
Michael R. Pompeo
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
February 26, 2019

Following Indian counter-terrorism actions on February 26, I spoke with Indian Minister of External Affairs Swaraj to emphasize our close security partnership and shared goal of maintaining peace and security in the region. I also spoke to Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi to underscore the priority of de-escalating current tensions by avoiding military action, and the urgency of Pakistan taking meaningful action against terrorist groups operating on its soil. I expressed to both Ministers that we encourage India and Pakistan to exercise restraint, and avoid escalation at any cost. I also encouraged both Ministers to prioritize direct communication and avoid further military activity.

I hope there are no stolen artifacts from India. Will never know unless someone (ASI etc.) pays a visit. This news came up initially few years ago. Not sure why it has been resurrected.

FBI seizes thousands of artifacts, human bones believed to belong to Native Americans from Indiana man’s house
The FBI is searching for the rightful owners of thousands of artifacts and the rightful resting place for thousands of human bones after the massive, illegal stockpile was seized from the home of a scientist who worked on the first atomic bomb.

Donald C. Miller ran a museum out of his home in Waldron, Ind., of artifacts he unearthed during his trips to South America, North America, Asia and Indo-Pacific regions. Some of the artifacts he had on display included Ming vases, Native American arrowheads and human remains. The FBI said Miller collected more than 42,000 artifacts over about 60 years. He died in 2015 at the age of 91.

There are a lot of these Indiana Jones types who smuggled god knows what from the so-called "third world" in the earlier part of the 20th century. There was even a short story about a guy trying to smuggle an elephant sculpture or something in Malgudi Days, iirc.

India should first pass a rule that any Indian artifact can go abroad only with express permission from GoI, and whatever is already out is deemed as smuggled out and therefore actionable. I believe China or some other Asian country has a similar law. Probably the Italians too..

china has sent survey teams to western museums incl london to catalogue stolen items and demand their return.

the british , with 1:10 ratio between on_display:in_basement are terrified of bringing up anything from basement now, because chinese 'teams' are always watching like hawks :)

the british, spaniards, french and dutch are likely to have the most stolen loot. tourists from the looted countries have to pay in euros to see what was robbed from them. dhimmis say its very well cared for vs home country.

Proof of an F-16 being shot down. 2 Pilots have ejected. You can even hear sound of 2 distinct and simultaneous ejections. Indian MiG-21 which was shot down was single seater. This F-16 looks like PAFs twin seater variant. Also do listen to the conversation of locals in the video

While the exact details of the restrictions were discussed in a closed-door session, and thus remains classified, Miller then broadly outlined some of the restrictions, which he said were over a "dozen new and unprecedented elements" of the security plan for Pakistan.

Miller then told lawmakers that the security provisions also include semi-annual inventories of all F-16 aircraft equipment and munitions, including related technical data, and more frequent inventories for other systems. (It is official - Terroristan air force chief, the base commander at Chaklala and other fields that F-16's operate from and the pilots flying them have to bend in line holding the vaseleine jar atleast two times every year :lol: )

"There is a two-man rule, so to speak, for access to this equipment and restricted areas, and F-16 flights outside of Pakistan or participation in exercises and operations with third nations must be approved in advance by the United States government :rotfl: :rotfl: ," the then top State Department official said, according to the transcripts of the hearing.
A more extensive excerpt from Statement of John Hillen, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Political Military Affairs, U.S. Department of State to the Committee on International Relations of the US House of Representatives dating to 20 July 2006.

It will be interesting to see if the “Semiannual inventories of all F–16 aircraft equipment and munitions” by the US will show an F16 and AMRAAM missing from the inventory and this information actually makes it to the public domain despite non disclosure stipulations thereby confirming that India downed an F16:
The Administration very carefully considered the potential risk of diversion of United States technology and equipment, and we are taking appropriate steps to minimize those risks. Furthermore, the Government of Pakistan, including the Pakistan Air Force, has been extremely cooperative in responding to our concerns on the security of aircraft and technology.

I think we will discuss this in detail in the closed session further, but I would like to note a few things. First of all, the security plan greatly exceeds United States Air Force standards for our own security of these weapon systems. I know all the Members have great respect for the way in which our Air Force protects its security, but I would also like to highlight nearly a dozen new and unprecedented elements of the security plan for Pakistan.

