legacy of spiritual leaders:
I saw this clip of sadhguru defending the elephant corridor allegation, but that brings up a different idea.

Organizations like:
Aurobindo
Chinmayananda
Ramkrishna mission
have had successful legacies after their leaders passed on.

Ramdev baba has grown a successful corporate empire and it will continue.. He has done quite a bit on the agro product front.
Sadhguru, Shri shri run services but have also acquired considerable assets and following

These can be leveraged into entities that strategically advance social causes.

Sadhguru did a "rally for rivers" campaign and connected with Niti ayog. He with the help of others can do a "rally for forests" rally for carbon sequestration etc. This allows such organizations to work a big chunk of international funds.

They need a legacy that lasts beyond their lives and somethnig the world will rally around

One side effect will be curtailing of Maoists, soul harvesting zombies eroding ethnodiversity.

Guys did BJP again give ticket to that harsh vardhan and he has won? Just saw him in NM's speech. That's one guy I wish wasn't given ticket. Can't forget how he was so idiotically enthusiastic about banning diwali crackers.

Has Sushma Swaraj actually "retired" or is this only speculation? If yes, then only Rajnath Singh would remain from the original D4 gang :| .

Regarding NS, I think there was some calculation of gains in TN due to her being RM (and announcements of defence related investment etc) - things didn't pan out very well in, with TN being one of the only places where BJP vote share actually went down (even in KL it went up). Although I do like the idea of NS as Foreign Min (honestly i can't think of better candidate).

I am loving this drama over RG resignation. He resigned, got rejected, he rejected the rejection. From insulting the PM by tearing the ordinance to his position in doubt is a long fall down. But the downfall I am enjoying the most is Sonia Gandhi's. I would love to see her and Robert Vadra in jail more than RG.

And I love how BJP wallas are advising congressis on NDTV on what is wrong with congress and all the left libs can do nothing but nod.

YoYa is calling for death of congress.

Why Indian Prime Minister Modi Won Big
He understands his country better than the experts ever appreciated

By Frank Schell

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has done it again. In the results of the general election announced Thursday, and as he did five years ago, Modi has achieved another absolute majority for his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — winning over 300 seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. The United Progressive Alliance, a coalition dominated by the Indian National Congress, polled only 52 seats in a stunning repudiation of a party that has dominated much of Indian politics since partition and independence in 1947.

Once again, Modi has confounded the pundits, whose established wisdom was that he would struggle to maintain clear leadership and would likely need to form a coalition to govern. They perceived increasing unpopularity due to the Goods and Services tax imposed in July of 2017, which was a burden for small companies and caused much confusion. Further, they cited the demonetization of 86% of the currency in circulation in November of 2016, instituted to address so-called black money, which caused panic and chaos. Depressed farm income and weak job creation in the manufacturing sector were also viewed as negatives for Modi’s reelection prospects. Moreover, among the intelligentsia and media was the widespread view that the secular stature of India, as affirmed in the Preamble of its Constitution adopted in 1949, was being challenged by the BJP — dubbed in the Indian press as the Saffron Party. The color saffron is known to represent renunciation and abstinence in Hinduism, and it symbolically appears in the Indian tricolor. So why did Modi achieve another landslide victory in spite of conventional wisdom?

First, Modi has proven himself to be a master of branding, with much attention to a meticulous, manicured, and well-tailored self-image. Presenting himself as an anti-elitist with humble origins as a chaiwalla or tea seller, Modi has taken on decades of entrenched protocol and bureaucracy. Observers might even say that in terms of optics for some of the general public, Modi is India and India is Modi. Modi has adroitly leveraged the color saffron in public forums. Near the end of the election process, he retreated to Kedarnath in the Himalayas, known for a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva of the Hindu trinity — where he meditatedin a saffron shawl for 17 hours. Symbolically, Modi’s seat is the holy city of Hinduism, Varanasi, known for its Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the banks of the Ganges River also dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Second, much of the electorate seems skeptical of the Nehru Gandhi dynasty, which has ruled India for many years since 1947. Modi’s main challenger Rahul Gandhi, great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister, and grandson of Indira Gandhi, represented values of the Congress Party, likely perceived as legacy. Those values sustained India for many years after independence: democratic socialism, secularism and inclusivity, government control of the economy, social justice, and suspicion of private enterprise. Indeed, it has been said that Nehru was like a huge banyan tree, under which there was shade and protection — but where nothing could grow. Having witnessed the fruits of economic deregulation since the early 1990s, the predominantly Hindu middle class has now affirmed the benefits of free markets: consumerism, capital formation, and competition.

