Young! Gets blood rush! For me, he has been impressive, but suddenly selects a poor shot to play. So, with right coaching, he can be groomed for the future.

At least dhoni will retire now. Can't help other batsmen to keep up with run rate, and in the end can't do it alone too when others have fallen compensating for his caution

4 years ago, Dhoni would have made those 2 inches of ground easily!

We deserve to lose. The entire middle was screwed up in trying to accommodate one man who is barely fit. Our middle order should have been finalised two years ago, but we were still undecided till our last match. Good riddance.

Cmon let’s get the emotional ‘deserve to lose’ arguments out of the way . The team that plays better or lucks out better that day wins .

Old Trafford has not had a single win from chasing in 6 matches this WC . The game was over at the toss - the first team had the best batting pitch to play on . It’s probably going to be the same story tomorrow in the other semifinal , and final - win toss means win game .

Cmon....I thought the team really played well after losing 4 wickets for 24 runs eating away 10 overs. Hard luck though. Well, the overlord just doesnt look after India alone, he sometimes has to look after his other creations as well :-)
I do understand that we do not like to lose at this stage....even then....

England is the worst host of the world cup. ICC should barred them from hosting world cup for next 25 years!

240 should be chased what ever the wicket. I am surprised Pant and Pandya played so slow. Didn't watch the game but the strike rate is abysmally low.
Yes, poor pitch preparation. The pitches did not have the consistency of 2015.

The 'deserve to lose' is not because we played badly on the day, but for not firming up the middle order 2 years ago or at least one year ago. At most one position should have been up for grabs leading up to the world cup. Too much experimentation and chipping and chopping up to the very last.

Ever since Yuvraj, Kaif and old Dhoni retired our middle order is in shambles. Kartik and Jadhav are done along with Dhoni. KL Rahul maybe couple more chances in middle order. We missed Shikhar Dhawan.

NZ was so lucky all through. Among the average to below average teams, their wins were against the bad teams, and got rained out against India and squeaked in because India lost (on purpose?). Now they actually beat India in a SF match though I think the result would be different if it wasn't rained out yesterday. Now they may just go on to win the Cup.

We had many bakwaas players like Jadhav in the team, why wasn't Jadeja in the team from the start? Dhoni did his best today but it is time to go. Hardik Pandya seems to be going the Vinod Kambli way. Have initial success, think you are all that and turn into a party boy. A few failures and he will be packed off as India doesn't like such types.

this is a selection failure, plain and simple.

rishabh pant (ODI avg 26, only 4 more than bhuvaneshwar kumar) and dinesh karthik (ODI avg 30) are India's 4 and 5 ???

karthik averages 30 15 years after his ODI debut. same as jadeja. would we play jadeja as a batsman alone ? DK is a proven failure. we deliberately underplayed jadhav (ODI avg 43) with only one failure in this WC to play this useless batsman. we deserve this failure.

the guy averages a very respectable 40 this WC. everybody's blue eyed boy pant averages 29. but just because jhadav is not flashy he should be axed. pant gets a free pass. this is PRECISELY the problem with Indian team selection. pant for all his so called talent is a coss batted hack, unlike even pandya, who has his basics well in place.

If there's a selection failure, what counts as a selection success ? One match in very difficult playing conditions was lost. Several others were won, and every team has had its share of injuries, selection and form issues. Yes it's time to look forward, but there's no need for pitchforks pointed at half the team .

the problem in 50 over matches is that the top 3 (and 4) get enough time to settle down and then score runs. Players who come after top 3/4 do not have such a luxury as they have to take risks to score runs fast. So will be difficult to find a perfect middle order batsman with a top order heavy team.

pitchforks need to be pointed for the repeated selection failures. there was similar issue during the england tour when we lost tests just because of poor seletion.

we have a superlative top order which fires more often than not. that hides these failures but it was glaring enough that everyone was talking about it for last two years.

@RajeevK, Gill and Shaw are the future. Jhadav can be the transition.

Even Shaw is an opening batsman. But yes, he is good.
The problem with taking him as a middle order batsman is that as soon as an opener starts failing, there will be constant refrain for him to made an opener. And then the middle order will back to being brittle.
But yes not including Kedar Jadhav was a mistake.

tough swinging cold conditions (eng, nz) need batsmen like pujara , rahane, laxman and dravid to survive and score runs. time and again SRT and Dravid would go out and blunt the fresh attack, wear the ball and pitch out a bit before yuvraj, raina and dhoni would finish the chase.

but our ODI selection is riddled with IPL style heroes....imo its better a test batsman make the transition to ODI, than expect IPL bullies to mature into 50 overs in difficult matches.