We, of course, have had a U.S. Government security site survey of their bases and facilities. We have put into the deal that they must comply with the approved security plans for their F–16 related bases and facilities before we will release any systems in the sale. We will have a U.S. presence to monitor compliance with the security plan requirements. A very enhanced end-use monitoring program. Semiannual inventories of all F–16 aircraft equipment and munitions, including related technical data. More frequent inventories for other systems. There are separate and distinct and restricted areas for the F–16 aircraft equipment and munitions. And no mixing with third-country origin aircraft equipment and munitions, and all of this will be monitored. Routine access to F–16 aircraft and munitions is in restricted areas and limited to Pakistan Air Force personnel that are preapproved for such. There is a two-man rule, so to speak, for access to this equipment and restricted areas. And F–16 flights outside of Pakistan and participation in exercises and operations with third nations must be approved in advance by the United States Government. The maintenance is limited to remove and replace line replaceable units and shop replaceable units. And Pakistani Air Force personnel must perform the maintenance. No Pakistan contractors, industry, or third-country nationals. We have also mandated that the F–16 maintenance and parts storage must be in dedicated facilities. Also part of the overall surveillance plan.

Tariff fight with India is not going anywhere until next guv, but DT's re-election and picking up India for the next trade fight is very much expected.

India a very high tariff nation, would charge reciprocal tax: Donald Trump
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Saturday accused India of being a “high tariff nation” and threatened to impose “a reciprocal tax” to match the heavy duties that New Delhi imposes on goods imported from the United States.

Addressing the last day of a four-day annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, the US President said, "India is a very high tariff nation. When we send a motorcycle to India, they charge 100 per cent tariff. When India sends a motorcycle to us, we charge nothing. I want a reciprocal tax, at least I want to charge a tax."

Royal Enfield in U.S.

Enfield, originally a classic UK brand but manufactured by India’s Eicher Motors Ltd (EICH.NS) in southern India since the early 1970s, has thwarted Harley’s efforts to make inroads in India, the world’s biggest two-wheeler market with some 17 million in sales annually.

Both companies are dwarfed in the lightweight categories by India’s Hero Motor Corp (HROM.NS), Japan’s Honda and Bajaj Auto (BAJA.NS), and so far Enfield’s presence outside India in the more specialized market in medium-sized and large cruisers has been minimal.

Its arrival in North America three years ago signaled another headache for Harley, although sales of its iconic “Bullet” and “Classic” motorcycles have been stuck in the hundreds.

^^^Trump has some hard on about Harley Davidson motorcycles. Perhaps those are the bikes of rich racists. I know of people who like motorcycles and for touring bikes they like the Honda Goldwings and Yamahas over the Harleys. Just better quality. No one in India will buy the Harley because of fuel economy except for a few and at the same time the Enfield is too underpowered for the US market. I would say as this issue can be easily defused - keep discussion with the Trump and then offer to drop all duties on the US ONLY made Harleys sold in India. In return get him to drop duties on Indian steel or something else.

Trump *thinks* he needs a win for his re-election. He went after China hoping for a quick win but negotiations have bogged down. Even if China is hurting massively by this creeping trade war, there is no visible gains to be had for the US or Trump without increased access to the China market.

He is trying to work on another country to get that quick victory hence India.

^^^That’s not going to work. India has been engaged with the US Dept. of Commerce and is willing to compromise. A trade war with the US serves no purpose as goods trade between the US and India is still less than $90 billion compared China with over $650 billion. India is on track to supplant South Korea as a US trading partner in the next 5 years. Whoever comes after trump in 2025 will not be able to ignore this. The largest trading partners of the US in order are China, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany, South Korea, UK, India, France, and Italy. India should pass the UK after 2020.

But it only impacts $190 million of goods. India-US trade in goods is over $80 billion/year. For India, the US is the 2nd largest trading partner after China. For the US, India is the 9th largest trading partner and will be the 8th largest this year. India-US trade is increasing at steady clip of 10% a year.

If you had noticed carefully, in the last four years US agri products were hugely available in Big Bazaar and other retail outselts. Take for example, Washington Gala Apples: exactly same price as in the US after rupee to dollar conversions. A lot of US agri products were coming in without any or very little tariff. if US withdraws GSP, then the free run of the US agri products will come to an end too. This will be a good news for millions of Indian farmers.

Looks like Trump is acting on the pressure from Amazon and Walmart for limiting their monopoly in favor of millions of small e-traders. Also, Visa and Mastercard are unhappy because they have to store the data of Indian transactions on the Indian soil.

Modiji is trying best to prevent Bharat becoming a new colony of the colonial powers of the yesteryears.