Third, Modi has presented himself as a protector of India against its adversaries. In mid-2017, the Indian Army and Chinese People’s Liberation Army stood face to face high in the Dongkya Range at Doklam, an area disputed by China and Bhutan, an ally of India. Indian troops moved in to block construction of a road by the Chinese in support of Bhutan, in a dramatic standoff. More recently, in February the Indian Air Force retaliated against targets in Pakistan for a terrorist attack in Pulwama, Kashmir. This was in response to suicide bomber that killed about 40 Indian security personnel. Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Sunni radical organization seeking to evict India from Kashmir, announced its responsibility for the attack. In both these incidents, India projected an aggressive military posture to defend its interests.

Successful branding, the sun setting on a political dynasty, and Indian nationalism were decisive forces behind Modi’s victory. Already a strong figure in India, Modi has emerged even stronger with his back-to-back election majorities. In terms of geopolitics, India is pro-American and should continue to be a valued U.S. partner to offset China, counter Islamist extremism, and promote trade and direct investment.

P Chidambaram got teary-eyed as he appealed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, 25 May, not to step down from his post claiming that the party's cadres in the southern states will collapse.
:( :((
However, his sister Priyanka Gandhi thought that no decision should be taken in haste. She also said that if Rahul decides to resign, it would mean that he fell into BJP's trap.

The BJP should have used the services of Herr Tom Vadakkan (ex-Congress spokesperson) to give the right advices to Congress. He was after all the media boy of Congress and a close confidante of the Nehru-Ghandi clan. The left libs can keep on nodding their heads now; they are also retainers in the Congress household.

I am bit surprised why no one has talked about administrative reforms yet. We need to get rid of babucracy which is the long shot solution to majority of problem we face.
1. Have a separate cadre for Central forces.
2. Merge ITBP / SSB into BSF. CISF / RAF / CRPF to be merged together.
3. Separate IPS / IRS from IAS examination.
4. Make allocation of cadres of IAS permanent. No stupid movement of IAS across ministries. You join a cadre once you remain there for rest of service.
5. No IPS deputation to RAW / IB.

You get the right people at right places and i doubt the government will go for any steps in this regards. :(

This is an online ovation to the Election Commission of India and what they achieved.

After the demand from opposition to verify a certain number of VVPATs, it was done by
ECI and all the printed votes were verified correctly. This is definitely an achievement on their part and a statement on the rigor of procedure and process. If there were more than a couple of discrepancies found, the opposition would have gone to town with it, and desi and foreign media would have amplified the messsage to 'a flawed electoral process' under the 'Hindu Nationalist govt' and 'chaotic democracy'.

No one in the opposition party has uttered one word against the process after the poll numbers were released by ECI. They are silent. Their silence on this matter after the count is their loud endorsement of the probity of the election (remember they were shouting about this after the exit polls).

https://www.indiatoday.in/elections/lok ... 5-25
This election, 90 crore Indians voted to elect their next government. It witnessed the Election Commission commissioning 22.3 lakh ballot units, 16.3 lakh control units and 17.3 lakh VVPATs.

Of these 17.3 lakh VVPATs, a physical count of 20,625 VVPAT slips was to be done this election season as compared to the earlier election where 4,125 VVPAT slips were counted. This after the Supreme Court ordered a tally of VVPATs in five polling stations instead of one in every assembly segment.

After the counting was done, it was found that there wasn't a single case of a mismatch between the VVPAT slip and the EVM count, according to Election Commission data.

The report was submitted by Chief Electoral Officers from across states. According to CEOs, there wasn't a single mismatch reported anywhere out of the 20,625 VVPATs that were tallied.
Hope the next set of elections are conducted in a speedier manner. Slower elections give troublemakers more time to cook up their devil's soup. Whatever is the cause of the long process should be looked into and speeded, up by allocation of extra resources. Speed not at the cost of accuracy or equity of the process though. I think it is eminently possible. In 5 years, a lot of things in India will get even better (infrastructure, tele-communication, access, electronic tracking, accountability of govt officials etc) than what they are today. Modi will accelerate the pace of change.

