India should ignore these "waivers" and "sanctions" which are certainly not UN-imposed. Instead of exposing corporations, do them through govt. channels. Friendship with Iran is vital, going forward. In fact, India should demand a US-iran agreement that enables Afghanistan to be protected.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Krebsonsecurity has written good articles on DNC hack including noting simple things like how the same breadcrumbs get interpreted differently when they lead to Russia vs China.

a) a fireproofed trade and finance chain to operate. The bank taking payment cannot be one doing business in US or with any US entity. UCO bank was used for this in the past, as I recall. The ships shipping the crude cannot be from companies with substantial US interests that may be impacted by sanctions.
b) Either that, or we use state owned behemoths like SBI and imply that any sanctions upon them will invite punitive actions against US banking interests in India.

b) of course. These sorts of on-again-off-again "sanctions", "waivers" etc are random misdirected loose cannon fire per the whims of either WHOTUS or COTUS, no sensible American public or business interest is served. Only some lasting lessons will stop this nonsense. Relations between nations are reciprocal. It is up to India to stand by her interests and those of her citizens and establishments. IOW per the Gitanjali
The Lok & Rajya Sabha should pass a very public law banning the government from kowtowing to such things, and declare them as violations of Indian law. Today I think that would convey just the right message and get plenty of traction.
How can any Indian company start long-term investment in Iran and US, knowing the fickleness of GOTUS whims added to all the other uncertainties of the mullahs and neighbors? So these things are detrimental to the interest of India.
Simultaneously drive a bargain with both US and Israel: India deals with Iran to bring security and peace to Afghanistan via the southern route, and with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan for the northern route. US-Israel back off as long as Iran cooperates in this noble endeavor for Peace in South Asia. It is certainly in the interests of Israel to have the Kuds Force etc come from Syria and take up positions along the southeast border of Afghanistan if u get mah drift.
I hope NaMo or Chowkidarini Nirmala S. are reading this we they usually do to learn world news and get the top analyses from UBCN. We are serious: This is a Jaswant-Talbott Moment to crack the Afghanistan Problem along with Solving the Pakistan Problem

Re: Understanding the US - Again
While I've no disagreement with the approach itself, I've not seen a lot of anecdotal evidence that we've an institutional mechanism in place to ensure we can punitively retaliate towards various forms of non-tariff barriers, ranging from WTO disputes, to immigration related actions of others, to these kinds of blow hot blow cold 'Sanction XYZ!' actions. I agree that there's no long term policy prerogative on the US part here, and it's tailored to feed particular US domestic audiences.
However, India has IMHO quite some work to do to establish similar institutional structures capable of quickly retaliating and publicizing actions in response. For example, let's say UK or US adds some sort of heavyhanded immigration check / test on Indian nationals - an immediate change in policy is implemented targeting nationals of those countries for additional penalties or scrutiny, e.g. all single middle aged male nationals traveling from those countries to India subject to additional background checks and search of their computer/phone for EJ/pedo material due to heightened risk profile. Or Harley Davidson having its roadworthiness certificates pulled halting sales with immediate effect. Regardless of what it is, the importance lies in the response being immediate.

OT here but to add to Suraj's post above India has to dismantle the babucracy that is a vestige of the colonial past and build a new one that puts nation first. Our current babudom is to rule not govern. But to do that we need a Bhartiya government in power and not a deracinated nehruvian marxist leader. So the rot is from top and needs years or maybe decades to fix.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Any possibility of having Dollar replacement currency, like Reminbi-Rouble-Rupee (R3)?
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Part of me thinks that a period of US sanctions will bring a sense of cold reality to a new generation of indians, who have not been innoculated against them for nearly 2 decades. The pain will allow india to finally walk away from endless sunk costs such as the Westinghouse reactors which are likely to escalate in price and delays.
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/03/ ... 08714.html
As long as the PRC and the USA continue to play silly buggers regarding the NSG membership then any sanctions would make it untenable to continue with Westinghouse who are now owned by a hedge fund.

Christian Terrorists being prosecuted under hate crimes in US instead of terrorism. I believe as usual targeted were Hindus and not Muslims that he wanted to kill. Need to confirm.
https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/04/26/ ... raignment/
Added later:
1) Another case of "I wanted to kill muslims" but ended up mistaking Hindus for muslims.
2) Former army vet claiming PTSD defense
3) pretty much stayed around in california for past few years
4) strong connection with Jesus and was on the way to bible study when the carnage took place
Terror suspect went to college in california and worked in california so how does he not know who is muslim and not? or where to find muslims?
Or is this really a case of EJ going through different category of targets?
Is it a coincident that pretty much all incidents where Hindus ended up dead instead of muslims have a strong EJ connection?
Are these incidents really "mistaken identity" cases?
Were the targets pagans/heathens to begin with but involved party was against muslims too?

