Had a word with family and a few bolice afsars in Chhattisgarh. The view is that CG will give 6-7 lotuses to NaMo this time. Down from 10 of 11 in 2014. My parents' maid and few other blue collar workers I could speak to (typically native tribals and oriya migrants) in the cities have decided to vote lotus this time and their view is that it was a mistake to vote panja in the assembly.

Me and my sibling flew down to our constituency and voted lotus. Sadly, a cousin and aunt who flew down from Delhi could not vote since their names were struck off the voter roll.

My gut feeling in BhaJaPa will end up between 220-250 MPs this time.

Obligatory: NaMo will loose onlee :(( :((

Thanks. 6-7 seats in CG is still good considering how badly BJP fared in the assembly elections.

The polling percentage in WB looks suspicious. It seems that it will reach late 70s at the most conservative estimate.

It's either massive rigging or people are really pissed off at begam.

Perpetrators of riots should definitely be punsihed, but don't forget the atrocities khalistanis committed against Hindus and their hateful murderous spree in your hatred of congress.
An average of 20 to 25 Hindus were being shot dead every day in targeted killings by Khalistanis across Punjab, and it went on for years ... Nobody talks about it now, just like for Godhra, nobody talks about the women and children who were burnt, but only focus on riots that followed. This is a common strategy followed by Muslims and Christians both in India ... hide the root cause that they are responsible for, and just focus on reaction of the otherwise peaceful majority and for years, keep beating their chests
You might want to check satp.org for the actual casualties and the number of terrorists eliminated. Again, what does this have to do about the death of innocent folks in a riot? Were the Siljs killed in the riot the ones who were machine gunning the Hindus? Also, who constituted the majority of the Punjab police who took on the khalistanis? Sikhs or Hindus?

Dragging in muslims and Christian's into this event is not warranted either. Implying that Punjab violence was the primary root cause for the riots is silly.

There were no riots when violence in Punjab was at a peak. These riots occurred only after one political leader died and were led by her party people who ensured state machinery was unable to stop them.

Dont try to paint the anti Sikh riots as some Hindu reaction.

You are not being a given a warning this time because you are posting on BRF after a while. But in the future, refrain from making such frivolous, unthinking posts which parrot the worst kind of anti India propaganda spread by the Khalistanis about the Sikh riots being some kind of Hindu lesson and what not. When they were anything but. Hindus could have rioted much earlier and did not. And it is the community taking the propaganda hit over what INC folks did.

Riots were a norm till mid 90's and people would go crazy and kill each other. The last big one happened under NM's watch. How many of the BRF posters were secretly happy or have shown satisfaction that Peacefools were shown the might of Hindus for once. It is always about state of existence at that point in time.
Why does no one call out incompetent PVNR who was the Union Home Minister at that time or did he chose to become another Manmohan Singh during those days and in 7 years got promoted to being the PM himself. What was President Zail Singh doing at that time ? Sleeping or worried about his own job. In the immortal words of U-turn Kejri,"Sub Saale mile hue hain"
It was afterall, a different day, different shit !!
Sir you are all over the place. Youu are doing == between modi and rajeev. You neee to understand the difference. 2002 were riots whereas 84 was a massacre. Modi came down heavily on rioters and was able to control the widespread violence. After so many enquiries no one could find evidence of his complacency. Rajeev otoh was nonchalant. It was congress goons killing sikhs and not hindus.

how much can the NDA allies like AMMK, Akalis, NE small parties , JDU be expected to get? can they make up around 25 ?

Bihar has 40 seats. BJP-JDU should do strong there.

MH with 48 seats and MP with 29 are the key imo => need a good show there because 2014 was big in these. 77 meaty seats there.

Congress, Culpability And Kamal Nath
An unqualified apology by either Sonia Gandhi or Rahul for 1984 would effectively help the party move on. So why have they not done so?
Hartosh Singh Bal
16 June 2016
Congress, Culpability And Kamal Nath

On Nov 1, 1984, some time after 2 pm, The Indian Express reporter Sanjay Suri headed to Gurdwara Rakabganj after hearing of trouble there. He found Kamal Nath heading a mob of about 4,000 while the police headed by Additional Commissioner Gautam Kaul, first cousin to Indira Gandhi, stood by. Earlier in the day the mob had burned two Sikh men to death, and their bodies still lay there burning as the sated mob made desultory attempts to enter the gurdwara.