Yashwant Deshmukh Verified account @YRDeshmukh

Ladies and gentlemen, here is the most awaited critical result of #Elections2019 :

EACH and EVERY paper ballot on 20625 VVPAT machines in all 4000 plus assembly segments across all 542 LS seats has been counted, tallied and confirmed.

Not a single mismatch.

While winning battle of Panipat is indeed awesome achievement, let's be cautious and understand that the Congress , inspite of lower vote share, is better off than in 2014.

The control of states like Punjab, MP, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan, coalition in Karnataka, and now news abt TN and Kerela is not to be taken lightly.

Many of these states are cash rich and mineral rich, offering a solid foundation for money making and power grab scheme to rebuild their fortunes.

In fact, they are better off with control of so many good states than BJP was in 2004 and 2009, despite having 100 plus seats in those times.

Only Namo's Gujarat and Shivraj Chauhan's Chattisgarh were the silver lining at that time.

Bottom line? The snake is injured but not yet dead. It can come back again and bite us.

The Left has lost its deposit. It is time for the Right to fight Modi

The Left has lost its deposit. It is time for the Right to fight Modi

To build a Right-wing Ecosystem would be to replicate a Left-wing ecosystem. Nothing could be more tragic. Ecosystems are tribes; sooner or later they demand their pound of flesh.

ANAND RANGANATHAN, MAY 24, 2019.

With great power comes great responsibility; a responsibility not so much of the all-powerful leader but, rather, of his followers.

The Left has lost its deposit. It is time for the Right to fight Modi.

Over these past five years, not a day has gone by when the Left – that holds a monopoly on the media narrative in India – principally through inbreeding and entrenched mediocrity and a collectivised belief in loony tomes – not a day has gone by when the Left hasn’t indulged in wanton propaganda, selectivism, scare-mongering, gangrenous puffery, Hinduphobia, shameless hypocrisy, and the institutionalisation of false-equivalence. From spreading misinformation and fake-news, to pillorying institutions like the Supreme Court and the Armed Forces, nothing was left to chance.

Like the proverbial Proustian cup-cake, these so-called Mothers of History and Fathers of Geography reminisced over past comforts, given them by their favourite dynasty, and how they yearned for it. They remembered the untold rewards through fellowships and committee memberships. They remembered the wah-wahs and the requests for encores at fixed television debates on nationalised television channels. They remembered PMO entourages and business-class trips to places they had never previously seen. They remembered the dinner parties and the book launches and the giggles and the nibbles. They remembered the life they had led, but not the life they had written about. They remembered a cocoon. And slowly, over the years, they remembered wrapping the cocoon with their silky threads over and over and over again till it became tighter and tighter. This they remembered. But life under wraps only stifled the pupa, preventing it from transforming into something that could take wings.

The cocoon got unwrapped in the last five years, leaving only a withered mass of putrefying gunge; hanging from a branch; dripping slime; about to detach. But still, they hoped for wings to sprout.

It only got worse in the last few months. These masked and bibbed writers jabbed and parried, jabbed and parried, rattling their sabres in a vigorous bout of eleventh-hour fencing. It was almost as though these Achtung Journalists and fly-by-night intellectuals took it upon themselves to save the Idea of India from the talons of Fascism and Totalitarianism. They dreamt of swastikas and toothbrush moustaches, they heard the approaching rumble of goose steps, they watched their beloved India turn into a Pakistan, but they refused to wake up to reality. They were the new Buffalo Soldiers – stolen from Communism, brought to Secularism; Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.

In response, the Right wrote thousands of rebuttals, filled with logical counter-points and rationale, at times rife with anger, even retribution. But as the Navajo saying goes, you can’t wake a person pretending to be asleep. These rebuttals helped little. That is until one single, solitary rebuttal brought the rotten, decaying cocoon crashing down. It was a rebuttal that could not be read, only heard; could not be watched, only felt. It arrived yesterday. Modi wrote it.

