Small Arms Thread
Re: Small Arms Thread
OFB already manufacters 7.62*51 and 7.62*63 bolt action rifles. Deploying this skill set for 0.338 rifle is a one month job. But import .....

army to modify AK-47 to counter new terror tactic
excerpted from aboveA process has been initiated for acquiring ‘weapon speciality kits’ that includes items like tactical flashlight, fiber reinforced pistol grip, swing swivel attachment, polymer rails, rubberised pistol fore front grip, cheek rest, pointing grip, extendable butt stock and side mount that can be attached to the rifle in the field as and when required
They want to burden the soldier with this extra filed modification kit while they do cordon and search operations? Did these folks see real combat in life or just sit in Delhi and order kits?
Basically convert a field rifle into a sniper rifle in the field.
Something is wrong!
The British bug is still infesting the Army.

These are kits for CQB - Close Quarter Battle. Mean the IA thinks urban combat etc is more and more possible. These will be helpful. I'd state for once the IA is ordering direct and useful kit for the soldier on a standardized basis. Otherwise plethora of kits, field mods in service with RR and Army formations.

Re: Small Arms Thread
The FAB Industries Mod Kit + Holographic sites and other accessories have been a huge boon to RR and other COIN troops in theater. Heard alot off positive feedback from soldiers on the ground.ramana wrote:wig wrote:https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/natio ... 95178.html

Pictures of some modded AKs - Look at last few posts in the below thread page

Re: Small Arms Thread
When i first read the post i wondered how clamping add-on accessories equates to modifying (a term more used to mean deeper changes - changing the calibre, barrel length etc) would be a reflection of change in tactics.
The post from Karan M makes it slightly more clearer.. and at the same time a bit more ominous. Is the fear now that the terror will spill into the more urbanised Jammu district

Re: Small Arms Thread
As per INDRA twitter handle guy from OFB sources, the JVPC is out of contention for Army. The Mk-1c or some other INSAS variant is being given a consideration (don't get your hopes up).
Also, the massive muzzle brake / flash hider / compensator on R-2.
Some units of R-2 have been sent to MHOW for testing (no further updates).

Re: Small Arms Thread
From tenders it seems ARDE is working on a New 5.56X45 Carbine and a 7.62X51 LMG

I beg to differ. These kits are essential for fitting optics, hand grips etc. on existing rifles. An average rifle with optics and accessories is much more effective than a good rifle without. We faced similar issues as NATO forces in COIN related to small arms. Difference is NATO strategy was to get more hits on critical areas (head / torso) using optics.
Re: Small Arms Thread
Same old ones which were reported a while back.Kakarat wrote:From tenders it seems ARDE is working on a New 5.56X45 Carbine and a 7.62X51 LMG
INSAS derivative in Sig-550 type layout
Fn-MAG derivative
Zero hopes of induction IMO given the recent history.
Re: Small Arms Thread
This should've been the design of INSAS-1C with 14" barrel. This is a simple design with ways to make simpler.Thakur_B wrote:

1. Single piece milled upper with the handguard.
2. The barrel and gas tube can float.
3. Handguard could be extended.
4. Gas port can move outward more to collect more gas. overgassing is not always a bad thing.
5. Reciprocating handel.
6. Maybe an imported flash hider/muzzle break.
Re: Small Arms Thread
Sourav ji, overgassing is good for keeping the rifle simple and reliable, but it increases the recoil impulse. A gas regulator should have been considered. Also, reciprocating handles lead to nasty bites and interfere with optics mounts. From the earlier image released by sandeep unnithan, the charging handle is Amogh style. Also, the flash hider looks anaemic, given IA's earlier complaints about excessive flash on failed INSAS carbine. It needs a beefier flash hider / muzzle brake like one considered on R-2.souravB wrote:This should've been the design of INSAS-1C with 14" barrel. Btw the MOA considered for the carbine is around 4.25 which isn't exemplary. This is a basic development program to ield a basic product.
Edit: The flash hider seems similar to one on JVPC, which was meant to house a suppressor.
