3 Silvers 1 Bronze in Greco Roman is very surprising. We are typically never even in contention, in an event usually monopolized by Iran, South Korea and Japan.

What is up with Baharain getting so many golds in the ASIAN Games? Not China not Japan. Just today there was a ruckus about an Italian organizer banning African runners in a half a marathon race to highlight trading in African athletes. The organizer decision was called racist and was forced to back down.

Saurabh Chaudhry wins 10m air pistol gold once again at the 3rd leg of the World Cup in Munich, with another world record of 246.2. Apurvi Chandela won gold in women's 10m air rifle and Rahi Sarnobat won gold in 25m air pistol.

India continues to top the 2019 World Cup series tally with 9 golds, 1 silver and 0 bronze, China 2nd with 5 golds, 10 silvers and bronzes.

India swept both the mixed team events at the Munich shooting World Cup . Saurabh Chaudhry and Manu Bhaker won the pistol mixed team gold by a mile. The Anjun Moudgil/Divyansh Singh Panwar team ( India A) won gold in the rifle event beating India B (Apurvi and Deepak Kumar) to silver .

5 golds 1 silver in this leg and 11 golds 2 silvers overall in 2019 after 3 world cup legs - by a long distance the most dominant country this year . China in 2nd place with 5 golds.

2019 ISSF World Cup

The mixed team events are strong medal opportunities at Tokyo 2020, in addition to Saurabh and others in individual events. Best case is ~3 shooting golds at the Olympics.

India's performance on the shooting world cup circuit has been an upswing since 2016:
2016: 1G 4S 0B , 17th position
2017: 3G 3S 3B , 6th position
2018: 4G 2S 4B , 3rd position
In 2019, after just 3 of four World Cups, we are in #1 position with 11G 2S 0B . In all the previous three years, China finished #1 with between 13-16 golds. This year, we will finish #1, probably with around 14 golds after the 4th World Cup at Rio.

^^ Just hope they keep the tempo up in the Olympics since our shooters also seem to be winning only golds right upto the event and then suddenly wither away in the actual event

I don't think that's a fair characterization. It is true that we won a lot of medals before prior OGs, but largely at a much lower performance standard - mainly Commonwealth Games. We have no history of domination in the World Cup circuit - something we have built momentum in since 2016 as the data above shows. The World Cup circuit is where the world's best operate and win OG quotas.

Gagan Narang has 3 World Cup golds, spread across 3 years. Anjali Bhagwat has 1. Abhinav Bindra none at all that I could find, but one world championship final win. That used to be how we did - a flash in the pan here and there, despite the fact that there are 3-4 World Cups each year.

Compare to that, number of world cup golds:
Saurabh Chaudhary: 5 in 2019 (2 individual, 3 mixed team, 2 world records)
Manu Bhaker: 3 in 2019, 2 in 2018 (1 individual, 4 mixed team)
Divyansh Singh Panwar: 3 in 2019 (1 individual, 2 mixed team)
Apurvi Chandela: 2 in 2019 (2 individual, 1 world record)

Saurabh and Manu just turned 17 a few months ago - they already have more golds in one year than our best shooters of the past did over their whole careers, combined. Divyansh is 16. Apurvi is relatively ancient at 26. But shooters have careers that run into the late 30s.

In summary, we have a crop of world standard shooters with 4-5 Olympic Games worth of potential in them. This makes for a great, never before picture, considering in shooting any country can only field 2 teams:

India wins all of their matches for the pre-qualifier of Olympics.

https://www.rediff.com/sports/report/fi ... 190610.htm

Akashdeep Singh slammed a hat-trick as favourites India scored goals at will to thrash Uzbekistan 10-0 and storm into the semifinals of the FIH Series Finals hockey tournament, in Bhubaneswar, on Monday.
Akashdeep's goals came in the 11th, 26th and 53rd minutes, while Varun Kumar (4th, 22nd) and Mandeep Singh (30th, 60th) scored a brace each for India.

Amit Rohidas (15th), Nilkanta Sharma (27th) and Gursahibjit Singh (45th) were the other goal getters for the winners.
More from around the web

India finished atop Pool A with an all-win record and will play the winner of the cross-over match between Japan and Poland in the semifinals on Friday, while USA, who topped Pool B, will take on the winners of the other cross-over game between Russia and South Africa.

The last Pool A match turned out to be a mismatch as the Indians controlled the proceedings from start to finish.