Sanjay Suri has since in his book 1984: The Anti-Sikh Violence and After pointed out that the mob was completely under Kamal Nath's control and seemed to be composed of Congressmen. What is clear is that Kamal Nath stayed there for several hours without attempting to disperse the hostile crowd under his control. He also made no attempt to ensure that the bodies of those burnt to death were either carried away by the police, or handed over to their kin in the gurdwara. In the context of the massacres of 1984 and 2002, this was the one clear incident where a credible witness could point to the presence of a senior politician at the head of a mob of party workers at the scene of the violence.

Given this background it is difficult to imagine why the Congress appointed him the Punjab in-charge in the first place, a decision they have been forced to rescind. According to Amarinder Singh he was "appointed as party in-charge by party president…." This answer takes us to the heart of the matter. Sonia Gandhi personally took the decision overlooking his past, choosing to illustrate that the Congress is unlikely to ever be apologetic about the 1984 violence.

The violence against the Sikhs ended in the first week of November 1984 and even then it was clear to the public that at the very least a number of mid-level Congressmen had instigated and led the murderous mobs. Yet, in the run up to the general elections at the end of December, the Congress ran a divisive and communally charged campaign with the Sikhs cast as villains. It was masterminded by Rajiv's cousin and Man Friday Arun Nehru.

Barely a month after his electoral victory Rajiv gave his first interview to India Today where he said that a judicial inquiry would not "help at the moment. It would raise issues which are really dead." It was only two months later in April that such a probe was announced.

Subsequent events clearly proved that Rajiv was not interested in reviving issues which 'were already dead', rather the probe was only a bargaining tool to bring the Sikh leadership to the negotiating table.

The Supreme Court Judge appointed to carry out the probe, Ranganath Misra, had strange ideas of fairness. While the names of victims were divulged and they were cross-examined in open court, officials deposed privately behind closed doors with no cross-questioning. The media was barred, illegally, from reporting the proceedings.

This media failure to report on the proceedings explains why Congress leaders such as Amarinder Singh can claim today that Kamal Nath's name never came up before the probe. In fact newspapers had picked up his name during course of the violence and Sanjay Suri had filed an affidavit before the commission naming Kamal Nath. Kamal Nath himself in his letter to Sonia Gandhi asking to be relieved of the post stated, "Till 2005 not a single public statement, complaint or FIR was ever made against me and the first time my name was ever mentioned in any forum was 21 years later after 1984."

This is an outright lie. On Nov 3, 1984 The Statesman reported, "Policemen criticised the role of politicians too. Several councilors, they alleged, interceded on behalf of violent mobs when policemen tried to stop arson. Officers wondered what Mr. Kamal Nath was doing at Rakabganj." Sanjay Suri's affidavit, filed a few months later in 1985 was detailed and forms the basis for the facts I have set out in the initial paragraphs.

If despite the affidavit, Misra chose not to examine Kamal Nath, it says nothing about Kamal Nath's innocence but does say a lot about why Misra was eventually given a Rajya Sabha seat by the Congress.

Twenty years later the Nanavati Commission finally examined the case against Kamal Nath and concluded:

Reply filed by Shri Kamal Nath is vague. He has not clearly stated at what time he went there and how long he remained there. The situation at the Gurudwara had become very grave at about 11.30 a.m. and continued to remain grave till about 3.30 p.m. The evidence discloses that Shri Kamal Nath was seen in the mob at about 2 p.m. The Police Commissioner had reached that place at about 3.30 p.m. So he was there for quite a long time. He has not stated whether he went to the Gurudwara alone or with some other persons and how he went there. He has not stated that he looked for the police or tried to contact the policemen who were posted there for ensuring that the situation remained under control. He left that place after the Commissioner of Police arrived. He has not stated that he met him. He was a senior political leader and feeling concerned about the law and order situation went to the Gurudwara and therefore it appears little strange that he left that place abruptly without even contacting the police officers who had come there. At the same time it is also required to be considered that he was called upon to give an explanation after about 20 years and probably for that reason he was not able to give more details as regards when and how he went there and what he did.

Clearly, it was not Kamal Nath's innocence, but the favour done by Misra that saved him from indictment 20 years later. In his letter to Sonia when Kamal Nath claims that "The Nananvati Commission setup by the NDA Government after proper investigation fully absolved me." It takes some gall to claim that the above counts as a full absolution.