No other rebuttal is now necessary. The Right has no enemy left. Fools are those who do not get weary from battling an idiotic adversary. Ignore and withdraw. Your battles now lie elsewhere.

Modi 2.0 heralds a new beginning for India and her people. It must not be allowed to cultivate the habits of Modi 1.0. It must not be allowed to rest its head on the cushion of nepotism and fawning and servitude and social Darwinism. It must be taken to task when it fails on its promises. The criticism by the Left cannot be trusted or believed in. Who else but the Right to help the government keep to the straight and narrow?

Doubtless, this would be difficult. The Right has not criticised Modi except on rare occasions, and worse, it has charged on galloping horses and spears drawn at those who are neither Left nor Right (call them non-Left) when they have criticised Modi. To be sure, it is the Left and not the Right that cannot take criticism from among its own. The Right works on Darwinian principles and fighting for supremacy of ideas come naturally – a fundamental and glorious reason why there can never be a Right-wing ecosystem.

To build a Right-wing Ecosystem would be to replicate a Left-wing ecosystem. Nothing could be more tragic. Ecosystems are tribes; sooner or later they demand their pound of flesh. Slowly, they sow ideas of brotherhood and dependence in an intellectual who has just joined them and then begins the slide. If India is to encourage the growth of intellectualism, it must understand that ecosystems, as we know them, are to be discouraged. It must understand the role of a patron. You can support a musician by organising a concert for him, but you can’t ask him to perform your mediocre creation. And this is what all ecosystems do. They turn into herds, and their members into little lambs, afraid to speak their minds, fearful of the consequences, scared that the flow of cash or kind might ebb. Ecosystems ensconce and guard mediocrity, then promote and help it prosper. Instead, the Right must now cultivate nonconformists and dissenters among its own fold.

There is a reason why this author is writing these words for Opindia. No one but no one has worked more to demolish the perfidy of the Left in recent past, than Opindia and its motley gang of the founder, editor, and gifted writers – all of whom are true Liberals. It was vital if not a crucial task and one that has been accomplished satisfactorily. It must now walk away from the scarred battlefield and reinvent itself. There is a need for Opindia 2.0. For every article that lauds the actions of Modi 2.0, let there be one written by someone from the Right that is critical of that same action. The space that was erstwhile occupied in rebutting the dissenting Left and its perfidious ideas must now be handed over to the dissenting Right.

So, warriors of the Right: arise, drop your swords and pick up your pens and celebrate true dissent as much as you celebrate true democracy. There is a job to do, and you are needed like never before. Withdraw the middle- and lift the forefinger. And point it at Modi when needed.

***

Author’s note: Few lines on the machinations of the Left Ecosystem have been taken from the author’s essays published earlier.

Tehseen poonawala said something interesting.
He said its not RG that has to go (which is expected), but office of RG. And he names Kumar Ketkar, Sudhindra Kulkarni and Arun Shourie and calls them a bunch of jokers. They either are really behind RG's crazy behavior or they are being made the fall guys. Considering how close TP is to RG, it is probably the later. The family is desperate to save him. This is probably extended drama to show there is no alternative.

Tehseen p0rn0w@lla is family (by marriage and a minority fanatic who portrays himself as an "atheist" to spew venom on the Hindus, Modi and the RSS) and must have eagerly been anticipating his political debut in some lucrative position in the family run firm of the congi enterprises pvt ltd.

kumar ketkar and sudhindra kulkarni are quite notorious and well known poisonous snakes.

With such a LARGE contingent of Muslim MPs (0/303), I’m sure you’d know that making minority scholarships demand driven is urgently required

Also don’t use the ‘M word’ too much, your core supporter may get confused
Meanwhile bif are working on what really matters.

Wow
this is a translation of a bangla saying, 'j goruta dudh dey tar lathita sojyo korte hoy'. the cow that gives milk has to be tolerated even if she kicks.

basically means she is tolerating their kicks because they are voting for her. this is a very rude and dare I say indept thing to say.
points to a very transactional relationship and I dont think bengal's muslims wouid take kindly to this. if I was in bjp I would exploit this to the hilt and try to wean away muslims from TMC and if absorption is not possible, push them towards the left.
MB as in general been a very astute politician but I am getting the feeling she is cracking under the pressure and making mistakes.