The action was all in the Uzbekistan half as India attacked in numbers from the word go and secured as many as five penalty corners in the first four minutes, the last of which was converted by Varun to hand lead to the home team.

Next was Akashdeep's turn to register his name in the scoresheet as he scored from a rebound from another short corner in the 11th minute.

Four minutes later, Rohidas converted a penalty corner to make the scoreline 3-0 in India's favour.

It continued to rain goals in the second quarter as India scored four more to go into the breather with a handsome 7-0 lead.

Varun scored his second in the 22nd minute from a field effort before Akashdeep found the Uzbek net with a reverse hit two minutes later.

Young Nilkanta was not to be left behind as he scored from a rebound in the next minute from India's next short corner.

Mandeep completed the first half rout, pushing in from close range after being fed by Ramandeep Singh.

India dominated after the change of ends but could score just once in the third quarter when Gursahibjit guided the ball into the net in the 45th minute after receiving a through pass from Sumit.

Thereafter, Aksshdeep completed his hat-trick before Mandeep scored another at the stroke of the final hooter to round off the drubbing.

It was a no contest at all as Uzbekistan failed to threaten India's goal even once in the entire 60 minutes.

India's domination can be gauged from the fact that they earned as many as 12 penalty corners as against the rivals' none.

The Indians had 23 shots on goal while the Uzbeks had none.

The archery team is doing well at the world championship, except for the men's compound team who bowed out early.

Women's Compound Individual: Jyothi Surekha Vennam wins bronze, beating the Danish world #1 in tiebreak on the way.
Women's Compound Team: India wins bronze

Men's recurve team is in the final for the first time in 15 years, and will take on PR China on Sunday.

With three medals, this is by a long distance the most the archery team has ever won at a World Championship - the previous highest was a single medal each in 2005, 2009 and 2013.

Not having a good feeling about today's match against the pukes. We are batting first and its over cast. Hope the ball doesn't swing much. Hope it rains after our innings and stays overcast through out their innings.
Added Later: Ok not rain. wet ball easy to hit. not easy to grip for spinners. Just overcast maybe.
If India wins this match, pakis are unlikely to make it to the semis.

Ump did not signal out, only pakis appealed and the snick-meter showed no contact either. What a duffer.

Vijay Shankar should learn to bowl at 135+ kmph. He is tall and strong enough to do it. He will be a shoo in for the test all rounder position and probably for one days too. He is a great batsman to have at number 4 in one days.

Damad is out first ball duck. He should come to sasural or he may lynched in his country. But considering the number of pakis in India now, he may not be safe in India either.

I think Kohli walked because (a) there wasn't enough time for a century (b) it was terribly hard to score runs off Amir, whose death bowling is super. (c) wanted to put the monkey on Vijay Shankar's back because the guy has a record of not responding well to pressure. Instead of just "retiring" which would have been panned as cowardice against the super-herrow Amir, he now looks like a heroic Harischandra. Probably had it planned long since. Under the circumstances I think VS did better than the Australians (or was it the Britpakis) did against Amir. See how Kohli reacted when Vijay Shankar got a wicket first ball (again that was a high-pressure moment, with the star swing bowler out so early): "bent over and laughed his guts out". Kohli is putting the youngster into the fire to toughen him. He got another wicket and took a catch as well, so he should sleep well tonight.

Malik has a lifetime to spend in H'bad now making little Pakis: he must be retired.

A KRIKIT dhaga on PeeAref!!!!! And I missed it. Will remember with the One and Only GUESS Predictor-Corrector System for the next match. Its just the rain that we can't deal with. Notice how it never rains when England is about to bat - and the rain ends or it is heavily overcast just b4 they bowl? FIXED!!! SL has good grounds to complain.

How much money does a participating countries like pukestan make just for showing up to a world cup? I'm wondering if it's really a loss for them or if they still take home more than they spent.

https://rightlog.in/2019/02/bcci-pakist ... ld-cup-01/
ICC generates money from tournaments like Cricket World Cup, Champions Trophy etc. The majority (more than 80 percent) of the income of these tournaments comes from India. But the country gets very little (around 20 percent) in return when the organization distributes income to its members. As per the revenue sharing agreement of ICC for 2015-23, India will get only 22.8 percent (405 million dollars) in return despite the fact that it is expected to contribute almost 80 percent. “They (India) are contributing towards 80 per cent of the money and they’re taking about 20 per cent for hiring their team for the ICC.” said Cricket Australia Chairman Wally Edwards.