Do not want to derail the attack thread, but this is the kind of thing we should expect in the near future
The dilapidated state of the Indian Air Force was thrown into sharp relief last week when Pakistan shot down an Indian pilot flying a Russian-made MiG-21 Bison, a fighter jet first flown in 1956.
The loss of the jet shines a light on India’s aging military and may lend new urgency to New Delhi’s long-delayed fighter replacement program, analysts said. The renewed focus would be a boon for the U.S. aerospace giants Boeing and Lockheed Martin, which are eyeing the lucrative contract for more than 100 airplanes. In addition to the immediate cash value for whichever company wins the work, India’s fighter replacement also offers Boeing and Lockheed the opportunity to extend the production of legacy systems that are reaching the end of their service lives.
“The dogfight with Pakistan has moved fighter modernization higher on Mr. Modi’s list of priorities,” said Thompson, calling the incident an “embarrassment.” Thompson’s think tank receives funding from a range of firms including Lockheed and Boeing.Richard Aboulafia, an analyst with the Teal Group, agreed that the dogfight could up the ante in India’s fighter procurement. The vintage MiG-21s “are best kept out of the way” or in “the nearest museum,” he said.

“One would hope that this would lead to an attack of common sense and good government,” Aboulafia said but cautioned that an acceleration of the effort is far from guaranteed. “The track record is nothing short of awful.”
I think these creatures are an embarrassment to the 56% goblins in the Estados Unidos, but then again opinions are asholes with everybody having one.
“India has the resources to buy top-of-the-line fighters, it has the military requirements, and now it has the stimulus of a neighbor that is shooting at it,” Thompson said.
Yes yindus give us your bleddy money already and buy our mic stuff with all riders applicable.

When the F-35 is finally offered to India for license production
in 203X AD with our AMCA reaching IOC, it will be called the F-36I and some will bill it as a 'strategic win' to 'consummate' the 'natural partnership'.

The funny thing is, a 'bulked -up' F-21 ( F-16 cough cough) with those EFTs and other add-ons will be shot down even more easily in close-combat by a R-73 equipped MiG-21 Bison.

USA Denied Visa to Top Indian DRDO Defence Scientists

Visa denial to DRDO officials including DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy IMO does not have anything to do with the Mission Shakthi ASAT test as the denial predated the ASAT test by a few weeks. Below question mentions “three weeks”. Possibly CAATSA?

Anyway weird answer by Robert Palladino. Possibly in the disjointed style of the Trump Administration, one bit of the State Department failed to communicate with another bit of the State Department about a visa denial despite being invited by another department of the Trump Administration.

MR PALLADINO: I don’t have anything further on that today.

India? Sure, Tejinder. Go ahead, please.

QUESTION: Is there a shift in U.S.-India defense relationship? There has been denial of visas to Indian defense officials and that also after extending an invite to them. I have two examples from last three weeks. One is the secretary DRDO, Dr. Satheesh, and he was here even in December with the Indian defense minister. And the second one is Dr. Guruprasad, DG production, and out of a team of five he was only one who was denied visa. So these both were not coming first time or any clearance issues. So is there a shift in the policy? Because I know that you don’t talk about visas from the podium, but please, is there a policy why these people are getting denied the visas after then invite?

MR PALLADINO: The United States – no, okay. The United States-India defense and security cooperation is rapidly expanding as part of our deepening strategic partnership, and India is one of the premier security partners in the Indo-Pacific region. So as part of that effort, exchanges, reciprocal visits between American and Indian defense officials – they’re increasing at an unprecedented pace. We – the United States, we seek to expand our defense and security cooperation with India, and that includes defense and security officials. And I’ll stop there.

Bill Introduced In US Congress Aims To Put India On Par With NATO Allies.

A bipartisan group of half a dozen influential American lawmakers has reintroduced an important legislation in the House of Representatives which seeks to advance the US-India strategic relationship.If enacted, the legislation would ensure that the US State Department treat India as a NATO ally for the purposes of the Arms Export Control Act.

It would send a powerful signal that defence sales to India should be prioritised according to US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, which had worked on this important legislation.

The bill HR 2123 was introduced this week by Congressman Joe Wilson, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

"India is the world's largest democracy, a pillar of stability in the region, and has shown strong commitments to export control policies," said Mr Wilson.

"This adjustment to US law will further allow the US-India partnership to flourish in line with our security commitment to the Indo-Pacific region. I am grateful for the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), led by Dr Mukesh Aghi, and their support for this legislation," he said.

The original co-sponsors of the legislation are Congressman Ami Bera - the longest serving Indian-American in the US Congress - and the House India Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen George Holding, Brad Sherman and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and Congressman Ted Yoho.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal 2017 included special language recognising the unique US-India defence relationship that designated India as a "Major Defence Partner" of the United States.