Hmm you are right about Jadhav, I hadn't realized that his ODI average is pretty good.

Pant gets a pass for now because he is just 20 and is playing his first few matches. If he is bad then he will be exposed in due course of time. Pant and Pandya did well to stabilize the innings today but they were a tad too slow and should have taken some more risks when we had lots of overs and enough batting to come.

Saar, This is not even morning to noon. Only Dhoni is going away hopefully. Everyone else can practically be playing in 2023.
This is a very young team.

I think it will be NZ taking the cup home.

Aussie done and dusted. Kiwi play consecutive finals.
England playing final after 1992 when some of the BRF readers were not even born.
Going by current form, England should win the WC easily.

In a dramatic match England were given WC after final against NZ ran into super over , 50 over match was a tie . After both sides scored 15 runs in a over , England was gifted trophy cos they hit more boundaries in 50 overs . Most of these bizarre rules are unknown to players as well who tweeted in support of shared cup . England’s captain thanked Allah on his side along w prayers for the match

So they could have given to the team that made the runs for the least wickets, hain? WHY "most boundaries" inside same # of runs in same # of overs? Steggles at work again.

Thank god the stupid world cup is over. Probably going to compete with WC2007 as the worst organized World Cup ever, finally concluding with a travesty of neither team knowing about the Super Over, or who won the super over, without digging deep into the rule book. Too bad the tiebreaker wasn't which captain was hairier. KW would have won that one.

What I liked was that each team played all other teams. No pools like A, B, C which injects bias into which team gets put against which other team. Everyone has an equal shot at getting to the semis. That said, there should have been more provision for rained out matches like 2-3 days set at the end of the schedule to set up one. IND-NZ getting rained out may have allowed NZ to get into the semis when they may have lost.

The Final should have been decided by unlimited super overs. Ending it with boundary count was ridiculous. It should be up on the scoreboard, not in a stat book.

WC 2007 was terrible, I think other than the rain factor this was much better. In 2007 India was pushed out and Ireland went to the Super 8 round.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga continues to be India's best long term bet in weightlifting. Still only 16, he's repeatedly smashed the junior world record in the last 2 years, even after moving up from 62kg to 67kg (the 62kg category was changed to 61kg, so he moved up instead of down). He lifted 136kg in snatch at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships - enough to win gold and set the national/commonwealth/world junior records. He also held the previous record of 134kg. He lifted 124kg snatch (274kg total) to win the junior Olympics gold in 2018 . He won silver in the world youth championship in 2017 lifting 110kg.

He's already at the lower end of Asian Games 69kg performance standard. Mid-upper 140kg snatch is AG medal territory. The WR (potentially doped Chinese) is 155kg in snatch. Total AG/WC/OC medal winning performance in his weight range is ~330kg, and he's already approaching 300-310kg.

There's a definite uptick in shooting performance level this year, much higher than in the past. While we've dominated at Commonwealth Games level, and even done decently at AG level, the World Cup circuit - where all the world's best compete 4x a year - has never been our strong suit. The best performance over the annual circuit was 3rd place in 2018, and 6th place the year before that, as described here. This year, we've dramatically improved our performances in both senior and junior WC circuits, performing like the Chinese usually do. 16 year olds like Saurabh Chaudhry already have more WC golds than Gagan Narang and Abhinav Bindra combined, through their entire careers. I hope it leads to strong performances at Tokyo 2020 .

Finished the world cup with junior 10 golds, #1 position ahead of China's 8 golds.

India currently leads the 2019 ISSF World Cup as well as the just concluded junior world cup, and also topped the 2018 junior world cup

All these are first-ever performances for India, so it's not like India always does this and fails at OG.

India swept the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships held in Australia, winning gold in every category (men's and women's team and singles, all three doubles), with multiple finals being all-Indian affairs.

This is the first time one country swept all events since 1983 when Hong Kong did so with Chinese emigre players. Singapore has also come close to doing so with Chinese national team emigres.

CTTC Winners

Elsewhere, C Bhavani Devi became the first Indian to make the last 16 of the World Fencing Championship, in women's individual sabre. The reigning Commonwealth champion lost by one point (14-15) to the Romanian who later lost in the semifinal to the eventual world champion.