Peoples served more than five years in the Army in the mid-to-late 2000s, including 11 months in Iraq, and rose to the rank of sergeant. He worked in civil affairs, but before that, he served as a gunner and provided security, his brother said. He was honorably discharged, according to Army records, and received numerous awards and commendations, including an Army Commendation Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Combat Action Badge and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
After returning home, Peoples remained in the service a few more years and in 2012 earned an accounting degree from Sacramento State University. He worked as a pricing specialist for a company in Rocklin before starting his current job as a military contract auditor in Sunnyvale for the Defense Contract Audit Agency in August 2017.

Here are the names of the people who were injured -darshan wrote:Christian Terrorists being prosecuted under hate crimes in US instead of terrorism. I believe as usual targeted were Hindus and not Muslims that he wanted to kill. Need to confirm.

Rajesh Narayan is probably the father of the 13 year old Dhriti. So the people injured are one Hindu family, and others who seem to be asian and hispanic and possibly white. Not a single Muslim victim, yet who does the News service go to for a comment....why CAIR of course -"the injured 13-year-old girl, who in an investigative summary submitted to the court was identified only by her first name, Dhriti, “Our hearts are with her and her loved ones as we pray for her recovery.”"
"The girl’s father and 9-year-old brother, Prakhar, who was also identified only by his last name, also were hurt "
"The summary identified the other injured victims as Marina Reimler, 32; Soeren Reimler, 33; Ping Lu, 51; Rajesh Narayan, 45; Eric Nava, 24; and Miguel, 15, who was identified only by his first name. It was not clear which of the adults was the father of the 13-year-old girl and her brother."
Zahra Billoo, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, San Francisco Bay Area, said that after 9/11, Muslims questioned whether it was safe to go to a mosque. This attack, she said, makes members of the Muslim community “question whether it’s safe to go into the street.”
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Yes that's correct. Army veteran is more than capable of figuring out who was who. I believe that the muslim comment was made by the law enforcement and/or local media. The culprit only seem to have hailed Jesus and not say anything else. Victims group could have come off as one big similar looking people with Hispanics mixed with Indian family. However, muslim groups as predicted ran with opportunity to play victims with many Hindu Indians also joining muslim lives matter campaign. Synagogue event essentially brushed everything off the news.
Ran into only one news blog doing analysis with the identifying Hindu traits. I decided not to link here as it seems like a Islam apologist front.
Were the heathens the target to begin with?

The reason I linked Fox. But looks like it has moved into content body of many articles now. Initial reports refrained from openly stating it. I believe that the headlines are still empty of muslim word unlike Sunnyvale attack where it's not confirmed while here it's confirmed. Similarly the word terrorism is there and not the hate crime in headlines. I wonder if they have reached out to CAIR and others for feedback.UlanBatori wrote:Not quite: Fact that he was "acting for his Mu***** Faith" is mentioned, as well as his support for ISIS. Coup in Eyeran is "Been there done that": Mossadegh circa 1970s. Deposing him was one of the Brightest Ideas Of All Time, registered in the See Eye Ayh Hall of (in) Fame. That is what put the "Shah Of Eyeran" - some petty colonel - in charge, and led to the Ayatollah's takeover. Mossadegh was IIRC just an election-winner dude. They traded him for Khomeini. Look at the boon in F-14 sales, etc etc. The Shah was on the point of buying a nuclear Aircraft Carrier ($4B) when he was deposed.

Maybe now they will get the ISIS into Venezuela, since that is pretty safe from Putin's Tu-22s and their ALCMs.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/04/30/ ... e-support/“My client’s cousins are Muslim — it’s hard to believe he would hate Muslims,” attorney Chuck Smith said of accused driver Isaiah Joel Peoples, 34, adding that police and prosecutors have not shared any evidence with him that would support the idea of a hate crime.
“I do know also that while he was in Iraq, his job was as a community officer who would go into safe areas and try to help the community rebuild,” Smith said. “He obviously worked with many Muslim citizens of Iraq, so it’s difficult to believe that his experience helping people rebuild their country would cause someone to hate Muslims.”.

Similar experiences on my side too. Drinking the "we have arrived" Kool aid. What's interesting to me is that somehow the justice system knows the shades of brown and the element green. From how to play one brown vs another to letting go of similar cases with the element green. More pukes and middle eastern descent were involved in the pharma gravy train during Obama boom years than Indian descent. Possibly people in the legal industry can look into it and chime without any potential legalese. Usual issues associated with their cases were lot serious than Indian guys. Ranging from havala, immigration, to Medicare/Medicaid frauds while running their joints. Seen it in both red and blue states. Which aspects allows them to get through the justice system easier than Indian descent people is worth looking into.Lalmohan wrote:some brown folks in amreeka (including in my friends and familee) think that white folks think of them as special