Despite this history of his role in the 1984 massacres Kamal Nath rose rapidly within the party hierarchy and has continued to enjoy the confidence of the Gandhi family. His recent appointment as Punjab in-charge was a reaffirmation of the party's attitude about 1984. It is an attitude that explains why, despite the oft touted but false claim about Sonia Gandhi doing so, no representative has ever apologised on behalf of the Congress for its role in the violence.

This brings us to the evident question, why has the party persisted with this attitude and failed to take measures that are so clearly in its political self-interest. Letting go of Kamal Nath, Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar from the party would lose it nothing electorally. An unqualified apology by either Sonia Gandhi or Rahul on behalf of the Congress would effectively help the party move on, and it would put enormous pressure on Narendra Modi and the BJP over the 2002 violence.

There is only one possible answer that makes sense in these circumstances. In the course of recent piece for The Caravan on the 1984 massacres I had quoted Avtar Singh Gill, who was petroleum secretary in 1984. He had told me that on Nov 1, the day after Indira Gandhi's assassination, Rajiv Gandhi's associate the hotelier Lalit Suri had come to his office and told him to stay at home for three days, 'Clearance has been given by Arun Nehru for the killings in Delhi and the killings have started. The strategy is to catch Sikh youth, fling a tyre over their heads, douse them with kerosene and set them on fire.'

At that point of time, Arun Nehru enjoyed Rajiv Gandhi's complete confidence and acted on his behalf. This would indicate that the party's institutional involvement in the violence went up all the way up to the top. It is the only answer that explains the Gandhi family and the party's prevarications about 1984 massacres of the Sikhs and it is the only answer that can explain why a man like Kamal Nath was ever named the Punjab in-charge of the party.

Rajiv was just saying that when an important personality dies, there are large impacts. Just like when a big tree falls, the earth shakes. This is 401% true. How this is a "justification" of any riots, Allah only knows. Does anyone here really believe that Rajiv was saying "accha hua, mar gaye!" to the riots that happened when he himself was PM?
His and overall congress attitude was very casual about 83 riots. Its not like "achha hua mar gaye" it was "hamari PM mar gayi toh unhe bhi marna hi tha" (they killed our PM so obviously few of them will die". Take that statement in that context.
Was in Delhi during those terrible days. Remember the constant chanting of 'khoon ka badla khoon se lenge' whenever they showed IG's body lying in State on TV with the people filing past to pay their last respects. Large areas of the Capital were totally run over by gangs of goons looting and pillaging, murdering Sikhs wherever they were. In many of the neighborhoods including ours the locals organized watches at night to patrol the streets and protect the Sikhs who were often hiding in their neighbor's homes. In poorer jhuggi-jhonpdi colonies there was open massacre of Sikhs all night long, we could hear the cries at night from behind our home where one such colony was. Rumors were that gangs of muslims from UP were brought into Delhi in trucks to carry out the killings. HKL Bhagat and Lalit Maken (later assassinated for his role) were said to be instrumental in inciting the mobs.

All of it could have been prevented by the INC leaders if they had wanted to do so. However, the mood was one of revenge, sadly and the Sikhs paid a huge price for it. Everyone around felt outraged and the common thinking was that nothing should happen to Rajiv Gandhi, for not a single Sikh would be left alive then. Remember voting for him subsequently and thinking this is one honest man, a good leader for the nation after all the turmoil of the past few years. Boy was I wrong!

Thanks for those few posts restoring the Moral compass.

Shame on those bringing in Khalis to give a veneer of acceptability to 1984 antiSikh pogrom & projecting the congies as some sort of avengers for putting burning tyres around necks of poor Sikhs driving rented Autos/taxis or small shopkeepers in Tilak Nagar.

Keep your battered minds to yourself, instead of projecting vicarious victimhoods & misdirected animus. There is still lot of subliminal congie programming is what i understand, those long years of Doordarshan conditioning must have took its toll.

The Congies massacared thousands of Hindu Sadhus gathered in the capital to protest against Cow slaughter seeing them as a threat to their sickular regime, fast forward two decades you have congies killing thousands of Sikhs in the same capital in the name of "mourning of a great leader" just to engineer an emotional wave to win the General Election. Then a few years later the same regime at the peak of its political power oversees the ethnic cleansing of Hindu Kashmiri Pandits while subjecting them to unspeakable acts of violence.

Despite all this Congies are projected as avengers for Hindu causes? Give me a break.