The language seeks unique consideration for trade and technology sharing with India and increased attention and support to advance this relationship in the areas of defence trade and technology sharing.

"The legislation bolsters national security and helps ensure full alignment between the Department of Defense and the Department of State."

"Such a change will institutionalise the gains made in the relationship and provide a more stable foundation upon which both countries can solidify this unique defence partnership," USISPF said.

Although powerful in its own right, the NDAA FY 2017 has no legal bearing on the State Department's body of legislation, nor does it compel the State Department to view defence with India more favourably, USISPF said in a statement.

To fulfill the spirit and intent of the NDAA 2017, the US-India Enhanced Cooperation Act would amend the Arms Export Control Act to put India on par with NATO allies and Israel, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

"We applaud Congressman Wilson's leadership in reintroducing this important bill. We are confident the US Congress will continue to enact legislation that bolsters the bilateral. The great power competition is not lost on Members of Congress, who understand the strategic imperative for a deeper relationship with India," said Mr Aghi, president and CEO of USISPF.

National Public Radio's "deceit with dignity" has presented itself upfront here with this report. The process of demonizing India has renewed in the American left. The right always hated brown non-Christian people, so not much is remaining. It is a week long reporting about India during the election.

The lady is a bimbo who does not even know European history. After WWII many of the maps were re-drawn and many former German cities became part of new countries. Many non-German cities became part of new countries. Here are some of the changes which partly reflect the desire of the local population to remove the name of oppressive regimes and tyrants who once held sway over their territories:

Auschwitz (where the death camp was located) ----> Oswiecim (new name)(Poland)

Konigsberg ----> Kaliningrad(Russia) The 7 bridges of Konigsberg is a famous mathematical problem posed by L. Euler and the start of Graph Theory.

Breslau------> Wroclaw (now in Poland)

Danzig----> Gdansk(now in Poland)

Karlsbad---> Karlovy Vary(Czech Republic)

Reichenberg--->Liberec(Czech Republic)

Funfkirchen---> Pecs(Hungary)

Lvov---> Lviv (Ukraine)

Leningrad-->St. Petersburg(Russia)

Stalingrad---> Volgograd (Russia)

NPR is deceit with dignity. I donated to them once in the past, but never again.

I decided to take the NPR email route: https://help.npr.org/customer/portal/emails/new ("Contact an NPR show or blog / Select "Morning Edition" / "Comment" / "Negative" )

This allows me to rope in my local station (KUT) and hopefully engage them too.

Provided them with three instances where she goofed it badly. AND, suggested that the NPR News dept in Mumbai be closed (until a suitable reporter with experience, who fits the current environment, is found?). Else that NPR will force a lot of us who are centrists to the right for no fault of ours.

Last month terminated my NYT subscription. This month NPR.

@vsunder,

Correct me if I am wrong. India has only reverted to the original names. In her article (in the link I provided) she rants about Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangaluru, about Anglo names. But never mentions that India has retained Ghaziabad, Faridabad, etc. But, she does mention that the Allahabad Court and Uni will retain their names!!! So much for right wingism that they change only some names and retain others within the same city.

What do Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai have to do with muslim "heritage"? Maybe someone can point out the example of bhaktiyarpur, and what heritage that name represents.

Yes absolutely I agree, and IIT Bombay is just that too officially, not IIT Mumbai. In the examples I gave some did revert to their original names like for example St. Petersburg and Volgograd.

Not Muslim. Anglo.

She is trying to tar those Indians who want to restore the India prior to foreign invasions and rule. The typical history started when I was born. Max Mueller syndrome.

True, but she is using these 4-5 examples to bolster her case, under a sub-heading called "Erasing Muslim names" in an article titled "India Is Changing Some Cities' Names, And Muslims Fear Their Heritage Is Being Erased". Without these examples, how many cities are left in the renamed bucket that are "aimed at Muslims"? Her entire article will flat then.

This only goes to show how much she knows about her new bailiwick:
Nehru, originally from Kashmir, grew up in Allahabad. He wanted India to be a secular, multifaith country. He was a close ally of the freedom leader Mohandas Gandhi. Together they helped write India's Constitution.
:lol: NPR basically took credit away from the entire Constituent Assembly and Ambedkar and gave it to two people, one of whom had nothing to do with the constitution, written as it was 2 years after his death. Not to mention the fact that the liberal constitution is an expression of the people of India, and not the other way around like in America.

We should remember to use this when a future sob story of upper class "oppression" is published. And note, I said "when", not "if".

Till then, this is only an article written by a person who has no clue about India, aimed at an equally clueless audience.