Therefore, the revenue generated from India not only bankrolls ICC but also goes to other 106 members of the organization including Pakistan. As per the analysis of ICC’s revenue, all other full time members except India contribute 0.1 percent to 5 percent in the total earnings of the organization. The next two big contributors after India are England and Australia. The contribution of Pakistan to the total revenues of the organization could be somewhere between 1-3 percent. However, the cricket board of the terrorist nation will get 128 million dollars out of the 1,536 million dollars ICC will distribute to all cricket playing nations from 2015 to 2013[2023]. This amounts to more than 8% of the total revenue sharing, substantially higher than what Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contributing.

But cricketing nations get much more money from bilateral home series against India, probably 4 to 5 times more. Now the pukes are not getting it, that is why the begging for resuming 'bilateral' series with them.

Kjo...there was a noise from the creaking handle of his bat, which Kohli mistook as an edge and so walked away... the umpire also heard the same sound and nodded in agreement of it being a snick... Snickometer is only an afterthought....

hate to point this out, but the 89-run jhapad was pretty cruel from Duck-worth Lewis, hain? Hardly reduced the target by 30 runs, but slashed 10 of the 15 overs remaining. 10 overs was at least 60, probably 80 runs, with the 4 wickets that they had left. When play resumed, the RRR was 32.7 per over already and in a couple of balls it was over 36!!!! I am not sure exactly where this was infair, but I am sure the ICC conspired with the evil yindoos to do this to boor bakistan. :((

Kohli is not a child to mistake a bat click for a snick, hain? He walked because of the evil calculation above: He was TERRIFIED of Amir and needed to change his undies. Like I said, he wanted to put Vijay Shankar under the last-overs gun.

The umpire didn't actually give an out, so there was no reason for Kohli to walk. He could have waited for the umpire's decision at least.

Going overboard with notions of fair play?

bhogle made a good point. if there was a noise, any noise, snicko should have caught it. so what happened ?

D-L assigns weights to two resources in order to calculate modified target, overs left & wkts in hand. target will become more difficult with lower values for either factor. pakis had lost 6 wkts which meant they had lost their top order thus the target was anyway quite difficult even in full overs. given the people who were batting, pakis would probably have been 200 allout in 45 overs if normal play continued.
DLS is a very effective & fair system. have a look, you might find it interesting.

I think VK walked and only then the umpire nodded. But why will a batsmen go by the sound, when the feel of ball hitting the bat is much more reliable. I have seen seen batsmen not feel a faint nick while snickometer or hotspot indicated one but never saw the other way - a batsman 'feeling' the edge when there is none.

I don't blame him for walking if he thought there was a nick, but its a mystery to me why he thought there was a nick. I guess some times your body and mind plays tricks on you.

Aiyyooo! MouthOffrikans choked again. Can u believe it? NZ had an average of around 5 per over. They were 5 gone for 139 and seemed finished, RRR above 6.3 and them at 4.5. SA had ONE bowler who was having an off day: 8-0-62-0. So! They gave the ball to him for the last over with 12 needed, and he obligingly gave a nice slow long hop to someone batting on 96 to clobber for a 6, and followed it with a 2 and another long hop to clobber for 4. Finis.

There but for the Grace of ATM goes desh: PCB to conduct "robust review" of team and support personnel with help from Truth and Blasphemy Court
The review will cover the past three years, from the time the team management began its task.
.. abysmal run in the tournament which has seen them losing three out of five matches, while one, against Sri Lanka, was washed out. ..longest losing streak stretching across 11 matches in ODIs this year and lose their first-ever Test series in the UAE since they adopted it as 'home venue' - but the calls for reforms, both in the domestic structure and in the national team, intensified after an 89-run defeat (DLS) against India in Manchester on Sunday which now see Pakistan languishing at number nine on the points table.
:((
And following that (no sense in wasting another post on this..
Less than a year after becoming the head of the cricket committee, Mohsin Hasan Khan has asked Ehsan Mani, the PCB chairman, to be released from his role which the latter accepted. Mani had announced the formation of this committee, which includes Wasim Akram, Misbah ul Haq, and Urooj Mumtaz :?: , in October last year to 'assist and advice' him on the country's crook-beting matters. The committee will now be headed by PCB MisManaging Director, Wasim Khan. Since Pakistan's stellar showing in the ongoing World Cup (but LOSING TO INDIA!!), the committee, along with The Bored, has come under intense criticism to which the committee members have lamented that the board hasn't called on them for the past four months.