Khalis & congies have a long history of working together bhindranwale was propped by Indira against the Akalis & the covert association between them continues to his day.
This election both the Khalis the ISI & Congies are openly supporting each other because they fear Modi will prosecute riot accused leaders & deflate the Khalistani sentiment once & for all.
So its an existential struggle for them as well.

Anyone going on about portraying *any* communal riot as some sort of "win" for any community is going to go to virtual Tihar jail till May 23rd.

Looks like fighting "virtual wars" with all sorts of social media provocateurs has turned otherwise sane people's heads and is making them come up with all sorts of "broad brush" strokes into interpreting such horrific, stupid, and avoidable events which only hurt everyday people, and vitiate communal relations, poison our development efforts as some sort of "revenge".

Those guys using "x" community names and trolling away on social media are likely not even Indian, but some guys sitting in Bangladesh and doing this as part of an outsourced contact.

Also, WTF does killing Hindu garage guys, Sikh auto drivers or Muslim paper sellers in some riot have to do with holding actual perpetrators of terrorism to account? Its dumb and devastates our own development. Stop being patsies and think.

And putting the whole Hindu community in the dock for being murderers for decades now. Did nothing to stop terror, played into the Khalistanis hands and on top of it, created a festering problem.

When Indira was killed the Sikhs on the road were attacked by Congress people in AP and their hair was cut etc. Fortunately there was not many sikhs in our areas so their could not do much.

On the night when Rajiv was killed I was sleeping outside in my home (some 200Km from Sri Perumbathur) in AP. Out side my home there were Tamil people huts. In the night those huts were attacked by Congress people and destoryed. All Tamils were driven out. TDP Party office was attacked and the workers sleeping there were badly beaten and their bones were fractured. They attacked BJP office (BJP was a minor player in AP at that time) with bombs and one person was seriously injured. These congress "workers" were lead personally by local Congress leaders. In the morning Congress people went to town saying that NTR organised killing of Rajiv. Fortunately police took prompt action and no one was killed.

It is the nature of congress to do such things.

So, we have Hindu Maharashtrian Brahmins killed, murdered because Godse assassinated Gandhi.
We have Sikhs murdered en masse over Indira Gandhi.
We have Tamilians attacked in AP, because LTTE blew up Rajiv.

And yes, this is the party which preaches ahimsa, and will lead us to the hallowed halls of secular tolerance. And people justify these antics by calling any mention as "fake outrage" and get upset when asked to stop.

But, in a report in Organiser (Nov 25, 2007), the english mouthpiece of RSS, it figured the martyrs as only 375 so far. In an article entitled, “A tribute to martyrs of November 1966 firing on protest against cow slaughter“, the writer Promod Kumar conveyed, “Organised under the banner of Rashtriya Godhan Mahasangh the agitators paid rich tribute to the 375 gobhaktas including saints who were killed in police firing on November 7, 1966 while demonstrating at the Parliament for cow protection”.

It may differ the numbers of the martyrs from the highest of 5000 to to lowest of 375, but it was the largest Hindu killing by Indira Gandhi and Congress in a single day and the martyrs left their lives for a genuine cause of cow protection.

Karan ji,
The protesters were estimated to be between 3 lakh to 7 lakh by sikular media outlets under state control - lets take average of 5 lakhs of Sadhu Sant women & children who trudged into the capital peacefully carrying no arms.
They assembled in Delhi to force Indira to pass antiCowslaughter legislation as promised in Directive principles of our Constitution.
IG just assumed power post assassination of LBS by Soviets & after many balancing CBM's to the Western powers and wanted to burnish her Sickular credentials - claiming that she wont be "Cowed by Cow Worshippers". Note the usage of the term "Cow Worshippers" by IG as if they are subhuman.
After lathi charges and tear-gas shells failed to disperse crowds, police guarding Parliament House opened fire on the swelling mob. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966_anti ... _agitation
Now one can imagine what the outcome of doing lathi charge by massed police followed by firing into crowds when 5 lakh people are assembled at parliament street.
Media was very tightly controlled & both the West & the USSR didnt want a Hindu core of India unshackling its self so no reporting from western Media too.
On how media was managed an interview of a journalist Man Mohan Sharma was posted few pages back.

The nature of Congie regimes is such.
When Bandit Nehru provoked the 1954 Kumbh mela stampede by his officious entry drawing away what ever meager security was left at the ghats there was a massive stampede at the Kila ghat. English press reported that more than 1000 were killed .
Congress administration dismissed the stampede as reported in the news as "only few beggars were killed" before piling up the dead and in massive mounds & burning them on the Ganga ghats in secret.
..A dying old woman had grabbed my pant with who knows what hope. I tried in vain to free my pant from her grip; and when the grip loosened, it had torn off a part of the cloth.

…...Government officials rejected the reports of over a thousand people dying in the stampede. They issued a press note stating that only some beggars had been crushed to death. We presented before the officials the photos showing women wearing costly ornaments among the deceased, indicating that they came from well-off families.

On the second day of the accident, the administration made mounds of bodies and set them on fire. No photographer was allowed near the site. To take photos, I dressed like a villager, carried a small camera in an umbrella and pretended that I was there to see the body of my grandmother one last time. I fell on the feet of a constable…one official allowed me on the condition that I return quickly after seeing my ‘grandmother’.

I ran towards the bodies and fell on the body of an old woman crying. Then I quickly took a photo of the burning pile of bodies. When the picture was published the next day, then Chief Minister Govind Ballabh Pant let out a curse, ‘Where is the H******a photographer?’ It
was a big compliment for me.

The unnamed dead are always Hindu "beggars" and or "cow worshippers" for the congies.

This was reminded recently by Modi in a election rally in UP comparing the Kumbh mela arranged by BJP administration to those overseen by Congie regimes of the past.
"When Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister, thousands of people were killed in the Kumbh stampede in Allahabad," Modi said at an election meeting here.

Provide evidence for such lurid claims from proper sources, not NYTimes kind of stuff. Some 3000 soldiers deserted post blue star, and after short prison stints, most were taken back into Army. The stuff you are claiming was widely spread by western news sources in India and turned out to be rumor mongering.
Perpetrators of riots should definitely be punsihed, but don't forget the atrocities khalistanis committed against Hindus and their hateful murderous spree in your hatred of congress.
What is the point of the but? How do atrocities by khalistanis equal murder of Sikh innocent folks in rioting by Congress? What kind of equivalence are you drawing here?

Ask your older family members who lived through that era for proof. There are quite a few members ere who experienced the terror firsthand. People in my circles still tell stories of being afraid of answering the door. Letting crops dry because of fear, not going out to buy household essentials because of threats and worse.

Hundreds of sikh soldiers deserted army after Blue Star. I have ex-servicemen in extended family who took part in operations meant to arrest or put them down. A very large number of these were intercepted while on their way to civilian areas with weapons or on way to ransack armouries in parts of Punjab, Haryana and J&K. Most were not taken back. A significant number crossed border to Pakistan. There were incidents of firing reported in many border areas where acquaintances lived. No idea about NYT or other foreign reporting.

I studied in a sikh majority college. They had bhindrawale posters inside college premises, long after 80s-90s. I was not aware of this issue back then and didn't care much at the time because most of my closest friends at that time were sikhs and they seemed OK. If you go to sikh majority areas in places like Poonch, you'll see posters of khalistanis even on houses.

Terrorism in any community can not take roots unless there is a silent support base. only about 1-2% is brave/brainwashed enough to take up a gun. They are influenced by 20-25% of vocal radicals who again are tolerated by the rest for something like khalistani or islamic terrorism to fester. In this case, number of silent supporters was not as much and there were enough sikhs who hated khalistanis, so this movement petered out.

I absolutely hate the riots after Indira's killing. But these wannabe SJWs who cry copious tears for sikhs killed then but ignore the atrocities committed on Hindus just make me  If you have to criticise Congress, why not criticise them for propping up bhindrawale in first place ? You are just playing in to victim complex of sikhs who lie about all the atrocities which they mostly ignored and playing in to one sided propaganda in which only one side is angelic victim.

Yes, innocent sikhs died . It absolutely didn't have to happen and guilty should be punished severely. But don't drink too much of this sikh victimhood koolaid. Since then, they have been voting for congress and actually blaming RSS, Hindus for riots. One Khushwant acknowledges how RSS and other Hindu groups helped Sikhs and he is declared a sell out by these haters. By putting too much emphasis on the 1984 riots and not the events leading up to it, you are just playing for the gallery not a good actual cause.

I think some one should count the number of dead in Congress rule versus British rule after 1857 Crown takeover.

And do a histogram per decades.
And a cumulative.

I think Congress shot dead more Indians.

that does seem to be the story of this election. Not just in UP but else where too voting percentages are down in peaceful majority booths. I have a couple of theories but that wont explain why this is happening now or why this is happening across india.
